Great military General for the Confederates. Stonewall Jackson. Sadly he is mainly mocked in history classes today and is only known for accidentally being shot by his troops... He was probably one of the best generals the South had.
He was not without his eccentricities... he would not eat pepper because he believed it caused pain and weakness in his left leg, for example. He was very fond of lemons, the story goes, often eating them whole to ease painful dyspepsia. Another one of his odd habits, wrapping himself in moist towels at night to help him sleep, may have actually been the death of him. After he was wounded in battle, the general demanded to be swaddled in cold compresses. The damp cloth and chill night air either caused or aggravated pneumonia in Jackson's lungs.
