Looking at these list of games, it's pretty easy to see which years were weaker than others for candidates and also which years had a ton of top games.  It will be tough to narrow this down!  Should be a lot of fun.

Should we go about this by maybe starting with the first few years?  Maybe 2000 to 2003 and we each give our reasons until we narrow it down?  That will leave us for sure to let 2018 finish and us to finish all the games we want to play for 2018 or newer games that came out anytime in the years listed above.

Since I know you play Nintendo games, is this pretty accurate? Any additions in your mind? @Blurr001 and @Binkyt11
I'd say it's pretty good! In terms of Nintendo games, I did finally try some out with a cousin the other day. One I would say is a great game this year for Nintendo was Kirby: Star Allies. It was fun to play with friends or solo. It was easy enough where anyone can get into it, but has enough challenge to keep you invested. And Nintendo has been doing wonderful with the DLC updates to it as well.

Oh my god, it looks like it's gonna be good. In less of a year, this game has been an emotional rollercoaster of hype.

The amount of discussion is going to be intense. ;D  I think we should do a YEAR at a time.  So lets start with 2000 when we feel we have our list complete for that year.

I think we should do a YEAR at a time.  So lets start with 2000 when we feel we have our list complete for that year.

2000

The Sims
Deus Ex
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2
Spyro: Year of the Dragon
The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask
Counterstrike
Driver 2
Paper Mario
Final Fantasy IX

So of all those games for the year of 2000, I would have to narrow it down to The Sims and Driver 2 for being revolutionary.  Let me explain.  The Sims was a game that changed the world of gaming as well know it, and lesser known to people, so did the Driver series.  Driver 2 wasn't as good as Driver 1, but it was an open world that allowed players to get out of a car and explore real world cities in 3D.  Problem for Driver 2 was that a year later, Rockstar would destroy it in everyday with GTA III.  But in 2000, it was completely new.  As for the Sims, it allowed us a freedom and intimacy with a character that up to that point we'd never seen before.  Quite frankly both were revolutionary.

The other games, while good and fun, didn't do anything to revolutionize the market at the time.

Tally my votes for either The Sims or Driver 2.  If I had to choose a third it would be Counterstrike for the gameplay.

2000  - Official Nominations

The Sims - 2
Deus Ex
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 - 1
Spyro: Year of the Dragon
The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask
Counterstrike  - 2
Baldur's Gate II - 1
Driver 2 - 1
Paper Mario
Final Fantasy IX

2000 was a different era.  It was closer to the 90s than the 2000s... if that makes sense.  And back then all the rage was extreme sports.  That's the time when we got snowboarding, sky diving, and skateboarding... which leads me to nominate Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2.  Possibly the most FUN game of 2000.  It let you ride with the very best in a open world levels with a polish and brash sense of humor unseen at the time.  This game had a kick-can soundtrack too making your inner 90s punk want to scream and your conservative parents to freak out.

Then we have The Sims.  A game that opened up a new era of controller based games and freedom.  Not only did it spawn a franchise, but it spawned a whole new era of games.  The Sims may be looked back upon as one of the more iconic games in terms of history.  But with all that, it was also a fun game allowing the player to control their dream life.  Now playing it it seems pretty bare bones to what we can do in Sims games today, but there is a simplicity and familiarity to it that cannot be matched.  I nominate The Sims as a best of 2000 game.  The music of this game is iconic and anyone, even people who didn't play the game (who hasn't played the Sims?) would know this game's music.  It was strange almost classic 50's Americana or elevator tunes that led to many reattempts at this original games charm in future renditions.

Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn is a role playing game in a class of its own.  Nothing even came close to a RPG compared to this very long, but well written game.  In 2000, you were physically thrown into this believable world and got to play how you wanted to play it.  It was a real chance at freedom and a sense of being there that really hadn't been captured yet.  This game also had so much content and things to do.  Even to this day, this game is massive and completely relevant.  There was so much lore and depth to the game world, and a sense of polish and care put into it, that by far, this is one of the best RPG games ever made.  Don't even get me started on the stellar soundtrack.

This is fun! I'm enjoying it.  It's going to keep getting harder and harder too. Especially as we get close to games we more easily remember.

2000

The Sims
Deus Ex
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2
Spyro: Year of the Dragon
The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask
Counterstrike
Driver 2
Paper Mario
Final Fantasy IX

Final Fantasy IV pushed the PS One to it's limits in a truly stunning and beautiful game for the time.  It was extremely deep with a weaving story that was well worth the play.  Very story driven to make this arguably the best Final Fantasy game of all time and one of the best JRPG games out there. The craftsmanship by the creators in even just creating menus was superb.

Spyro: Year of the Dragon was an extremely fun game that had so many elements to it, that some might think it's too varied.  But at the time it was so much fun as a platformer.  It had many different characters and challenges you could play with more worlds than ever in a Spyro game.  It's a game you pick up and just can't let go and perfectly rounded out the first Spyro trilogy series. This game was lovingly crafted and has some great music by Stewart Copeland!

The Sims is very unique and a first of its kind.  To not have this game be a game changer means you don't know gaming. ;)  Seriously.  Even if you don't like the freedom and true control you have with this game, you can't deny how revolutionary this was.  It is an addictive game that can easily burn through the hours.  You got to very basically create your own character but you also got to create the game world you play in!  Yes, you got to build your own home and purchase goods and truly live your own life.  Nothing up till this point could ever match this game.

Spyro: Year of the Dragon
The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask

My three picks are above.  I am another who is going to have to include the Sims.  It was such a game changing game (lol) and it transformed the gaming industry on what players could do with a character in terms of control and individuality.

Tony Hawk PS 2 was an amazingly addicting game that I spent way too much time playing.  It was probably the best "Pro Skater" series there was and with the inclusion of level making make it even better.

Spyro Year of the Dragon was such a perfect end to a great game series. It had so much variety and things to do and it was the best platformer of the year.
