So, that new Ghostbusters movie trailer is out...!
http://io9.gizmodo.com/this-fan-edited-ghostbusters-trailer-fixes-several-prob-1762935173
I link this article in particular a lot of the time because it shows both the original, and a fan-cut which is making waves. What's your take on the Ghostbusters reboot?

-
I'm not excited for the new movie.
-
I thought the effects were pretty good....
My friends reaction though "cringe, cringe, cringe" it was really notable as he's a very calm passive guy. Nothing ever annoys him. That's like the first time I've seen him show displeasure at something haha.
-
I saw the trailer and cringed throughout. It looked really bad, like those Scooby Doo movies from the early 2000s. I will not go see this.
Not sure if I can get behind the new characters either.
-
Not interested in the slightest. Too many remakes.
-
The cast has 0 chemistry. All their interactions feel forced. Compared to the original where the three main characters (Harold Ramis, Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray) had been working together for a good decade and adlibbed most of the dialog. it doesn't hold a candle IMO.
-

I second this all the way. XD
-
Well even if its good or bad, I'm still gonna watch it.
-
I am going to have to agree, this cast seems too far fetched. The other guys just were so perfect. I don't even know if they followed their own scripts!
This new one looks too scripted and forced. Just trying to take money from people with nostalgia.
-
This will be a movie I "acquire" through the internet and watch with my brother while drinking and complaining about it.
-
I have no intent to watch this.
-
I'm gonna see it out of interest. Besides its just a movie. Even if its good or a total piece of crap, when I wake up the next morning, my life will still chug on with no differences.
-
True true. Even with that being said though, I do not plan on watching this. Even though it's rare that I actually GO out and watch a movie, this one in particular, I am staying away from.
-
I can't even think of the last movie I saw at a movie theater. I just wait till they come out on DVD.
-
I probably won't watch it, but mostly because I haven't seen the original soo....
-
Interest level = 0%!
-
I'm not gonna lie, this at first I thought was a joke, but it's real alright. I may see this movie, just because of the legacy of Ghostbusters. It may ruin my childhood XD, but I'll probably just wait until redbox or something.
-
A lot of the humor in this movie feels forced, or just repeated; like the director and the comedians are leaning on jokes that have been abused to death, to be honest.
An Exorcist joke? Like, who hasn't already seen it in Scary Movie 2 or the movie Re-Possessed or any comedic horror movie ever, lol. The original Ghostbusters movie felt.... I dunno, intellectual? Like you can still learn something out of it even if it is fiction and get a good laugh.
Focus groups might stink, but they really should've ran a test run then unleash it so soon like that, lol.
-
I wasn't a major fan of the original. It was ok, it had some fun bits, it just didn't grab me in any way to make me fanatical over it, so I'm not going to have a major beef over a reboot/sequel/whatever this is not being 100% true to the original. And having said that, this one looks lame enough that I probably won't waste my time watching it.
-
I can't even think of the last movie I saw at a movie theater. I just wait till they come out on DVD.
Or at kisscartoon, if it's animated, or a certain percent CGI (like all the Chipmunks movies).
Why do I get the feeling this film will be basically the Slimer! (http://ghostbusters.wikia.com/wiki/Slimer!) of the Ghostbusters canon?
-
I am still having no faith in this new Ghostbusters film. Like, I have NO faith in it. I'm not even interested.
-
OK I changed my mind. The new trailer showed me what they're doing to Stay Puft and I was all, "Nope"
-
Just watched the newest trailer... it still looks pretty stupid in my opinion. Ruining an 80s classic.
-
I don't like when people say that.
Like, is your enjoyment of the 80's movie really going to be affected by a movie that you're not even going to go see? If so, then I suppose you really didn't enjoy it that much, right?
I mean, to me, if seems they're doing GB in modern days, so they're not like, redoing it.
-
Kind of on topic. Do you know the show Mike and Molly?
-
I don't like when people say that.

I'm sorry! I was going to edit it, but decided not to thinking no one would respond.
It isn't going to ruin the 80's classic. Not even in the slightest. It's just a shame when a good film of any kind has a poor sequel slightly tainting the "brand" or the "name" of the series.
But this new film is all on it's own in my mind, and who knows, maybe it will be good.
-
Haha, you don't have to be sorry! Man, you people are too nice XD
Ah alright, that makes more sense. It does kinda suck when a sequel is like the bad apple in the bushel. It just doesn't look good for the whole of the brand or name. While it doesn't make the previous bad, it just puts off other people who haven't seen the rest. I guess haha.
I always say that, it could be good, you never know. I feel though, say it is absolutely amazing, some people are still going to hate it because they set out to hate it. They don't want it to be good, they want to only love the original. Even though it's okay to like both things. Now this is on the off chance it's a good movie XP
-
You need to go in with and open mind, a blank slate.
An example is... you can't grade "Avatar: the Last Airbender" cartoon series, based on how the movie, "The Last Airbender" was.
-
I'm just gonna wait until it becomes available to download or on netflix. If other people like it and want to spend their money to go see it, great. I hope you have fun. But I do not wish to see that movie in theaters.
-
What if I asked you to go see the new Ghostbusters movie with me? Would you still decline?
-
Hohoho, incentive XP
-
It was just a curious question. ;D
-
..........................................yes I would go with you.
-
..........................................yes I would go with you.
Everyone would have been disappointed if you said no.
-
Awwww. ;D
He really likes her.
-
They're just friends haha. Good friends ^^
-
Yup. Very good friends. One day though. One day. I WILL learn her name!
-
What if I asked you to go see the new Ghostbusters movie with me? Would you still decline?
I'd go with you. And if we bring our own bowl, we'd get free popcorn.
-
Still working your way up to that bathtub sized popcorn bowl?? Haha XD
-
What if I asked you to go see the new Ghostbusters movie with me? Would you still decline?
I'd go with you. And if we bring our own bowl, we'd get free popcorn.
Not sure that is how it works. I know I couldn't go to any of these big corporate owned movie theaters, hold my own bowl, and get free popcorn. I wish it worked that way.
-
I think on a previous topic, Nostra mentioned how his local movie theater has his thing where if you bring your own bowl they give you free popcorn. And through the years he's systematically been bringing in larger and larger bowls.
-
No, I said I'd thought about it. Actually, I very seldom go to the theater. The last time I went with the family we saw Home (featuring the voice of Jim Parsons). I guess it depends on whether you think the big screen, $2 M&Ms, and $7 tickets truly enhance the experience, or prefer to watch it free on kisscartoon at home, in your underwear, with a plate of macaroni and cheese and Doritos. Of course, a pretty girl at your side can make even a couple DVD's on a 15-in screen an epic experience.
-
True dat. True dat.
-
I still enjoy watching stuff on a TV screen over a tiny computer screen... even if said computer screen is 27 inches.
TV's, couch, socks, your own food, and somebody to squeeze and snuggle up to is very nice, and sounds lovely.
-
I'm giving in
-
You're going to see the movie?
-
Weak.
;)
On another note, this film is getting atrocious reviews as well as some moderate ones. One of the biggest complaints other then the horrible CGI is the cast and acting. Been hearing a lot saying the film is uninspired.
-
Okay I just recently got out of seeing it me all I can say is......the haters are ducking idiots. Seriously. It may not be the original ghost busters but you know what? It's harmless. It exists. That's it. It was a nice movie. It really doesn't deserve as much hate as its been getting
-
At times though I kind of question your taste bro.
I mean, horrible CGI is a valid complaint. But the thing is, a movie is supposed to make a mark. It's supposed to do something. Not just "exist". If it just "exists" it's kind of failed.
And if the acting and casting is bad, that can ruin a movie just like great acting and casting can make a movie. I do agree that perhaps the movie is getting too much hate from nostalgia hacks, but if critics are also saying its a bit of a flunk then.... Yeah.
-
kinda spoilery
-
I question lots. ;)
A friend of mine who I consider to have good taste for the most part saw it last night. Said it wasn't good. They said it seemed very, blah. Like he got bored with it and just stayed because his girlfriend kept watching. Both thought it was pretty meh.
-
>"It's Harmless, it exists"
See, that's the problem. It shouldn't exist and it isn't harmless. If this movie does well that means studios will continue to ignore original ideas for quick money grab reboots, some of which are almost carbon copies of their original sources with some cast changes, shittier dialog, and worse acting. This is the kind of shit that keeps getting Transformers movies made.
-
Ugh, fricking Transformers movies. Asides from perhaps better effects (questionable), do the reboots have any reason to exist?
-
If people just go see movies that exist... then they will keep producing garbage or this that are just... there. No one wants bland, but if people keep going to see them, studios will keep producing bland. They will know the public is going to dish out money with their least amount of effort put into a film.
-
I didn't mean it quite like that. Pretty much the best way I can describe this movie is how Rob Walker says it in the video I linked above. "It's not as bad as it looks. There are moments where it does but that's not the whole frickin movie."
There are things done differently with this film that I openly welcomed and some that were kinda....meh. The receptionist character, yeah I get what they were going for but the humor just didn't do it for me.
But the climax. Oh my god the climax was so much frickin better than the original movie to me.
-
When you spend $170million on something other than feeding and clothing other people, it better be more than 'its not as bad as it looks.'
-
The problem is people keep comparing it to the original and of course that's gonna bring up some biased opinions. The original Ghostbusters, although a classic, wasn't a perfect a movie. It too had its flaws just like this one does. Both of them I think hold up equally but because of the original, the new one is gonna be bashed on.
-
The original was the only of its kind. The actors had chemistry because they were friends IRL (at the time, no need to get into Ramis and Murray hating each other after Groundhog Day) and worked together on SNL and other projects like "Caddie Shack". Ramis was a brilliant writer and Aykroyd was a great editor. The new one has nothing of the sort and serves only to say "hey remember that stuff some dead guy invented? hey here it is all over again with some remixed music and shitty CGI"
It's not a problem to compare it to the original and be disappointed. Without the original there is no Ghostbusters. The second you use the word "reboot" you are setting yourself up to say "we're making the old one BUT BETTER" and it isn't. They easily could have made it take place in Chicago and be about a group of women who want to set up their own Ghostbusting Franchise and have it comfortably in the universe the original created. Remember, its a business even in the original, so its not out of the question that Ray or Venkman would wanna cash in on the success and train other ghostbusters in other cities. But, they didn't do that, so here we are.
-
Have you seen the movie Kyrl?
-
I will when I can bootleg it. That doesn't make my response to "The problem is comparing it to the original" less valid. If you don't want people comparing it to the original, don't make a reboot.
-
Look I'm gonna say to each their own as I always do but I don't think its fair to judge a movie just by nostalgia for the originals or the fact that it IS a reboot. I'm not the only one who likes it. A TON of people do. All I ask is that when you DO finally see it, be willing to at least give it somewhat of a chance.
That's what we did with a reboot of my little pony. And look where we are now? (Not saying Ghostbusters will produce the same thing just making an example)
-
I'm not judging on nostalgia. I'm judging on another soulless reboot produced to print money because the studio is too scared to produce anything original. I'll give it the same chance I gave Terminator Genysis, which turned out to be equivalent to bad fanfiction. I won't give it my money though.
-
allrighty then
-
Also, comparing it to MLP is a poor man's argument. MLP has had 4 iterations (5 if you ask certain people) and each one has been completely different from the one before. G3.5 is largely despised by even the people who grew up with G1. G1 ponies is so far removed from G4 that the only thing they share is the same names and the fact they have talking horses.
-
Alright. I'm getting hell from multiple ends for liking the movie and I'm too tired to keep arguing. Sleep tight kyrl. Pathans well resume tomorrow
-
I'm fine with people liking it. That's great. :) I'm just going to stick with my original plan, and not watch it. ;)
-
Here's the thing Blurr. You can enjoy the movie, there's no problem with that. Just don't go trying to tell people a shitty movie is good. I can enjoy cinematic masterpieces like Birdemic, but I'm not gonna tell people it's actually a good movie.
-
Is it really fair to call a movie shirt when you haven't even seen it though?
-
And I'm not trying to tell people they're wrong flat out or it's a good movie. I'm just trying to encourage people to have a little bit more of an open mind for it, despite what it is. Whether seen in theaters or through the. Et.
-
Guys, guys. Everyone has their own opinions. Some people like Napoleon Dynamite and call it a classic, others don't get the humor or don't like it.
Same with this. Just let the poor guy enjoy his film and lets not get on him about it. :) He is simply stating, that if someone has an open mind, and want's to see something, go check it out. It's not being compared to the original in his mind. Just view it as it's own separate entity.
Sort of like Teen Titans Go. If it was it's own entity and not compared to the original Teen Titans, would it be that bad? (yeah.. kinda) The thing is, both those shows appeal to different audiences, just as this new movie may do here.
-
Hence why I said, it's okay for him to enjoy it. I don't really care if he likes/loves it. As it's not skin off my back.
As for open mindedness, I'm pretty open when it comes to movies, but I draw my limit. Trailers are supposed to sell you to an idea. I having not seen the original can't even compare the new one to the old one, and even then I'm like "Mmm, yeaaaaah no."
But to each his own. Just don't try to tell me it's good when it ain't haha. If it's the "so bad it's good" variety, then hell to the yeah I'll go watch it just to make fun of it. Because that's fun.
-

Sharknado. Possibly the great piece of art in our time.
-
Truly the best Hollywood has ever produced XP
-
I did end up seeing the movie with my girlfriend. She wanted to see it for some reason. We went to a morning showing to save mucho money.
-
Gotta save those munes!
So what'd you and your girlfriend think?
-
It was pretty bad. The actors were pretty poor at their duties. It really seemed forced and they were just reading lines to make a joke. Nothing felt natural.
She didn't like the main cast and I would have to agree. I have seen the original Ghostbusters, but I viewed this as it's own thing. So as a movie on it's own, it wasn't good. Below average.
-
Saving money is the best way to do it. :)
Thank you for your opinion on the film.
-
I don't see that you have commented on this film at all until now, RainySunshine. Did you want to see this film?
-
I don't see that you have commented on this film at all until now, RainySunshine. Did you want to see this film?
No I did not. Hence why I never commented here. I had no interest to see it.
But you know, if the boss wants to do or see something, I just sort of have to do it.
-
They tried the "next-gen"thing already with Extreme Ghostbusters.. so it's not even a terribly original concept. That series even had a girl on the team (voiced by Queen of the Bronies Tara Strong, no less) -- and now it's.... a reboot with three girls? It sounds like a really bad parody: Two Broke Girls with a paranormal overlay. Imagine ninety minutes of vagina jokes strung together by cute CGI ghosties.
-
Imagine ninety minutes of vagina jokes strung together by cute CGI ghosties.
The CGI was not good. They didn't even make it look good.
-
You want something so bad you have to see it to believe it? Try searching for a Christmas special this year called, "The Christmas Tree"
-
Oh boi! This'll be fun!
-
Iron Sky is another solid 'so bad its good' movie.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Py_IndUbcxc
-
Iron Sky was silly fun. Plus, music by Laibach! The end was a bit hamfisted though.
-
I saw we had a topic for this. I wouldn't recommend this movie.
-
Well.... this is Ghostbusters related.
-
Mm, like the title card. Can't watch yet. Will as soon as I can.
I believe Mad Max did the whole feminist angle a hell of a lot better and more subtly.
-
I am watching the video now. Hahaha, I linked it before I watched it all. I'm bad. The host also references herself as a pony, (Rarity).
-
this is gonna be the Nostalgia Critic's next review.
-
Okay guys. For those of you who don't wanna see the new movie, then I at least urge you to take a maybe a third of the time it would take you to watch a full length movie and view the Nostalgia Critic's review of it.
-
Hm, I do like NC. I'll give it a look see.
