"Applejack's Day Off," is the 10th episode of season 6, and the 127th episode overall.
SYNOPSIS: "Twilight and Spike are tasked to work at Sweet Apple Acres while Rarity tries to get Applejack to loosen up at the spa."
PROMO:
-
This synopsis reminds me of something that would be from season 1. From the promo teaser, they do appear to be using a ton of new scenery and new locations in Sweet Apple Acres.
-
Hm, so they're trying to get Applejack to stop talking about apples?
That's somewhat odd, if they make Applejack uncomfortable and not able to relax. We've seen her kick back and relax before in the spa with the girls. I think the episode might just focus more on Twi and Spike trying to help at the farm and hijinks ensue.
-
...*good time for an applejack sneeze ;)*
Seriously though, this scenario is something that could have a lot happen or be a mellow kind of episode. I'm betting that it's going to have hijinks and a lot happens XD
-
Everytime I don't have much hope for an episode, I am always surprised. Last week I didn't have too much interest and we got like four sneezes!
So this week, I am going to guess it will focus on Twi and Spike / and Apple and Marshmallow about 50/50. Maybe slightly less Spike and Twi.
-
Getting ready to pone it up.
-
No sneezes, but was a pretty good episode
-
Was not expecting this in this episode. It was pretty good. :)
-
Tons of new scenery and lots of new animation tricks. They animated backgrounds in walk cycles, which is very nice instead of a static background. Overall, the majority of scenes in this episode were all newly made for this episode.
Rarity says, "schedule," as someone from the UK would say, "schedule."
-
Another nice episode. Best season so far indeed. ;D
The opening scene was slightly creepy. Rarity's face... :o
I "loled" and "awwed" at Applejack imitating a chicken. ^-^
-
This is easily the best season so far. Every episode almost has been solid and good. :)
Rarity's face at the beginning scared me. It was.... ewww.
This episode, we saw the most of Equestria's technology, like... ever! Pipes and stuff. Gauges. HAMMERS! Sprinkler systems.
What is the accent supposed to be on the spa pones?
Strangely a lot of male pones at that spa wanting... ehherm.... services.
Rainbow Dash wears Tank slippers.
I liked Applejack wearing the tool utility belt. I giggled.
It was overall a good lesson to learn. But thankfully I don't have any faults like that. For instance, before I ever post on the forum, I spin in a circle three times, clap four times, and blink twice. Nothing major.
-
Spa ponies are supposed to have some European accent

Guess I'll be the oddball this time. I didn't like it much. AJ came off as dumb. The Spa ponies problem made a degree of sense (nothing they did for ponies who don't understand how plumbing works would be out of the ordinary) but AJ on her own farm doing a bunch of ridiculous shit just felt off. I get the moral, I feel like it's delivery sacrificed AJ's intelligence to arrive at it.
Here I thought the direction they were going was people relax differently and AJ was going to be one of those 'antsy if nothing to do' types who likes to solve problems. Oh well.
On a side note I was more hoping for a Twi and Spike episode where they banter with each other while running the farm. So might have been disappointed from the getgo.
-
Rarity and Applejack.... hmm. That dynamic was still there between them. Applejack seems very stubborn and kind of dumb at times. Rarity seemed childish and disappointed (I can understand). Possibly selfish. Twilight came off as stupid, as she couldn't even feed some pigs. She's partially running a country...
I liked it, but we saw some of the more bad sides of characters. Still a good episode though, lots of new scenery too.
-
Twilight came off as stupid, as she couldn't even feed some pigs.
That's the thing though, it wasn't Twilight's fault. AJ gave her some borderline OCD instructions on how to feed them. The whole third act made AJ look incompetent, and its a shame because the first 2/3rds she was a badass.

I agree. I loved seeing Applejack be all Home Improvement, but then when she got home, she was incompetent. It was a shame.
-
Shame on you Spike. Is giving best mudpone your idiot ball how you repay your life debt to her?
-
Twilight should feel dumb overall though. She couldn't figure out how to feed pigs, then when Applejack comes along and shows stupidity, somehow Twilight becomes smart again. Or at least has common sense.

Do we all agree this is one of the most horrible images we have seen from this show?

Now can we agree that this image of Twilight makes us wonder what she is thinking? :)

Applejack pout... best face?

Or is this better?

AJ came off as dumb.
Habit is an iron shirt?
-
I like those screen caps, but woooweee, Rarity was ugly in that first one... How does a horn do that?
-
That is one of the most horrifying screen caps ever...
-
When I saw it, I thought: How could they show this horrifying sight in this episode when it's pretty obvious it'll make a few kids crap their pants? :o

Yikes. Was there poison joke extract in that steam (http://i245.photobucket.com/albums/gg78/evalana/blog/mlpfim_ep0929.png)?
-
Ha! One has to wonder. Though Poison Joke affects ponies differently.

I was thinking the same thing! This wasn't like Spongebob or something.... though I will say the stories in MLP have been more mature then Spongebob recently. lol!
-
Ehhh...this episode was kinda weak to me.
-
Ehhh...this episode was kinda weak to me.
What made you consider it weak? :)
-
A lot of people thought it was boring. I blame that on the previous episode. XD
-
I thought it was a good episode, not great, but good. :) Overall it was enjoyable even though the characters seemed a tad off because of their lack of common sense.
-
AJ came off as dumb.
Habit is an iron shirt?
I think my complaint is less the moral and more how AJ's routines came off as a bunch of OCD rituals rather than her taking the long way to a destination. Up till this point, especially in Applebuck Season, her work was hard and tedious but not unnecessary. Now it makes her look like half the reason she busts her ass is because she's a borderline idiot.
-
Yeah, I see that too. I always thought Applejack was a hard worker, and I know she is, but now I question if she is just doing busywork and being dumb. Maybe she is just doing things stupidly because it is unnecessary. I don't know...
-
Maybe it's just the way she was taught... although if this is true, wouldn't that send kids a pretty bad message of "Your elders are full of it and just because this is how they've always done it and how they've told you to do it doesn't mean that it's the best or even the most efficient way"? Learning new things is are hard for me, because I always find some reason to complain that "the old ways was better", and I'm never really happy. Applejack has always struck me as a bit stubborn and a "traditional values"-- a gal after my own heart, with a lease on several other organs.
-
I just watched the episode.
Guys guys... That one spa pony, the male one with the towels... He's kinda cute. I really liked his design and voice. Just... Unf.
And also, what the fudge AJ? I thought you were an expert farmhand, why are you doing all this stupid stuff? I mean, the chickens and the fence I understand, and maybe the irrigation system, but what the hell with the pigs? I mean, I get the lesson, but seriously? You'd think it'd be Rarity, or even Twilight doing these dumb things. It wasn't a bad episode, it was just... Bizarre.
-
I think they could have done the same lesson without making Applejack look so dumb. That was my biggest flaw with the episode, otherwise I loved it. :)
I liked the spa pones. :D
-
That Applejack pout though, oh my gosh, absolutely adorable.
-
That was one of my fav things in the eppie. :D
-
Eh, I figure it was written all obviously dumb and silly to make it funnier for kids watching the show. It still could've been done better, though off the top of my head I can't really come up with a better example. But that's why I'm not making the big bucks as a show writer!
-
I feel I could have come up with better examples that were not so far fetched. I know why they did far fetched examples, so that the dumb viewer would certainly not get the wrong ideas.
-
I'd agree if the spa hadn't had such a believable problem.
-
It isn't their expertise to know plumbing issues.
Just like I would almost not know nuclear fission issues...
-
That's my point though. The Spa had a problem that made sense once AJ explained it, and as you said, the spa ponies don't know how plumbing works. You can see something like that actually happening.
AJ knows how plumbing works yet couldn't figure out how to work her own irrigation system? Yet Twilight and Rarity could? That's really where my gripe comes from, it's like AJ's normal character is too reasonable so they had to make her dumb as a brick at the end to force the moral.
-
Applejack knows farming, yet she was as dumb as a doorknob when it came to actually carrying out her various farm tasks. I understand the point and what everyone is saying now. It is really a shame they did that to probably one of the best pones there is.
-
They drilled it in the heads of little kids. They were thinking little kids were absolutely stupid. I think in some aspects, kids now days are smarter then we all were as kids, in other aspects, not.
-
It was an okay episode. I feel Applejack came off as completely dense, but it was nice to see so many characters brought back up again and shown. 7/10.
-
It was hard for me to rate this one. It had positives, but also negatives. They just made Applejack too... dumb. It was a problem for a period of time to make her a dumb farmer. :P Shame, this episode had that problem. 7/10.
-
It wouldn't have been such a bad episode if they didn't make her look SOOOO stupid in the third act. Such a shame. With that it was still a nice episode. 8/10.
-

7/10.
