We can't figure out what is wrong.  Which is why we've posted for help for over two years.  It's beyond my understanding.

You can still do it the janky way.  Quite my post to see how I did it.  You have to go to the users profile, and in the URL it tells you which number member they are.  So I am 17.  I go to a post and type {member=17}Silverwing{/member}  Replace the {} with []

It takes way more effort now to do this.
