Haven't had much time for gaming cause, y'know.. life.. school.. but when I do get to the chance, i'm always up for any of the Batman Arkham games.  Just got into Uncharted actually, and I think it's awesome, buut.. I am a huge Indiana Jones fan so I might be a little bias..  We like what we like though, right? haha

I've only played Uncharted, the first one.  I loved it, until it had that.... unexpected ending that I didn't much car for (dem magical bits).  But the game was fun.  I never played any after that, and I don't know why.  I do wanna buy the new one when it comes out on the Playstation 4.

OOh Jak and Dexter!  Oh man!  I used to love those! Super Smash Bros, Sly Cooper, the Sonic games, used to play em all the time with my brothers.

Uncharted looks good too.  I'm still playing Grand Theft Auto V.  I am actually replaying some of the story lines to get a different ending. ;)

League of legends? I have not played it :( but a friend of mine was going to draw the character Ahri sneezing for me over on deviantart ^^ It's a friend of mine that hasn't drawn a sneeze yet though so I don't know how it'll turn out, but that's ok.

I love Sonic, and the sonic games I love too :D My personal favorite is Sonic 3 (even with that BLASTED carnival level) and Sonic adventure DX/Sonic adventure 2. On the DS there's a hidden gem called Sonic Chronicles: the dark brotherhood. It's WAY different than most sonic games, and one of the villains in that game is named Shade. She's awesome!! :D

I know this isn't the kind of game you guys play.... maybe... but I got this game from a friend over Christmas called, Beam NG Drive, or some weird name like that.  It is this physics based game with the best deformities for car deformation I have ever seen.  It is ridiculous!  Lol!

I don't see any major transportation networks!  Is there a freeway?  What about an airport?  What are you doing, stranding these on small backroads?

Game controversy!  A pose deemed too sexy!

http://www.ign.com/articles/2016/03/29/blizzard-to-change-overwatch-pose-following-fan-complaints

Aren't almost all characters in games oversexualized or over exaggerated?  I have never played this game, nor have I really heard about it, so I don't know any context here.

Holy crap people will complain about anything. I'm aware of Overwatch, some-what excited for it (some-what because I want to play it but am not sure if I can run it) but I wasn't aware of this "controversy".

Why? Because I find this crap dumb.

Oh god I saw this. Or more accurately my friend showed me. The character is supposedly a really fun, kind of cheeky character. So it doesn't seem far fetched to me that she'd be in a pose like this, looking at someone behind her holding her guns in the air.
I think it's utterly stupid. She's not being oversexualized in my opinion. It's just a butt.
If anything, the people saying it's oversexualized are making it that way because they're looking at it sexually.
I can stand like this with my yoga pants when looking behind my shoulder at my friends, does that make me oversexualized?

THANK YOU! Fuck. Yeah, the character is kinda like... witty-ish, cheeky, etc.

And just because
>butt
>female

people flip their shit.
Title: Re: Video Games

So in reality, maybe three or four people complained and the media and Tumblr verse took it to the extreme?
Title: Re: Video Games
Post by: Death Blossom on 2016-03-30 04:27:27
Basically.
And Blizzard (I heard) caved into their demands. Now my friend is worried because these people saw they won with this, they'll start complaining about the other female character who is apparently more sexualization or something, but it's part of her character or something.

I don't know, I just hate SJW's. They ruin everything. Literally everything. You want to make a difference in the world? Get your butt off the computer and go to Africa like MS did and do some real good for this world.

SJW = social justice warriors.  That is for those who don't know.

I don't have a problem with that pic.  There are far more important issues to get worked up about.  Besides, most games, let face it gals, are geared towards men and boys (possibly the same thing?).  Though I also don't think a game cover with sexy girls is going to cause someone to buy it unless they are actually interested about the game.

The pose is DLC though. It doesn't even come with the basic game, it's something you buy as extra.

Sort of like how Rockstar games got in trouble years ago for a mod on GTA San Andreas which allowed a player to have shenanigan fully clothed with a prostitute.  It wasn't in game's release, but was added by nodders so that anyone could download the mod and play that.  Rockstar got in trouble for what game modders did.

I could not help but be fascinated by this.  It is virtual reality using an Oculus Rift and a green screen.  The beginning of the video is the most amazing part how immersive virtual reality will be.  It already can be with certain games and the right setup.  This guy has it set up right.

Title: Re: Video Games

But ponies. And using the same designs.

It's why the Fallout animation team that I'm on had to scrap all of their models because they were too similar to the puppets MLP uses. And had to make completely new ones from scratch. They took well over a year and half to make, and then even longer to rig them up and stuff and create their walk cycles. T'was hard times.

Then there's Button's Adventures that got taken down because it also, was too similar to the how's style.

It should be well known by now, Hasbro's team mate that flags these projects is a bitch. It isn't Hasbro themselves, but one of their distributors or something that pulls all these flags.

I just found this interesting, but looking at July's top selling games you had Grand Theft Auto V, Overwatch, and Minecraft.

GTA V continues to dominate, almost 3 years after its release. Sales of GTA V track almost exactly with new console purchases. In other words, when someone buys a PS4 or Xbox One, they almost always buy GTA V to go with it.

I was never someone to run over people.  I tried my best to hurt anyone other then the people I was told to go after, so I could do the story.

In missions when the police were after me, I did my absolute best not to fire or hurt them.  I just tried to make my way out.  It makes the game more challenging.

This is the most messed up, yet therapuetic games I've ever played.  Enjoy my misspellings, but I don't even care right now.

My friend bought me this game called, "Paint The Town Red" for Christmas and all you do is go around beating the living snot out of people with your fists or hands.  These two pics (bloody gory) are two pics after I managed to survive two major fights.  One in a bar and the other at a night club.  This game takes stupid gore to a whole new level using Minecraft shaped characters.

IMAGES (http://imgur.com/a/8w7Cy)

Even better, you can play it online with a friend.  Haven't done that yet... but yeah.  Mindless game.

That is blood and guts, some limbs, organs, brains, a few bodies strewn in for good measure.

As unlikely as this may sound, I don't play games with a lot of gore, and this was so over the top, using Minecraft characters, it was more funny then anything.  So yes, it gave me a good laugh.  I would like to play it online with a friend.  It's like fighting a horde of zombies... except they are just angry people fighting each others and you at times.

All PlayStation 4's Gets Bump to 1TB, Prices Stay the Same

Sony has brought the regular PlayStation 4 in for an upgrade. Starting this month, the entry model in the PS4 ecosystem will come with a 1TB hard drive, while the MSRP has held steady at the same $300 price point as the previous 500GB model.

The doubled storage space should be a welcome upgrade for those looking to join the 53+ million existing PS4 owners. The PS4 Pro continues on with the same storage space for $400.

Gamers have more options than ever to increase the storage space on either model. While hard drive swaps are relatively simple with the PS4, the recent 4.50 software update enabled external hard drive support. With modern games requiring more and more space, those that are reluctant to tear apart their new console no longer have to worry.

UBISOFT TEASES FAR CRY 5

Ubisoft has revealed Far Cry 5 will be set in Hope County, Montana. The location was revealed by way of teaser trailers posted on YouTube. The videos are short and focused on the environment itself, though there's a disturbing element in each one.  A release date has not been announced.  There will be a worldwide reveal on May 26, 2017.  There are unlikely rumors this is a PS4 exclusive, but it is possible that Sony inked a deal for exclusive content.

So I keep seeing people making topics for games... do we place them here or is this a general chat, or should we just make topics for every game we want?

It is up to you guys for now.  So far pretty much everyone has been using the correct topics and just using them, but it seems some members are willy nilly creating topics, which they are freely allowed to do.  Others just have a sense to use one of the general boards, maybe gauge the popularity of a topic and work from there.
Title: Re: Video Games
Post by: Ari-Dynamic on 2017-06-09 08:40:09
I don't like the idea of merging topics into one, especially if it's a board called "Video Games".

Merging them into this thread just means now I'm at the mercy of seeing my post bumped down by random conversations in a 'main' thread. I'm not going to search for something here when I can just create a new thread for a specific game in question.

If it boils down to merging stuff people talk about into one cohesive thread, then I would suggest a 'Search Topic' option so I don't have to hunt for what I wrote.

Or you could sticky this thread, since this is the general video game topic.
Title: Re: Video Games
Post by: Darrin on 2017-06-09 16:58:20
We do have a search topic.  But if too many topics that are similar are made for the same game, they will be merged, but for now, don't worry about it.

I wonder if they even update sometimes?  Lol!  Many of the featured games are still very old.

Atari reveals first new console in 25 years! (http://fortune.com/2017/07/18/atari-ataribox-video-game-console/)

French video game maker Atari SA provided the first details of its "Ataribox," the iconic company's first console in more than two decades.
The company said "Ataribox" is inspired by its previous consoles, incorporating a raised back and a front panel that can be either of wood or glass. The console will come in two types: a wood, and a black/red version.
"Our objective is to create something new, that stays true to our heritage, while appealing to both old and new fans of Atari," the company said.
Originally founded in 1972 by Nolan Bushnell and Ted Dabney, the pioneering video game company has changed hands several times, most recently in 2008 when it was acquired by French company Infogrames—which subsequently rebranded itself as Atari.
The company did not provide information on timing, pricing, games or detailed hardware specifications.Atari, founded in 1972, dominated the early video game market with classic games such as Pong, Asteroids and Missile Command.

Is 'lit af' a good thing?  I have no idea what that means.  I assume it means "lit as fudge" which I would assume it means the game is high?

I've enjoyed Far Cry games in the past and do want to play this one.  How is the openess of it and how big and detailed is the world?  Is it better then Far Cry 4?

Lit as fuck.
And yes, it's a good thing. A very good thing.

I've never played 4. I've only played 3 and 5. The map is pretty goddamn big, you can drive cars, fly planes, ride boats, and there's always something going on in the world near you. Be it some cultists about to execute a civilian, or cultists on the road searching for some shit to shoot.

I dunno about the map creator. Never used it.

It's very beautiful graphics wise.

Sometimes I call bullshit on things like my bullets not hitting, but for the most part I don't really have that many complaints about the game. My only problem is the framerate, but that's probably just my own problem, because I CAN get it to run at a nice 60 with high settings.

One thing that kinda annoyed me though was that from what I understand, they took away the ability to heal yourself on the fly. You know how in previous games you were able to rip the bullets out of your body, snap your limbs back in place, all that shit? You don't do that in this game. You need medkits to patch yourself up. You can do it while running away, but it's not nearly as badass as ripping out shrapnel from your body.

I kinda just suck, so some things kinda annoy the shit out of me more than others, but it's great. I recommend doing as much as you can on the map's 3 different sections (no they're not sectioned off, they're just sectioned on the map. Territories. You can freely go to each one if not mistaken.) before tackling a majority of the story missions. It gives you a lot more to do. I'm about 10 hours in and I'm still doing some things in a specific territory. My friend said he did 2 territories in like 7 hours, but that might have been because he rushed. That or he's just overall better at the game than I am.

Video Game Champ a video game chump?  Billy Mitchell Being STRIPPED! (https://www.telegraph.co.uk/gaming/news/donkey-kong-world-record-holder-documentary-star-billy-mitchell/)

How do you like that for a title?  I came up with that all on my own!

he king of Donkey Kong has been stripped of his crown, after an organisation that tracks video game scores announced that he had cheated.

Twin Galaxies, which advises the Guinness Book of World Records, today said it would disqualify Billy Mitchell, previously recognised as the first player to earn a million points on the 1981 arcade game Donkey Kong.

Should be a strange year.  No info from Sony yet this year if they will do much of anything.

I think E3 2018 will be a let down from the big two (Sony and Microsoft) since they are focused on other things and the future.  It will allow smaller players such as Atari, Nintendo, and Sega to steal some limelight if they have something to show.
Title: Re: Video Games

EA's press conference was today.  Nothing that great.

But one thing EA highly stressed was they are using forward to the "future of gaming" which to them seems to be streaming games.  :(

Link (http://www.ign.com/articles/2018/06/09/e3-2018-the-rise-of-streamed-gaming-is-2018s-scariest-new-trend)

EA is working hard to make streaming games a bigger reality.

As well, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot recent comments that the next console generation would be the last, that future starts to seem even more believable for streaming games. Basically he’s saying we won’t need consoles with fancy hardware in them because we can just stream all of our games from a cloud service.

A lot of negative feedback from gamers about Fallout 76.  People were already mad it was an online only game that FORCES you to be online all the time.  There is NO single player aspect.  Even more are now upset about the graphics calling them "subpar."  Now IGN has come out and said the world is very empty.... uh oh....

"Bethesda might have taken the unexpected sideways step of turning another of its largest single-player properties into a multiplayer game, but I don’t think I’d term this a “massively” multiplayer RPG. "

Source 1 (https://www.ign.com/videos/2018/10/08/fallout-76s-graphics-look-rough)
Source 2 (https://www.ign.com/articles/2018/10/08/fallout-76-is-a-strangely-lonely-multiplayer-game?read)

Is this game going to be a strike out?  Many fans are worried.

Game Informer isn't too sure they liked Fallout 76 either...

They test demoed for three hours, and they weren't sure they really liked it.
Title: Re: Video Games
Post by: Wolfwood on 2018-10-12 15:00:50
I watched that 3hr demo thing and it looked extremely boring.  It was just jumping from point A to point B with little to no interaction.  It looked like a step backwards for a Bethesda game.  And why is it if in this game, you are the first person to leave the vaults in the US.... why are there tons of other people around still?  And they looked clean.

Kotaku and IGN are also not thinking this Fallout will be not so good.  So far no one is really praising it.

I am calling it right here and right now, that if they don't do a major overhaul and delay it, this game will be a major bomb and a failure.  I hope they don't do this kind of thing to Elder Scrolls.

Yeah, it's probably gonna be a failure. Especially since it's ONLINE ONLY. Games where you have to be connected to the internet at all times are always doomed to fail. Because once there's no internet connection, or the servers get shut down, bye bye game.

I'm just sitting here hoping for another game like Fallout New Vegas.

Why do game companies keep trying to make this online only stuff?  Everyone seems to hate it, yet they keep pushing it.

It might have to do something with money. I wouldn't really understand much about it. It's kind of like asking why they're still doing loot boxes or battle royale mode. They're over saturated and people are annoyed by them, but they sell.

I don't honestly see myself how continually online makes a developer more money.  I can see why an online mode gives them more money such as online updates and DLC, but that can also be done with "not always online" games too.  So I am not sure.

Video of a tester for Fallout 76.  He states he is excited and had fun, but in goes in depth why he thinks it's so far very shallow and why the fun won't last long unless they can deepen the game.

I have never been a Fallout fan, always felt their games are flat.  But Skyrim was the same way.  Bethesda has been producing some weak titles lately, even with the acclaim Skyrim got.  They've dumbed down every game lately, and there are just so many other games that do a better job at what they do.... Let me introduce you to the Witcher III.

Skyrim was a big deal and stayed a big deal, but now we can look back and see how little it did.  Same with all the Fallout titles.  Oblivion did more then Skyrim, and Morrowind did more then both.  Bethesda has been making extremely buggy games and doesn't even try to fix them.

Very few games are holding up and showing that they are worth while.  You got your GTA V single player, Witcher III, and a few others.  Bethesda needs to step up their game and make something truly incredible.

I'd like to throw in my two cents and say that New Vegas is an excellent example of a 3d Fallout game. Which Bethesda didn't have too much of a part in, btw. Obsidian made the game.

I still need to get to playing GTAV. I dunno so much about Witcher 3. I kiiiiind of want to try it out, but my interest is very minimal.

RED DEAD REDEMPTION II SALES UPDATE

Take-Two Interactive and Rockstar Games announced that Red Dead Redemption 2 sold through more than $725 million worth in its first three days of sales. That indicates roughly 10 million copies sold at the outset (and if you consider average game prices, 12 million units at $60 each), according to analyst Ben Schachter at Macquarie Research. And it means that game sales could hit 15 million or 20 million copies sold by the end of Christmas, he said. Based on my own take, that means the game could be profitable by the end of the year.

Red Dead Redemption 2 has sold about 70 percent as well as Grand Theft Auto V in its first three days. Schachter’s own estimate for sales in the initial quarter are at 15 million copies, a conservative number, and he said that investor expectations are at 20 million copies. If Red Dead stays at the 70 percent level, 20 million is doable by early December, Schachter said in a report. With an average rating of 97 out of 100 on review aggregator Metacritic, the prospects look good.  At 20 million copies sold, overall revenue for Rockstar Games would be $860 million.

So we take revenue estimated at $860 million, and then costs of $540 million, and this game will have a profit of $320 million by December 31. Add to that revenues from Red Dead Online, which are likely to be good. The breakeven point would be about 12.5 million games sold.

Pachter estimates that Take-Two gets $100 million in revenue per quarter from GTA Online, which has been out for five years. That’s been a huge success, with the peak quarter at maybe $125 million. It will take Red Dead Online some time to ramp up its revenues. But it’s a conservative bet to say it could generate $50 million per quarter for Take-Two, or an additional $200 million a year. It will have costs as well, but not nearly as much as it took to create the game.

Into perspective, GTA V broke sales records of all forms of entertainment when released.  Rockstar and experts never thought RDR II would even come close to what GTA V, and they didn't expect it too.  That wasn't the goal.  GTA V broke records including the Highest revenue generated by an entertainment product in 24 hours and the Fastest entertainment property to gross $1 billion.  GTA V sold nearly 12 million copies in the first 24hrs and hit over $1 billion in sales in less than three days.

Full list of Grand Theft Auto V record-breaking achievements:

1. Best-selling action-adventure videogame in 24 hours

2. Best-selling videogame in 24 hours

3. Fastest entertainment property to gross $1 billion

4. Fastest videogame to gross $1 billion

5. Highest grossing videogame in 24 hours

6. Highest revenue generated by an entertainment product in 24 hours

‘Fallout 76’ day one patch is 52 GB, bigger than the 45 GB game (https://www.digitaltrends.com/gaming/fallout-76-massive-day-one-patch/).  <That usually isn't a good sign.  Means they were worried about a lot and had to change a lot.

Most early reviews are saying the game is extremely glitchy and has tons of mistakes.  Many are game breaking. In the BETA, people reported many problems, but Bethesda has said those bugs are here to stay for the game release.  There are no NPCs.  People are saying the game is empty and dead.

The Shakiest Vault-Tec Experiment Yet (https://screenrant.com/fallout-76-beta-impressions/).

Game comes out Nov 14, 2018.

We will wait for more big companies to release their reviews.

But my hopes aren't high for this new Fallout.  I don't plan to buy it. I just want a good single player game.  Hopefully the next Elder Scrolls will be that game.

FALLOUT 76 REVIEWS Coming In

Fallout 76 not getting good reviews as predicted and expected here.  Most reviews say it is a bad story, dead world, bugs galore, and repetitive.

Bethesda’s first multiplayer Fallout title was released recently. The welcoming party wasn’t too pleased, however, as Fallout 76 gets bombarded with negative reviews from the Metacritic users.  The final verdict being a 2.4 out of 10.   (https://segmentnext.com/2018/11/17/fallout-76-gets-nuked-negative-reviews-users/)

Fallout 76 is a horrible game.  It was a waste of my money!  Extremely disappointed in MYSELF for still buying it.  Lucky for me I got to return it and THEY ACCEPTED THAT!  Thank you!  Thank you!  Went right back to Red Dead Redemption II.

Let me assure you guys, save your money.  Don't buy Fallout 76.  It's such a hot mess.  The game is so empty and devoid of content. Maybe in a year or so they will have patched and fixed stuff (they won't)... but just pass off on it.

We have a lot of games coming up here now.  One of the sillier games, Just Cause 4 is coming out.  Looks like a slightly modified JC3... but that won't stop me!  Okay... maybe.

Fallout 76 may be the biggest blunder and bomb of the year... Possibly the past five years. Bethesda has dropped the price $25 in one week. It is getting panned by reviewers everywhere. Maybe they will learn they can't sell a game that took very little effort on their part. Bad engine, bad graphics, no story, pretty much all reused assets. It's a joke they tried to pass this off. They have dropped the price twice in a week since the release. They must be selling horribly.

I feel bad for the people who got fooled and bought Fallout 76.  It may be one of the worst games in a decade or so.  One of the biggest blatant lies.  It will have RUINED Bethesda's reputation and make people rethink all their products including the Elder Scrolls.  It may have screwed their business long term and ruined their major IP's.

That said, people were still fooled somehow and bought this because by no means did Bethesda lose money on this.  They made millions.

Sales Numbers (https://www.pcgamesn.com/fallout-4/fallout-4-sales-figures-and-player-numbers-some-irradiated-stats).

They've most likely sold several million copies and have made at the very least $24 million dollars.

'Fallout 76' Or 'Battlefield 5' Which Release And Aftermath Has Been The Bigger Disaster?  EA Follows Bethesda's Game And Puts BF5 At Clearance Price Due To Horrible Sales

Despite somewhat troublesome release dates scheduled a little too close to the release of games like Red Dead Redemption 2 and Call of Duty Black Ops 4, both Fallout 76 and Battlefield 5 arrived to console and PC gamers.

Battlefield 5 sales are down 83% and the game has been out one week.  They have reduced the price 50% from it's original $60 dollar price.

Battlefield 5 has received some love for its gameplay and visuals, however, it has been taken to task about its myriad of release dates and a rather incomplete feature set. A number of modes–including the battle royale feature–aren't available as of yet and that's not sitting right with fans. Aside from the issues that are related to the game's development and engineering, there are also many complaints about historically incorrect inclusions of women on the front lines of World War II and how they push an agenda related to race and women.

This drama dates back months before the game released. Once some gamers got wind of the level of involvement women had in the War Stories portion of the game, it made many of them uncomfortable. EA defended the inclusion of women in their game, but not so intelligently, then CCO Patrick Soderlund dished an unfortunate ultimatum to the game's community. "If you don't like it, don't buy it," became a topic of conversation amongst the Battlefield and gaming community.

Soderlund is no longer with EA, but as the game's deficiencies are coming to light, it seems grumbles about Soderlund's comments are starting to resurface. Whether related or not, Battlefield 5's sales are way down. Perhaps, it's not totally fair, but this kind of thing is a reality in the world of entertainment. While EA and Battlefield 5 are not exactly in an enviable position, they are still better off than Bethesda and Fallout 76.

Not only are people lambasting the game, but they're also criticizing the company's issuance of a nylon bag as opposed to the more stylish canvas version that was promised when the publisher/developer was wooing gamers into buying the $200 collector's edition. As bad as that sounds, things got worse when Bethesda offered 500 Atoms (a form of in-game currency) to customers who received the cheaper bag.

Apparently, Bethesda is even being investigated behind this fiasco. This is obviously a bad look in every way for Bethesda and Fallout 76, and due to the poor reception for the game, I'd have to say Fallout has been the biggest disaster. If Battlefield 5 continues to improve stability and adds in the battle royale mode in March as planned, things are still looking up. I'm not sure any update and combination of time can save Fallout 76.

So i finally got my PS4 set up. First new game I got was Brawlhalla. My god, it is a blast to play. A SSB-esque platform fighter, it's unique in how it handles itself. For starters, each character has a unique set of weapon types. Meaning one can work with Axe/Guantlets, and another with Guns/Sword. It gives the roster a nice mix up and lots of options on what you're comfortable with. Secondly, it's very friendly towards casual and competitive fans with its game modes and surprisingly balanced, which is something I'm glad about since I'm more towards the former. And finally, it is a multiplatform game. Whole crossplay functionality is still in the works, the fact you can get it for every major console+ PC is a huge plus for anyone who wants to grab the game without worrying about what system it works on.

Not a bad deal! While I never played it myself, it seems to be a very charming game, and the remake looks fantantasic! The art direction of the game certainly does astound me, my favorite one being the redesigns of the elder dragons. While in the original they looked like near identical copies of each other, the RIT gives them a lot of character and flair with their designs.  ^-^

As for Brawlhalla, I was told about the game earlier this year. I wanted to get into it, but didn't have any console or a good PC. It wasn't until they announced Rayman as a fighter and I finally got my uncle's old PS4 that I knew I had to get this game. Probably one of the best F2P games I've got. It does have some microtransactions, but it's mostly justified since 1. It's all mostly cosmetic; and 2. The developer is pretty small and using the money on things that help improve the game and help get the updates out so quick (apparently every 2 or so weeks they update the game). Honestly with the latter, it's the first time I've seen a lot of people not having too much of an issue with it and are pretty okay with the fact that they game has them.

Now that I'm looking at this, I just realized how much of a good year it has been for me in regards for video games. I haven't felt this excited of playing them in years! I've been trying to find and try some games that have recently caught my eye, and honestly it feels great!

Lots of big name games revealed at the Games Awards.

Far Cry: New Dawn
Far Cry New Dawn is the next major entry in the franchise. Set in the aftermath of nuclear warfare, Far Cry New Dawn is set in Hope County, the setting of Far Cry 5. Based on the trailer, it looks very much like a Far Cry game. Far Cry New Dawn launches on February 15 on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

‘CRASH TEAM RACING NITRO-FUELED’
As expected, Activision revealed a remastered version of CTR: Crash Team Racing. Subtitled Nitro Fueled, the remastered version will include all of the original content, as well as online multiplayer. Crash Team Racing is currently only expected to launch on PS4.

‘THE OUTER WORLDS’
A brand new game from Obsidian, The Outer Worlds has a Fallout/Borderlands-feel to it. The Outer Worlds is a first-person, single-player shooter set on a distant planet in the future. Based on the trailer, we can tell it’s an open world game that doesn’t take itself too seriously. The Outer Worlds launches in 2019.  For sure Bethesda won't be happy about someone treading on their territory... This is after all from the original creators of Fallout and the developers of Fallout: New Vegas.

‘THE LAST CAMPFIRE’
From Hello Games, the studio behind No Man’s Sky, The Last Campfire stars a bunch of adorable little creatures doing … well, we’re not quite sure what. They mainly just walk around. But gosh darn is it adorable.

And many many more.  Game list (https://www.dualshockers.com/the-game-awards-2018-new-games/)

They make truly amazing games.
My favorites are the Shantae series and Mighty Switch Force.

Best girl: Rottytops.

Well, Mario is just Nintendo's golden boy... I don't think it's that weird.
However, Wayforward is just a small-ish indie developer. So the chances for a full Shantae cartoon are very slim... :/

See, I don't care which studio a game comes from.  I buy games that interest me or game series I enjoy.  It is unfortunate when a studio or developer loses their way and starts to ruin their games people love.

Bethesda is the latest example of a studio struggling, but a lot of them are not the games they are making... sure Fallout 76 was one they made, but Wolfenstein Youngblood was done by a different studio under the Bethesda name. Bethesda is the publisher in this case while Arkane Studios and MachineGames actually created it.
Title: Re: Video Games
Post by: Miggs on 2019-08-06 23:15:49
Yeah, I'm more or less the same. I don't really care who made the game. If it's a good game, it's a good game. If it's from a developer/publisher that consistently puts out good titles, more power to them, and hey, I kind of end up giving a crap if that's the case.

Youngblood wasn't that great but made by Arkane Studios? Oh shit, that's kind of a shocker, honestly. They're the studio that made the Dishonored games and Prey (Which I've recently gotten into. Real good.)

See? Like, I give a shit about Arkane because I loved the Dishonored games and Prey, so it comes as a surprise knowing that a WOLFENSTEIN game of all things isn't that great by them.

It is popular to hate on Bethesda right now.  Whether deserved or not.

But the real fault lies in Arkane Studios for this recent release.  But you know what?  Who cares?! Just like the movie industry, there are boons and busts.  Stuff happens.  Any studio can bounce back after a poor performance.

It's when they start to string together several mediocre to bad outings do you need to get worried.
Title: Re: Video Games
Post by: Miggs on 2019-08-09 11:37:41
Well said, Rainy!

Although I personally disagree with the "popular to hate on Bethesda", mostly because I personally believe that a lot of what they've been doing has been pretty weird. And honestly the fact that they keep using the same shitty engine for their games (games directly from them) is something I very much don't agree with.

But yeah! I agree, shit happens, people have their busts. Like I ain't gon' hate on Arkane because of Wolfenstein, but it's still something to at least ask "What happened?"

Sony Acquires Insomniac Games as First-Party PlayStation Studio

Article (https://www.ign.com/articles/2019/08/19/sony-acquires-spider-man-ps4-developer-insomniac-games)

Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced it has acquired Insomniac Games, the developers behind Marvel's Spider-Man and Ratchet and Clank, as a first-party PlayStation studio.
Sony and Insomniac are in "definitive agreements" to acquire Insomniac, who have long held a partnership with PlayStation throughout the four generations of home PlayStation consoles, from Spyro the Dragon on the original PlayStation through to 2018's Spider-Man on PS4.

Insomniac will become the 14th studio in Sony's current lineup of Worldwide Studios development studios.

"Insomniac Games is one of the most highly-acclaimed development studios in the industry and their legacy of best-in class storytelling and gameplay is unparalleled," Shawn Layden, Chairman of SIE WWS, said in a statement alongside the announcement. "We have enjoyed a strong collaborative partnership with the studio for many years, and are thrilled to officially welcome them to the Worldwide Studios family. The addition of Insomniac Games to SIE WWS reiterates our commitment to developing world class gaming experiences that can only be found on the PlayStation platform."

Joining the WWS family gives Insomniac even greater opportunities to achieve our studio vision of making positive and lasting impressions on people's lives," Ted Price, Insomniac Games founder and CEO, said in an additional statement. "We've enjoyed a special relationship with PlayStation practically since our inception. Our partnership amplifies our potential, and Marvel's Spider-Man was a testament to this. We're excited to take the next step in our growth alongside our longtime WWS partners. Most of all, we look forward to delivering fresh, new experiences for our fans."

We took a look at the state of Sony's first-party studios earlier this year, and we know that Sony has considered acquiring studios ahead of the PS5. Bringing Insomniac officially into the first-party fold cements a relationship that has produced a number of beloved PlayStation-exclusive franchises, from Spyro and Ratchet to Resistance and Spider-Man. For a time, Insomniac appeared to be exploring other partnerships, having produced the Xbox One exclusive Sunset Overdrive several years ago, but the return of Ratchet and Clank to PS4 and Spider-Man's acclaimed debut last year resolidified the relationship between Sony and Insomniac.

No game announcements were made alongside the acquisition announcement, but given that Spider-Man on PS4 has sold over 13.2 million copies worldwide as of July 28, 2019, it's clear Sony and Insomniac have made a great pair, and will continue to do so as PlayStation enters the next generation of consoles.

Speaking of the next generation, Sony has recently discussed Sony is considering cross-gen play thanks to the PS4 backward compatibility. Spider-Man has also played a big role in what we've seen of the PS5 so far, as Sony's demo of the PS5's impressive load times involved a comparison between Marvel's Spider-Man running on PS4 and PS5. And even though many are looking ahead to what the PS5 may bring, Sony is still planning to bring several major exclusives to the.

Gamescom 2019 Begins

Article (https://www.gamespot.com/articles/gamescom-2019-conferences-schedule-and-news-from-g/1100-6468538/)

Gamescom 2019 has begun in earnest, with a series of press conferences taking place throughout Monday. These brought a ton of news about newly revealed and other upcoming games, both big and small. Nintendo started things out with a showcase of Switch indie games, followed by an Inside Xbox stream, the next Google Stadia Connect.

We even got the surprise releases of several games across PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC, with a Call of Duty: Modern Warfare alpha test to come soon for free on PS4. Meanwhile, there have been numerous Gamescom game trailers making their debut.

Some of the biggest news from this week didn't come specifically from any of the official events. Maybe the most notable example is that we learned Sony bought Insomniac, the maker of Marvel's Spider-Man.

SONY'S PLAYSTATION 4 MOVES TO SECOND BEST SELLING CONSOLE

Sony’s latest published sales figures for the console reveal it shifted another 2.8 million units over the July-September quarter, moving it onto 102.8m total sales. That’s enough for it to overtake Nintendo’s Wii on 101.6m and its own great-grandfather, the original PlayStation, which sold 102.6m consoles across its lifetime.

Back in the summer, the PS4 became the fastest console to sell 100 million units.

Sony has already announced that its successor will be here at the end of the next calendar year and, though there’s still at least 12 months until that happens, a lot of players will be keeping their money trousered to save up for what’s likely to be a pretty expensive 2020. The PS5’s backwards compatibility and cross-generational play make it an easier decision too.

It’s unlikely then that the PS4 will, despite its record-setting ability to fly off the shelves, take the top spot in the charts. Helped by considerable longevity, the PS2 sold 155m consoles across its life, and that’s a figure that any other home console will struggle to get near. However, the PS4 should bow out at nigh-on 120m and firmly establish itself in second — with Sony consoles holding all of the top three spots.

As for PlayStation 5, it has a hard act to follow, but the credentials seem pretty compelling…

TOP THREE BEST SELLING CONSOLES

1. Playstation 2
2. Playstation 4
3. Playstation

Time for something different.  The comic series BLACKSAD has been made into a computer/video game and it released today on the PS4 and PC.  Here is the trailer.  Take anthromorphic animals and mix it with some soul, jazzy, noir.  You got an interesting mix here.

Here is a making of video.  It gets you an idea of the comic book series and how it was transferred to the small screen.  It looks interesting.

And now the reviews for Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order are coming in.  Will this EA Star Wars game finally be good or another disaster?  Check out some reviews from all over below.

It is a surprisingly good game by Respawn Entertainment. EA simply funded them and let them have the time to make a game with NO microtransactions! Shocking!

Anyone considering getting pokemon Sword/Shield?

Nope.  Not a Pokemon person or a Nintendo player.  I would recommend you got check in the Nintendo Topic (https://psfforum.com/index.php?topic=550.0) or Pokemon Topic (https://psfforum.com/index.php?topic=144.0).  There is a small group of Nintendo players there.

A new poll by IGN asks everyone which console deals they are most interested in/likely to buy this Christmas season.

Playstation Deal - 45%

Xbox Deal - 16%

Nintendo Deal - 8%

Not Planning To Buy/Other - 31%

PS4 as we know is easily outselling the others in this generation in total numbers and a higher rate.  This is a good gauge to see what people are interested in.

^ No surprise there really.  Microsoft stopped revealing their monthly sales numbers because.... and we know.... they are not keeping up with Sony even in the slightest.  But credit to Microsoft with their subscription service which is fairly cheap for unlimited games.  Sony has one too, but is further improved upon with it's first party games.... something Microsoft has failed at this generation.

Nintendo isn't even in the same league so irrelevant to this.

This is Sonic Robo Blast 2 v2.2.

This Sonic fan game has been around since 1998. Despite the age, the developers are still working to this game even to this day. Yeah, you heard me right.
It's not like this game is incomplete, it's just that the developers seems to have fun adding new features and tweaking the game.

This game also has a small but super passionate fan base. Since the engine is super easy to program with, the fans of this game created A LOT of mods.
Oh right, forgot to tell you that this fan game has been created using the Doom engine... Yeah, Doom!
Between characters mod and new maps, this game has a lot of user-created content to offer. The most popular one is the Sonic Robo Blast 2: Kart... Basically a Sonic themed Mario Kart game.

A week ago, they released a new update for the game: version 2.2.
This is a huge update that added a lot of new content and overall improvements to the base game. Stuff like new high quality sprites, improved textures and graphics, new and/or extremely tweaked levels, new playable characters, new original music... and slopes!

If you're interested in a rock solid 3D Sonic game (even if it was made with the Doom engine, so it's technically not 3D) with calssic era games aesthetics and vibes with a lot of content and multiplayer functionalities, you might want to check this out!
If you're not interested, well... I suggest you to try it anyway! It's a really good game and it's a freeware, mate! You can play it for free!!

Can I say something that has been in my mind for a very long time?  Okay... here goes.  I don't think Cyberpunk 2077 will be that good of a game.  I think it is being overhyped and will not live up to the hype.  I am thinking it won't get great reviews and the world will be much more dull and forgettable than people are thinking. A lot of it will seem samey.

I don't think it will be critically acclaimed like the Witcher III and it just won't be that great.  People will get tired of a depressing looking urban world tat they can't escape from.  The game will be somewhat clunky and heavy to move around in and do things.

I am just stating what I think will happen.  Because if all this comes true and I never had said so earlier, no one would believe me.

Thats all.

This is pretty dated since no one here seems to play Xbox.  But they recently had a trailer for Halo Infinite and the majority of people seemed disappointed in the graphics.  The company making the new Halo felt they had to apologize and say they are working on it... Xbox fans had a blow to their egos.

Marvel’s Avengers’ Spider-Man Is a PlayStation-exclusive Character

Article (https://www.siliconera.com/marvels-avengers-spider-man-is-a-playstation-exclusive-character/)

It turns out some heroes won’t show up everywhere. The Marvel’s Avengers Spider-Man character will only show up on PlayStation platforms. The PlayStation Blog confirmed the free post-launch character will be added to the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 in 2021.

This is the second instance of PlayStation-related preferential treatment regarding Marvel’s Avengers. The beta is also happening earlier on the PlayStation 4. People who pre-ordered it for that console can start playing on August 7, 2020, while the general PlayStation 4 open beta will begin on August 14, 2020.

A few details about Spider-Man’s debut where shared. He will be a fully-fledged character who will have his own moveset, skill tree, and costumes. He’ll also be introduced alongside an event. As for suits, the PlayStation Blog update from Crystal Dynamics Associate Art Director Jeff Adams noted that the outfits for Spider-Man will be based on designs from comic artists like Steve Ditko and John Romita Sr.

Marvel’s Avengers Spider-Man is the second post-launch character to be revealed. At the end of July 2020, Crystal Dynamics and Square Enix confirmed that Hawkeye would be added to the game sometime after it launched. While there are no screenshots or video of Spider-Man yet, Hawkeye had a teaser and a picture of him in an alternate costume.

Marvel’s Avengers will come to the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and Google Stadia on September 4, 2020. It will show up on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X later this holiday season.

Sega CEO Talks About the Possibilities of a New Sega Console and Content Creation Moving Forward

Article (https://www.siliconera.com/sega-ceo-talks-about-the-possibilities-of-a-new-sega-console-and-content-creation-moving-forward/)

Sega turned 60 today, and we got a special interview over at the official website with President and CEO Haruki Satomi, who briefly talked about the possibilities of a new console, what to expect moving forward, and more. The interviewer is none other than Sega Shiro, the company’s 60th anniversary ambassador.

Straight to the point, the possibilities of a ‘new Sega console

Sega Shiro, Sega 60th Anniversary Ambassador: “We fans are ready for the surprises!! That said, can I ask something??”

Haruki Satomi, Sega President and CEO: “What is it??”

Sega Shiro: “I’ll get straight to the point, but is there a possibility for the ‘birth of a new Sega console’…?”

Haruki Satomi: “Actually, to commemorate the 60th anniversary of Sega’s establishment…”

Sega Shiro: “Gulp”

Haruki Satomi: “… Or so I wish I could surprise you guys in such a way, but unfortunately, that’s not happening.”

Sega Shiro: “Th-that can’t be… Fatheeeerrrrr!!!”

Haruki Satomi: “Back in March, when we first revealed the silhouette of Sega Shiro, we heard a lot of fans ask ‘Is it a Sega Saturn revival?’. Again, I’m nothing but grateful to have such expectations of Sega. I want to see us continue making content that shows that we’re not going to betray such expectations.”

New Sega content moving forward

Sega Shiro: “So what kind of content will Sega make moving forward?”

Haruki Satomi: “Firstly, what’s important is to not lose the likeness of Sega. Originally, it wasn’t about imitation, but a company full of people that wanted to surprise the world.”

Sega Shiro: “I totally understand that.”

Haruki Satomi: “However, I believe there’s been a big problem in recent years that we haven’t been offering the kind of content that surprises people around the world. With the change in era, it is becoming more difficult to differentiate between technology, as we’ve seen in the past.”

Sega Shiro: “There isn’t anything I can say to that…”

Haruki Satomi: “We decided to go with ‘GO SEGA’ for the 60th anniversary concept. With this opportunity, we plan to demonstrate the challenging spirit that’s always been there with Sega to bring the surprising kind of content that says ‘Sega is here’.”

Sega Shiro: “I’d really, really like that!”

Haruki Satomi: “For example, do you know about 5G?”

Sega Shiro: “5G!? Is that a new Sega console!?”

Haruki Satomi: “It’s about telecommunications [laughs]. With the appearance of 5G, users no longer have to worry about download times. We’re approaching an era in which you can seamlessly experience content without having to choose a device or location. This is one of the challenges.”

Sega Shiro: “So there’s an opportunity with 5G…?”

Haruki Satomi: “If you look in the past, you’ll see big innovations in the entertainment content industry when there was changes in telecommunications standards. For example, the 2G era had i-mode, the 3G era had social games and the App Store, the 4G era had F2P app games and video contents and such.

Sega Shiro: “That’s right!”

Haruki Satomi: “In addition to predicting the always-changing usage scene, we will create content that introduces new experiences. I truly believe that we’re living in a time when we must question the true value behind the saying ‘creation is life’.”

Sega Shiro: “Can I ask another thing about content creation?”

Haruki Satomi: “Sure, ask away.”

Sega Shiro: “As a group, Sega works on not only video games but toys, movies, and a variety of entertainment content… or so I’ve heard from my father. What is it that keeps pushing Sega to continue creating entertainment regardless of genres?”

Haruki Satomi: “Do you know the mission of the Sega Group, Sega Shiro-kun?”

Sega Shiro: “To continue creating deeply moving experiences!”

Haruki Satomi: “That is correct. While it may differ across businesses, regions, and genres, the goal of warming people’s hearts through entertainment content is all the same. We can create new experiences by putting together each of their strengths. I believe that the broadness of business is one of Sega’s strengths.”

Sega Shiro: “So, ‘broadness of business equals strength’… noted!”

A new SEGA console possibly?  What's the point?  Bring over some old games from the glory days and a lot of bad Sonic content?  To be mainstream, they would just offer the same games as everyone else.  Seems like a waste of money.   Unless they decided to make a ton of console only Sega content, but that seems like lost money as well.

The stage is set for the most complicated and underwhelming new generation of video game consoles.  Both companies seem to not be sure why they even made new consoles considering how little changed.  But here you go.  Playstation 5 vs. the Xbox Series X/S.  Microsoft says you don't really need an Xbox because their PC's are just as good or better, but you need Xbox Game Pass.  Sony says the PS5 is the only place for exclusives games that only they have.

From the world of Harry Potter, we get the reveal of something that people have long wanted.  An open world Harry Potter game.

Introduced to the world via the PS4, HOGWART'S LEGACY.

This was immediately propelled to the top of the "most wanted" list and we will get more info in the coming months.  And isn't it great that it is a SINGLE PLAYER RPG and not a multiplayer online game.  Thank God.  It comes 2021 on PS4 and PC.

"Hogwarts Legacy is an immersive, open-world action RPG set in the world first introduced in the Harry Potter books. Now you can take control of the action and be at the center of your own adventure in the wizarding world. Embark on a journey through familiar and new locations as you explore and discover fantastic beasts, customize your character and craft potions, master spell casting, upgrade talents, and become the wizard you want to be.

Experience Hogwarts in the 1800s. Your character is a student who holds the key to an ancient secret that threatens to tear the wizarding world apart. You have received a late acceptance to the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and soon discover that you are no ordinary student: you possess an unusual ability to perceive and master Ancient Magic. Only you can decide if you will protect this secret for the good of all, or yield to the temptation of more sinister magic.

Discover the feeling of living at Hogwarts as you make allies, battle Dark wizards, and ultimately decide the fate of the wizarding world. Your legacy is what you make of it."

This is pretty big news.

Microsoft buys Bethesda, maker of hit The Elder Scrolls and Fallout games, in $7.5 billion deal

Article (https://komonews.com/news/local/microsoft-will-buy-video-game-maker-zenimax-for-75-billion)

REDMOND, Wash. — Microsoft is buying the company behind popular video games The Elder Scrolls, Doom and Fallout.

The software giant said Monday that it is paying $7.5 billion for ZeniMax Media, the parent company of video game publisher Bethesda Softworks.

Microsoft said it is buying Bethesda in part to beef up its Xbox Game Pass game subscription service, which it says has over 15 million subscribers.

Bethesda games, such as Starfield, which is currently in development, will launch on Xbox Game Pass the same day they launch on Xbox or computers, Microsoft said.

Microsoft has new consoles debuting on Nov. 10, the Xbox Series X and stripped down Series S version. It will be competing against Sony's new PlayStation 5 console.

R.W. Baird analyst Colin Sebastian said the deal is part of a wider industry trend of consolidation. Microsoft already owns studios that make popular games including Minecraft and the Halo franchise.

“We believe the deal checks a lot of boxes for Microsoft, such as strengthening the Xbox/Games division product portfolio as competition increases, boosting the profile of Xbox subscription services, and providing more content for the company’s cloud gaming initiatives," he wrote in an investor note.

Microsoft Corp., which is based in Redmond, Washington, expects the deal to close in the second half of fiscal 2021.

Holy cow.  Microsoft is making some big powerplays here.  Not for the short term, but the long term investment and a long term win.  They are buying big developers.  Don't forget they got Mojang recently too.

This will allow Microsoft to possibly make 'The Elder Scrolls,' 'Doom,' and 'Fallout' games be Microsoft/Xbox exclusives.    This would be earth shattering for Sony.  Not right away, but in the long term.  This would be HUGE.  Microsoft is smart here morphing their Xbox and PC experience into one.  It allows them to streamline.  They are making their games as accessible as possible, even having monthly payments to get a system at a very low price.  Very low priced Game Pass and tons of backwards compatibility.  Microsoft is setting up for a death blow to everyone else it looks like.  We'll see how this plays out in a few years.

So Marvel's Avengers is already collapsing and losing it's fanbase, lol.  That was extremely quick.

Well it got middling to poor reviews.  It was ab ig let down to most.  Very basic fighting, repetitive levels and fighting, decent story, and a strange role play aspect in the game.  It's also forced to be online and there has been nothing but issues online with people waiting at times hours to get online with this game.  It didn't do well and sold poorly.  Microtransactions ALL over the place and highly glitchy.  It was a quick cash grab.  So I am glad it is doing bad. Hopefully the comic will learn their lesson.

It really just seems like a mobile game...

'Cyberpunk 2077' Delayed a Third Time After an 'Under-Calculation'

Article (https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/technology/cyberpunk-2077-delayed-a-third-time-after-an-under-calculation/ar-BB1arRin?ocid=uxbndlbing)

Cyberpunk 2077, one of the most anticipated titles of 2020, has been delayed once again. Now the game's set to arrive on December 10, three weeks after its previously scheduled drop date.

CD Projekt Red, the studio behind The Witcher III, announced the new release date on its social media accounts on Tuesday. Adam Badowski and Marcin Iwinski, the board of directors at the Polish developer and publisher, wrote a lengthy note to the game's fans explaining why they had to push back the release for a third time.

Here's the statement in full:

"Today, we've decided to move the release date of Cyberpunk 2077 by 21 days. Most likely, there are many emotions and questions in your heads, so first and foremost, please accept our humble apologies.

The biggest challenge for us right now is shipping the game on current-gen, next-gen and PC at the same time, which requires us to prepare and test 9 versions of it while working from home. Since Cyberpunk 2077 evolved towards almost being a next-gen title somewhere along the way, we need to make sure everything works well and every version runs smoothly. We're aware it might seem unrealistic when someone says that 21 days can make any difference in such a massive and complex game, but they really do.

Some of you might also be wondering what these words mean in light of us saying we achieved gold master some time ago. Passing certification, or 'going gold,' means the game is ready, can be completed, and has all content in it. But it doesn't mean we stop working on it and raising the quality bar. On the contrary, this is the time where many improvements are being made which will then be distributed via a Day 0 patch. This is the time period we under calculated.

We feel we have an amazing game on our hands and are willing to make every decision, even the hardest ones, if it ultimately leads to you getting a video game you'll fall in in love with."

As mentioned above, this is the third time that CD Projekt Red has announced a delay of Cyberpunk 2077. The game was originally announced at E3 2019 with an initial April 2020 release date window, before being pushed back to September 2020, and then again to November 19.

Apparently people like micro transactions enough so so that this happened.

Activision Blizzard Made $1.2 Billion From Microtransactions In Just Three Months
Call of Duty microtransaction sales are four times higher this year compared to last year.
Article (https://www.gamespot.com/articles/activision-blizzard-made-12-billion-from-microtransactions-in-just-three-months/1100-6483985/#:~:text=For%20the%20three-month%20period%2C%20Activision%20Blizzard%20made%20%241.2,Microtransactions%20are%20very%20big%20business%20for%20Activision%20Blizzard.)

You always hear people say to support a company via your wallet if you like their practices and what they do... and apparently most people like micro transactions enough to give this company a billion dollars in roughly 90 days...  Is it just kids doing this?

Activision Blizzard has reported new financial numbers for the July-September period, and it was a gigantic quarter for the gaming publisher. One section of the company's business that did particularly well was microtransactions. For the three-month period, Activision Blizzard made $1.2 billion from microtransactions, which are called "in-game net bookings." This is a dramatic 69 percent improvement over the same period last year, when Activision Blizzard made $709 million from in-game net bookings.

Microtransactions are very big business for Activision Blizzard. For the latest reporting period, Activision Blizzard made $1.95 billion in revenue from all of its business combined, so the $1.2 billion figure from microtransactions represents more than half of the company's total revenue.

ctivision's Call of Duty franchise was a bright spot for microtransactions. Microtransaction sales from Modern Warfare and the battle royale game Warzone were four times higher than the same period last year. Growth was always expected, with far more players jumping into Call of Duty than usual this year

Additionally, Activision reported that Modern Warfare's first-year sales are the highest in Call of Duty history, and two-thirds of sales came digitally.

Activision Blizzard also owns King, the makers of Candy Crush. Microtransaction revenue from King's games grew year-over-year, but a specific number was not divulged.

And since we are talking about Activision...

IGN gave it a 9/10.  They really enjoyed the game.

Now GameSpot has revealed a video that discusses the game.  They had mixed reviews clearly.  The female reviewer didn't like the game while the male reviewer seemed to think it was okay with some greatness.  Both were not sure what the story was really even about, both seemed overwhelmed at the level of content, the amount of bugs, etc.  They did comparisons on the bugs to Bethesda games and the story towards the Witcher III, which they both thought Witcher III was better.  But the male reviewer did praise the writing.  He also said there was so much hype to the game, that maybe expectations were higher than what could realistically be achieved.  Check out the mixed review below.  7/10 score from GameSpot.

Gamespot's review is drawing tons of criticism, mainly from the female reviewer Kallie Plagge.  Video games community is responding to her.

Undiscovered gem of a game being released just before Cyberpunk 2077?  Yes.  Very positive reviews for Immortals Fenyx Rising.  On Playstation, Xbox, and PC.  Most are saying it is the best open world game Ubisoft has made this year, better than their top tier games such as Assassins Creed Valhalla.  Great combot feel too and nice visual flare, with humorous dialogue.

Digital Foundry has a good video on the new Cyberpunk game on base consoles.  The Xbox One is freezing and not loading textures.  It has by far the worst performing machine.  Base PS4 at least gets about 30fps.  The Xbox One was dropping to 10fps.  Ooof.  Even the next gen consoles are struggling.  The way to play it is on a beast PC rig... but that costs way too much money.  The Xbox One X struggles and the PS4 Pro has the most stable performance.

After being heavily defended by players who hadn't played the game yet, Cyberpunk 2077 is being absolutely trashed by nearly everyone except game review magazines.  It is now popular to trash the game.  It has no AI for police car chases (at least not well), and the physics are being torn apart.  People are saying the game lacks physics.  It is being compared constantly to GTA V and how that 2013 year game makes Cyberpunk 2077 look old and dated.  People are comparing it to the original Watch Dogs, which beats Cyberpunk in many regards.  People say the AI citizens are lifeless and don't react.  Not to mention all the graphical issues and unless you have the most expensive rig in the world, this game does not look or run good.

Is it mostly due to overhyping among fans?  Part of that yes, part of it no.  Sadly, almost instantly, CD Projekt Red has gone from one of the most beloved companies, to the most hated. :-\

It looks like Rockstar remains the king at living open worlds.

Many of you will know the significance of this.

The long mysterious and mythical "Golden Eye" Remastered.  It is was real and a mysterious figure has leaked it.  It's blowing up online now.  Good time for some company to capitalize on this.

For Your Eyes Only.
Footage of the cancelled GoldenEye XBLA remake/remaster/port from 2007, full game on 00 Agent, 4k 60FPS and thirty minutes of multiplayer games. Played on Xenia emulator to achieve a higher resolution. If you want more info on why it was cancelled, I recommend taking a look at these two interviews.

Interview about GE XBLA cancellation: https://www.mi6-hq.com/news/index.php...
And information about the guidelines and rules MGM/EON applied to the franchise after GoldenEye 64's success: https://web.archive.org/web/201906140...

As you can see, even if they shorted out the issues with Mr. Yamauchi at Nintendo, they'd have to censor the game heavily for it to adapt to their view and see a potential release. All these changes is exactly what GoldenEye 2010 and Reloaded is. Rare tried to push it again in 2014 for the 2015 release of Rare Replay and hit the same roadblock, even after nobody had the gaming rights.

PS5 vs Xbox Series X Sales – Sony Looks To Have Taken An Early Lead Over Microsoft

Article (https://www.psu.com/news/ps5-vs-xbox-series-x-sales-sony-looks-to-have-taken-an-early-lead-over-microsoft/)

Industry analyst Daniel Ahmad has indicated that PS5 has gained an early lead over the Xbox Series X in terms of sales, suggesting Microsoft’s console is just over one million units behind the Sony system.

Yesterday, Sony announced that it had shipped 4.5 million PS5s in 2020, which is the first official figures we’ve seen since the console’s November 2020 launch. Microsoft has’t said anything yet other than the Xbox Series X was the biggest Xbox launch in history.

However, posting on Twitter, Ahmad responded to Ryan McCaffrey’s pondering on how well the Xbox Series X has performed so far compared to PS5. From the look of things, Microsoft’s machine is just over one million units short of its lead competitor.

The PS5 and Xbox Series X both launched within one week of each other in November 2020, although stock has been in limited supply after the initial launch batch sold out.

Xbox Supply Shortages will Continue into 2021

Article (https://www.thexboxhub.com/xbox-supply-shortages-will-continue/)

The problem that has dogged the release of the Xbox Series X and Series S shows little sign of abating. Ever since the November 2020 release, demand has far outstripped supply – with pre-orders the first batch sold out within a few hours. And the situation remains unchanged a few months down the line.

Consumers are finding that every restock is gone within the day, leaving many eager gamers empty-handed and frustrated.

EA to buy racing game developer Codemasters for $1.2 billion, outbidding Take-Two

Electronic Arts reached an agreement on Monday to buy U.K. racing game developer Codemasters in a deal worth $1.2 billion.

The deal upstaged a previous transaction agreed between rival publisher Take-Two Interactive and Codemasters. The firm had agreed to acquire Codemasters for £726 million ($971 million) only last month.

“The Codemasters Board has considered various aspects of the EA Offer and considers the EA Offer to represent a superior offer for Codemasters’ shareholders as compared with the Take-Two Offer,” the British firm said in a release.

EA said Codemasters’ shareholders would receive £6.04 in cash for each ordinary share of Codemasters. The deal is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2021, EA added.

The acquisition of Codemasters marks the biggest deal in EA’s history, and comes amid increasing consolidation in the video game industry as the coronavirus pandemic has accelerated demand for gaming.

It's Official, EA Has Bought Codemasters.  Codemasters to Remain as 'Independent Group' After EA Acquisition

Article (https://www.ign.com/articles/codemasters-to-remain-as-independent-group-after-ea-acquisition) Feb 18, 2021

EA has formally completed its $1.2 billion acquisition of Codemasters, and has confirmed to IGN that it will be treating the company's studios as an 'independent group', making their own games. EA did however signal an interest in perhaps bringing the Formula 1 license back under its own EA Sports brand.
In a press release, EA explained that Codemasters' franchises such as Formula 1, Dirt, and Project CARS will sit alongside EA's existing racing games. Speaking to IGN, EA executive vice president of strategic growth Matt Bilbey explained that Codemasters' studios (including Slightly Mad, which it purchased in 2019) would remain somewhat autonomous after the purchase.

"We will be treating the Codemasters’ studios as an independent group for the foreseeable future, giving them all the support they need to deliver their much-loved games and exploring all opportunities for growth as we go," Bilbey explained. "We’re incredibly excited about what the future holds for them and while they will remain independent, we will be there to pour fuel on their growth capabilities through the power of EA’s distribution."

Bilbey explained the motivation for the purchase by saying that EA sees further room for growth in racing games, with the acquisition allowing EA "to deliver racing experiences to fans on a more regular basis". Formula 1 seems to be of particular interest, with Bilbey describing it as, "one of the few true global sports, with strong fan growth in North America, Asia and continued growth in Europe."

Speaking of Formula 1, IGN also asked whether there were plans to bring the license (which Codemasters has held since 2009) under the EA Sports banner. EA Sports last held the F1 license in 2000-2003. Bilbey didn't commit to that move, but did signal some interest:

"We are very proud of the values and reach that the EA Sports brand brings," replied Bilbey. "Codemasters have very similar values and a proven track record of quality. We do believe that the opportunity to partner Formula 1 with the Codemasters brand and EA Sports is a compelling proposition to reach even more racing fans globally."

EA does have something of a chequered history with racing game-focused studios in recent years, with EA Black Box shuttered and two Ghost Games studios closed in the last decade. We asked Bilbey what message the company had for those cynical of the move:

"We are huge fans of the racing genre and I know that many of your readers are too," explained Bilbey, "which is why I’m sure they’ll understand just why we’ve admired Codemasters for so long. Our intent is to build on the success that Codemasters have generated, ensuring we help create a bright, brilliant and exciting future for racing fans, that’s populated by amazing games delivered into the hands of more players than ever before.

"Codemasters joins one of the strongest creative collectives in the industry alongside DICE, Respawn, Bioware, Criterion EA Sports and many others, and the shared knowledge and expertise of this group paves the way for significant innovation for all. We are looking forward to providing Codemasters with every level of support to drive success together, and know there is a strong future ahead of us."

I really hope EA keeps their hands off and doesn't start shuffling people around.  We've seen too many great racing game companies be bought by EA to make a few games, then after a few years, but shut down.

This came out of nowhere but it excites me for some reason.  Probably the nostalgia.

So take SUPER SMASH BROS... but with classic and new Nickelodeon characters!  YEAH!  And it's made by a GOOD video game studio!  Nickelodeon shocked us all with this new game. Lets see how it turns out.

And fans look angry.  It is overwhelming negative votes.  Positive votes was 28k, but has dropped to 18k due to YT I guess removing bots to help the devs.  Fans are angry and downvoting this like no tomorrow.

To quote someone in the comments....

The original Saints Row characters would have eaten these new characters and spit out their bones...

These new characters just look like annoying Fortnite style characters.  I hate that NEON aesthetic so many games do now days.  Even Far Cry New Dawn did it too.  It's not good.

3. It was a Nintendo clone shaped like Sega ;D, and those three buttons worked as A, Turbo B and Turbo A, so it was not easy to play games which required pushing a normal B button (like Chip and Dale 2, when you just can’t beat the second boss with this controller). So, the console was quickly changed to normal one, with not-so-ergonomic, but functional gamepad ;D.

Hmm...2, 4, and 7, but it was mainly 7. I have memories of playing on my uncle's SNES and memories of playing on another family members NES. The original PlayStation was my first official console as a kid. N64, I disliked that controller. PlayStation controllers are superior controllers, change my mind.

PlayStation 5 Sells Another 3.3 Million Units, Still Matching PlayStation 4 Sales, Still Destroying Xbox Sales

Sony’s has released its latest set of quarterly financial results, revealing that the PlayStation 5 is still matching the PlayStation 4 in total unit sales.

The news comes despite ongoing shortages of silicon semiconductor wafers required to make the complex chips found inside the console, as well as Microsoft’s Xbox, smartphones, and in the systems necessary for advanced autonomous driving.

From launch in November 2020 through to the end of Q2 2021 in September 2021, Sony has now sold through some 13.4 million consoles. The latest results, running from July to September 2021 account for 3.3 million of that total number.

That means that the PS5 is roughly matching the PS4 in raw sales figures. In its first four quarters on sale, the PS4 recorded 13.5m sales — within a rounding error of the PS5’s 13.4m — with the PS5 matching its predecessor 1:1 in the first and fourth quarters, and beating it in its second quarter.

However the PS5’s results might be even better than they first appear. While Sony recorded “sell-in” (sales to retailers) figures for the PlayStation 4, the PS5’s numbers are “sell-through” (sales to end consumers). That could mean that more consoles have found homes this time round than in 2013/14.

The PlayStation 4 went on to reach 100m sales in the quickest time ever for a home console, and now sits at 115.4m units sold. For the PlayStation 5 to be even close to matching that while experiencing supply issues is pretty impressive.

September 2021 is the 11th month the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S have been available for. In the latest month, the gap continued to grow in favor of the PlayStation 5 when compared to the aligned launch of the Xbox Series X|S, both combined.  Meanwhile Nintendo's Switch console continues to decline in sales month in and month out.

Sony to buy video game maker Bungie in $3.6 billion
Article (https://www.cnbc.com/2022/01/31/sony-to-buy-video-game-maker-bungie-in-3point6-billion-deal.html)

Not many expected to see the original makers of Halo be bought out by Sony.  It appears Sony says they want them to remain independent in their purchase, but use their popular brands in future games, shows, movies, etc.  Sony also says they plan to allow them to sell games on all consoles still.  Not limited to Playstation.

Sony Interactive Entertainment has agreed to acquire privately held video game developer Bungie for $3.6 billion, adding to a flurry of industry consolidation this month.

Bungie is the company behind the multiplayer shooter games Destiny and Halo, the latter of which it developed until 2010. Bungie was acquired by Microsoft in 2000 and split from that company in 2007.

The Saints Row reboot has been mediocre to a fail according to nearly every single reviewer.

It's too bad, I wanted Saints Row to be good, but people say the main cast is pretty insufferable and the game feels outdated.  Still might be a fun sandbox though.  Maybe in a few months with patches and updates, it could be better.

Microsoft's Trying To Buy Activision Blizzard deal gets global scrutiny

Article (https://www.msn.com/en-us/entertainment/gaming/microsofts-activision-blizzard-deal-gets-global-scrutiny/ar-AA11l1XF)

Microsoft’s plan to buy video game giant Activision Blizzard for $68.7 billion could have major effects on the gaming industry, transforming the Xbox maker into something like a Netflix for video games by giving it control of many more popular titles. But to get to the next level, Microsoft must first survive a barrage of government inquiries from New Zealand to Brazil, and from U.S. regulators emboldened by President Joe Biden to strengthen their enforcement of antitrust laws...

Any of you watch the latest Nintendo Direct a few days ago? 'Cause I want to bring your attention to one of the games introduced, and I'm not talking about the brilliant long–awaited remake of Super Mario RPG...
I've heard this game described many times as Mario being on acid, and while they're not wrong, there's one thing we sneeze fetishists get from this...

An elephant power–up, and not just a costume like Cat Mario or Tanooki Mario. The user literally transforms into an anthro elephant! You can bet that artists are gonna go crazy, and it's only a matter of time before they start drawing the elephantine plumber's trunk being teased and tickled in some way... 8)

Though, if you're not interested in seeing some snoots, this game does give Mario a lot more personality than the New Super Mario Bros games, even having some Looney Tunes–like gags like Mario losing his hat when he enters a Warp Pipe. And of course, who can forget those talking flowers all throughout the trailer?

I actually listened to it a few days ago and it's really well done.  NeverKnowsBest always does a great job.  Just because it is a bad game, doesn't mean the people didn't try.  In this case, for the game Gollum, it cost many people their jobs. :( And it wasn't as bad as Youtuber's made it sound.  Sure it wasn't good, but because so many people jumped on this bandwagon without even playing the game, they never got to make up their own opinions on it.  They essentially destroyed an entire game company over this.

Uhhh, what?

Disney to invest $1.5 billion Epic Games

Epic Games said in a statement that the new partnership will be powered by the Unreal Engine, which has strong ties to western Washington.

The Walt Disney Co. announced Wednesday it will take a $1.5 billion stake in Epic Games, investing in its already growing partnership in film, TV and video games.

Disney and Epic Games have already collaborated on several projects, including Fortnite, The Mandalorian and park attractions. Fortnite seasons have included Marvel and Star Wars. Fortnite and Marvel's 2020 “Nexus War with Galactus" reportedly drew more than 15.3 million concurrent players.

“This marks Disney’s biggest entry ever into the world of games and offers significant opportunities for growth and expansion,” Disney CEO Bob Iger said in a statement.
Epic Games, headquartered in North Carolina, said in a statement that the new partnership will be powered by the Unreal Engine, which has strong ties to western Washington.
Epic Games first opened a studio in western Washington in 2012 to help develop Unreal Engine 4, a game engine developers have used to make some of the industry's most popular titles, including Fortnite.

The Unreal Engine isn't just used to create video games but has also been used in animation and production in film and TV.  Disney+'s The Mandalorian used the Unreal Engine to power "the volume," which is a stage surrounded by massive LED walls that display digital sets.
According to Disney, the Unreal Engine has also created more than 15 Disney Parks attractions like Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.

“Disney was one of the first companies to believe in the potential of bringing their worlds together with ours in Fortnite, and they use Unreal Engine across their portfolio,” said Epic Games CEO and Founder Tim Sweeney.

Epic Games' regional connection grew in 2021 after it acquired Kirkland-based software developer RAD Game Tools.

Epic Games laid off around 16% of its workforce in September, including 39 positions in Bellevue.

According to an Entertainment Software Association study, the video game industry had a $11.6 billion economic impact in Washington state in 2019, the second largest in the nation.
