I'm pretty sure I'm a bit late to this, I wanted to mention that, if not mistaken, if an image is too big in size on Imgur (in terms of resolution) , it shrinks the res.
Or at least, that's what I've heard.

So, do we specifically not want to host them locally, as a matter of content-nazi risk?

My natural reaction to any image organization task is "stick the blighters in a 'booru".  There's no reason (that I know of) we couldn't do that here, provided we had a regular backup regime.

I am sensing an anti "host it ourselves" and use a reliable "third party host we trust" thing going on.

I know Flickr is an excellent service, but aren't they for photographers?  Deviant Art can host our stuff, but I am pretty sure you have to upload one picture at a time.

You can buy an Imageshack unlimited hosting for about $40.00 a year.  They've been around forever.  They used to be free.

Oh damn.
Hm, so Photobucket appears to be temperamental. Well, at least it's working again.

I've actually always had issues with Photobucket.  Images never load for me.  It just shows a spinning wheel that constantly loads.  I can upload fine, but when I click to view the image, it never loads.

Oh wow. That's no good.
Yeah, I guess we could try Flickr. It's worth a shot.

Does anyone remember an artist named Strongestsneeze? He's been around for a long, long time. Still is online occasionally =)

I discovered with him that photobucket is NOT an ideal place to post artwork =( His images automatically were deleted after a 3 year period or something like that, even though he was active on that site. That may not always be the case, but deviantart has artwork from over 12 years ago that is still as clear and free to see as ever before. I think creating a deviantart group page would be an amazing idea because then ANYONE on deviantart could get a small taste of this site, even those who have never heard of us before or had access to the links or know anyone from the first forum. New members could come because of that deviantart group page! :D

I'm not entirely sure what Flickr is, but I agree that it is worth a shot =)

So, um, maybe I'm flogging a dead horse because we /don't/ want to host locally (is that the case?)...

...but you know what's designed expressly to host and organize a collection of images?

A booru: http://booru.psfforum.com/post

Got a thing for scarfs?  Bam: http://booru.psfforum.com/post?tags=scarf

Cut to the sweet SF chase?  Kapow: http://booru.psfforum.com/post?tags=sneeze

Now, this is 100% mock-up.  It's using a rickety Moebooru PHP port made by someone who was cutting his programming teeth at the time.  A for-realsies version would use Danbooru, or another one of the major FOSS boorus.  All such boorus, however, seem to be written in Ruby On Rails.  My understanding is that Lunarpages (PSF's host) supports Ruby On Rails at no additional cost, but you have to get them to turn it on through a support request, so I couldn't quickly stand up a test site.

Huh, so we could have a booru type site without having to pay extra, or???
I'm a bit confused.

And StrongestSneeze, StrongestSneeze... I feel like I've heard of him before

Won't that cost more?  How reliable is it?  Because eventually we will run out of space and have to pay for more.  Teach us your understandings.

What would I need to do?  How reliable is this and what would it cost us?  I know you said it might not cost more, but I am interested.

For everyone, I have a DeviantArt and Flickr ready to be updated.
