Title: Create Your Own TV Network!
Post by: Captain Ridiculous on 2016-04-28 08:03:42
Create your own TV Network!

I used to do this when I was a kid, and create my own tv channel with my favorite shows and cartoons.  I figured, what would I do today?  Would it be a mix of nostalgia and new?  All nostalgia?  What would I name my network, and how would it actually do?

Well to start out, how about you all create your tv network.  You can explain why you did what, but fill in all the time slots.  Simply copy and paste the time slots below and get to filling.  This will be basic, and if you show is only 15 minutes or longer then thirty minutes, show it correctly.  Name your network and have fun!

TV SCHEDULE (Copy and paste below and fill in your tv shows you would have on your network.  Pretend it is an average weekday, and think of which shows you like best and when to place them.  Least viewers will be after 11pm till about 5am.  Do not worry about your own tv news, you just do tv shows.  You will get some morning viewers, usually younger in this case, before school from 5am till 8am.  Daytime television lasts till about 2pm when people start getting home.  Primtime, which is the best viewing hours for the biggest audience is between 7pm till 11pm.)

You can call it anything you want, Numbers.  Doesn't have to have your name.

When I have some time, I will play along with this.

Gonna have to find a way to include all the stuff I like on this channels time slots.

Oh man, the long schedule will have to make me think things out a bit. XD I don't even know where to start, haha.

I think mine would probably be an amalgam of FOX Kids every morning, a Disney Afternoon block which airs around lunchtime, a Boomerang-style "Classics" line-up before day's end before ending in Adult Swim/Toonami. And this would be during the week, mind you, perfect for the summer in particular.

My channel would also have differently themed months and weekends. Like the summer is all summer blockbuster movies, or we'd get a Sci-Fi weekend or whatever.

This was a lot of fun, but also hard.  Trying to choose shows you think that would do well in certain age groups and time brackets.  I am sure I missed some of my fav shows, and I know I put some in poor spots, but hey... it's my channel.  I made my morning block for kids (before school and stuff) start at 6am and go to a late 10am.  Then toddler and younger block is from about 10am to one.  After one till about four we have the shows kids would turn on after school.  I of course have my primetime hits which, even if an old show, I pretend I revived and have new episodes.  Then I go an "Adult Swim" esque lineup after 10pm.  More tame shows early on.

12:00 AM - King of the Hill
12:30 AM - King of the Hill

Shouldn't Saturday/Sunday programming be different from weekday programming? I mean. not to sound like an old geezer, but in my day, cartoons were only for after school and weekends, which made them all the more special.  Twenty or so years ago they began offering niche networks; now, with sites like Hulu and kisscartoon I can binge-watch stuff from the '70s and '80s on demand 'til my eyeballs damn near fall out (and did, just this past weekend), but it's not really the same, somehow.

I figure my network would offer a mix between classic, and modern programming. I'd have plenty of shows for the kiddies, including "The Tooney Gooney Hour"--a block of uncut classic shorts (Looney Tunes, Tom and Jerry, Mr. Magoo, Fox and Crow)--each afternoon and Saturday morning, nice family sitcoms and thrilling dramas for prime-time, of course something a little more spicy for the after-ten crowd (movies for when you want to snuggle with your partner or, for the onlies and lonelies, just want to whip the ol' one-eyed wonder weasel), and for the wee-hour insomniacs like myself, classic stuff from the '50s, '60's and '70s.

Oh, and of course Svengoolie (http://Svengoolie) would be a network staple, appearing every Saturday at ten p.m.

Of course weekend programming would be different. :)  If you made a channel here, you could show US what your weekday and weekend differences would be.

The thing is, even if you waive the problem of getting legal rights to certain shows, how to represent each animation studio equally.  I'd want to have two-hour theme blocks, e.g. "DiC  (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=57MncrkamhQ) In Your Face", "Filmation Station", and a block for the gross-out cartoons like Beetlejuice, Ren and Stimpy, Toonsylvania and Space Goofs that only older kids could truly appreciate.  But I'd always feel like I was leaving someone out. I'd probably have to throw in a couple of those creepy puppet shows (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KVABFZm0RP8) they run on VTN twice a week to meet a legal E/I mandate.

So I made my network, which is subject to change.  How I did it is pretty much every show airs for at least a full hour so if you miss one episode, you can hopefully catch the other!  That always bugged me growing up and still does.  I included a lot of my old favs too.  In the late night hours I have an Anime segment which shows various anime shows which I think is a neat idea.  Popular shows that we show in that segment get percent spots in those night time slots.  If not popular, we find a diff anime.  I tried to keep a good child-friendly show on in the morning hours for kids.  In the later hours, like prime time, I have more new stuff but also oddly through in one of my favs, Ed, Edd, and Eddy.

Nice transition to night time television too.  You sort of had a buffer area which is a smart idea.  I like your primetime shows.  I would watch it.
