Title: Sing
Post by: Death Blossom on 2016-12-19 21:24:48
Surprised no one has made a topic for this movie. I felt I should make one for it, seeing as it's coming out tomorrow, December 21st (according to Google). Sing is Illumination Entertainment's 7th movie. They are best known for Despicable Me and those pesky yellow dudes, the Minions.

"Dapper Koala Buster Moon presides over a once-grand theater that has fallen on hard times. An eternal optimist, and a bit of a scoundrel, he loves his theater above all and will do anything to preserve it. Facing the crumbling of his life's ambition, he takes one final chance to restore his fading jewel to its former glory by producing the world's greatest singing competition. Five contestants emerge: a mouse, a timid elephant, a pig, a gorilla and a punk-rock porcupine."

Sing will feature the voice talents of: Matthew McConaughey (the koala), Reese Witherspoon (the mother pig), Seth MacFarlane (the mouse), Scarlett Johansson (te porcupine), John C. Reilly, Tori Kelly (the elephant), Taron Egerton (the gorilla), and Nick Kroll (that other pig).

What do you guys think? Are you going to go watch it?

I don't know. It sounds like a good premise but most of the all star cast movies I've seen recently haven't been all that good.

Didn't interest me because I am not interested in reality tv to begin with.  If I see it, it will be through renting it or if a friend has it.

Well, I feel they picked the all star cast for the singing ability. I guess from early Viewing's people have been saying it's good. I've been seeing 7.5-8's and stuff. My family wants to go see it, and so does my SO, so I'm going to inevitably see it haha. Not that I mind, it has me interested. Reminds my mom and I of Happy Feet, with the whole singing old school songs (and new ones).

Films are becoming very sterile and bland.  This falls into that category to me.  It's trying to be "hip" with the times.  So eh, I'll pass on seeing it.

Feels like budget zootopia.

Maybe if it was a parody of the reality TV/"Idol" type show genre... but it seems pretty straightforward. Also, haven't we seen plenty of films about singing competitions already?

It will just be a film with a bunch of licensed music and pop culture references.  Like someone said above, it is just trying to be current.  Five years from now, it won't mean anything and be forgotten.  It is a film for the "now" and not meant to stay relevant.

Idk, I thought the characters looked interesting. The songs probably won't be the only thing that happens.

Every single time I glance through front page of the forum, and I see, "Sing", I think it reads, "Sting (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C3lWwBslWqg)."

I just got back from seeing the movie, I loved it! Also there was a sneeze in the movie! ;D

Hm, so why was it good? My mom is going to have me take my sisters to see it after Christmas.

It had some great cover songs and I liked how it is a movie that is a take on live action drama movies but with animals. Also I like the characters too. :)

Who sneezes?

Maybe the elephant? I know IF would like that haha

Post by: DEEcat98 on 2016-12-21 20:24:28
No it was not Meena (who is the elephant), and it was not Ash. Although I would have liked to see either one of the two sneeze in the movie which sadly never happened. :'( It was the iguana lady who sneezed.

Oh the secretary.

Post by: DEEcat98 on 2016-12-21 20:28:06
Yep. Pretty much the only sneeze we got in the movie, I wanted either the porcupine or the elephant to sneeze in the movie, but instead it was the iguana who sneezed. :-\

Eh, it doesn't really matter. Doesn't affect the movie.

True.

To me, it seems like a lot of movies have the least appealing characters sneeze.  "I would have loved the dragon to sneeze... oh no, it was the dragonfly who sneezed...."

It may be because it's for humor. For gross out.

Yeah, I kinda don't like that when it happens in movies when they show a sneeze in them. But at least we have our imagination. If Ash sneezed, I would love to see her sneeze a bunch of quills from her which would scare everybody! XD
Title: Re: Sing
Post by: Death Blossom on 2016-12-21 20:38:10
But that's not how quills work D:
Title: Re: Sing
Post by: Darrin on 2016-12-21 20:41:56
Thats how they work in cartoons. ;9
Title: Re: Sing
Post by: DEEcat98 on 2016-12-21 20:43:24
Well it's a cartoon, cartoons don't have to be accurate to real life. Also seeing Ash sneeze which would cause her quills to come out would be something that I would have loved to see in the movie! ;D

Post by: Death Blossom on 2016-12-21 20:53:57
Pffff. I guess cartoon logic, but it would seem very unsafe.

I still wanna see this movie. <3 It's like a spiritual sequel/successor to Cats Don't Dance.

Low on plot, like real low, but it has heart.

How was it for those who saw it?  Worth seeing?
Title: Re: Sing
Post by: DEEcat98 on 2017-01-22 12:27:51
I think it can be for people who like music and/or anthro animals like the ones in Zootopia.
Title: Re: Sing
Post by: Anyponedrawn on 2017-01-22 12:46:58
Was it kind of a mindless film?  Like you just go there and zone out to watch it?
Title: Re: Sing
Post by: Death Blossom on 2017-01-22 13:04:53
Nah, not exactly. There is conflict with the characters and there were moments in the film where I went "oh no" and was worried about the characters and what not. There are moments where it is a bit mindless. But it's interesting.

It's got heart. And I liked that haha. There were some eye roll moments, but then like "oh shit" moments.

Alright.  That might be kind of fun then. :)  Plus singing is always fun to hear.
