Okay. Star Wars. One of the biggest franchises known to man. Lets have a topic on it shall we?

What all do you know? What movie was your favorite? Did you grow up with it? Did you not really know about it? Did you hate Jar Jar as much as everyone else?

Episode 7 comes out on DVD next tuesday. I'm quite surprised its already coming out. It only came out just this past december. Do movies always take that long to be released on DVD and I just haven't been paying attention? Or was this one just so damn popular no one could wait to get it released on home video as soon as possible?

Thats exactly what it was. IT was just a new hope redone. Hold on.....the Critic reviewed it actually and it gave me some good insight as to what it really was.

I've not bothered to watch the newest one yet.  Just can't get excited about it.  Probably catch it sometime after it's released to video.

As for a favorite, I have to go for the original.  I had no idea what to expect and could only guess at what it was going to be like.  I even had a dream (that I still somehow vaguely remember!) about what I thought it was going to be.  And then it finally came to theaters and totally blew me away.  Nothing like what I imagined, and like nothing else I'd seen up to that point.  The rest of the trilogy was good too, epic and spellbinding, but they couln't compete with the sheer impact of the first.

The prequels were...eh.  Visually pretty.  Lacking in pretty much every other way.  Dumbed down, lame plot and dialog, wooden acting by kid Anakin.  Jar-Jar didn't really bother me since he fit in pretty well with the rest of the "family friendly" format.  The outrage against him amused me though.

I need someone who is a pro on this subject.

I watched this video and now think the Empire is good and the Jedi are wrong.  Is this video true?

This is a giant joke video, just read the description:

Quote
"The video is done in fun to show both how propaganda can be used to spin anything and that there are some plot holes in Star Wars.

(...)

I am not implying that the empire, sith, or their associates are perfectly good and I am not saying the jedi, rebels, or their associates are purely evil. But each side sits squarely on a spectrum.

(...)"

That said, inside the Star Wars community we often joke about the Empire not being that bad... and if we want to be honest, they're not the worst thing in the Star Wars galaxy.
Don't get me wrong, the Empire is terrible, they're pro slavery, they successfully committed genocide of a couple of alien species (rip Geonosians), they're also racist against alien species... and yeah, Alderaan.
But compared to other factions... at least they actually brought order to the galaxy in some way?
The Republic was just a giant filthy puddle of corruption. The CIS was just Palpatine's puppet faction. The Rebel Alliance is just a group of fanatical terrorists. And then there are the Underworld criminal organizations...

I guess this means that living the Star Wars universe just sucks... :P

Return of the Jedi has always been my favorite.  I grew up with the original trilogy and for me, Star Wars means those three movies.  I don't hate the prequels or Disney sequels and spinoffs, but I don't love them either.

So based off what you said... The Empire might be the best thing for the galaxy at that moment in time.  Uniting people and trying to allow order.

The Rebel Alliance has no grand plans other than kill.

Well the rebels won and still couldn't take full control over everything... looking at the new trilogy. They beat the big bad but couldn't finish the job... XD We're right back where we started and it is up to the Mary Sue to save the day.

If you just look at the original trilogy though, not any expanded universe stuff either before or from Disney, just the first 3 movies ever made, did it seem like the average citizen really have that much of a reason to hate being ruled by the Empire, though? I mean, so long as they weren't harboring fugitive droids, or living on Alderaan, or any other cities that were used as bait for any Sith lord's offspring? Maybe as long as you weren't trying to overthrow the Empire or were associated with people who were, you could still probably live a happy and prosperous life, maybe? When I think about it, the movies never really give much of a reason to believe otherwise.
