Title: Origin Discussion
Post by: Anyponedrawn on 2017-11-19 12:50:50
ORIGIN DISCUSSION

Welcome to the Origin Discussion topic.  All things related to the Origin gaming site will be in this topic.

Official Origin Store (https://www.origin.com/usa/en-us/)

Old Topic below------------------------------

Origin, the EA alternative to Steam.  Is it any good or worth making an account?

I guess if you want EA games, then yes.... but my question is mainly for people who have Origin.  Do they have good sales and content like Steam does?

For me Steam wins with the amount of games it has and the excellent sales. Origin has all the EA games you can't buy on Steam.  Steam has a more social function too, while Origin has different features.  They don't have the big sales either, but they do give away a free game each month.

They both do things different and are fine for different things.  The majority of people will tell you Steam is better.

According to this unofficial site, 91.20% prefer Steam over Origin's 8.80% vote (http://worldversus.com/Origin-vs-Steam).

Feedback is good guys.  Thank you.

Surprised more didn't have opinions, but based on the 91% choosing Steam over Origin, I think that answers that.

Origin's sale is on right now, this is THEIR BIG SALE for the year, this and Christmas.

Check for yourself the good deals they have.

Yeah, nothing really good there from EA's Origin.  The Sims 4 was a good price for $9, but still a lot of money... they want $40 for it still, and all their expansions are ridiculously priced at $29.  I will stick with Steam.

Origin's sale sucks.

Even I know Steam is the way to go, bro.

Only time you use origin is when you can't play the game on steam.

Well... you could get the Sims 4 cheap if you like those games. ;)  Only $10.  Can you imagine they are still asking $49 for that game regularly?  All the DLC are $39 each!!!!  Are they mad? The small DLC is $15 each!

They are way over priced, but people buy the Sims and they know that.

They are a fun game though.

That is the problem.  The game is cheap and fine, but when they have the DLC cost an absorbent amount of money to unlock features that were in previous games... thats when it gets maddening.

Exactly, thats the problem!  They know that though.  A low entry price will entice people to buy all the things they want.

If you are a Sims player, this is the time to buy their overpriced content.

There are some very good sales going on right now.  It's a shame they aren't just on Steam, lol.
Title: Origin Is Shutting Down . . .
Post by: Silverwing on 2022-10-13 16:54:56
Origin is Shutting Down and Becoming the EA App (https://gg.deals/blog/electronic-arts-is-shutting-down-origin-the-launcher-is-getting-replaced-by-the-ea-app/).

EA is officially saying goodbye to Origin. When you log in to the launcher, you will see a notification saying that later this year, the EA app for Windows will replace Origin as the destination for purchasing, downloading, and playing EA games.

Gamers will be gradually receiving invites to transfer onto the new platform. Electronic Arts promises that all of your games, additional content, and the already installed titles will be available to you as soon as you log into the EA app. All saved games, be they stored locally or in the cloud, will also be transferred, so you don’t need to worry about losing any progress in your favorite releases. Your Origin friends list will also migrate to the new software.

Mac users can remain calm, as they will be able to continue using Origin on their systems for the time being. Any information on potential changes on their platform is still months away.

Wow, thanks for posting.

Seems like it will live on as EA App, which is a crummy name for a program.

I will update this topic once we know more about the new program.

Strangely, it seems like they are keeping the name Origin for Apple/Mac computers.
