This fandom has been around for a long time. I myself have been in it since 2011 and I have seen a lot of things that are no longer around. Like the button mash videos. Those were hilarious. What has been your favorite piece of content from the fandom that you enjoy?
-
Hm. Gosh.
Button Mash was one of the golden nuggets or the fandom.
I'm sure some people will also bring up Princess Molestia, and the Pinkamena ask blog.
Truly, I'm not what my favorite nostalgic thing is.
-
Oh!
When BronyCurious and DigiBrony were actually good analyzers and not stuck up pricks with sticks of nostalgia so stuck far up their asses that they just hated the show for no reason.
-
all the old tumblr blogs, Cupcakes the fanfic, a lot of old artists, the goodnight pinkie comics that came out before every episode back in the day.....so many wonderful memories.
-
I miss Princess Molestia, though she is around still, but not as prominent. She is in some other blog now, by the same artist, but it focuses on Luna now. They've made Luna sort of percy too though....
Button Mash was good. Jan Animations was my favorite.
I like what Richard Sirious (spelling) was doing too with "Children of the Night" and a follow up animation he did. He is really amazing too and has another project in the works.
Really hoped for that Mane 6 game that was about fighting too.
I guess it is old enough now to mention, but Scootaloo's Scootaquest is a fav of mine too.
-
A sequel to COTN is coming
-
Yeah, Oh cool! Is that their other animation they are doing?
-
Sure is. The announcement was made on Equestria Daily not too long ago
-
Sure is. The announcement was made on Equestria Daily not too long ago
Soon to be followed by a Hasbro, CEASE AND DESIST order.
-
Well at least the one for misterdavies was taken back. All his videos are back up
-
Scootaloo's Scootaquest is right up there for me. Right near the top. Especially since it seems to have stopped being produced. :-/ Loved that series.
I loved the stories our community posted and the art content. To me that is all part of the Brony fandom and nostalgia. The classic work by MasterXtreme and P3 were all up there.
I can't forget all the great musical artists. My favorites were Mandobrony, who has now moved on to.... ehhh... kinda lamer material. My favorite had to have been 4Everfreebrony, who still does stuff, but is on a Missions Trip. I actually bought his CD's, I loved his music that much. A calmer, but melodic kind of songs. Lots of emotion.
-
Oh no, Scootaquest is still being produced.
It may not seem like it, but it is.
-
There was this one story in scipt format called the Vinyl Scratch tapes. It was like a documentation of a radio show she and Octavia did together. It was put into audio format as well and it was hilarious!
-
Oh no, Scootaquest is still being produced.
It may not seem like it, but it is.
It is? Wow, very slow. I love the final product each time, but they risk losing their entire base with these long updates. I think they know that too...
-
Yeah he's going at a slow pace but he's still doing it.
-
Actually it's a common misconception. It isn't Hasbro that does the cease and desists. It's someone in association with them.
COTN I don't think can get a C&D. They don't use Flash to make the animations.
-
Really? Didn't know that. Fun fact!
-
Which one? That's it's not Hasbro doing the C&D's or that COTN isn't animated in Flash?
-
the one about COTN. But the one about the C&D's is interesting too
-
Yeah, so people gotta stop hating on Hasbro for that. It's not their fault.
-
Also, apparently JanAnimations is a dick to work with. He helped on SillyFillyStudios I believe. I know people who have worked with him. He's an ass apparently.
-
huh.....well thats kinda screwy
-
He would be an ass?!
-
Well....I kinda understand. He had a lot on his plate. I could understand why he would be a little difficult with a workload like that.
-
Richard Sirois is an amazingly talented guy. He was famous for Kim Possible art before he went to do pony stuff.
http://knowyourmeme.com/photos/949995-kim-possible
-
On SillyFilly?
He has no right to be an ass.
But yes, he's an awful person to work with.
It's why he works alone on the Button Mash stuff.
-
Ooooooo I didn't know that
-
Yeah.
-
Oh!
Great Brony nostalgia?
"Isn't It Great To Be Different". Good song.
-
Here is a vid Richard Sirois and company made through their channel, Duo Cartoonist.
-
Oh!
Great Brony nostalgia?
"Isn't It Great To Be Different". Good song.
Great song. :) "Great to be Different" by Forest Rain. Good ballad.
And how can we forget, "Discord" by Eurobeat Brony. That song got radio air time in Europe.
-
Yes! That song is amazing!
-
And the Luna song he did.
-
Oh, I only really like his Discord song.
Oh, another song is Wonderbolt by Prince Whatever.
-
I liked the Aviators and all the episode centered songs they did. Like Fear of Flight for Hurricane Fluttershy
-
Hmm
-
never heard those?
-
Nope.
-
-
Cool I'll give it a listen later.
-
Oh, another song is Wonderbolt by Prince Whatever.
Totally forgot about his cover. That was good.
Aviators is good, but his voice isn't right for some things.
I bought his CD, "Building Better Worlds," and almost ever song is great.
-
Cool.
Oh, Derpy's Song by MandoPony is really good too.
I dislike almost every song by him except that one. And Shimmer On.
-
Lyra's Anthropology Song, Lullaby for a Princess, Knights of Time and Space....
-
Lullaby for a Princess and all the other versions are gorgeous.
-
And of course...Friendship is Witchcraft. The Gypsy bard. Pinkie's Brew....
-
Mandopony can get pretty campy.
Lullaby for a Princess, Children of the Night, beautiful songs. Gorgeous to listen to. I know there are others on this league.
Lyra's Anthropology, the song and animation, are terrific! Too bad a finalized animation never happened, but oh welllsssszzz.
-
Anthroopology beleieve it or not is STILL being worked on. Albeit very slowly
-
I never liked anthropology.
-
Some smaller names would be PikaPetey and Piemations, which I left an example of the latter below. There is also that that James guy who made MLP/Sonic crossovers. Yes it sounds dumb, but they were decent. Those are some of the newer people who still makes things in the fandom.
Plus we get new people all the time in the fandom, but I don't know any others who would be nostalgia yet.
-
Lol, wtf, that Applejack face.
Oh my gosh! Just remembered, HotDigetyDemon and his .mov series. Hilarious shit yo.
-
I never watched the .mov series.
Because I want my mind to keep a good image of MLP. XD XD XD
-
Oh come on. And reading smut about them doesn't ruin the image? Just watch it as an AU. Which it is since they all have different cutie marks.
-
I never read smut either. XD
No, no, no, seriously, I didn't watch the .mov series because it just happens that I didn't have a chance to watch them. ::)
-
Lol, wtf, that Applejack face.
Oh my gosh! Just remembered, HotDigetyDemon and his .mov series. Hilarious shit yo.
TOTALLY forgot about that. .MOV spurred a generation, lol! It is actually what Piemation does in their animations, very similar, if not the same universe...kinda. Or maybe they are mocking it in parody.
-
Heh, it's a funny style.
-
oooohhhh the .mov series. Who could forget that?
-
also, the doctor whooves audio plays
-
Oh yeah. Those were pretty alright.
-
I actually got to talk with Keikoandgilly, the voice of the doctor
-
Wow, nice.
-
It was awesome
-
I've actually met a lot of horse famous people. Keyframe the analyst, Dawillstinator, Solrac, and others
-
Keyframe?
I don't even know who the fuck that is.
I've met a lot of Horse Famous people. Like some of the popular military guys.
-
I think I've met Solrac
-
Keyframe is an analyst
-
Never heard of him.
Like, ever.
-
"Her", not "him".
-
Keyframe is indeed a female
-
Still never heard of her.
-
well whatever
-
Heh.
-
The Manliest Bronie.
There is also Baasik and BlackGryph0n.
Lets not forget Silver Quill.
-
Silver Quill is relatively new though. Not really nostalgic yet.
BlackGryph0n is great.
-
Lets not forget Silver Quill.
I watch him. :D
His videos, I mean.
-
Manliest Bronie? You mean DustyKat?
-
Of course there is Bronies react too
-
They're great. Love their videos.
-
Cool topic idea. So much here actually, and I know we are missing a bunch.
IsiahKim animated a few shorts, but they were well known. He did Lyra's Anthropology animatic, worked with some other big projects, and did a fun Derpy video.
Can't forget Megaphoric with their work, "Lullaby for a Princess," "Trusting You," and "The Twilight Will Rise," to name a few.
Turquoise Splash deserves some credit for their music.
A real early one is THE REPLACER best known for, "Cerulean Blue." One of their newest songs, "In Defence of Madness" is pretty well known, done just in 2015.
Lets not forget Sherclop Pones and all those songs and videos about Rainbow Dash and friends. They now do the Mentally Advanced Series which is still pony.
WoodLore may be too new, but has a distinctive sound to their brony music.
-
Only the first few episodes of the .mov series are really "nostalgic" for me (Apple, Dress, and Shed). I sort of just stopped keeping up with it once Magic.mov aired because the episode releases were so few and far between. xD
My friends on DA and I all tried independently running our own ask blogs at one point between 2011 and 2012. One of them that my friend did was a trans!Rainbow Dash one that had a good amount of followers. I doubt it still updates but it was part of her own AUs regarding the series, so it was a way for her to work on expanding her universe.
Button Mash was something I think I found by accident sometime in 2013 via that Ask The Crusaders blog, but I remember it fondly. I have the same feelings towards Snowdrop – I cried when I first watched that, and that's pretty rare for me.
Berry Punch actually used to be my favorite background pony for a LONG time. I followed a fair few ask blogs with her in my day.
-
Carrot Top was my favorite (and still is my favorite) background pony.
I think I've seen images from that blog. Liked interesting. (The trans!Rainbow Dash one).
-
All this
-
SillyFilly Studios, they are on the list and still make things.
JoaftheLoaf is a singer. He is well remembered and still makes content.
The Living Tombstone, he is still around, but has branched out.
Carbon Maestro was strictly instrumental in their work, and it was always very brooding and moody.
Jeff Burgess, Daniel Ingram, YourEngima, Eileen Montgomery, Even Star, Luna Jax, are a few others.
-
Did you guys ever see the pokemon abridged series Nowacking stars in?
-
Eilie Monty is a beautiful singer.
I'm iffy on TLTs. He uses a lot of auto tune.
-
Nope. I've heard of it though.
-
Pokemon 'bridged. She does both Misty and Jessie. It's HILARIOUS! Espescially when they get to Brock
-
The Living Tombstone is not really someone I care for in terms of their music. I also find their voice kind of annoying. But they are good at what they do.
-
Oh boy haha.
Yeah. He's good at what he does, but his voice is nyeeeeeeeh
-
I met the guy once. At babscon 2014. Nice guy
-
Yeah, he seems like a cool guy.
-
he's chill
-
That's cool. :) At least he is a good guy.
-
Yeah :)
-
that is really cool. I don't expect people with fame to be cool guys but this fandom has really turned my view on it
-
Oh damn didn't see this thread.
I been on the ride long enough to remember when the very very brief previews of season 2 happened (i'm talking still photos) artists managed to almost figure out what discord looked like just from a sideways stained glass. Those were good times. Pic related.

-
Whoa. Coolio.
-
oooooo discord
-
Looks weird. But pretty close.
-
the old fanart days.....you guys know who atryl is?
-
Thats like asking who Braeburned is :P
-
Well some know him and some do
-
Ah. Braeburned is actually a big sweetheart. He's also quite the cutie.
-
really?
-
Oh yeah.
He's like, super cute.
-
pics?
-
I don't have any. Next con.
-
NECT CON!
-
Yes!
-
I have been a fan of MLP since the first episode.
I think my favorite episode out of most is that first episode.
I do like the second one "Escape From Katrina"
Just the first one was so different from the rest.
Oh and
I grew up with them ^^ I must admit I was a bit diappointed in FiM at first, I felt that they had butchered my childhood, the show is good, it just lacks what the old ones had
-
At least you don't like the really bad old versions.
The older older versions were pretty cool
-
I liked all of G1, then MLP tales where they were teens.
Then it went downhill...
-
Oh yeah it went downhill. It went downhill reaaaaaaaaaal bad.
-
I was actually a fan of My Little Pony Tales a few years before the announcement of FiM's premier. I always thought Tales was really cute, and had a nice simple charm to it. Plus it was the first incarnation to actively integrate male and female ponies into the cast (as opposed to G1, which only had the one episode with the Big Brother Ponies).
-
Huh, that's pretty cool.
Big Brother Ponies, that's pretty cute.
-
Yeah that's true... and with tales it went to be *ponies only*
Humans and other creatures disappeared.... Like the Bushwillies.... Miss those.
The new show lacks so many things: Flutter ponies, sea ponies, bushwillies
I was so sad when they brought back Tirek... he was so badass in the first episode he scared the crap out of me as a kid X3
(http://40.media.tumblr.com/9551eee3847222b11b78eda36ad1eee8/tumblr_mmm8yntD021spj3v5o2_1280.png)
Then they brought him back.... like this
(http://vignette2.wikia.nocookie.net/villains/images/8/83/Tirek_ID.png/revision/latest?cb=20140510164810)
-
He was still pretty scary. It might also be that you're just not a little kid anymore.
It's just how powerful he became and how intimidating he was that was scary.
As for creatures, the new show has griffons, the breezies, changelings, a lot of mythological creatures, and hints from the show writers point to sea ponies in the near future. I look forward to it!
-
Don't think it has to do with being a kid or not... He was way scarier, once he opened the pouch containing the rainbow of darkness you cowered.
-
Rainbow of darkness? The fuck?
-
Yup, he posessed the rainbow of darkness.
He had his servants capture some of the ponies and then turned them into monsters to pull his midnight wagon.
To defeat him, the ponies with help from their human friend Meghan, seeked out the only weapon that could finish him off; The rainbow of light.
It was only a tiny piece of the rainbow of light in the locket, but it defeated the rainbow of darkness and then defeated Tirek.
You should watch that episode
-
Whoa. Spooky scary.
-
Watch it :D
-
When I have time haha
-

That is pretty dark. :) Totally 80s, and I love that.
-
who here saw the bronies react vid of gen 3?
-
I did. It broke ACRacebest. Completely broke him.
-
There were parts that broke EVERYONE
-
Yeah.
"IS THAT RAINBOW DASH?"
-
WHAT IS THAT?! WHAT THE HELL IS THAT?!?!?!
Michelle Creber just fell to the ground laughing
-
Was that in reaction to the Newborn Cuties one? Lol
-
yes it was
-
That was pretty funny.
-

Of course :P I don't know, maybe it's the bad guys were actually BAD guys here.
I mean we have witches that fill dreamvalley with smoos!
Or a monster that looks like a thundercloud and that eats peoples' shadows!
-
Hey, the bad guys in FIM are bad, just... I think they have limits with censors and shit.
But yes, I remember the bad guy that stole ponies shadows. I did watch that special haha.
-
Villain that takes shadows? That's doctor who shit
-
Heh. It was like, the dude took ponies shadows and become more powerful. And he had a pony helping him called Night Shade (I think) and he was in a contract with him. It's a good episode/special.
-
interesting
-
Hey, the bad guys in FIM are bad, just... I think they have limits with censors and shit.
Some would argue too many censors. Though I am amazed at what they allow already since this is a children's show.
-
I know right? Crazy what they can get away with.
Not as much as in the good ol days, but quite a lot with today's censors.
-
Funny animation. Not old. Rather new. But funny.
-
we can't forget about this now can we?
-
Ah Eesh. I'm told that was something from te good ol days. I unfortunately don't like it that much. Nor do I like most of MandoPony's stuff. For some reason it doesn't jive with me. I like 3 of his songs haha. Shimmer On, Loyalty, and Derpy's song.
-
Seems weird to think of nostalgia when it doesn't feel like the show's been on that long. I still think of myself as a latecomer for not getting into it until a few months after it first started.
I think what I miss the most is when the fans were still inspired by the show's positivity and were actually nice, before slipping back into old chan-ish behavior again. As for creative output, I mostly stuck with artwork. I loved how people could make amazingly epic paintings based on the show. But I can still find new stuff, so it doesn't really count as nostalgia.
-
We're five and a half seasons in. What time frame does count for nostalgia nowadays?
-
I consider nostalgia like ten to fifteen years ago and older.
I have never seen the Apple Thief video before. Amazingly animated! Wow!
-
For me, I guess somewhere around twenty or more years.
-
For me, anything before 2010. ;)
-
For me, I guess somewhere around twenty or more years.
I'd do stuff from the 1990s and older.
