Title: Moana
Post by: Death Blossom on 2016-11-21 18:03:28
Disney's new movie coming out tomorrow November 22 (23?). Staring Auli'i Cravalho and Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson.
"An adventurous teenager sails out on a daring mission to save her people. During her journey, Moana meets the once-mighty demigod Maui, who guides her in her quest to become a master way-finder. Together they sail across the open ocean on an action-packed voyage, encountering enormous monsters and impossible odds. Along the way, Moana fulfills the ancient quest of her ancestors and discovers the one thing she always sought: her own identity."

Is anyone going to see it? I'm probably going to. What do you guys think of it?

Found it.

For some reason, this didn't pique my interest.

Post by: RainySunshine on 2016-11-21 18:18:06
This is going to sound horrible.... I am not fond of the character designs.

And when I saw Moana, all I think of is MOANING.  MOAN-UUHHHH.

I will probably see it when it is rentable.

This movie has me very much interested.
Title: Re: Moana
Post by: Smiles2us on 2016-11-21 18:21:58
I think it looks fun and all, but I probably won't see it unless I go with someone who wants to see it.
Title: Re: Moana
Post by: Death Blossom on 2016-11-21 18:24:19
A lot of people don't seem to be interested in this movie. Even among my friends. I feel they didn't advertise much for this movie. But it's apparently good. Early access critiques and stuff seem to really like it. I'm excited to see how they do the Hawaiian stuff. It would be cool.
Title: Re: Moana
Post by: RainySunshine on 2016-11-21 18:30:24
Reminds me of Lilo & Stitch.  I alway liked Lilo's older sister as a kid. :)  Uhhh.... she was cool, okay.
Title: Re: Moana
Post by: Death Blossom on 2016-11-21 18:31:32
This is old school Hawaii, with all their cool legends and gods. Lilo and Stitch was awesome. Loved their designs and the story. But yeah, I'm looking forward to this :)
Title: Re: Moana
Post by: Anyponedrawn on 2016-11-21 18:32:22
Her sister was a "cool character."  Yep.  :)  Not because of how she looked, it was because she was cool.  Honest.  *Fingers crossed.*
Title: Re: Moana
Post by: Smiles2us on 2016-11-21 18:33:10
I hope it does well, and it is cool is old world, Hawaii.  I wonder if Hawaiian's will be upset if they butcher their past and traditions?
Title: Re: Moana
Post by: Death Blossom on 2016-11-21 18:36:57
Disney does do their research, as does Pixar. I'm sure they tried to the best of their abilities. And they weren't insulted with Lilo and Stitch. And that had some Hawaiian stuff (obviously).

And lol APD.
Title: Re: Moana
Post by: Smiles2us on 2016-11-21 18:40:31
That's true, Lilo & Stitch was done considerately.
Title: Re: Moana
Post by: MasterXtreme on 2016-11-21 19:04:18
It is visually appealing, I will give it that.  But it didn't garner much interest with me or anyone I know.  I have been trying to figure out why.  The tv ads don't explain what the story is about, and that might be a reason.
Title: Re: Moana
Post by: Death Blossom on 2016-11-21 19:08:00
And just not much ads in general.
Title: Re: Moana
Post by: MasterXtreme on 2016-11-21 19:16:16
I don't feel Disney has a lot of faith in the film, hence the poor advertising.  Companies for some reason give up all hope on films when they feel they aren't good, and they don't even try to salvage them.  That is the impression I am getting from Disney.

It should be the opposite.  They are currently on a high from Zootopia, and you think they would market that with it, but this film isn't made by the Zootopia writers... it is the Big Hero 6 crowd, which had a lot of advertising, but didn't do well.  So I feel Disney cut back their advertising with this group.
Title: Re: Moana
Post by: Anyponedrawn on 2016-11-21 19:18:41
Big Hero 6 still did good in the box office though.  Bottom dollar, but got little better then average reviews.

Hm. Odd. It seems Disney doesn't try hard with their colored main characters *pouty duck lips*
But nah, I'm looking for things that aren't there.

Wish they'd do a Hispanic main character. But that's just me haha. But I think this'll be fun. And I think Moana is really pretty. I'll be sad if this is a good movie and doesn't do successfully.

You are. ;) They promoted the snot out of Lio & Stitch and the Princess and the Frog.
Title: Re: Moana
Post by: Anyponedrawn on 2016-11-21 19:23:51
Disney has made a animated CGI princess for Mexico, and she is a Hispanic Princess.  She just isn't known in the US, but her toys are here. I think they released her film as a direct to video movie here.
Title: Re: Moana
Post by: Death Blossom on 2016-11-21 19:30:50
Princess and the Frog wasn't as big a financial success though :/

Why wasn't it in America? I mean, there's Princess Sofi. But she's white. Because she's Hispanic. They bamboozled people there before her release lol.
Title: Re: Moana
Post by: Anyponedrawn on 2016-11-21 19:33:07
I don't know.  They did release her on DVD here, and Hispanic kids probably know about her.
Title: Re: Moana
Post by: Death Blossom on 2016-11-21 19:34:06
But why on DVD? did they feel it wouldn't be successful?
Title: Re: Moana
Post by: Anyponedrawn on 2016-11-21 19:41:44
It wasn't made to the highest quality.  It was made by like a television studio.  So it was a lower standard of animation that developing country wouldn't care about, but wouldn't pass in developed country theaters.

Well, I posted what summary I got.

Hey, Dee, why do you randomly capitalize random words in sentences?
Title: Re: Moana
Post by: Anyponedrawn on 2016-11-21 21:27:20
Emphasis probably.  It is sort of what I do when I want to make a point or randomly START TO YELL!  ;)
Title: Re: Moana
Post by: Death Blossom on 2016-11-21 21:29:46
But it seems really random sometimes. Like just random capitalization.

Well, I posted what summary I got.

Hey, Dee, why do you randomly capitalize random words in sentences?

Well I just keep on posting capitalize when it comes to Movies and Shows.
Title: Re: Moana
Post by: Death Blossom on 2016-11-21 22:37:04
It's not really proper. Movie does not need a capitlization and neither does show unless you are talking about the specific show itself, then the title of it is capitalized. Like example: Spongebob Squarepants.
Title: Re: Moana

Oh ok.
Title: Re: Moana
Post by: Anyponedrawn on 2016-11-21 22:45:00
I guess advertising is pretty poor for this movie.  I did see an ad for it while watching the football game though, so that was a lot of viewers who saw it.
Title: Re: Moana
Post by: Silverwing on 2016-11-21 23:20:13
Visually this looks to be eye candy.  I particularly like the change in character style, taking attributes that are not neccesarly deemed "beautiful" in the Euro-centric world view we have, and making these two delightfully, and visually appealing characters.

this is the first disney movie in a while that made me want to download the whole soundtrack. Which I did. It's catchy. And hey. The Rock can sing.
Title: Re: Moana
Post by: Death Blossom on 2016-11-24 20:42:33
The Rock can.... Sing? Wut.

But huh, I bet it has a nice soundtrack. It's a very beautiful looking movie, it should have a beautiful soundtrack to accompany it. Some nice island themed stuff maybe? I look forward to it ^^

Just got out of the theaters. It was a very nice movie. Beautiful animation, a nice sountrack and some pretty good songs.
Title: Re: Moana
Post by: Smiles2us on 2016-11-25 17:22:35
I heard there was some traditional animation in this film that was excellent.  That's all I know.  I had a friend who went and saw it, and they said it was "cute" but then said how much they liked the traditional animation parts in it.  Then the subject changed quickly.
Title: Re: Moana

The traditional animation is the tatoos lol.

I Thought he was actually pretty frickin good
Title: Re: Moana
Post by: Death Blossom on 2016-11-26 17:19:34
I think he smooths up his voice for the role in general, so it's not so... Gruff sounding but still got that punch.
His singing voice was like wow. I was shocked. He's pretty dang good.
And they didn't list another va as the singer in the credits, so it was his.

Title: Re: Moana
Post by: Death Blossom on 2016-11-26 17:53:34
It's a trope. It's called BLAM.
But the point is that the song is BLAM and just like Wut. If someone knows it's coming it's not so "wait the hell, why is their singing music starting up... Oh no!" This dude was weird lol. Not even the kids in the theater I was in laughed during it, I think we all had the same "huh" expression during his whole scene XD

Title: Re: Moana
Post by: Death Blossom on 2016-11-27 08:51:49
Oh. Eh. It doesn't matter to me. It's not like I'll go watch a movie if there's a chance a sneeze is in there lol.

A friend of mine, who is a girl (like how I have to point that out?), said she loved this movie.  She fan girls over a lot of stuff, but she said this movie made her bawl her eyes out.

Is there a reason to cry in this movie?

She also said she cried at "How to Train Your Dragon 2" which I also haven't seen.... I'm sensing she cries a lot.
Title: Re: Moana

Damn bro. I would watch it a bunch too, but I'm poor. That Shiny song, actually the more I listened to it the less it was a BLAM type song. What he sings is relevant and the things he brought up are discussed later. The first time watching it I didn't realize, I didn't listen that much to the lyrics because I was so surprised.

I just thought it would have made the movie more fun if Pua went on the journey like he and Hei Hei went on the boat together to join Moana.
Title: Re: Moana
Post by: Death Blossom on 2017-01-20 23:21:04
Pua wouldn't have assisted on the journey like Hei Hei did. Some things are done for story purposes.
