"Young Kubo's (Art Parkinson) peaceful existence comes crashing down when he accidentally summons a vengeful spirit from the past. Now on the run, Kubo joins forces with Monkey (Charlize Theron) and Beetle (Matthew McConaughey) to unlock a secret legacy. Armed with a magical instrument, Kubo must battle the Moon King (Ralph Fiennes) and other gods and monsters to save his family and solve the mystery of his fallen father, the greatest samurai warrior the world has ever known."

Laika's newest movie, Kubo and the Two Strings, is their fourth stop motion movie. It takes place in feudal Japan and focuses on the adventure of the titular character Kubo. As per usual with Laika, it's pretty dark but has good helpings of comedy to balance it out. Oh and George Takei is in it.

I just learned about this studio.  They do everything in Portland, Oregon, and it is amazing all the props and set pieces they make.  The dude who owns this studio is the guy who created Nike, which is also from Oregon.  Phil Knight.  His son directed this film.

One prop they use in this movie is the biggest stop motion prop used ever. Won't spoil what it is, but it's awesome. This movie is just Visuel effects of awesome.

You goof.   ::) :P ;D

Okay... I will admit I thought that too.  I just learned Kubo was a girl because you said that.   :-[

I guess I should have figured that with the masculine 'o' being used, but still, Kubo doesn't sound like a female name to me.

My boyfriend also thought Kubo was a girl. I really don't know how. Doesn't his voice sound boyish? And in the trailers don't they have a clip of the mom saying he was handsome just like his father lol. I mean, I guess the long hair can throw you off? But yeah, it gives me a chuckle.

I think a large portion of the population thing Kubo is a girl.  People will go to the theater and be shocked when they learn he is a boy. ;)  That's my guess.

I really want to see this film, based on some reviews, it sounds like this film is a breath of fresh air, and has a good moral story to it.
