Title: Shows that you watched from your childhood
Post by: DEEcat98 on 2017-01-20 23:23:41
So what are some shows that you used to watch during your childhood? Well here are mine.

Sesame Street (classic episodes)
Blue's Clues
Spongebob Squarepants (older episodes)
Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends
The Mr Men Show
PB&J Otter
CatDog
Pokemon (Gen 1-4 Seasons)
Digimon
G1 MLP (I watched the G1 MLP cartoon through DVDs and Youtube back when I was younger before the very popular G4 MLP cartoon existed)
and there is a lot more but these are the ones I want to mention for now. ;D

Hmm, interesting topic. Good topic. But I feel, this is so weird how it happens to often. I'm getting dejavu here. I feel we have something similar already to this. Anybody else?

But uh, your classic late 90's to early 2000's shows.

I don't remember a thread like this. It is suppose to be about the shows you watched when you were little like me for instance.

Well you've only been here for like a month lol. Forums been up for a year.
But in positive we have a thread like or similar to this enough for it to be merged. Please try to look through topics before making new ones to avoid stuff like this.

Ok. But I would like to have everyone talk about shows they watched when they were little.

But then you just post on the old topic and get people talking again. Or you could find the old topic and read through that as well. And then post your part and stories.

On the old forum we had topics like this but we don't anymore.  This topic is fine now.  But in general, we've mostly discussed this in other topics.

Oh and Death Blossom said that many of the shows I watched when I was little were late 90s and 2000s cartoons. Well that is because I was a kid born in the late 90s. I was born in 1998.

90's kids are kids who grew up in the 90's. Not born in them. Unfortunately ;)

Everything Saturday morning related in the 90's for me. :D I didn't have cable, just public TV-- so we're talking Doug, Darkwing Duck, TaleSpin, Gargoyles, Goof Troop, Pepper Ann, Winnie the Pooh (catchy theme song is catchy)

FOX Kids on Channel 2 for me, too, WB20-- Batman the Animated Series, early Pokemon episodes, Animaniacs, the 90's Casper cartoon (huge fan), to name a few.

Once 4KidsTV kinda stepped in I kinda lost interest, but the memories will be there at least, haha.

I feel old...
You feel old? I've got a lot of '80-era Filmation on my list... I was in my teens when the animation Renaissance of the nineties began and a fledgling network called Nickelodeon broke on the scene with shows like Doug, Weinerville, You Can't Do That On Television,Clarissa Explains it All, Roundhouse, and of course that godfather of gross-out 'toons, Ren and Stimpy.  On that last note, I was also there for John K.'s two failed earlier revivals of Mighty Mouse and Beany & Cecil, both victims of poor ratings and slashed budgets.

I remember early Nickelodeon.  Doug was always a favorite of mine and I didn't like Doug when it moved to Disney.

So it is easy to bash Canadian animated cartoons because so many stink... but here are two shows I was recently reminded of that I didn't actually care for growing up, but watching them again has brought back so many memories.  Especially THIS (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=50lvO-3Gq18) soundtrack from one of the shows.

These shows weren't dirty or vulgar in anyway and very simple and easy, even at times maybe boring.  But they pure and simple.  They are Little Bear and Franklin.  I remember them on Nickelodeon in the mornings.

Now that's a soundtrack I'd love to own in a collection. :D

I don't know if many people have seen it, but there was a claymation version of Wind in the Willows that sometimes aired on PBS many, many moons ago. I have it on DVD now; it's from the same studio as Danger Mouse, as we knew it then and possibly today.

Garish as it looks, it's got an all-star cast. :D Plus I love stop-motion animation like that, so..

.... I think I somehow vaguely remember that deep within the crevices of my mind.

Especially THIS (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=50lvO-3Gq18) soundtrack from one of the shows.

No doubt.  It was excellent and not so harsh and unrelenting like the many shows of today.

I used to watch this religiously alongside the 90's Casper cartoon. FOX Kids was truly a great Saturday morning block. This show even got me into Mozart, who's work was inspired by this introduction.

The PBS game show version too was really good. If this made my morning great, the PBS game show version made my late afternoon awesome.

Well, I'd hope not. It aired on Spike TV after hours, along with Gary the Rat and the attempted Ren and Stimpy revival  Adult Party Cartoon.

Reminds me so much of my dad.

Perhaps no surprise, the network's animation block was killed shortly thereafter    >>().

It was a fiasco all around... they gave John Kricfalusi carte blanche, and he turned in a half-a dozen cartoons which ran the gamut from passable to downright horrific, suffering from uneven pacing and bizarre, disjointed jokes that rang more weird than funny.  I think the big problem was a new creative team and not having guys like longtime collaborator Bob Camp to reign in some of Kricfalusi's more incomprehensible flights of fancy. Only three of the new episodes ever made it to the air, plus an encore of the original "Fire Dogs" and the rarely seen "Man's Best Friend".

That said, my brother and I grew up on the classic R&S shorts, and this one was one of our favs.
We used to perform the whole scene where the boys first meet Wllbur Cobb verbatim.  "...Walter Lantz! That no-account son of a... bus driver!!" I'd play Cobb; he'd do Stimpy.  It was a riot.

Classic R&S is decent to downright bizarre and good.  It truly varies and it depends on your humor type.

More Kricfalusi series concepts: The Heartaches (http://johnkstuff.blogspot.com/2010/05/heartaches-7-retracting-mystic-eye.html)
...I hope to God he meant "peas".    :-]

Surprisingly, a lot of these unused ideas are quite well-done and workable.  Given John K.'s damaged reputation and his desperation to sell something, I bet some enterprising writer/producer could have 'em for a song. They'd just have to keep his name off it and pay him under the table.

I watched some R&S growing up, but it wasn't entirely my thing.  I actually liked it more during my edgier period in life.

The final episode of Arthur premiered February 2022.  PBS put the episode up.  Final episode after how many years?  A lot.
