Having just watched McCarthy fall short by one vote....

It's not bad I'd argue, @Grapefoot.  It's good to see democracy at work and people not all just agree with the first thing given to them.  It allows for the flow of different viewpoints and opinions.  So this is perfectly healthy despite what you see online and the media.

McCarthy is now officially the speaker.  They voted him in this morning at 1am Eastern time.


President Joe Biden is going to the disastrous border for the first time in his Presidency.  The person whom he gave control to fix the border, Kamala Harris, hasn't visited the border yet and hasn't even worked on it.

For all of Biden's international travel over his 50 years in public service, Biden has not spent much time at the U.S.-Mexico border. The only visit that the White House could point to was Biden's drive by the border while he was campaigning for president in 2008. He sent Vice President Kamala Harris to El Paso in 2021, but she was criticized for largely bypassing the action, because at the time, El Paso wasn't the center of crossings that it is now.

President Barack Obama made a 2011 trip to El Paso, where he toured border operations and the Paso Del Norte international bridge, but he was later criticized for not going back as tens of thousands of unaccompanied minors crossed into the U.S. from Mexico.   The Obama Administration also separated children from their families and literally held people in cells. (They would freely walk out of course)

President Trump, who made hardening immigration a signature issue, traveled to the border several times. During one visit, he crammed into a small border station to inspect cash and drugs confiscated by agents. During a trip to McAllen, Texas, then the center of a growing crisis, he made one of his most-often repeated claims, that Mexico would pay to build a border wall.  They did to a degree, but overall it was from moving funds around.

The numbers of migrants crossing the U.S.-Mexico border has risen dramatically during Biden’s first two years in office. There were more than 2.38 million stops during the year that ended Sept. 30, the first time the number topped 2 million. The administration has struggled to clamp down on crossings, reluctant to take hard-line measures that would resemble those of former President Donald Trump's administration.

Democrats don't care about this.  They went nuts when President Trump declassified his documents, but now the same thing (in a worse set up) is happening to Biden and it's no big deal to them.

So this story gets even worse from yesterday! Now classified documents have been found in Biden's home garage.  We are also learning the DOJ knew about these classified documents right after they raided Trump's house, but didn't tell the public about Biden's classified documents or do anything in terms of a raid.  The double standard and swamp is thick with this one.  They will try to destroy Republican's and have block to block media coverage against Trump, but next to nothing and no penalty for Biden or when the Democrats do the same thing, but actually worse.  How people are still blind to this is shocking.

The Navy shot down the balloon... after it flew across the entire country and China got all the info they wanted and to see how poorly we'd respond to it.  Wow, the Biden Admin is truly doing everything wrong.  It's shockingly sad.  This balloon also flew through the entirety of Canada and Alaska as it flew into Montana.  How did Canada not notice it?  How did NORAD not see it?  Did they see it and just choose not to say anything?  Seems like something the Biden Admin would do.  "What the American people don't know won't hurt them...."  That's probably the Biden MO.

I remain convinced that if I live long enough, every time I hear a weird story on the news, I will be able to say, "Feh, I wrote something that x years ago."  I expected it, however, to be when I'm, like seventy or eighty--not just shy of 48. 

My story was about a town invaded by an army of mysterious alien balloons, and if, in the course of their spy missions they were observed or threatened, they burst, releasing a cloud of sleep-gas.  Thanks to Joe Biden we live in a cartoon now, folks.
