So hear me out here, but if you think of it, the PSF community has been through a ton! So far we've always come out good though.
So think of this, PSF's community started in other communities as small groups. There was a group from MLPChan/PonyChan, and there were some at SneezeFurs and DeviantArt. It was the group at Sneezefurs, led by Smiles2us, that got PSF 1.0 going. The group at the chans were known for being kind, caring, and civil, and people just left them alone. They thrived off the pony sneeze art that came from artists like MasterXtreme from DeviantArt.
Due to the the wishes of the SneezeFurs admin, their dislike for MLP:FiM, they forced MLP off their site. That turned into a blessing and they did try to help support the new forum and give it equal time to move. So PSF 1.0 was created with Proboards and somehow, all the people from DeviantArt and the chans moved over. In no time everyone enjoyed a wondrous time at PSF. There were some rough patches in dealing with a member or two, but overall it was peaceful and happy for about a year.
Then right at Christmas time, 2015, Proboards pulled a unwarranted move and shut down PSF. Right at the peak of their Christmas celebrations. The site had a community of 140 people are some 30,000 posts. The site was shut down. Darrin and Smiles2us worked to try and get the site back to no avail.
Meanwhile what was left of a shattered community moved to another Proboards site (ha ha, kinda dumb move if we look back on it) and created PSF 2 which was to be temporary. Darrin and Smiles2us found Yasl, or something like that, and they went to work on a new site, and $400 dollars later, they go us an SMF site. We somehow all moved to that after a turbulent month long wait which seemed like forever.
Now here we are. Let us pray to God that this is the end of our struggles and hardship. Everything works nicely and looks great, and many hours/money have been put into this community which continues to grow. I just wanted to share a brief PSF history to people old and new. If you know more I didn't share, please share what you know.
Here's to many, many years of success!

140k?
Damn I didn't know it was that big.
When did the forum start?
(Also I THINK Yasl found Darrin and Smiles, not sure.)
-
140k?
Damn I didn't know it was that big.
Haha, yeah, pretty sure that should be 140.
I'm just a long-time lurker.
-
The community for our fetish IS pretty damned big despite us being not very well known about.
-
Such a touching and grueling history, heh heh.
But yeah, the PSF community has gone through a lot. But we've shown the strong ties our community has by sticking together.
-
He meant 140 members. This is a pretty accurate, and Yasl found us.
-
That is a lot actually. Dang.
-
Wouldn't trade it for the world. All it did was make us stronger.
Just hope it's done for now. ;)
-
We went through a lot. I feel we are a tighter knit group because of that.
-
What doesn't kill us makes us stronger

"Stand a little taller"

Doesn't mean I'm lonely when I'm alone
-
That's a good song. Listen to it when I exercise XP
-
Its too catchy
-
True, I like Kelly Clarkson's songs. They usually have a nice message, along with being catchy as hell.
-
Before this topic gets too off on a tangent ;), I want to say it is really interesting how much has happened. It just proves to me how much people care about each other, not just sneezes in general. :)
-
Yeah, I saw that a lot on PSF 1.0. Like I remember when Blurr was going through a rough path, we all tried to encourage him and lift his spirits. It was nice to see.
-
Yeah....how could we forget that. XP
-
Heh, yeah.
But it's nice how we all care about each other and stuff :)
-
Man, being a later lurker I didn't know how many members you guys had on the old site. Sounds like it was full of good times.. But hey! At least we're building the community up again. It's awesome that soo many members, old and new are finding this place :)
-
It really is.
I think the old forum had about 140 users. Probably 20 or so that were actually active and commented.
-
OOh, so you guys are adding the lurkers too then? Yeah, that makes sense
-
What?
Well, we just had a total count, you know.
-
We had a lot of lurkers. Some did comment like...twice. But when seeing how broad our reach was, it was amazing. We had at least one member from every single continent. I thought that was pretty cool. We had two from Africa, which isn't something most sites can say they have.
-
wow, really? Yeah, I knew a ton of guests logged on everyday but i didn't know it added up to that many!
-
Indeed the lurker to member ratio was in favor of the lurkers for quite some time.
-
But then the site was made where only member could see certain content.
-
Yall did that so more members could join, right?
-
Isn't weird, there is always something going on that is drama inducing. Right now we got the cereal Derpibooru POOPER!
-
the cereal Derpibooru POOPER!
...this name... :o
-
The Cereal Derpibooru Pooper seems like something we can remember this moment by. It would go down in our history as such.
"The Great Day of the Cereal Derpibooru Pooper!"
-
Haha, my god, you guys XD
-
the cereal Derpibooru POOPER!
...this name... :o
So... the suggestion is that they pooped in our collective cornflakes?
-
........i aint eatin that
-
And pissed in them.
what a monster XD
-
the cereal Derpibooru POOPER!
...this name... :o
So... the suggestion is that they pooped in our collective cornflakes?
Those were my cornflakes! Mine!
-
I can't help but get a hint of satire in the first topic post, by Grapefoot. Yes, all this is true, but there seems to be a twinge of humor to all this.
-
those poor flakes
-
Just a twinge, perhaps XP
It's worded to sound like a fantastic epic. So yeah, I think perhaps so ;)
-
I can see it on movie theater posters now
-
the cereal Derpibooru POOPER!
...this name... :o
So... the suggestion is that they pooped in our collective cornflakes?
...n-no... just... no.
XD
-
I love the word, "Twinge."
-
There may have been a twinge, but for the most part it was just sharing our journey.
Yes, we may over react sometimes, but that is part of the journey
I like to say we are all floaters in the toilet bowl of life.
-
What has this convo turned into?
-
What has this convo turned into?
A pooper. A cereal Derpibooru pooper. That's what. XD
-
I aint cleaning that toilet
-
I ain't either! Uh... so who will?
-
*tosses plunger in the middle of the room* Not it
-
*gets it and tosses it back* But I insist! :P

GUYS!

There's a way to avoid this?
All right. 8)
-
Yes!
Go the previous page on this thread and scroll to the bottom. You guys might not have seen it because when I posted Blurr also did so it went to the next page.
-
*Walks into the room and see's what is happening.*
Nope.
*Walks out.*

Yes!

I saw it, but was too distracted by the incredibly strange conversation to notice. :-[
-
How did you make the image smaller?
-
So....
https://derpicdn.net/img/2016/1/31/1077007/large .png
There's the original link. Where it says large, I replaced it with medium. And it worked!
-
Really? I wonder if that can work with non-derpibooru stuff?
-
Hmm, who knows. But now we know we can make that Cheerilee pic smaller so it fits.
-
That's true. :) Nice sleuth work.
-
Huh, well how about that
-
You might maybe be able to limit width with:
[img width=200]http://example.org/image.png[/img]
Though I've not tested it yet.
-
Hmm, cool!
-
Interesting....
-
We'll have to test it out

Five years, almost six years after the PSF transition from 1.0 to 2.0.... We've sort of had another transition.
So in a quick little recap...
About a month ago our host provider came to us saying our site was taking up too many resources despite us using about 1% of our allotted resources. The issue was, our site had these things called "faults" which happened for maybe .001 second at a time, roughly four times a day. When these faults happened, our site's resources spiked and hit our given allotment, despite us 99.99% of the time using 1% of our allotted resource usage.
Over the course of a month I communicated with our host, who was very patient as we tried updated the site, getting things to run smoother, etc. But we could never rid of the faults. We reached out to the community, had a few bites, but no one was able to truly help.
Finally on December 6th, we were given the ultimatum. We have to upgrade to a bigger and more expensive server of our own, or risk being shut down due to these faults. So there we were... we had to upgrade. But the problem was the upgrade was SUPER expensive. $466 for 3 years or service compared to our old 5 year plan for $400. Not only that, the total would come to about $550 due to our various add-ons for security and privacy.
When in our most desperate time of need, our PSF community came together from some unlikely and unexpected members, as well as our traditional "regulars." Both Smiles and I were totally shocked when we came back the next day and saw our PayPal stocked with cash to pay for this upgrade. That same day, we contacted the host, said "let's negotiate a bit more..." we did, and we even got a nice discount (which they said no to all the way until the very stinking end!! Ugh!). It was truly another example of the resilience and community we have here that pushed PSF into another chapter of it's life! Thanks to them and you, PSF has transferred from a shared server to it's own server system with a whole host of new features of us to explore and a direct help line to our host for help when we need it. We now have so much hosting power and resources, I don't even really know what to say. Our goal is to try and do good for our members and maybe host more things for our community.
So I would say this is the start of PSF 3.0. Do you think it is? This happened right around Christmas... Smiles told me holding back tears in her voice that is was a Christmas Miracle. I think that certainly applies here.
Thank you PSF community!
-
I think it's safe to call this the start of PSF 3.0. It is a significant change for the site, even if visually it isn't.
-
I'm so glad everything worked out in the end! Such a rocky road it clearly has been, hopefully now there will be some smooth sailing in the future.
I havent even been here for full year and suddenly it's in the verge of extinction, but i'm happy to see there are people ready to help out big time and it's very nice to see determined admins ready to battle for the safe place of the whole community!
Big thank you to you all!
-
I'm just glad it all worked out in the end, while I may not be that active on the site, I still enjoy visiting the site and chatting with everybody here!
Now we can have a Merry Freaking Christmas!!!
-
It has been a rollercoaster and quite emotionally too.
Now we can have a Merry Freaking Christmas!!!
Okay. It's time for the Merry Freaking Christmas!!! [excited] [excited] [excited] [excited]

*puts on Merry F***in Christmas from South Park

I read most of this entire topic. I never fully knew the whole story. The topic devolved into a lot of nothing sadly, but I really would love to hear more about the early days from members if they have the time to share.
-
I wasn't here the first day of the new site here, but I was pretty close. I was a guest over at PSF 1.0. Back then guests could post without having to make an account.
