Title: Playstation Gaming
Post by: RainySunshine on 2016-02-06 11:36:50
Playstation Gaming

Welcome to the Playstation Gaming Discussion topic.  This is for all things Playstation, from consoles to handhelds!  Let us discuss the most successful console of all time and our wild assortment of games!  From the original Playstation to the current!

And here we are.

Lets see.  I have the original Playstation, the fantastic Playstation 2, the Playstation 3, and now the Playstation 4.  My oh my.  I guess that means I am a Playstation user!  I honestly don't play that much.

The last game I got was Just Cause 3.

Post by: RainySunshine on 2016-02-06 11:47:27
Okay, Just Cause 3 was a good game.  Everyone dissed it for issues with loading, but I never ever had those issues on the PS4.  I know the PC and Xbox had issues.

I think it was a good game, but after completing it, it just had nothing to do.  Yes you can let the military take over areas again, but it just...it just was lacking something after that was all done.  I also wanted a better ending that was more satisfying.  Characters were fun, and the overall pacing and how it didn't take itself too seriously was great.  The world looked great and I loved finding small villages.  I wish the northern portion of the map was filled with towns instead of burned down ones due to the government.

I totally agree. Luckily there is 3 known DLC's (http://www.christianpost.com/news/just-cause-3-dlc-first-of-3-expansions-almost-complete-155308/) coming for it.   Tehy are almost done with the first one.  It is supposed to possibly continue there story and add more depth.    To me that would be an added bonus.  I want more closure.

Everything for them oat part was improved from Just Cause 2.  I still love that game though.

Did you get GTA V for the next gen console?  I bought it on my PS3 when it came out.
Title: Re: Playstation Gaming
Post by: RainySunshine on 2016-02-06 11:50:51
I bought it for the computer.  I wanted to mod it and get the new police updates, like they did in GTA IV.
Title: Re: Playstation Gaming
Post by: MasterXtreme on 2016-02-06 11:51:26
Fair enough.  I still play it on the PS3.  Still one of the best games, and Rockstar has given so much away for free.  Like 30 some updates with free cars, guns, new gameplay.  It is ridiculous.
Title: Re: Playstation Gaming
Post by: RainySunshine on 2016-02-06 11:51:51
Rockstar has sold over a million copies of GTA every month since it's re-release in next gen.
Title: Re: Playstation Gaming
Post by: MasterXtreme on 2016-02-06 11:52:34
I remember they broke records, making a $$$ billion dollars within 24 hours of the original GTA V release in 2013.  And since then, I think they have sold more games then any other game of all time.  If not, very close in a short amount of time.
Title: Re: Playstation Gaming
Post by: RainySunshine on 2016-02-06 11:52:46
You are right.  It was truly a marvel game, and still one of the best of all time.
Title: Re: Playstation Gaming
Post by: MasterXtreme on 2016-02-06 11:53:04
We need to get APD to start up his best games of all time list again.  I was really thinking about that.
Title: Re: Playstation Gaming
Post by: RainySunshine on 2016-02-06 11:53:20
It would be a good idea.  There are some true gems like, GTA V that would get in.
Title: Re: Playstation Gaming
Post by: MasterXtreme on 2016-02-06 11:53:34
Sadly, Just Cause 3 doesn't make the cut. ;)
Title: Re: Playstation Gaming

Yeah, no it does not.
Title: Re: Playstation Gaming
Post by: MasterXtreme on 2016-02-06 11:54:18
There are a ton of Playstation games and Sony exclusives that would get on that list.  The list seems endless.
Title: Re: Playstation Gaming
Post by: RainySunshine on 2016-02-06 11:54:56
Well, Sony was revolutionary.  Especially with Blu Ray and allowing online play and internet access.  The PS2 I would argue is the best console system to have ever been created.
Title: Re: Playstation Gaming
Post by: MasterXtreme on 2016-02-06 11:55:26
I would probably have to agree.  So easy to just plug in, play.  Grab any CD, no install times, just throw it in and play.  My PS2 still works.  It was an original.
Title: Re: Playstation Gaming
Post by: RainySunshine on 2016-02-06 11:55:33
That is pretty awesome!  Mine works too.

So is the PS4 better in your guys opinion to the PS3? I would have to say yes. The PS3 was good but not as quick and streamline in my opinion as the PS4. I loved the PS2.

Post by: Miggs on 2016-02-06 14:13:36
I never owned a PS3. I only had a 2 and 4. I'm still salty over Silent Hills getting cancelled.

The Ps2 was one of my fave consoles to grow up with. The Ace Combat and Jak games kept me entertained for years

I'm still pretty big on the Kingdom Hearts games....even though the story is the most stupid thing ever.

I never played Kingdom Hearts
Title: Re: Playstation Gaming

They're fun, but the story gets so stupidly complex in the later games.

The story has nothing to do with Disney, actually. I mean the actual game story.

I've played SotC, Rainy. It's really good.

It's so good. Except for the...eighth... I think Eighth Colossus....it's a piece of shit and I hate it.
(Eighth or tenth... it like...rams you...and doesn't stop. There's another one like it, but I always found it easier.)
Title: Re: Playstation Gaming

I always played it at a friends house. I never owned it myself.

It isn't probably the most exciting game, but it sure seems compelling with the voice acting and the deeper story that comes the more as you play.  You create relationships, and the fact you can do it without even seeing the person yo hare talking to is pretty fascinating.  I do plan on buying this.

Here are the first 17 minutes.

Good stories are always a good thing in games.

the Souls series
Fallout

Metal Gear Solid has a good story and great cinematics.  Those alone are like 20 hours in the game.  But it is sure as heck confusing with tons of backstory you won't ever get.  I don't think they even get it.

Oh, uh, I'm gonna put this here, cuz this is a PS4 game.

I like to call this video "From Software Triggers Me".

You guys know trypophobia right? I don't think I have it, but that crap still unnerves me to no end. And uh... barnacles do the same... which this entire level is covered in.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/93hmcfqy6b77sm5/VID_20160320_014919_958.mp4?dl=0
Pardon the potato quality.

What even is the Division? I know it's multiplayer but I never like... it never peaked my interest or curiosity.
Title: Re: Playstation Gaming
Post by: Darrin on 2016-03-21 18:32:59
Trypophobia is a claimed pathological fear of holes, particularly irregular patterns of holes.

Nice potato filming.  ;)  I thought all those "barnacles" were skulls.  I was gonna say those kind of areas creep me out.  Lol!  No, they are barnacles?  What game is that?
Title: Re: Playstation Gaming
Post by: Miggs on 2016-03-21 18:45:53
They are indeed barnacles, yes. The game is Bloodborne in the last area of the DLC "The Old Hunters".

They're EVERYWHERE in that part of the level. So nasty. ; ;

PS4.5.  It might be a special system that costs more.  So you would have two choices.  The base PS4 then a fancy crazy high def one for 4k.  Kinda sucks for the people who bought the original.  Though games would come for both, with the option for the 4k if you want.
Title: Re: Playstation Gaming
Post by: Blurr on 2016-03-30 19:36:02
I don't really give a crap about 4k. As long as I can play the games that are put out, I'm content. Hell I'm surprised they didn't just create an add on device for the original ps4

Don't care about 4k or curved tv's.  Until that stuff is cheap and everyday use, I don't care.  I will stick with what I have.

I still have a VHS players and cassette player!

Dayum, now THAT's some old shit. But I agree. I barely got my Ps4 last year, so why bother. Besides, if it's just for like... better quality for certain tvs or something, I really do not care. Kinda why I'm not the biggest PC gamer.

"Oh spend a bunch of money so the game could look a bit nicer and have twice as many frames"
As much as 120 frames+ seems badass, I personally do not mind 30-60fps

I hope it doesn't though.  I also fear it will force you to be online all the time.
Title: Re: Playstation Gaming

I think it will be all online.

When you buy an all online game, then the company stops it's servers, you are left with a disc and a box that is meaningless, and memories of playing a game you once enjoyed but can never play again.
Title: Re: Playstation Gaming
Post by: RainySunshine on 2016-04-15 05:17:42
I hope that isn't the case.  It would be sad.  All those hours put into something by the debs and gamers, just to have it lost.
Title: Re: Playstation Gaming
Post by: Darrin on 2016-04-15 05:18:24
I've also got a feeling this game will be a flop and garner reviews in the 5.8 to 6.8 range.  They will say it has no linear driven story and gets boring fast.
Title: Re: Playstation Gaming

Love the car choices in GT, but they really need to fine tune everything including the car sound.

The PS3 stopped getting updates because it started getting to the point it couldn't carry or handle everything in the new updates.

I'm sure the PS3 could, but that was the excuse for Rockstar to use to stop updating the PS3 version.

Way easier to use on the console... but I will sadly admit, I liked it better on the computer when I actually played it. :-/  It was so much crisper and I could do so much more with mods and various things.  Because we all need to play a game that allows us to ride shopping carts.

Haven't played a Battlefield game since the first and second on the PS2.

Just saw the Battlefield 1 Trailer, and it actually seems like something that will interest me if they do it right.  I don't care about multiplayer, so hopefully it has a good story.  The game takes places in WWI.

I miss games like the original Medal of Honor games on the PS1 when they were in WWII.

I actually very much enjoy it. After I played it for a bit I went on the net and watched all the cinematic trailers trying to get the best grasp I can on the story and lore for this world. It actually grabbed me a lot more than I thought it would. But that does make me have a problem with the game. It's strictly just an online multiplayer game. A game with this many characters and this deep a backstory SHOULD have a single player story/campaign mode.
Title: Re: Playstation Gaming
Post by: Rainberry on 2016-06-03 13:14:20
Something I dislike about modern games is how many rely on  online only and no stories. It is a shame because sometimes you want to just play by yourself or with a friend on the couch.
Title: Re: Playstation Gaming
Post by: Blurr on 2016-06-03 13:31:55
I KNOW RIGHT?! I grew up on those kinds of games! Jak and Daxter, Sonic the Hedgehog, Mario, Ace Combat. There wasn't any online play and sometimes the games seemed repetitive but the level progression is something I always loved because each new level brought something new and challenging into the equation. With worldwide online play its the same thing over and over. Team up with a group of random people, kill the other team. After a while it gets so boring. What keeps Overwatch alive is that it has a huge variety of 21 characters to pick and choose from each one with their own unique abilities and weapons.
Title: Re: Playstation Gaming

I HATE with a passion how games don't allow me to hand over my second/third/nineteenth controller over to a friend so we can party on same games!  Why don't they make that anymore?  I can't always get friends online or I can't get a friend to buy a game to play with me online.  We just wanna plunk down, and PLAY THE GAME on the same tv screen!

The ones that interested me were The Last Guardian, Horizon Zero Dawn, and Death Stranding. I gotta say they all look interesting. And it's real nice to hear about the Last Guardian. I heard it got stuck in development hell or something, and was first shown off many years ago. But it's good to hear of it again.

Horizon looks interesting with a sort of mix of (for lack of a better term) native hunting with futuristic dinosaur-like creatures.

And Death Stranding is from Hideo Kojima.... so... yeah. That's something to look forward to. Since you know, Silent Hills got CANCELLED (still salty over that). Also I kinda just wanna say that where the trailer took place reminded me a lot of the final boss arena of BloodBorne's DLC, heheh.
Title: Re: Playstation Gaming
Post by: Anyponedrawn on 2016-06-14 12:09:27
Hideo Kojima always has to have naked men in his stuff..................... but yeah, it does look interesting so far.  I wanna know what it's about.

I do want Grand Turismo Sport, because I want to drive around and do car stuff in a simulator.  Detroit looks compelling.  I want to know more about it.  Visually it looks beautiful, and it looks like you will have amazingly tough choices in probably a great story.  The Last Guardian is at the top of my list right now.  God of War.... Maybe?

Sony confirmed they will make HD versions of Crash Bandicoot 1, 2, and Warped for the PS4.

As for Watch Dogs 2, I honestly enjoyed the first one. Like... it could have been loads better. And although I never finished it, I did enjoy it. And from what I've seen of this new one, it looks better, both gameplay wise and visually. Also I just wanna say that the character "Wrench" has a badass mask.

I finally just finished the Witcher III today.  I loved the main story (Wild Hunt) so much, I just bought both expansions for $24.  Supposed to add over 40hrs of new gameplay and a new map to explore.  I am really excited and can't wait.

I almost bought No Man's Sky today, but decided to spend my money on the Witcher.  NMS will be a great game I am sure, but I will wait for the price to go down.

Lot of people got leaked versions of the game that wasn't complete.

A day one patch was released today that completely changed the game from the version people were playing and streaming days before the release.

I plan to buy it eventually.

No Man's Sky is getting mixed reviews.  Though it is to be said that many agree, some people will absolutely love this game for a very long time, while others just aren't wired for this kind of game.  So it is hard to rank properly.

And I can understand that.  Just like I know people who would say Minecraft is one of the greatest games of all time because you can always go back to it, and others who just don't like it.  Some less creative people don't like it. ;)  Heheh, but they even would agree it is a major game to be recognized.

My friend made us watch as he played.
He kinda ruined it by pausing every so often to just gush about the game and say how Far ahead of its time it was and how emotional it was and oh my God look at these shadow effects!
It's like, okay dude, calm down. Play the game. It's what I'm here to watch, not you orgasm over the games graphics.

But yeah, interesting take on zombies.

If I had a PlayStation I'd probably get it. I like zombie games. Along with Bully, if they ever made it for the newer play stations. And the Collosas game where you kill giant stone monsters. Only problem would be getting one, doubt my parents would get me one for Christmas. They got my sister an Xbox, but she's young. I feel they'd think it's weird I'm asking for one when I'm so "old".

I have been wanting Rockstar to make a Bully 2 for so long.  I've never played a game with familiar GTA style, yet be so different.  It was fun playing as a kid and made you feel devious.  Even seeing the same characters, being that they were actually characters was cool.  It would be cool to redo that game with all our modern tech and be able to make your own friends and interact with them in diff ways to make or break friendships, etc. :D

Bully was the first game I played on PlayStation, I could barely use the controls well but God was it fun. Just so fun to be so mean and devious. I would love to see this with improved graphics, because even then, from my memory, it was kind of gritty.

Shadow of the Colossus, one of the few games I'm actually good at lol. Even then, I'm still frustratingly bad for my friends XD

Bully was astounding for the time period.  Think of the first time you stepped into a 3D world in GTA....  it was like that.  Earth shattering and super fun.

Other games Rockstar have made have all been amazing in their own right.  Red Dead Redemption and the entire GTA series.

If I saw that, playing as like a cop online in GTA, I would be worried some other players would like ambush me.  It looks like you are in a remote area.

It also sounds like you play in a cool server with people who actually play by rules and regulations.  Very interesting scene.

If I was all alone, like the only cop on patrol in GTA and I saw that... I would probably be freaked out.  I know where you are in that scene, and you are a good ways from the nearest town.  I'd hop in my car and quickly drive off (knowing someone was probably waiting to ambush me).

I got to test play Mafia III for about 4 hours.  It was good-ish.  It just lacked.  The story line is good and the cinematics and voice acting it great, but the graphics outside of those isn't super.  The gameplay is... alright.  The city is nice, but seems pretty un-alive.  It was a good enough game, but I wouldn't buy at full price unless you are a Mafia franchise fan.  It is probably one of the best of the three Mafia games, right up there with II.

No one can really capture the magic that Rockstar does in their open worlds.

Rockstar has revealed the title of the newest game in the Red Dead series, Red Dead Redemption 2, which will be released in Fall 2017. A trailer will be released on Thursday.

A post on Rockstar's Newswire website says he game will be, "an epic tale of life in America’s unforgiving heartland, the game's vast and atmospheric world will also provide the foundation for a brand new online multiplayer experience."

That multiplayer experience will most likely be Red Dead Online, the name of which appeared to leak this morning.

Red Dead Redemption 2's first trailer will arrive this Thursday, October 20, at 8am Pacific / 11am Eastern.

From the little shown in this game so far, it looks beautiful.  It looks like it will have a varied landscape ranging from grasslands to conifer forests and snow capped peaks.  I am really excited.  Even in these early scenes, it looks so alive and beautiful.  I'm thinking the location will be similar to the Eastern Rockies.

I watched the live broadcast of the trailer this morning.  I am really jazzed about this. :)  I'm listening to the original RDR soundtrack right now.  I just don't want to wait a year!

I would highly recommend playing RDR from beginning to end, Miggs.  If you like the open worlds that Rockstar has made with GTA's, RDR is completely different, yet sort of familiar.  There are no buildings and skyscrapers blocking you to the open world of New Austin, West Elizabeth, and a northern chunk of Mexico.

Someone parked their nice SUV and went into a store, I walked over, broke their window and slid in, then drove off to a repair shopped, fixed the window, drove to a different ship, and sold the SUV for a good chunk of change.

Last time I was GTA, My friends and I went out to sea, and we had collected bits of a treasure map type thing.  One of our friends owned that submersible and we took turns going under the water trying to find treasure.  We found some in a rusted out ship, but it required another friend in Scuba gear to go down there and get it.

Wanted to share this pic real quick!  Had an amazing dogfight tonight!

I was against 3 other guys and had one ally.  We took down two, then my ally was taken down enough that he had to land or pretty much face certain death.  So he limped home and I had this awesome ten minute intense dog fight with some dude.  They were excellent, and in the end, we both agreed to end it and not kill each other.  I was impressed by his flying skills and he was with mine.  It was a cool experience.  I then checked back on the fight and got some cool images.

I am thinking of Watch Dogs 2.  I like open world games, but nothing has beat GTA V.  I also don't like the characters so far shown in Watch Dogs 2.  They all seem they are forcibly "cool" and say stupid things, like how no one actually talks.

Dishonored 2 looks good.  It got good to decent ratings.  Same with Watch Dogs 2.  My game list is starting to pile up...

I got Dishonored 2 a bit ago. Not gonna play it till a bit later, but I'll tell yall my thoughts.

It was between that and WatchDogs 2, but I've been waiting for Dishonored 2 for a long while, so I'll prob get WD2 some other time.

Don't get WD2 unless you have played GTA V.  If you haven't played GTA V, you have NO RIGHT to play other open world games. ;)

Let us know how Dishonored is.

Title: Re: Playstation Gaming
Post by: Miggs on 2016-11-19 23:43:57
I'm god awful at stealth games, Dishonored being no exception.

But from what I've played, it is very much similar to the first game (in terms of how it plays). Some may say that that's bad, others good, I personally think it's just right, because the first game was a joy to play.

In terms of graphics and such, there's a few like... a bit of things clipping here and there, maybe a bit of flickers in certain textures? Very minor stuff, the game itself is very nice looking (imo).

So, if you liked the first game, I personally think you'll like the second. So far from the 2-3 hours or so I've played, I've had fun.

Playstation fans rejoice.  A lot of big news today.

First of all, 3 classic Crash Bandicoot (http://www.ign.com/videos/2016/12/03/crash-bandicoot-n-sane-trilogy-reveal-trailer) games are being remastered for the Playstation 4 and will be revealed using the name, "CRASH BANDICOOT: N. SANE TRILOGY ."  It will come in 2017.

The hit game, "The Last of Us," will be having a new game called, "Part 2 (http://www.ign.com/articles/2016/12/03/psx-2016-the-last-of-us-part-2-announced?read)."  This is one of the most critically acclaimed games of recent memory alongside other mega hits like Grand Theft Auto V.

Nathan Drake's journey is over in Uncharted... but not the females in the series.  Uncharted: The Lost Legacy," (http://www.ign.com/articles/2016/12/03/psx-2016-new-uncharted-story-announced?read) has been announced and will feature female portages.  This will compete directly with the Tomb Raider games that use Lara Croft as the protagonist.

All of these are Playstation exclusives, and they are all major developments coming from Naughty Dog.

If you guys didn't play Crash Bandicoot on the PS1, then you have never REALLY played the game.  The classics were great, but after the PS1, they tried to expand to other things, and those got horrible reviews, to the point that Naughty Dog scrapped Crash Bandicoot all together.

So the fact they are redoing the old classics, is very exciting.  I would definitely give it a try if you like classic games where you have to beat levels and bosses.  What made Crash unique is that it wasn't a side scrolling 2D level beater either.

PLAYSTATION 5 REVEAL IN 2018?

According to Macquarie Research analyst Damian Thong (http://blogs.barrons.com/asiastocks/2017/03/05/how-sony-can-double-its-profit-this-year/?mod=yahoobarrons&ru=yahoo&yptr=yahoo), Sony is due for continued growth for the remainder of 2017 and throughout 2018. One of the three catalysts will come down to the PlayStation brand, and it’s here that Thong suggests Sony may be planning to unleash the PlayStation 5 as soon as the second half of 2018.

Thong states that PlayStation VR has sold 915,000 units, which in and of itself strongly suggests the VR peripheral may play a vital role in the presentation of the PS5. With Gran Turismo Sport still expected to release sometime this year, there’s little denying that the sales figure will continue to grow.

Even more interesting is the suggestion of a more powerful GPU with peak performance upwards of 10 TFLOPs, or over 2.4x what the PS4 Pro offers. This would place the next generation GPU within striking distance of the Nvidia Titan X GPU at 11 TFLOPs, and while the actual figure is likely to differ in the time before its eventual release, it remains an impressive starting point.

For curious minds, this isn’t the first we’ve heard of Damian’s speculations. Just last year the Macquarie analyst speculated on a slimmer variant of the PS4 (which turned out to be true). The notion of a next generation PlayStation may be a foregone conclusion, but the timetable may be a cause of concern for some, especially with the aforementioned Pro model releasing only late last year.

While two sides of the same coin, the recent release of the Pro places things in a sticky situation, and should the PS5 release late next year it will beckon the question of “why?”, as the recently released uber PS4 has only just begun to find its footing.

Despite the forecast, it bears having to be mentioned that console generations for the PlayStation brand have typically extended to six years before the unveiling of a new model, with the only exception being the PlayStation 3 which stood tall for seven years. The PS4 will be celebrating its fourth birthday later this autumn.

A more likely scenario is Sony will begin teasing the next generation console next year, targeting a 2019 release window thus maintaining the six year time frame.

But of course, take this with a grain of salt.  We know how wrong experts tend to be.

Playstation 4 was released in November 2013, a few days before the Xbox One.

It seems that if this is true, Sony is ready to have shorter generational gaps among consoles to keep up with the growing computer gaming market.  They showed in the PS4 Pro all the upgrades, but most have more to release.

The PS4 is one of the best selling consoles of all time and it seems odd to end that string now, especially since it is now finally drawing in then biggest numbers yet.

I guess we will find out.

Sony will be adding PS4 game streaming to the Playstation 4 via Playstation Now.  You can currently play nearly 400 PS3 games via streaming on the PS4.   (http://www.ign.com/articles/2017/03/13/playstation-now-adds-ps4-gaming-streaming)

PS Now is only $99 bucks a year now, so about $8 a month for unlimited game access.

All PlayStation 4's Gets Bump to 1TB, Prices Stay the Same

Sony has brought the regular PlayStation 4 in for an upgrade. Starting this month, the entry model in the PS4 ecosystem will come with a 1TB hard drive, while the MSRP has held steady at the same $300 price point as the previous 500GB model.

The doubled storage space should be a welcome upgrade for those looking to join the 53+ million existing PS4 owners. The PS4 Pro continues on with the same storage space for $400.

Gamers have more options than ever to increase the storage space on either model. While hard drive swaps are relatively simple with the PS4, the recent 4.50 software update enabled external hard drive support. With modern games requiring more and more space, those that are reluctant to tear apart their new console no longer have to worry.

If you enjoyed, The Witcher game series, you will be saddened to hear that DEV CD PROJECT RED IS NT INVOLVED IN THE NETFLIX TV SERIES (http://www.ign.com/articles/2017/05/17/the-witcher-dev-cd-project-red-not-involved-in-netflix-tv-series) of, The Witcher.

Shame because they did an amazing job adapting the books into truly one of the best games (Witcher III).

UBISOFT TEASES FAR CRY 5

Ubisoft has revealed Far Cry 5 will be set in Hope County, Montana. The location was revealed by way of teaser trailers posted on YouTube. The videos are short and focused on the environment itself, though there's a disturbing element in each one.  A release date has not been announced.  There will be a worldwide reveal on May 26, 2017.

There will be a worldwide reveal on May 26, 2017.  There are unlikely rumors this is a PS4 exclusive, but it is possible that Sony inked a deal for exclusive content.

Ubisoft revealed, Far Cry 5 today including a 2018 February release date.  As well as the announcement trailer, they released many other videos related to the game, and it looks promising as you have to stop a horrible cult from ruining a Montana County.  Still very little revealed about the main enemy.  All we know is that the cult is run by a man claiming that he is "The Father."  Feb 27, 2017.

Need for Speed has a track record of a good game then many poor games.  They don't seem to know what they want to do... and I am getting that vibe again.  They are taking a bit from the game, "The Crew."  If they would simply stick to their formula of cars and police chases without their poor stories, and go back to their roots, I am sure they would have a better go at it.  Know their focus, and stick to it.  Don't change it every other game.

Title: Re: Playstation Gaming
Post by: MasterXtreme on 2017-06-15 16:09:56
This is a big step for the small developer.  I doubt it will be as good as they hope and probably get mixed to panned reviews.  Even the teaser trailer, which is supposed to look great, has some issues with it.  But it is a cool idea if they get it to work.

"An island paradise has been discovered by colonial forces from several distinct nations from fictional lands, but with magic and monsters. You play as a neutral, able to ally yourself with either the nature-loving natives, or any of the nations seeking to exploit the island’s resources.
In the game you, alongside other settlers, mercenaries and treasure hunters, explore a remote island where the locals, who are fighting off invading settlers, are protected by supernatural beings. GreedFall is about combat, but it's also about diplomacy, deception and stealth. Your actions, from seemingly trivial choices to the most important political decisions, will influence and affect its course as well as the relationship between the different factions established on the island." -Greedfall.

Title: Re: Playstation Gaming
Post by: Wolfwood on 2017-06-15 16:11:02
I would have to play the game and hear both sides... but maybe whoever would pay me most. ;)  So probably the competing nations and play them all to make the most buck.

Then of course there is the new Call of Duty going back to their roots as a WWII game.  Does anyone care though?  I guess so... one of the most played game series online still.

Title: Re: Playstation Gaming
Post by: Wolfwood on 2017-06-15 16:14:46
To me, the game I am most excited for is Skull and Bones, if they allow us to go on land too like Assassins Creed: Black Flag.  If we are stuck only on ships with no cities on land to explore, I won't care as much about it.  It also needs a single player story which I hope it has.
Title: Re: Playstation Gaming
Post by: MasterXtreme on 2017-06-15 16:16:39
It will be interesting to see what they are going to do.  I hope it has single player too, as well as exploration of villages and towns you can capture or resupply in.  It is set in the Indian Ocean, so there are certainly islands.
Title: Re: Playstation Gaming
Post by: Wolfwood on 2017-06-15 16:18:08

Title: Re: Playstation Gaming
Post by: MasterXtreme on 2017-06-15 16:18:47
I think that is the case too, which would be a huge shame.  I don't care about fighting other players online.  Sure I would like to have mates also in ships help, but I don't want to fight others players.  I want to fight the computer, not others.

In some ways PC2 is better then PC1.  Way more tracks, more cars, but the graphics sort of took a downturn.  But if you liked PC1, then you will like PC2.

WARNING: Do not buy Gran Turismo Sport if you don't want to be forced to play online all the time.  >:(  Very disappointed.  I am going to give it a week to see I they change stuff, otherwise I am returning it before my coverage ends for returning.  Game itself is really fun, shallow on content, but that always seems to be added.  Great driving physics for realism.

It is really stupid though, because if your internet can't connect to their servers, or their servers are down, you can't race or do anything!  You can't even look at your own cars or take photos in Scapes.

They better fix that.

FUK all these games forcing you to play online.  FUC!  I will wait for a better Gran Turismo product with all the cars back and not forcing me to play online... otherwise I will take my money to another racing franchise.  Maybe Asset Corso... Project Cars.... FORZA 7!
Title: Re: Playstation Gaming
Post by: MasterXtreme on 2017-10-23 14:11:49
It is still a really good game if you like being forced to play online.  No one matches the simulation driving like Gran Turismo still does and the cars are beautiful.  But, it's a deal breaker for me being forced to play online and a lack of single player content.  Don't want to race others online.

The remastered Shadow of the Colossus looks awesome as well!  I am hyped for that!

How horrible it would be to be a resident there and see this happen to your town.  That deputy better go back to the safe zone far away from that part of Hope County.

I've been looking forward to ace combat 7. It's a fighter pilot game series I've enjoyed since the ps2 days. 7 was supposed to come out last year but it was delayed for unknown reasons. Haven't really heard a lot of news about it since.

I used to play Ace Combat on the PS1... I think it was?  And the PS2.  I lost interest in one of them when they took it to a fantasy level which made it kinda dumb.

Sadly I don't think there will be a AC7 anytime soon.  They say 2018, but there is zero evidence of this.

The only other game on the PS4 that's coming right now that I'm looking forward to is the new Spider-Man game. But other than that I kind of feel like the odd man out here because most of my gaming nowadays I do one Nintendo consoles. Like the switch in the 3 DS.

There really isn't any new games that excite me that much.  Back in the grand days of the PS2, it seemed like great games came out every week.  With the new consoles its only a few games a year if I am lucky.

And yes, you are an odd man out playing Nintendo. ;)

Well... there should be a lot of Nintendo people out there.  There playership is rising.  Sony leads by a super large margin followed by Microsoft, but Nintendo has grown a bit and nipped away at Microsoft.

Yeah.  I heard about it.  I remember the original Smash game and the second which I played.  I liked those games, but I just honestly grew out of them.  *Shrugs*  I got tired of the lack of new games and new content.  Always just the same characters and game ideas over and over.  The more mature games got my attention.

I am not bashing on Nintendo, because I still find their games fun.

I've been looking into it.  They say it is jarring from past games.  Not different in the sense that if you've played them before, you will know it all... but there is jarringness in the openess of the world with no real direction.  It's a blast and a lot of fun with things to do, but also a lot of grey areas.  First ever protag you create and even thought you are trying to take down an bad cult, there is a mass gray area since you yourself do a lot of bad things to get there.

Spyro the Dragon remastered trilogy coming to PS4

Source (https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/spyro-the-dragon-remastered-trilogy-coming-to-ps4-xbox-one/ar-AAvvIVS)

Spyro Reignited Trilogy arrives this September

After the commercial success of Crash Bandicoot: N. Sane Trilogy, Activision is bringing back another classic PlayStation-era character: Spyro the Dragon.

Spyro Reignited Trilogy is coming to PlayStation 4 on Sept. 21, Activision announced today. The collection will include the first three games in the series (Spyro the Dragon, Spyro 2: Ripto’s Rage, Spyro: Year of the Dragon) in remastered form. Those three games were original developed by Insomniac Games, which has since moved on to Ratchet and Clank and is developing this year’s Spider-Man for PS4.

Developer Toys for Bob, which created Activision’s Skylanders franchise, is handling remastering duties for the Spyro trilogy.

God of War is a better game overall (but it also depends on your tastes).  I played the first God of War only and it was an intense fighting game.  Up to that point, I had never really played a fighting game, but the scope and sense of scale was amazing at the time.

As you may already know, Sony has not wanted Cross-Platform play. Understandable because it doesn't benefit their bottom line at all.

Game developer Bethesda is becoming very vocal towards Sony (http://www.ign.com/articles/2018/08/14/bethesda-its-absolutely-critical-sony-allows-cross-play-for-the-elder-scrolls-legends) saying it "critical" they join the recent trend of cross-platform play.

Yeah, but I wouldn't spend money on that limited edition console.  Thats a lot of money to spend, especially if you already have the console.

I will sit back and wait to see what the reviewers think of the game before shelling out my hard earned money.  All too often these games have hype just to collapse.  There are very few companies that produce true quality content all the time.

Insomniac Games has been known to make classics and with Sony's funding for this title, we can know they have plenty of money to produce something great. Insomniac made games like Spyro, Ratchet and Clank, Sunset Overdrive, and others... but that was all their past and they haven't had a huge success in awhile.

Well... we've got our first massive gameplay video of the new Spiderman game.... and sort of expectedly, it's a massive downgrade.  Graphics, lighting, everything was massively downgraded from the trailers. :(  The game looks a lot less vibrant.

This is a bad sign.  Or is it?  Is it a bad thing we were mislead to what we see now?

Battlefield delayed knowing they would lose hugely to Red Dead Redemption.  So they delayed the game for a later release.  But they claimed it was to "fix things."

So until October when Red Dead 2 dominates the sales charts for many months, Spider-Man has the perfect window, perfect opportunity to release their game.  It better be good, or the companies fandom will shrink and faith will be lost.  I feel they are rushing it to get it out in this small time frame, hence the graphical downgrade.

Hey guys! I have a question for y'all. I just got a PS4 for my birthday today and was curious, what is a good/are good starter game(s) for it? I haven't really played on a modern console for a couple of years now, and the last one I truly owned was a PS2 and Wii years ago. I'm more of a casual gamer, but I do like some action oriented games as well. And since my dad has his own remote, are there any good multiplayer titles out there for it?
Title: Re: Playstation Gaming
Post by: Silverwing on 2018-09-20 14:04:41
Hmmmm.  Personally I would also pick GTA V, but that probably isn't a fun multiplayer game.

Sadly consoles today aren't really made for classic friends on a couch with a controler and playing.

A terrific single player action and adventure/open world game with crazy depth and stories and world building would be the Witcher III.  I would say that is a must buy.
Title: Re: Playstation Gaming
Post by: Anyponedrawn on 2018-09-20 15:37:17
The Witcher III and GTA V are great choices.  GTA V is a great story mode, not much for the online.

Red Dead Redemption II coming soon is probably going to be a mega hit too.
Title: Re: Playstation Gaming
Post by: Silverwing on 2018-09-21 10:18:42
I forgot to mention, maybe pick up Red Dead Redemption.  We know that will be amazing.

The Witcher III complete edition you can find often for a cheap $19 bucks.  That game will give you well worth that value in money in content.  It is one of the most complete games I have ever played.
Title: Re: Playstation Gaming
Post by: Darrin on 2018-09-22 11:18:02
@Binkyt11 I tend to agree with everyone above.  So you're a casual gamer, you might enjoy something simple like the classic Crash Bandicoot Trilogy that is three games for the price of a used game.  Fun to pass the controller around and play with a friend of your Dad in this case.  It is a 100% clean game to play with family.

If you want an epic single player experience, you can't go wrong with Grand Theft Auto V, Witcher III, Skyrim, or the upcoming Red Dead Redemption II.

Some fun single player adventure games I would aim you too, and you can find more cheaply when they become "Greatest Hits" would be the Tomb Raider games, which are much better then their glorified PS1 and PS2 era counterparts.  They are actually adventures.  You also can't forget the Uncharted games, which are probably the king of adventure games.  Horizon Hero-Dawn is another good adventure game as is God of War, but those are violent and pretty mature.

Rocket League is a fun two player game!  Just mindless fun.

Okay, stay with me here.

Not using your crazy fan-crazed eyes and mind.  How would you actually rate the game?   On like a one to ten scale?  What was good and what could have used some work?

First off. Already one hundred percented it. Yay.

Second off to answer you, looking at it not as a fan but as a gamer, I would give the game a solid 9 out of 10. The open world exploration is top notch. The web winging mechanics feel real like physics and gravity wise. Plus if you just wanna get somewhere fast there's a quick travel option. So much of the city is recreated down to the nitty gritty to match NYC as best they could. But understandably, some things were altered. For example Avengers Tower is present in the city. And the Freedom Tower is....kinda there. You can tell its supposed to be the Freedom Tower but its designed in game to look different. That also means there's no ground zero either.

The combat mechanics are fun. The combos are a hoot to pull off as well as using a different variety of web gadgets. Also the variety of suits each come with their own special power you can use. Like for example, the Iron Spider suit that is seen in Avengers Infinity War is available to use in this game, and it comes with its own unique special ability. And one of the best things about this, Spider Man can SWIM! In most past games if Spider Man touched water, you die. But here if you jump in the Hudson River, he can swim. That is a huge step ahead in my book.

The story mode is completely detached from any of the comics or movies, making it truly its own. And that alone is 7 out of those 9 points for me. I love a game with a great story and watching this one unfold as I played just made my emotions go everywhere. And I mean that in a good way. If you don't have the game I strongly reccomend watching the cutscene movie on youtube. It's just as good.

A few small nitpicks I have are as follows. First off, Manhattan Island is the only playable area. In past spider man games, for example, Spider Man 2 on PS2 and Gamecube, you could swing around Manhattan but you could also go across the bridges to get to Queens and such. As well as you could hitch a ride on a helicopter and go see Ellis Island or the Statue of Liberty.  If you try to go anywhere beyond Manhattan, you have no choice but to turn back.

Not being able to jump very high is also a nitpick. One of Spidey's powers is being able to jump long distances. But the jump button here only makes him at best go over one guy. You can't hold the button and make him jump higher. The web swinging makes up for that tho.

But even then the swinging itself, there's a teeny tiny little thing about it that bothers me. You have to really pace yourself. Like if you swing too fast and run up a wall, there's a chance you can get all turned around when you're on a good streak and trying to perform a stealth operation.

So there you have it. My mini review of Spider Man PS4

Sony has given in... somewhat.

After months of Backlash, Sony is finally allowing PlayStation 4 Fortnite players to play online with other platforms.

Announced on the PlayStation Blog, John Kodera, President and Global CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, said that "following a comprehensive evaluation process, SIE has identified a path toward supporting cross-platform features for select third party content."

"The first step," Kodera continues. "will be an open beta beginning today for Fortnite that will allow for cross-platform gameplay, progression and commerce across PlayStation 4, Android, iOS, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Microsoft Windows, and Mac operating systems." (https://www.ign.com/articles/2018/09/26/fortnite-cross-platform-play-arrives-on-playstation-4-today-in-beta-form?read)

But it isn't all games.  Note they said "Selected third party titles."

There's no better feeling than holding the cover to a game you've been waiting for in your hands.
Also yeah, like, some games still lock at 30 fps like wtf.

Bloodborne and The Evil Within had that shit like.... WHY? The system can clearly run at an incredibly smooth 60, what the hell?
Title: Re: Playstation Gaming
Post by: MasterXtreme on 2018-10-14 15:01:47
^ We've all been wondering that.  I feel the PS4 Pro would have been better off just waiting for the PS5.

Sony can't go cheap on this system, but will have to make it an affordable price.  None of this $599 or $499 crud.  $399 was alright....

This system is going to have to be more at a lesser cost.

Remember when everyone was saying that consoles were going to end?  We are now in the second generation of console since that debate started happening.  The PS5, or any new console, will have to prove to us on why to keep purchasing these things.  They have to have a value and a use besides just gaming and even a video player.  It will have to have a purpose, be useful, and play all our old games.

We live in a generation where we want everything to work on anything.  Someday the divide between Sony, Microsoft, and others will be so minor, because everyone will want to play that exclusive on their system... and money speaks.

Upcoming Announcements For Gamescom 2019

Just as E3 2019 was a bit underwhelming compared to past years it’s probably going to be the same for Gamescom 2019, with many publishers not attending and little expected in the way of new announcements.

Gamescom 2019 will feature an Opening Night Live segment hosted by Geoff Keighley. He has shared on Twitter that there will be some new announcements during it including Sony, Microsoft, Capcom and more. There will be more than 15 publishers that will make a new announcement during the Opening Night Live at Gamescom 2019.

However, it’s implied that the vast majority of these will only be showing footage of games that have already been announced, even if they’ve never actually been seen in public before.

Here is the list of publishers who are expected to make an announcement during Gamescom 2019.

2K
Activision
Bandai Namco Entertainment
Bungie
Capcom
Electronic Arts
Epic Games
Google Stadia
Koch Media/Deep Silver
Private Division
Sega
Square Enix
Sony Interactive Entertainment
THQ Nordic GmbH
Ubisoft
Xbox Game Studios

Sony is rumored to announce a release date for The Last of Us Part 2. Capcom is reportedly working on a brand new Resident Evil game. Google Stadia is also expected to make some announcements during Opening Night Live.

Gamescom 2019 will be held in Cologne, Germany.

Activision hints at new Crash Bandicoot games and more remakes

They might be one of the biggest video game publishers in the world but Activision are in a precarious position at the moment. Ever since Bungie left to publish Destiny themselves, Activision has been left with only one major game to sell, and while that one franchise is Call Of Duty having to rely on it and nothing else is clearly not good business sense. Activision’s only other major hits recently have been remakes of the old PS1 Crash Bandicoot and Spyro The Dragon games, and unsurprisingly that’s something they now want to double down on.

Speaking to investors, Activision talked about ‘new content’ within both franchises and implied that they were looking to create remasters of other franchises as well. The repeated use of the word remaster is odd because all the recent games have been remakes created from scratch. And whatever you think of the original games they’ve all been of an impressively high quality. The lose terminology is probably because they were only talking to investors, who don’t necessarily know all that much about games – either that or it was transcribed incorrectly.

The new content presumably implies brand new games starring both Crash Bandicoot and Spyro The Dragon, which has seemed a no-brainer ever since the first remake became a hit. What other franchises they could be hinting at is a mystery though as there’s nothing else that seems obvious. Most of Activision’s most famous games are either extremely old Atari 2600 titles or connected to a licence of some sort. For example, a remake of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater would certainly get a lot of people excited but they don’t have the licence for Tony Hawk or the music anymore, which means it’d be a fairly expensive project.

The publisher does have plans to make brand new games as well though, with COO Coddy Johnson stating that, ‘We have new IP initiatives under way and given our track record, we feel pretty confident about our ability to have success here over the future.’ What type of games they might be is impossible to guess, but at this point in time they’d almost certainly be next generation titles.

Maybe a move back to their traditional norm that everyone wants?  Fast cars and police chases?  I worry they will have tons of micro-transactions for various parts and skins of you car... I mean it would be a money maker.

EA Announced NEED FOR SPEED HEAT.

After a two-year break, Need for Speed is back with a new entry in the long-running racing series. Developer Ghost Games, responsible for 2017's Need for Speed Payback, is back at the starting line with Need for Speed Heat, which will launch on November 8 for PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One.

Need for Speed Heat takes you to Palm City, a "brand-new open world where street racers have gathered to make their names known," according to a press release. On the streets of Palm City, you will compete in Speedhunters Showdowns to earn cash to customize and upgrade your rides. But be careful during nightfall, as rogue cops patroling the darkened streets eagerly look for racers to knock down a few pegs. Need for Speed Heat is said to feature "expressive customization, authentic urban car culture, and an immersive narrative." Check out the announcement trailer below.

Pre-orders for Need for Speed Heat are available now.

Sony Acquires Insomniac Games as First-Party PlayStation Studio

Article (https://www.ign.com/articles/2019/08/19/sony-acquires-spider-man-ps4-developer-insomniac-games)

Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced it has acquired Insomniac Games, the developers behind Marvel's Spider-Man and Ratchet and Clank, as a first-party PlayStation studio.
Sony and Insomniac are in "definitive agreements" to acquire Insomniac, who have long held a partnership with PlayStation throughout the four generations of home PlayStation consoles, from Spyro the Dragon on the original PlayStation through to 2018's Spider-Man on PS4.

Insomniac will become the 14th studio in Sony's current lineup of Worldwide Studios development studios.

"Insomniac Games is one of the most highly-acclaimed development studios in the industry and their legacy of best-in class storytelling and gameplay is unparalleled," Shawn Layden, Chairman of SIE WWS, said in a statement alongside the announcement. "We have enjoyed a strong collaborative partnership with the studio for many years, and are thrilled to officially welcome them to the Worldwide Studios family. The addition of Insomniac Games to SIE WWS reiterates our commitment to developing world class gaming experiences that can only be found on the PlayStation platform."

Joining the WWS family gives Insomniac even greater opportunities to achieve our studio vision of making positive and lasting impressions on people's lives," Ted Price, Insomniac Games founder and CEO, said in an additional statement. "We've enjoyed a special relationship with PlayStation practically since our inception. Our partnership amplifies our potential, and Marvel's Spider-Man was a testament to this. We're excited to take the next step in our growth alongside our longtime WWS partners. Most of all, we look forward to delivering fresh, new experiences for our fans."

We took a look at the state of Sony's first-party studios earlier this year, and we know that Sony has considered acquiring studios ahead of the PS5. Bringing Insomniac officially into the first-party fold cements a relationship that has produced a number of beloved PlayStation-exclusive franchises, from Spyro and Ratchet to Resistance and Spider-Man. For a time, Insomniac appeared to be exploring other partnerships, having produced the Xbox One exclusive Sunset Overdrive several years ago, but the return of Ratchet and Clank to PS4 and Spider-Man's acclaimed debut last year resolidified the relationship between Sony and Insomniac.

No game announcements were made alongside the acquisition announcement, but given that Spider-Man on PS4 has sold over 13.2 million copies worldwide as of July 28, 2019, it's clear Sony and Insomniac have made a great pair, and will continue to do so as PlayStation enters the next generation of consoles.
video loading...

Speaking of the next generation, Sony has recently discussed Sony is considering cross-gen play thanks to the PS4 backward compatibility. Spider-Man has also played a big role in what we've seen of the PS5 so far, as Sony's demo of the PS5's impressive load times involved a comparison between Marvel's Spider-Man running on PS4 and PS5. And even though many are looking ahead to what the PS5 may bring, Sony is still planning to bring several major exclusives to the.

World rocked.

PlayStation Says the Dualshock's 'X' Button is Actually Called 'Cross'

Earlier this week, the official PlayStation UK account tweeted out something that seemingly rocked the gaming community. It turns out, that “X” button (commonly pronounced “ex”) on the right side of the PlayStation Dualshock controller is actually called the “Cross” button, as reported by Eurogamer.

"Triangle. Circle. Cross. Square," PlayStation UK tweeted. "If Cross is called X (it's not), then what are you calling Circle?"

PlayStation UK even took a moment to poke fun at those who call it “ex” with a classic SpongeBob meme.

PlayStation announces new State of Play, will showcase new games

Sept. 20 (UPI) -- PlayStation has announced plans to live stream a new installment of its State of Play series that will showcase new video games on Tuesday at 4 p.m. ET.

The presentation will be live streamed across YouTube, Twitch, Twitter and Facebook and last around 20 minutes.

PlayStation stated on their official blog that this State of Play will include new PlayStation 4 game announcements, content from PlayStation's Worldwide Studios and other updates.

It will not cover the company's plans for a next-generation console, often referred to as PlayStation 5.

Sony first began live streaming State of Play presentations in March after the company decided not to hold a PlayStation press conference at E3 2019.

SONY'S PLAYSTATION 4 MOVES TO SECOND BEST SELLING CONSOLE

Sony’s latest published sales figures for the console reveal it shifted another 2.8 million units over the July-September quarter, moving it onto 102.8m total sales. That’s enough for it to overtake Nintendo’s Wii on 101.6m and its own great-grandfather, the original PlayStation, which sold 102.6m consoles across its lifetime.

Back in the summer, the PS4 became the fastest console to sell 100 million units.

Sony has already announced that its successor will be here at the end of the next calendar year and, though there’s still at least 12 months until that happens, a lot of players will be keeping their money trousered to save up for what’s likely to be a pretty expensive 2020. The PS5’s backwards compatibility and cross-generational play make it an easier decision too.

It’s unlikely then that the PS4 will, despite its record-setting ability to fly off the shelves, take the top spot in the charts. Helped by considerable longevity, the PS2 sold 155m consoles across its life, and that’s a figure that any other home console will struggle to get near. However, the PS4 should bow out at nigh-on 120m and firmly establish itself in second — with Sony consoles holding all of the top three spots.

As for PlayStation 5, it has a hard act to follow, but the credentials seem pretty compelling…

TOP THREE BEST SELLING CONSOLES

1. Playstation 2
2. Playstation 4
3. Playstation

Personally I think the best way they can review games is have maybe a handful of people play the game (which I know would be hard) and then have them all review it and present their different reviews.  Maybe average their scores to come up with a final review score.  That way it's more open.  Some people could love something and some might not. :)

The problem if they get people to play a game who LIKES that kind of game is that they will always review it highly.  That wouldn't be right necessarily.  It would skew results.

I do like the multiple people reviewing one game idea.

So that means every RPG game reviewed by an RPG fan would get glowing reviews.  Same with every racing game, every shooter game, etc.

It would make all review scores prior meaningless.  Games that got lower scores could have received scores with people who like that type of game.  It's just not a fair way to review a game.

It would be like having Nintendo review their own game console.  They'd give it a perfect score of course.

What you and Silver are saying makes sense.  I also think getting multiple people to review a single game would make sense.  You could get multiple scores then get one average score.  It only makes sense. You can have many different gamers who specialize in certain game types, and you'd have all the opinions on one page that way.  Good idea.  We should make a gaming website based on this. :D  Multiple reviews for the same game with an average score at the end.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is out.  Been getting good reviews.

We have to give EA Games credit on this one.  No micro transactions, no further monetization.  It's just a good old fashioned, single player game.  And it's refreshing.  The best Star Wars game we've had in over a decade and it shows.  EA gave their game studios time and the money to build this game the way that studio wanted to make it.  It's a great game!

I test played it.  It's pretty fun.  A lot harder than earlier adaptions and you actually have to prep and plan your skills a bit.  The levels are not open world, but they are very well made and pretty.  Finally a good Star Wars game.  Been forverever sense that has happened. Lots of credit to Respawn Entertainment (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Respawn_Entertainment) for making this game and EA Games simply stepping back and letting them have the time and funds to make it.  EA should do this more often, and they can build back their once unstoppable support.

A new poll by IGN asks everyone which console deals they are most interested in/likely to buy this Christmas season.

Playstation Deal - 45%

Xbox Deal - 16%

Nintendo Deal - 8%

Not Planning To Buy/Other - 31%

PS4 as we know is easily outselling the others in this generation in total numbers and a higher rate.  This is a good gauge to see what people are interested in.

No surprise there really.  Microsoft stopped revealing their monthly sales numbers because.... and we know.... they are not keeping up with Sony even in the slightest.  But credit to Microsoft with their subscription service which is fairly cheap for unlimited games.  Sony has one too, but is further improved upon with it's first party games.... something Microsoft has failed at this generation.

Nintendo isn't even in the same league so irrelevant to this.

I'm playing it right now!  I think it is visually stunning.  It is among the best and their interpretation of the Pacific Northwest is beautiful in a weird end of days kind of way.  But.... I can't get over some of the story elements and "surprise twists" and rewriting history things.  It's a pretty political game and also exceedingly depressing.  There is no happiness, no characters that make you smile.  It's just dread and sorrow.  Everyone is tormented, everyone is suffering.  Also I am shocked at how little the fighting and cover system has changed and next to no new things to fight.  It's a bit disappointing and I would so far say the game is in the negative range over the positive.  It is beautiful to look at, but overall the game mechanics are starting to feel dated.

PlayStation 5 Set To Fix Biggest Mistake Made By PlayStation 4

Article (https://www.ibtimes.com/playstation-5-set-fix-biggest-mistake-made-playstation-4-3020217)

As the best selling gaming console ever made, there was one glaring error that people point out regarding the PlayStation 4, namely backwards compatibility. From the moment the PlayStation 5 is launched, that next-gen console will immediately address that error.

With over 100 million units sold and as the home of quality games like “God of War” and “The Last of Us Part II,” the PS4 was a remarkable success by all accounts. Yet people have pointed out that if the PlayStation 4 had included backwards compatibility, it would have reached its full potential, notes ScreenRant.

In contrast, the Xbox One made nearly every Xbox 360 and original Xbox game playable on it, even enhancing several titles to play at a higher resolution and frame rate. That feature became one of the top-selling points of the Xbox One and, with Xbox Games Pass, Microsoft is once again becoming a big contender for many players.

Since Sony has already confirmed that thousands of PS4 games will be playable on the PS5 from day one, the next-gen console is definitely looking to change the dynamic in their favor. Backwards compatibility is enough justification for several fans to move on to the next generation and pre-order a PS5 despite still not having a launch date or price point for the console.

It will be recalled that when the PlayStation 4 was launched, one of its biggest issues was a lackluster lineup of games. And although Sony is directly addressing it with their lineup slated for the PS5, just having thousands of PS4 games ready to play right out of the box is a great immediate selling point.

Sony has had a confusing history with backwards compatibility dating all the way back to the PlayStation 2 and its ability to play PS1 games. By the time the PS4 rolled around, some mistakes made in the PS2 and PS3 had reared their ugly heads and Sony had to sacrifice backwards compatibility on the PS4.

In an age where high-quality games are rapidly releasing, it's a relief to know that the backlog library so many players have will be playable on the PlayStation 5. ScreenRant reports that Sony has also confirmed that PS4 games will be enhanced for PS5, potentially displaying at a higher resolution and taking advantage of the SSD for faster load times and better frame rate.

Sony has also confirmed that third-party developers have the option to provide smart delivery for any PS4 games that will also release on the PS5. Whether that will be the case for PS4-exclusive titles like “The Last of Us Part II” and “Ghost of Tsushima” remains to be seen, however, yet the fact that both of those can be played on a PlayStation 5 the moment that unit is bought is already a huge deal.

Marvel’s Avengers’ Spider-Man Is a PlayStation-exclusive Character

Article (https://www.siliconera.com/marvels-avengers-spider-man-is-a-playstation-exclusive-character/)

It turns out some heroes won’t show up everywhere. The Marvel’s Avengers Spider-Man character will only show up on PlayStation platforms. The PlayStation Blog confirmed the free post-launch character will be added to the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 in 2021.

This is the second instance of PlayStation-related preferential treatment regarding Marvel’s Avengers. The beta is also happening earlier on the PlayStation 4. People who pre-ordered it for that console can start playing on August 7, 2020, while the general PlayStation 4 open beta will begin on August 14, 2020.

A few details about Spider-Man’s debut where shared. He will be a fully-fledged character who will have his own moveset, skill tree, and costumes. He’ll also be introduced alongside an event. As for suits, the PlayStation Blog update from Crystal Dynamics Associate Art Director Jeff Adams noted that the outfits for Spider-Man will be based on designs from comic artists like Steve Ditko and John Romita Sr.

Marvel’s Avengers Spider-Man is the second post-launch character to be revealed. At the end of July 2020, Crystal Dynamics and Square Enix confirmed that Hawkeye would be added to the game sometime after it launched. While there are no screenshots or video of Spider-Man yet, Hawkeye had a teaser and a picture of him in an alternate costume.

Marvel’s Avengers will come to the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and Google Stadia on September 4, 2020. It will show up on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X later this holiday season.

Pleased to present, Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time!

Lets hope they keep it running like the original games and no silly gimmicks.

It is a DIRECT sequel to CRASH WARPED.  Toys for Bob, who made all the remakes, is making this game and I think I trust them too.  They had already made all these assets so it would be fairly easy to make a new game.  I am curious about their storytelling, but it looks promising for Crash fans!

OCTOBER 2, 2020!!!

I remember playing the original games. I bought the N' Sane Trilogy and had so much fun.  I am really looking forward to this new one.  It looks like they took great care with it.  I was pleased to hear the director of the game say there is no MTA's.  NO MICRO TRANSACTIONS!

Every month you log on to GTA V Online on the Playstation 4, you will automatically now receive $1 million dollars courtesy of Sony to use in GTA V Online.

This will continue each month until the release of GTA V on the Playstation 5.

As well, GTA Online Los Santos Summer Special!

Super excited about this.  This video goes into where this series fits in with games after Warped.  It's quite interesting what the developers are trying to do.

I'm wondering if they will make a new Spyro game too?

There are a lot of old series out there that need new titles. One such that comes to mind is the Jak and Daxter series? Any of you remember that?

Jak and Daxter and Ratchet and Clank.

Both are on the table for reboots at any time.  You know they are watching the success of Crash and Spyro again and considering it.

I never liked skateboarding in real life, but the early Tony Hawk games are lots of fun.  Tony Hawk's Underground may be among the best of the franchise. I really liked Proskater 2 and 3 too.

It's not for everyone, but the levels and world has a unique sense of charm to it all. Haven't played the remake, so I can't say for that.

I didn't care for skateboarding either, but I can attest how awesome some of those Tony Hawk games were.  THUnderground combined everything that was great, level making, story, and character making, levels, humor, and make a great game!

There is a mad rush as Sony has lied.  They said they wouldn't have a surprise pre-order announcement... but they did.  After their big show today, they said pre-orders would start immediately in North America.

PS5 starts at $499 and $399 for the Digital Edition.

Also... no cross-gen play? Apparently several of the new PS5 games will play on PS4?  It's very confusing and today was nothing but confusion by most people.

Pricing for games was not supposed to go up... but now Sony says new games will cost $69.  That is $10 bucks more than the current games.

A very bad day for Sony and lots of lying and misinformation.

System officially released November 12, 2020, same week as the Xbox.  Xbox released on Tuesday and Sony released on Thursday of that week.

They botched it badly.  I think this will be the first step of a bad start... and possibly allow Microsoft to win early on.

But Sony lied or construed the truth poorly.  Lying about the PS4 and PS5 games as well as cross-gen play.  They lied about saying they would stop making games for the PS4, because now they said they will continue to make PS4 games for at least four more years.

I can't believe how they would botch this so poorly.  They've done this before, so how could they get it so wrong?

The increase in price with new games is annoying.  If I can get the same stuff on the PS4 for $10 bucks less, I will.  No reason to rush to the PS5.

I don't think Sony or Microsoft even knows why they are making new consoles!  I don't think they are confident in them.  They release consoles are kinda pointless if you have a PC, but they know many people will just buy consoles anyways right now.  But it truly seems they are both confused. If the PS4 will still get games, it doesn't seem like the PS5 is needed... and the same is said with the new Xbox (whatever it is called).
Title: Re: Playstation Gaming

So no cross generation play?  I am upset.  They lied.

Price increase?  They said no originally.  They lied.

Seems like the PS5 is mostly just a minor graphically upgrade... and if that's the case, who even cares?  I know I don't care about a very minor difference in color contrasts. I have no reason to buy a PS5 now.  I'll just stick to the PS4 and PC for now.

No. The mistakes Sony made don't compare to the anger and frustration people are having with Microsoft.  Thought Microsoft is doing the pre-order better.  They too lied about cross-generation play and did a 180 on that.

From the world of Harry Potter, we get the reveal of something that people have long wanted.  An open world Harry Potter game.

Introduced to the world via the PS4, HOGWART'S LEGACY.

This was immediately propelled to the top of the "most wanted" list and we will get more info in the coming months.  And isn't it great that it is a SINGLE PLAYER RPG and not a multiplayer online game.  Thank God.  It comes 2021 on PS4 and PC.

"Hogwarts Legacy is an immersive, open-world action RPG set in the world first introduced in the Harry Potter books. Now you can take control of the action and be at the center of your own adventure in the wizarding world. Embark on a journey through familiar and new locations as you explore and discover fantastic beasts, customize your character and craft potions, master spell casting, upgrade talents, and become the wizard you want to be.

Experience Hogwarts in the 1800s. Your character is a student who holds the key to an ancient secret that threatens to tear the wizarding world apart. You have received a late acceptance to the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and soon discover that you are no ordinary student: you possess an unusual ability to perceive and master Ancient Magic. Only you can decide if you will protect this secret for the good of all, or yield to the temptation of more sinister magic.

Discover the feeling of living at Hogwarts as you make allies, battle Dark wizards, and ultimately decide the fate of the wizarding world. Your legacy is what you make of it."

A lot of Gran Turismo 7 news.  PS5 exclusive with a 2021 release date planned.

Article: Playstation Lifestyle (https://www.playstationlifestyle.net/2021/02/01/gran-turismo-7-esports/)

Gran Turismo 7 Will Be More Like Classic GT Titles Rather Than Taking After Gran Turismo Sport

Gran Turismo 7 will mark a return to the classic games in the series. In an interview with Octane, Polyphony Digital CEO Kazunori Yamauchi stated that while e-sports will factor into the game, they won’t be as big a focus as they were in the last title, Gran Turismo Sport.

As Yamauchi explained, Gran Turismo Sport “took on the challenge of full-scale e-sports” in a move away from the traditional model of previous games. The problem is it didn’t sell as well. The game did manage to attract 9.5 million players in the end, but “it didn’t sell explosively from the beginning“. The reason for this was seemingly because it “may have seemed quite outlandish for some people”. As such, Gran Turismo 7 will keep some e-sports elements, like the FIA-certified Gran Turismo Championships, but the game will return to the classic and nostalgic feel of games like Gran Turismo 1-4. It will “provide the best Gran Turismo experience at present”.

The development of the game has been very drawn out. First teased for PlayStation 4 back in 2013, everything went quiet as GT Sport was released instead. The title was then leaked for a 2020 release before being officially unveiled for PS5 last year. Developing the title for the latest PlayStation console will mean it can make use of many of the console’s features, like fast loading, 3D audio, haptic feedback, Adaptive Triggers, 4K support, HDR, and a target frame rate of 60 frames-per-second. Ray tracing will especially make a large difference to the game’s visuals.  Yamauchi failed to be drawn on the future of the franchise once Gran Turismo 7 has been released. However, he did imply the franchise wouldn’t be ending anytime soon.

PlayStation 5 Sells 4.5 Million Units in Its First Seven Weeks on Sale

GT Planet / Feb 3, 2021 (https://www.gtplanet.net/ps5-45million-sales-20210203/)

Sony has released its Q3 2020 financial report, and it provides some astonishing sales figures for the new PlayStation 5 console. In total, between its launch day on November 12 and the quarter’s end on December 31, customers bought more than 4.5 million PS5s.

That figure matches the success of the PlayStation 4. The PS5’s predecessor also recorded 4.5m sales in the first quarter, from November 15 to December 31 2013, and went on to be the fastest home console to reach 100m sales. However, there’s a slightly different atmosphere to the 2020 console launch.

A global shortage of flash memory has somewhat stymied Sony’s ability to supply consoles. Both Sony and Microsoft faced shortages, in part thanks to ongoing global issues but also the mobile phone market; suppliers simply couldn’t make chips fast enough to accommodate both markets. Sony ramped up production, but still hasn’t been able to satisfy an enormous demand for the consoles — also driven by the same global crisis.

That’s lead to a lot of dissatisfaction among the gaming public. The initial release of console pre-orders was overwhelmed in seconds, leading to Sony to apologize for how it handled the event, and stores have experienced the same issues with further batches of consoles.

Scalping groups — collectives which attempt to buy out stocks of in-demand products to deny genuine customers, then sell at grossly inflated prices — claimed to have ordered tens of thousands of consoles from under-prepared retailers, leading to further shortages. A recent batch of consoles sold in a store in Japan led to borderline rioting.

However, as further tranches of PS5s make their way into stores in the next few weeks, Sony is expecting the console to beat the PS4’s first financial year sales of 7.5m, and its second year sales of 14.8m too.

PlayStation 4 continued to sell too, adding another 1.4m units to reach almost 113m lifetime sales. In addition, Sony reported that PlayStation Network now has 114m subscribers, with 47.4m players on PlayStation Plus — including some 87% of all PlayStation 5 owners.

Gran Turismo will be featured as an Olympic competition this year

Article (https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/more-sports/gran-turismo-will-be-featured-in-an-olympic-competition-this-year/ar-BB1fVpNq?ocid=uxbndlbing)

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has announced a new series of virtual sporting events that will take place ahead of the Tokyo Olympics, called the Olympic Virtual Series. No, this doesn’t mean that League of Legends just became an Olympic sport — what’s happening is that the IOC is partnering with five international sports federations to host virtual competitions in games featuring their sports.

The Olympic Virtual Series will kick off on May 13th and will run through June 23rd. Here’s the lineup of federations and what games they’ll be hosting events for, as we know it so far:

Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile will host a Gran Turismo competition
Union Cycliste Internationale will host a competition for Zwift, which offers virtual cycling and running courses to use with indoor exercise
The World Baseball Softball Confederation will host a competition for Konami’s eBaseball Powerful Pro Baseball 2020
World Sailing will host a competition for Virtual Regatta, an online sailing and regatta sailing simulation game
World Rowing doesn’t officially have a game attached to it yet; a press release only said vaguely that there would be an “open format.” A PR spokesperson tells The Verge that details about the World Rowing competition are forthcoming
There are still many things we don’t know about the Olympic Virtual Series. It’s still unclear who will be competing, how you can try to sign up to compete, what prizes will be offered (will somebody become a Gran Turismo gold medalist?), and which events will happen when. The IOC promises that more details will be announced soon.

More sports could get involved in future virtual series. FIFA, the International Basketball Federation, the International Tennis Federation, and World Taekwondo have “confirmed their excitement and commitment to exploring inclusion in future editions of the OVS,” the IOC said.

Good for GT! :D It's weird to see anything "non athletic" be in the Olympics, even if it is a pre-Olympic sanctioned event.  I mean these are esports.  Not really real sports like the others.  But it is a different kind of "event" for sure.  These driver train too.

It's happening.

Sony is now officially publishing PC games under PlayStation PC LLC
Article (https://venturebeat.com/2021/10/29/sony-is-now-publishing-pc-games-under-playstation-pc-llc/)

Sony is renaming its PC publishing label on Steam to “PlayStation PC LLC.” This reflects its intentions to put even more of its games on Valve’s platform in the future.

The name “PlayStation PC LLC” is popping up in place of “PlayStation Mobile” on various Steam pages. At the time of writing, you can find that label on all of the Steam pages attached to its various games — although it took a while for the change to roll out for some games.

PlayStation recently announced that former exclusive God of War will release on PC next January. A two-game Nathan Drake game collection called Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection is due sometime in early 2022. Sackboy: A Big Adventure is also allegedly on the slate for a PC release, as implied in the GeForce Now leak and a new listing on SteamDB.

Various PlayStation execs have reiterated their plans to bring more games to PC later in their lifecycles. PlayStation head Jim Ryan said in an interview with GQ earlier this year: “There’s an opportunity to expose those great games to a wider audience and recognize the economics of game development, which are not always straightforward. The cost of making games goes up with each cycle, as the calibre of the IP has improved. Also, our ease of making it available to non-console owners has grown.”

NPD Group’s Mat Piscatella pointed out in a tweet that there is little overlap between the two audiences: “According to The NPD Group’s PlayerPulse, only about 1/3 of PC players in the US owns a PS4, and only 8% own a PS5. That leaves a huge PC audience that can be reached, and is also why releasing ports on PC is not likely to impact content sales on the consoles.”

As for what PlayStation games could conceivably end up on the platform in the future, Bloodborne, both Last of Us games, Ghost of Tsushima, Returnal, and the remaining Nathan Drake titles seem possible. Clearly, PlayStation can get a lot more juice out of moving older titles to PC.

I hope that Gran Turismo is one of those games eventually.

With Sony's amazing lineup over the years on the Playstation console, I hope they take this opportunity to really release some of their great catalog of games.  And not half-ask do it, but make sure it runs well and properly for the PC/Mac.

They have a few games already out there, including their excellent MLB The Show game.  But they got things like Uncharted, God of War, Gran Turismo, etc.

So much possibility.

Title: Sony To Buy Bungie

Sony to buy video game maker Bungie in $3.6 billion
Article (https://www.cnbc.com/2022/01/31/sony-to-buy-video-game-maker-bungie-in-3point6-billion-deal.html)

Not many expected to see the original makers of Halo be bought out by Sony.  It appears Sony says they want them to remain independent in their purchase, but use their popular brands in future games, shows, movies, etc.  Sony also says they plan to allow them to sell games on all consoles still.  Not limited to Playstation.

Sony Interactive Entertainment has agreed to acquire privately held video game developer Bungie for $3.6 billion, adding to a flurry of industry consolidation this month.

Bungie is the company behind the multiplayer shooter games Destiny and Halo, the latter of which it developed until 2010. Bungie was acquired by Microsoft in 2000 and split from that company in 2007.

Sony has a packed lineup for this Christmas with new games.  Xbox has nothing but delays.  They had delays on launch and still delays.  So Sony is kicking their teeth in right now even more so.

I'm loving how Playstation is adding so many awesome games to Steam now for PC players.  This will open up so much to the world and spread their IP's to a whole new level of profitability.

They would have just started production, so anything can happen at this point.  It can get canned, especially since it was Xbox who picked it up... not Sony. :(
