It's weird not going to Easter Sunday service since... we can't. We're not allowed to. It's very weird.
Not only that, but some folks risked getting arrested if they
did. That's frightening. We're veering far too close to a socialist state for comfort. Police officials went around on Easter Sunday in some areas and took down license plate numbers of worshippers in order to later prosecute those caught breaking stay-at-home orders. It reminds me eerily of what Germany and the Soviet Union were doing to the faithful back in the 1930s....
As I noted last week at
my blog, it's truly our dogs who suffer in all this. I haven't been able to take mine out for ten days owing to the town's quarantine law. Although I am hearing reports that people are free to adopt pets in order to help with feelings of boredom and isolation...but I'd be concerned about those who don't get that some breeds need a lot of exercise, and end up keeping a high-energy dog cooped up indoors and going mad all day. Frankly, a little jaunt around the backyard just doesn't cut it with my guys. Now, dogs can't catch Covid-19, but trust me, dog owners are a singular breed, and if two of 'em chance to meet on the street with their four-legged friends in tow, likely they will stop to talk and share... and in this age of Corona, they might swap a lot more than stories between them. So while it may have our furry chums climbing the walls, it's probably a lot safer in the long run to stay inside for another four days... at least until the government decides to classify dog-walking an "essential" service under its bylaws and lets us poor folk out.
