I'm going to be honest.  I'm scared.  :(  I'm scared for my family members who are older, friends, and the people around the country and world.  I'm scared there is no vaccine and I am scared about the thought of us being trapped in a quarantine.  I am seeing headlines around the world at places like Italy, the UK, France, Germany, Australia, and South Korea and how they are not able to contain their Coronavirus outbreaks.  These are all first world countries and they are struggling.  The US is a first world country and we are being the virus explode in the Pacific Northwest, the west coast, and now the east coast.  I want to believe in our government and leaders are doing the right thing, but just like us, they've never experienced this stuff before.  They've practiced, but now it's happening.

I'm just flat out scared.  :(

We have to take this one day at a time.

It's impossible not be anxious; that's totally understandable. But stress can weaken the immune system, and... you know. That's not the best.

Try not to be afraid and worried.  What happens is what happens, but we can be as prepared as possible.  Stay away from large gathering, wash your hands THOROUGHLY (Fingers, nails, palms, thumbs, tops of hand) each for at least 5 seconds in warm water with soap.  If you can find hand sanitizer, use it after you wash or take it with you as a temporary help to washing your hands (it cannot replace it).

Here are the basics.

CDC (https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/index.html)
Health Dept. Information and what to do (https://www.doh.wa.gov/Emergencies/Coronavirus).

Here are sources so you can track the amount of cases.

And further information on following the virus.

Just got to wash your hands and stay calm everyone.  Make sure you have enough food and supplies to last a few weeks just incase something bad were to happen... you never know.  But fear won't help.  Stressing won't help.

I'm nervous but I am trying to keep my cool over this.   I have been washing my hands and avoiding close contact with people.  Also remember don't touch your eyes, nose, or mouth.  That's how the virus gets inside.   Wash your hands thoroughly.

Stuff like this has happened before.  It happens especially in countries we never talk about today.  Be positive and be smart.  Wash your hands.

Here's an interesting article I found on when it's too soon to make jokes (https://www.wired.com/story/coronavirus-memes-humor/) about this scary pandemic.   I myself was kicking around a comic story idea about an outbreak of a disease called "Colonnavirus" which causes its victims to physically change into and speak like 40's-era comedian Jerry Colonna (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jerry_Colonna_(entertainer)#Popular_culture_references).     :{  "Greetings, gate! Let's osculate!"       I suppose I needn't fear backlash; I gather as long as the joke isn't terribly hurtful, defaming, or ethnic in nature, it's permissible... but my concern is, would millennial audiences get the gag?    :-\

Well everyone, it might be too early to say, but South Korea may have peaked in their coronavirus cases.  Lets hope they have, because that means soon they may have a decline.

Sadly on the opposite spectrum we have Italy, Spain, and Iran, all exploding in new cases and deaths.

Hopefully this will ease some fears as well.  This is a comprehensive article about EVERYTHING we know and don't know about Coronavirus.  I'm sorry some of you are worried.  But try to stay calm and stay on top of keeping your hands clean and avoiding face contact.

This article should help ease a bit, including who is most at risk by age group, how long coronavirus lasts if you get it, etc.

We're about to see this thing explode in the case numbers in the US, Germany, Spain, and France based on case trends I'm looking at.  That is my personal opinion, but looking at the data and trends, it sure points to that.

Hopefully this will make people think of the bigger picture and put you at ease some bit.

What does the 'flattened curve' have to do with minimizing spread of coronavirus?
Article KING 5 News Seattle (https://www.king5.com/article/news/health/what-is-flattening-the-curve-coronavirus-covid-19-spread/281-ef6b8da1-6674-4765-83c5-8aeb1ada2dd2)

As a global pandemic like the coronavirus spreads, health officials around the world worry about hospitals being overwhelmed with patients needing intensive care, therefore increasing mortality rates and spreading the virus to a much larger population.

Different versions of a chart called the "flattened curve" have been shown by experts in Oregon -- and worldwide -- to help illustrate what kind of burden an overwhelmed hospital system could have.

It shows two curves -- the red "epidemic growth" line represents a heightened number of cases over a short amount of time.

This occurs in an environment where no social interventions have been placed. For example, if the population is simply going about their usual daily business, the virus is likely to infect more people in a shorter amount of time.

"The top of that peak is are people who need intensive care or ventilators. We want to flatten that peak and spread cases over time, so when the most critically ill get sick, they get access to resources and get a better shot at recovering from the virus," Jennifer Vines, Multnomah County's health officer, explained this week.

The second line shows the number of cases with social distancing implemented during the early stages of the virus. This slows the growth of the epidemic, and puts a lot less stress on the healthcare system, therefore lowering the mortality rate.

A good example of what social distancing can do to an epidemic's growth is what two American cities chose to do during the 1918 during the influenza pandemic. Philadelphia went on with holding large, social gatherings while the city of St. Louis canceled those kinds of events:

And lastly a video if interested of Washington Governor Jay Inslee telling the state to practice social distancing and further actions.

Luckily if Coronavirus hits people's jobs, the Trump administration is working on a way that would requite companies to pay you your normal paycheck if you can't work due to job closure or illness.  News headlines below.  The CDC is also going to make recommendations for hard hit states like Washington, California, New York, etc by tomorrow.  Possibly telling some to quarantine, close schools, etc.  As well, the Trump Administration has worked out a deal with insurance companies so that people won't have to pay for Coronavirus testing co-pays as well as extended care due to the illness. Stay tuned as all this is changing constantly.

He stated that the risk of the virus is low to young people, but risk is high for older American's with health issues.

The President said he will put into action an Emergency action will be taken to provide financial relief to any workers who can't work during the Coronavirus due to illness or loss of work due to work place closure.  Hourly workers will get paid, all workers will get paid.  Payroll tax relief as well.

He is instructing the Small Business Administration to provide aid to businesses overcome business downturn.  The federal government is offering a $50 billion loan.

He says we will overcome as a Nation and the world will overcome this.  He says he wants what is best for the American people and he is confident these steps will help reduce and defeat Covid-19.  He says we need to unite and stop partisanship. He says through this we must unite and help one another and when this is done we will be stronger as a nation and come out more united than ever.

He ended by saying God Bless America.

It is reassuring major steps are being taken, but I hope it isn't just prolonging things as well to hit our peak later.  But at the same time, if we can diminish transmission, hopefully that vaccine will be done by the end of the year.

It stinks people who are living their average lives can't get their normal food supplies because panicked (Selfish?) people are buying way more than they need.  I know this is happening around the world too, but come on people.  Be respectful of others.

I feel bad for the elderly who don't have access to all the info and they can't get their food at the store because someone else bought it all.

Not to mention cleaning supplies and bathroom products.  Everything is gone.

Welcome to the club...

I've been locked up inside my house for about 2 weeks by now. I only came out once to buy food supplies at the grocery store for the next 14 days... I hope I didn't fucked up that day and ended up catching something...
I only have terrible things to say about this experience but I don't want to scare you guys even more so I'll shut up about it...
I'll only say this: They said that where I live the worst has yet to come... and it's already so bad as it is. I'm... not looking forward to that... like, at all...
As for now, me and everyone I personally know is fine... and I am never been so grateful for that in life.

The future looks really grim so... stay safe everyone... Dear goodness, make sure to stay safe...

Italy really has taken a square hit in the jaw.  We will eventually after all this is done , look back on it and figure out why.  A large portion is people not heeding to "social distancing" early on.  But I know there is more.

Most US states are telling people to social distance and a few states have ordered people to stay indoors.  Lots of different tactics being employed.  Lets hope this ends soon.

Memphis, Tennessee, is about an hour and a half from us, and the first observable cases in Shelby County and its neighbors were confirmed just over two weeks ago. Still, despite the last two weeks of hearing horror stories from overseas, and news coming out of big 'burgs like New York, L.A., Miami, and Chicago about the shortages, the closings, and the new rules and indignities their citizens were forced to suffer, I figured a small wide-place-in-the-road town like mine would escape the bug's notice. After all, the weather was in our favor. It had rained nearly nonstop for three or four days, see, and I had heard the virus doesn't thrive in wet, humid climes, which we certainly have here.  However, I can see signs the panic is starting to hit close to home.  Yesterday I went out to the store to buy a few supplies for lunch and noticed the shelves looking a little bare-- people stocking up on bread, meat, canned, and microwavable goodies had left large gaps in our little grocer's inventory.  While walking the dogs I spied a sign on one of the churches announcing Sunday services to be cancelled, as per CDC orders, 'til further notice. I check the news daily to see if any of the colleges in my state have closed their doors yet because of the wave of panic-- something that would have been unthinkable twenty years ago, but with advances in technology you almost don't miss the daily grind of classes and life in cramped, dirty dormitories (unless you just can't fuction without the ambient smell of pot smoke and urine coming from the back stairs). As I work at home, don't go out much, and stay away from people much of the time anyhow, I find my day-to-day isn't terribly impacted by this, plus I wonder if spending so many hours a day hanging out behind a dirty, germ-filled dumpster (https://www.deviantart.com/haggismccrablice/art/http-smokingcatcomicsandcollectibles-bdcomish159-802496430) with my old pit bull (https://images-wixmp-ed30a86b8c4ca887773594c2.wixmp.com/f/a2e03e8a-33a8-47e2-a3e5-0c592d110fba/ddshlc2-b51db7eb-f844-4909-8a9e-677403e881a8.jpg/v1/fit/w_300,h_900,q_70,strp/pensivemooch_by_haggismccrablice_ddshlc2-300w.jpg?token=eyJ0eXAiOiJKV1QiLCJhbGciOiJIUzI1NiJ9.eyJzdWIiOiJ1cm46YXBwOjdlMGQxODg5ODIyNjQzNzNhNWYwZDQxNWVhMGQyNmUwIiwiaXNzIjoidXJuOmFwcDo3ZTBkMTg4OTgyMjY0MzczYTVmMGQ0MTVlYTBkMjZlMCIsIm9iaiI6W1t7ImhlaWdodCI6Ijw9OTY4IiwicGF0aCI6IlwvZlwvYTJlMDNlOGEtMzNhOC00N2UyLWEzZTUtMGM1OTJkMTEwZmJhXC9kZHNobGMyLWI1MWRiN2ViLWY4NDQtNDkwOS04YTllLTY3NzQwM2U4ODFhOC5qcGciLCJ3aWR0aCI6Ijw9NzI0In1dXSwiYXVkIjpbInVybjpzZXJ2aWNlOmltYWdlLm9wZXJhdGlvbnMiXX0.f2_yPrlhG7Z7Doekis6lpkgB8_Jm0utTda-FbqZTqrs) has tempered my immune system somewhat. I could probably weather a dozen such passing pandemics and not even blink.

It is much different in rural America, but there have been a few reported outbreaks that have hit small rural counties.  It right away causes problems for those counties with less resources and their health services.  Let's be honest, some rural counties... especially the south... have really poor rural healthcare.  This isn't the case in other parts of the country with rural healthcare.  But it can be overwhelming having to all of a sudden have an emergency like this and practice planning (they may not have done before).

Stocking of supplies here in the urban areas has been good so far, but good luck finding hand sanitizer and lysol.  Food is usually good, bought out by the evening, and restocked in the morning.

That should read "Democrats Block Republican Coronavirus Stimulus Plan to Give Cash to Corporations". The whole reason they blocked it was because it wasn't giving enough cash to families; the gifts to corporations were being made with fewer strings attached than they would have liked.

That should read "Democrats Block Republican Coronavirus Stimulus Plan to Give Cash to Corporations". The whole reason they blocked it was because it wasn't giving enough cash to families; the gifts to corporations were being made with fewer strings attached than they would have liked.

So the companies can pay their employees AND stay afloat.  There shouldn't be any partisan politics right now when trying to solve this crisis.  Even NBC and the New York Times are calling out the Democratic Party for playing politics right now.

Also congrats on your first post.

I just want both parties to put the politics behind them and actually think about the people here and now, not how can I leverage this to my advantage. Think about the here and now, no sneaking in bits of legislation not related to the current crisis. Stop acting like children.

Exactly.  Yes. I want our leaders to be successful in helping America.  Doesn't matter who it is, we need to unite behind them so this virus can be squashed.

The President extended the Coronavirus guidelines till April 30th.  Originally it was two weeks, but we all knew that was too optimistic.  So I guess people will be hunkered down at least another month or so.

That was expected.  But lets hope this will all work out in the end.  It's too early to say, but there is some good correlations in the data that shows some areas may have it under control to some degree.  We can only hope.

As a quick update to everyone.  The United States has done more Coronavirus tests than any other country in the world at this point, nearing one million tests. Our numbers have skyrocketed, but don't forget this is part of flattening the curve.  We are seeing who has the virus and isolating and taking care of those people.  Numbers will continue to increase as we continue to test more people, just like South Korea did.

It's hard to compare us to other countries who aren't sharing their full numbers and details like China.  They certainly had more then their 80,000 and probably still do as satellite imagery and insiders are reporting.  But their governments only share what they want us to hear.

I hope people can stay calm during this scary time.  But now for some good news.  US companies are working overtime to make materials that we need in this country.  Apple, General Motors, Chrysler, Ford, etc.  The are all producing products we need.  Private citizens are coming together and working on materials.  As of today the CDC is giving the go-ahead to administer anti-Malaria drugs to patients as the President had initially said.  The CDC says it's working well.  Numerous drug companies have vaccines being tested.  Some big insurance companies are waiving bills.  Landlords are waving rent payments and so much more.  Two hospital ships have arrived to their locations to help cities.  Encouragingly, the area first hit by Coronavirus, Washington State, has seen cases flat line and decline.  Let's hope that trend continues.

This is very alarming...  Video attached at bottom of link.

World Health Organization official appears to dodge reporter’s questions about Taiwan in viral video (https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/who-official-appears-to-dodge-reporters-questions-about-taiwan-in-viral-video).

A top official with the World Health Organization appeared to feign connection issues when a reporter asked about Taiwan and implied it was not a part of China.

A reporter with Radio Television Hong Kong was interviewing senior WHO adviser Bruce Aylward, a Canadian doctor. Aylward seemed to redirect and divert questions about Taiwan during the interview that went viral on social media.

China claims sovereignty over the island, although Taiwan has its own government and refers to itself as the Republic of China. Taiwan is not a member state of the WHO, which is what prompted the reporter to ask if the organization would “reconsider Taiwan’s membership” in light of the coronavirus pandemic.

Aylward stares into the camera and doesn’t answer the question before saying, “I’m sorry, I couldn’t hear your question,” he eventually said.

“OK, let me repeat the question,” the reporter responds before Aylward immediately replies, “No, that’s OK. Let’s move to another one, then.”

The reporter continues to press and said she is “curious” about “Taiwan’s case.”

Aylward then appears to glance down at his keypad before the video feed suddenly shuts down. The reporter decides to call him back and address the issue once more.

“I just want to see if you can comment a bit on how Taiwan has done so far in terms of containing the virus,” she asks.

“Well, we’ve already talked about China,” Aylward responds. “And you know, when you look across all the different areas of China, they’ve actually all done quite a good job. So, with that, I’d like to thank you very much for inviting us to participate, and good luck as you go forward with the battle in Hong Kong.”

^ Alarming indeed. WHO thought 60-70% funded by the US, is seriously being controlled by Chinese pressure in many ways...

Checks coming soon in the mail for all US citizens.  Within weeks, no months.

CDC says (https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/prevent-getting-sick/cloth-face-cover.html) to now wear masks when outside.  Not mandatory.

As we enter this Good Friday, the Friday before Easter, we have many things to be thankful for and positive about in the coming weeks.  It seems social distancing has worked to a degree as the curve has been flattened in west coast states like Washington, Oregon, California, and we are seeing signs it is flattening in the whole country as a whole.  We can only hope this trend continues and loved ones stop being lost.

I just want to wish you all some encouragement as we enter this weekend and I hope you and your family's are well.

It may be a year to 18 months before FDA approval of a vaccine-- if it ever comes.  I'm hoping this silly stay-at-home order won't become an annual thing, like the flu bug or hay fever. Who wants to have to mark offf a good chunk of spring every year on the calendar to put their liives on hold by government mandate?  I want to be a responsible citizen, but dammit, you try looking in these eyes (https://images-wixmp-ed30a86b8c4ca887773594c2.wixmp.com/f/a2e03e8a-33a8-47e2-a3e5-0c592d110fba/dd8ruc4-4f4b2e51-5ced-4dd3-a25e-61707d4db632.jpg?token=eyJ0eXAiOiJKV1QiLCJhbGciOiJIUzI1NiJ9.eyJzdWIiOiJ1cm46YXBwOjdlMGQxODg5ODIyNjQzNzNhNWYwZDQxNWVhMGQyNmUwIiwiaXNzIjoidXJuOmFwcDo3ZTBkMTg4OTgyMjY0MzczYTVmMGQ0MTVlYTBkMjZlMCIsIm9iaiI6W1t7InBhdGgiOiJcL2ZcL2EyZTAzZThhLTMzYTgtNDdlMi1hM2U1LTBjNTkyZDExMGZiYVwvZGQ4cnVjNC00ZjRiMmU1MS01Y2VkLTRkZDMtYTI1ZS02MTcwN2Q0ZGI2MzIuanBnIn1dXSwiYXVkIjpbInVybjpzZXJ2aWNlOmZpbGUuZG93bmxvYWQiXX0._HAs5yFwVsNRLCV7SQY_-jdbYixSLIKmTDDGucEqSCY) and tell him he can't go out to the dumpster today.

But never mind the next round of coronabug --I mean, all these poor bored men and women, stuck indoors for weeks, nothing on TV, squat to do... badda-boom, we see all the hospital maternity wards a-filled to bursting come nine months, if you catch my drift.  So have our lovely forum ladies been good and practicing their social distancing, or shall be seeing a spate of PSF Babies drop next January?    ;)

There are many issues at hand and the increase in cases is just one of them.  But that, looting, rioting, and drowning out any messages other protests are doing.

Where we were one year ago:

I'm sick of the jokes already about Coronavirus.  It isn't something to joke about right now.

Really don't like how people are making coronavirus a joke.

Not the time to be joking about this subject. :P

Oh, come on; one more (https://youtu.be/ShP7FXa39qc?list=PLTC5PFzUSkTXSycyV0S_OY0zV073HE_ci&t=127).   ;)   I mean, c'mon: the economy has ground to a halt, gas prices are skyrocketing, Ahab the Arab is bombing Israel with nukes, gas prices are rising, education is in the dumper, the #MeToo shrews and a group that is just one letter off from a good bowel movement (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Lives_Matter) have hijacked Hollywood, and America has elected Mr. Burns from The Simpsons President.  In these tough times, if we don't learn to laugh a little, we're just going to end up crying.

It's beginning to happen.  Most places are already fully opened in the US, but vaccines are being distributed around the world now too.  We did hit a milestone last Wednesday when Seattle, Washington became the first major city in North America to reach HEARD IMMUNITY which most claim is 70% of the populace being vaccinated.   You can read the full article below.

70% of Seattle Vaccinated; Seattle becomes most vaccinated city major city in the World (https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/seattle-becomes-most-vaccinated-city-in-us-mayor-says/ar-AAKULOU?ocid=uxbndlbing)

The Pacific Northwest has been leading the way for much of the pandemic.  They had the first recorded cased in the US and contained it, then also had the first scary reports of what the disease can do.  But since they, they always remained to keep case counts low and contained for the most part.  Good on them and maybe am model for other regions.
