MERRY CHRISTMAS
Merry Christmas everyone! We are entering that wonderful season of family, gifts, candy canes, and Christmas trees!
So what are you plans for Christmas? Anything you want to get or something you are excited about giving someone else?

We got an actual tree this year. Not a fake one.
For now I'm just focusing more on my classes.

As Darrin said, it is up to the "private sector" t set up a secret Santa. So if you want it, better set it up. ;D

I can't believe it's time to start listening to Christmas music again!
And how cool, a REAL Christmas tree! I got my lil' fake on all decorated already and it's flashing with lights. I'm looking at it right now and it warms my heart. :)

I just moved so I don't have enough money to buy my own little tree right now. Next year tho

My fiance is going to be out of town for most of it so we got a small little charlie brown tree. It's actually pretty cute compared to a big one. I get the feeling next year we're going to have a couple of them in addition to a big tree.

My parents got my sister a small tree, too. I agree, small trees are cute.

Lil' tree's are much easier to set up and put away when the time comes. But don't get me wrong, a beautifully ornamented Christmas tree is magical.

I'm done with all my major Christmas shopping but I want to find some small nick nacks and paddy whacks as stocking stuffers for people.

Is it just me, or are gift cards for people too impersonal... though often the most practical? It allows someone to get what they want as opposed to you risking getting something they do not want?

Gift cards are the easy way out... but I am willing to bet, most people would actually prefer them.

I don't like gift cards as gifts from me. I It's just lazy in my opinion.

Gift cards are strictly less useful than the equivalent amount of cash. If you don't know what to get someone, and find yourself reaching for a gift card: stop, think, and give cash instead.
... or at least do so if I'm your intended recipient. I think maybe some folks find cash distasteful? I've never really understood this; I can see how a personalized gift is preferable to cash, but not how a gift card is...

Cash is always a great gift I think. But when you are giving a gift to a child, you got to get an ACTUAL gift. No gift card.

Speaking of birthdays on or near Christmas, we were at my brother's place when his missus, who's 9 months along, started having pains just after we finished dinner, and he had to rush off to the hospital. Thankfully it was just a false labor, but I daresay that kid is ready to drop any day now. He could be along any time between tonight and MLK Day.
So we got a new Chromebook and one of those fancy boxes that connects your TV to the Web. Hopefully 2018 will be the year we finally say goodbye to the clunky old ObamaCable box (http://www.cepro.com/images/uploads/dtvpal.jpg) I've been griping about for what seems like forever. You're gonna be the uncle who can give the kid tons of sugar before handing them back to their parents. ;) Also wonderful on the new laptop and tv thing. I hope it all works out and if you got some questions with the web tv, I might be able to help. We also got many capable techs here.

I gave to people I know who have Amazon Prime the Alexa Dot or Fire TV based off what they seemed to like better in conversations. Also gave some books too. :)

It works and it is wonderful. :) Very easy to set up. You just need a tv with Wifi and a USB plug. If you have an Amazon Prime account, you get instant access to movies, tv, and a web browser. Great for watching Youtube too! The remote comes with Alexa built in so you can talk to her and get stuff fast.
