Title: Jobs
Post by: Blurr on 2016-02-20 13:44:57
Do you have a job? If so what is it? Or what DO you want to be?

Myself I am an inventory counter for a company called RGIS. Some of you here already know that.

I've worked at a thrift store to help pay for college...trying to work my way to become a biological engineer. 5 more years of schooling...or technically 4, but it could be anywhere from 4-6 more years X_X

I'm currently unemployed and on the lookout for summer work. In the past couple of years I've had jobs at a supermarket, an ice cream store, and cleaning rooms at my dad's motel.

As far as schooling & long-term careers go, I'm currently at community college and will either graduate with my associates in Liberal Arts or transfer, depending on transfer dates and portfolio reviews and all that. I do plan to go to art school and try and get my foot in the door in the animation industry somehow.

I have a job as an assistant manager for a firm that handles logistics and all that jazz.

Graduated college just a lil' bit ago with a major and minor.

Huh, Cool topic Blurr.  Gotta say, this forum really works hard to get to know it's members.. can't say that often.  Alright, so anyways.. I'm working to join the Navy, then work my way into the Blue Angels since that's been my goal ever since I was a kid.  Til then, I'm gonna keep it up in sports and parkour, but being a Blue Angel is what I'm workin for in the long run.

That is pretty cool. :)  It takes HECKA work to be a Blue Angel, tons of training and what not.  That would be crazy cool.

Oh.  Hey.  How's it going?

So yeah.  I am a career counsellor on the side and a sales manager who works at an office and gets to drive around and use company time to eat at Subway on the way to my next account.

You do it at a major, busy airport?  Regional?  Rural?  Municipal?

Post by: Kyrl on 2016-02-23 13:37:47
Right now I work in a tower at a busy airport with a lot of business class jets coming in and out.  We do about 400-600 ops a day on a normal day, but we can get as high as 7-800 during holidays.  Next year I'm transferring to a TRACON, so that'll be radar only.  I'm really excited for that.  Will be a lot busier.
Sorry for being a little vague, just worried about privacy.

Haha yeah, thanks Grape.  And I know it does, but that why I'm trainin so hard.  Cause I know Im gonna make it!

And that's awesome Kyrl!  What do you like about ATC anyways?

A lot of things, but probably the best is how as busy or intense a day is, the work doesn't follow you home.  The moment I unplug, be it on a break or the end of the day, I have nothing but my own time.
When you're working though, its really a feeling you can't describe properly.  When everything works, you feel amazing.  When they don't you still manage to feel pretty good about yourself when you fix the mess :P

I honestly meant for it here.  Lol!  I read Rainy's response to me, then came here, and realized my authority comment could be seen as weird and goofy too.  So I just wanted to state that I was completely in the know.

They can think what they want in the art thread. ;)

I'm unemployed. I'd say what kind of job I want but I'm not sure how to say it without coming off in poor taste, lol. xD

Tomorrow I'm hitting the 'deviantArt Jobs' forum or whatever and going scouting there for the next couple weeks.

Post by: mysteryserpent on 2016-05-27 10:21:52
First, I'm alive!!!!!!! :) Just tired and my work schedule is really throwing me off with timing the past week. When I'm not at work I'm at home eating lunch or I'm with my family members. I haven't been on my computer hardly at all. I can't use my phone at work either unlike my summer job last year. It kind of sucks honestly =( but I don't mind too much. My first paycheck comes today :D I'm excited for pay day XD.

I wanted to start a topic with what dreams are. What are your end goal jobs for a future career? :) Or if you don't know, what are current jobs people have?

Right now I'm working at Pizza Hut as a delivery driver. What that means is each day I drive around and deliver orders. Some days are busy, other days are...not ^^; My lowest delivery day is 5 deliveries all shift. My highest number of deliveries is 21. Some orders are just 4 minutes away, other orders are "far" away with 15 minute driving time one way. I've driven my car more miles than all of last year combined just in the two weeks I've been working XD (didn't drive much at all last year)

Whoops ^^; Sorry about that Blurr. Thank you for letting me know! :D I forgot about that topic...I'll correct it and say something to bring that topic back :)

Also, I'm glad to be back and posting comments again :) I missed a lot :(

I did too...a little...;) Seriously though, I've driven about 900 miles in two weeks time. Each day is between 60-120 miles per day driving back and forth to different houses.

I'm driving all the time. And then my mom wonders why I don't do anything at home.
Well mom, I'm kinda driving the rest of your kids everywhere, gee I wonder why I'm not doing more at home.
But to be fair, when I am home I'm lazy as all heck.

Spent a few decades as a sysadmin at various places, ranging from ISP and search engine corporations to government organizations.  Used to be fun, gradually became less so.

I plan to become a Vet.
Just 7 more years of schooling.
What specialty would you shoot for?  I considered it for a long while, either large animal or wildlife.  Eventually decided I wasn't really cut out for it.
Title: Re: Jobs
Post by: Death Blossom on 2016-05-29 08:37:05
I don't particularly want to do large animals, especially horses. Horse vets hours SUCK! No way am I going to make a living off being called in the middle of the night or around usual quitting time because a horse managed to kick a stick into its stomach. I love horses, but I wouldn't be able to work with those kind of hours.

I want to work with domestic animals and some "exotics", which apparently includes rabbits and Guinea pigs and the like. Wildlife is pretty cool, but I wouldn't be able to have my own practice if I was.

Large animal you really have to do for the love of it, 'cause you sure aren't getting rich off of it.  Well, same for most other specializations outside of surgery, but especially livestock.  It is rather impressive how often animals manage to pick the worst times for their emergencies though.

24x7 on-call is one part of IT that I really grew to hate, so can't really blame you there.  Though running your own business also turns into a sort of 24x7 job since you're still responsible for it even after you've put in your daily 8 hours.
