About four summers ago I got a boil in a... rather intimate area, let's just say.  I could barely even walk because the pain was so intense. I was in absolute agony.  I lay in bed for days on end holding bags of ice on it to numb the pain.  It burned like someone had stubbed out a lit cigar on my--well, you know.  It took weeks for the infection to drain, which was a long, messy process, and heal.

As I recall those are staph infections, which makes them especially nasty.  Sounds like a whole lot of not-fun.

About four summers ago I got a boil...

I think remember you taking about that four summers ago.  I just remember you being in pain as I skimmed around.  Yuck.  Sorry that happened.  Do you care to share how you got it?  Just kidding, we don't need to know that.

Well, according to my mom, my dad used to get them too.  So I'll just say there's a hereditary component, and leave it at that.

How do you even get a boil?  Is it like nasty stuff and it infects the skin?

Yes.   It's caused by a combination of genetics, stress, and poor diet.  It's a pretty nasty infection.  I actually got another one just last year, on my arm.  I think I squeezed the pus out too soon, before it was properly ready, and it left a pretty grody scar.
