"Trolls World Tour" and "Croods 2." Why are they making either of these? Does anyone even want them? Answer... no.
Dreamwork's is losing ground and their reputation is floundering.

This studio used to be among the best... now they don't know what to make after their cash cows are done.

...I would've said for certain than Croods 2 came out years ago.
Surely they've spent so long on it because they have such an ambitious and incredible idea!

Dreamworks is taking risky move with their film, "Trolls: World Tour." It was supposed to release in theaters right about now, but due to the virus, Dreamworks and parent company Comcast decided to have the film go live online and buyable via streaming services or Amazon. It's costs a spendy $20. For a single person watching it, that is expensive. But for a family of many, $20 bucks is much cheaper than going to a theater.
To my knowledge this is the first film to do this under our current world crisis. It will be interesting to see if this is successful or not. If it is, it can further make movie theaters obsolete (they are all struggling and barely in business anyways, bigger blow now that they are forcefully closed). This may see more studios send their new films directly to people instead of a middle man with theaters.

Wow, that is expensive for a single person or even two people to watch. We are in a period though that will see magnificent change after these events. Thanks for bringing this to my attention.

Hmmm. They will need a better way to see how popular films are if they go that route. You won't be able to tell on revenue from theaters anymore.

Fireworks!
So what happened is Universal who distributed the film "Trolls World Tour" decided to release the film for people to buy rent at $19.99 each for one viewing. This of course happened during the start of Coronavirus and theaters were closed. Well... Universal made so much money of Trolls, they made more they are reporting then if they went and released it through the theaters. They more profits (roughly 80%) if they don't have to share profits with theaters. So upon doing so, Universal said all their future films will be released the same was as Trolls was, online and at home.
This of course made AMC (the theater group) furious! They make money on films and said what Universal is doing is against their terms and contract. They didn't even talk to AMC about it. So in short, AMC said heck with you Universal. We are not going to show any more of your films at AMC.
And that is where we are at.

The seemed to use all their creativity up when doing Shrek, Kung Fu Panda, and How To Train Your Dragon. It's such a studio of contrasts. They've had great films, but so many forgettable ones too. It seems like they can't get their stride to continue consistantly.

I saw a TV ad that said the Croods 2 was at theaters? It has a new name now, it's not called CROODS 2.
Theaters? So they didn't do the online release thing? I didn't know theaters were even open.
