Okay, good. The writers are trying to show the audience that anyone has the ability to change if they put their heart and soul into it. But it isn't always easy and not everyone changes... Forgiveness is not earned for simply apologizing. It fully depends on the situation and severity of things. MLP being a kids show really waters down the consequences for doing wrong.
The same can be said for people on a webform for instance. You can have some people who might latch on and grasp at straws too often, or request things too much. Overtime, they use up their "user capital" if you will and their requests become meaningless by others. So just like characters redeeming themselves, real people can redeem themselves also. Improve on things they are wrong at, learn from others, and over time, maybe they will have more status and "user capital" among members.
