According to comScore’s PreAct social media charts, Dunkirk has been one of the top 3 most talked about upcoming releases for each of the past three weeks, sharing the top spots with intensely hyped franchise staples like “Star Wars: The Last Jedi,” “Spider-Man: Homecoming” and “Avengers: Infinity War.” To date, “Dunkirk” has accumulated 1.35 million social media conversations on PreAct, making it the only summer movie outside of “Wonder Woman” and Disney-related IP to score above 1 million conversations on the system. While there’s no guarantee that Harry fans will become a major box office driver, it has helped “Dunkirk” keep up word-of-mouth even before this week’s glowing reviews rolled in and will make the demographic breakdowns a thing to look out for this weekend.

Dunkirk is expected to win big this weekend.

Another BOX OFFICE BOMB everyone!

The film, “Valerian," is a very expensive film that cost $225 million.  It crash and burned with an opening day of $6million and only $17 million through the whole weekend.  Crash and burn.

BOX OFFICE WIN

Meanwhile, “Dunkirk” did a spectacular $50.5 million for the weekend assuring Warner Bros. of a $100 million run–plus plus since they’ll probably re-release when awards season begins in December.

Dunkirk could win again this week.  Currently at $27.5 million and the Emoji movie, which has a 6% approval rating and is hated by every critic and viewers is at $27 million.

Remember those heady days when Al Gore won an Oscar for “An Inconvenient Truth”? The climate change movie caught the zeitgeist of the moment in 2006. The documentary made $25 million domestically and the same amount abroad.

But sequels, especially with similar titles, can be a problem. So “An Inconvenient Sequel” has been a box office dud so far. After 17 days in release, Gore’s follow up has made just $2 million at the box office. The sequel has turned out to be very inconvenient at least financially.  BOX OFFICE BOMB.

BOX OFFICE WEEKEND

We also may have another BOX OFFICE BOMB in the "Nut Job 2."  Did anyone ask for a sequel? Overall, this whole weekend is seeing a very poor movie turn out.  No movie is doing good except Dunkirk which is the oldest and shattering all projections still.  Interesting not that Spider-Man Homecoming dropped really fast from the rankings.  Gone within a week despite critical acclaim.

1. Annabelle: Creation
2. Dunkirk
3. The Nut Job 2 -First week out and barely $8 million.
4. The Dark Tower
5. The emoji Movie

Movie Box Office On Track for Lowest in 25 Years as Spielberg-Lucas “Blockbuster Implosion” Omen Prevails

Source

If things continue as they have, this will be the lowest box office in a quarter century. While there have been bright spots (“Dunkirk”) and surprises (“Baby Driver”) the failures have outweighed everything.

Start with a total write off on “King Arthur” and go from there. Then go to “The Dark Tower.”

One terrible new failure: “Nut Job 2,” they say, is the biggest loser ever in  wide release (4000+) studio movie. It made just over $8 million this weekend.

Even blockbusters that seemed like hits weren’t — “Pirates of the Caribbean 5” was a bloated mess. And “Transformers 5” was so bad that critics wondered why it was made. “The Mummy” also reeked of failure and desperation.

Four years ago, at a USC symposium, famed and very successful directors George Lucas and Steven Spielberg warned the film industry that reliance on blockbusters– tent pole movies that failed would cause an implosion. At first no one took them seriously. But now maybe we’re seeing what they meant.

Spielberg said at the time: “That’s the big danger, and there’s eventually going to be an implosion — or a big meltdown. There’s going to be an implosion where three or four or maybe even a half-dozen mega budget movies are going to go crashing into the ground, and that’s going to change the paradigm.”

Entering week 2 for the Nut job 2 and it has amassed only $10 million total since last week!  This film is going to be a major bomb.

At this point, Annabelle Creation may win this weekend, but some predict, DUNKIRK, in it's 28th day, may win.

'Hitman's Bodyguard' Repeats at #1 During Worst Box Office Weekend in Over 15 Years

No need to sugar coat it, this was a miserable weekend. The combined gross of the top twelve failed to total over $50 million, something that hasn't happened in an August weekend in over 20 years. In fact, the combined $49 million for the top twelve is the worst since the top twelve combined for $43.5 million in late September 2001. Making matters worse, with next weekend seeing no major, new wide releases things aren't going to improve until It arrives on September 8....

AFTER A DUD SUMMER 2017 FOR MOVIES, IT COMES

IT just had one of the most massive and unexpected debuts in cinematic history. The Stephen King adaptation shattered expectations in every way. With an opening weekend take of $123 million, here are just some of the records IT now holds:

*Biggest September opening weekend
*Largest Fall opening
*Biggest opening for a horror film
*Largest number of screens for an R-rated movie
*Second largest R-rated opening
*Fifth highest grossing R-rated horror film of all time

And this is after only a single weekend. Expect IT to continue to break records and become an even bigger phenomenon. But, exactly why did this particular horror film hit so big? Early estimates had the movie tracking at a maximum of $80 million. What led to such an enormous swell of interest? Marketing, nostalgia, timing, and quality.

Even though the movie is being critically acclaimed I still can't wait for the Nostalgia Critic to review it. XD

Amazing but I'm not surprised. There were tons of Youtubers posting about IT before the release which got everyones hyped about it.

So the movies coming out this weekend are....

Chef,
My Little Pony: The Movie
Earth: One Amazing Day
Blade Runner 2049
The Mountain Between Us

And a handful of others.

There are reports of some early showings of MLP:The Movie in Washington State, Oregon, California, Colorado, and Nevada.  As in they are showing it Oct 5 for the mass demand of fans.  That's pretty cool.  Release date officially is Oct 6, 2017.
