I saw it.  It was about what I expected.  Which is to to say: okayish.  I think I liked it more than The Force Awakens, but I really wish they'd put all that money into new Sci Fi universes (or book conversions) instead of milking Star Wars until it's a desiccated corpse.

There is finally a movie I want to see for 2017 other then Dunkirk.  It is Darkest Hour.

Darkest Hour Wikipedia.

It follows Winston Churchill during World War II, and to me that sounds exciting!  It is having a limited released for 2017, but will officially release in 2018.

"Get busy engraving Oldman's name on an Oscar... those fearing that Darkest Hour is nothing but a dull tableau of blowhard stuffed shirts will be relieved to know that they're in for a lively, provocative historical drama that runs on its own nonstop creative fire." - Peter Travers of Rolling Stone.

Glenn Beck spoke highly of the film on his show.   Gary Oldman plays the bucolic, polarizing Prime Minister...  I loved him in Dracula, though he'll have to work hard to live down the bad haircut he sported for that film.

I did finally see DUNKIRK.  That was a brutal but good movie.  If you like war movies, I know you will like that movie.

Going back through some old stuff and I'm surprised none of you knew about Ferdinand the book, read it when I was a kid.

And also surprised no one (? unless I missed it??) talked about The Shape of Water. Is it cuz of the fish? I would talk about it in the 2018 thread, but it did come out in 2017 so I guess it belongs here.

2017 movie, The Shape of Water, has been alleged of plagiarism and stealing content from other works now. The play it allegedly stole from was over 50 years old. This is happened right before Oscar voting.

The film had a budget that was fairly low at $20 million dollars.  It performed very weakly in the box office and made $54 million in the US, which was far more then they paid for it.  So it regained it's loses and did a good job.  It performed well below analyst predictions.  It has won a handful of awards including the best film by the Alliance of Women Film Journalists.  The British Film Academy also gave it the best film of 2017.

The Shape of Water was charming and I thoroughly enjoyed it.  The aesthetic felt kind of bohemian / Parisian.  Which was fine with me!

I'm hearing them talk about it on the John Boy and Billy Big Show as we speak.  Apparently it's like Fifty Shades of Grey meets The Creature from the Black Lagoon.

See, this is what I've been waiting to see for years now-- one of my favorite movies, Revenge of the Creature, remade as a porno.
