'Cyberpunk 2077' Delayed a Third Time After an 'Under-Calculation'

Article

Cyberpunk 2077, one of the most anticipated titles of 2020, has been delayed once again. Now the game's set to arrive on December 10, three weeks after its previously scheduled drop date.

CD Projekt Red, the studio behind The Witcher III, announced the new release date on its social media accounts on Tuesday. Adam Badowski and Marcin Iwinski, the board of directors at the Polish developer and publisher, wrote a lengthy note to the game's fans explaining why they had to push back the release for a third time.

Here's the statement in full:

"Today, we've decided to move the release date of Cyberpunk 2077 by 21 days. Most likely, there are many emotions and questions in your heads, so first and foremost, please accept our humble apologies.

The biggest challenge for us right now is shipping the game on current-gen, next-gen and PC at the same time, which requires us to prepare and test 9 versions of it while working from home. Since Cyberpunk 2077 evolved towards almost being a next-gen title somewhere along the way, we need to make sure everything works well and every version runs smoothly. We're aware it might seem unrealistic when someone says that 21 days can make any difference in such a massive and complex game, but they really do.

Some of you might also be wondering what these words mean in light of us saying we achieved gold master some time ago. Passing certification, or 'going gold,' means the game is ready, can be completed, and has all content in it. But it doesn't mean we stop working on it and raising the quality bar. On the contrary, this is the time where many improvements are being made which will then be distributed via a Day 0 patch. This is the time period we under calculated.

We feel we have an amazing game on our hands and are willing to make every decision, even the hardest ones, if it ultimately leads to you getting a video game you'll fall in in love with."

As mentioned above, this is the third time that CD Projekt Red has announced a delay of Cyberpunk 2077. The game was originally announced at E3 2019 with an initial April 2020 release date window, before being pushed back to September 2020, and then again to November 19.

Apparently people like micro transactions enough so so that this happened.

Activision Blizzard Made $1.2 Billion From Microtransactions In Just Three Months
Call of Duty microtransaction sales are four times higher this year compared to last year.
Article

You always hear people say to support a company via your wallet if you like their practices and what they do... and apparently most people like micro transactions enough to give this company a billion dollars in roughly 90 days...  Is it just kids doing this?

Activision Blizzard has reported new financial numbers for the July-September period, and it was a gigantic quarter for the gaming publisher. One section of the company's business that did particularly well was microtransactions. For the three-month period, Activision Blizzard made $1.2 billion from microtransactions, which are called "in-game net bookings." This is a dramatic 69 percent improvement over the same period last year, when Activision Blizzard made $709 million from in-game net bookings.

Microtransactions are very big business for Activision Blizzard. For the latest reporting period, Activision Blizzard made $1.95 billion in revenue from all of its business combined, so the $1.2 billion figure from microtransactions represents more than half of the company's total revenue.

ctivision's Call of Duty franchise was a bright spot for microtransactions. Microtransaction sales from Modern Warfare and the battle royale game Warzone were four times higher than the same period last year. Growth was always expected, with far more players jumping into Call of Duty than usual this year

Additionally, Activision reported that Modern Warfare's first-year sales are the highest in Call of Duty history, and two-thirds of sales came digitally.

Activision Blizzard also owns King, the makers of Candy Crush. Microtransaction revenue from King's games grew year-over-year, but a specific number was not divulged.

And since we are talking about Activision...

Activision Will Bring All Of Its Franchises To Mobile

And so it begins.  CYBERPUNK 2077 reviews are starting to come in.  The most anticipated game by most since Red Dead Redemption 2.

IGN gave it a 9/10.  They really enjoyed the game.

Now GameSpot has revealed a video that discusses the game.  They had mixed reviews clearly.  The female reviewer didn't like the game while the male reviewer seemed to think it was okay with some greatness.  Both were not sure what the story was really even about, both seemed overwhelmed at the level of content, the amount of bugs, etc.  They did comparisons on the bugs to Bethesda games and the story towards the Witcher III, which they both thought Witcher III was better.  But the male reviewer did praise the writing.  He also said there was so much hype to the game, that maybe expectations were higher than what could realistically be achieved.  Check out the mixed review below.  7/10 score from GameSpot.

Gamespot's review is drawing tons of criticism, mainly from the female reviewer Kallie Plagge.  Video games community is responding to her.

Undiscovered gem of a game being released just before Cyberpunk 2077?  Yes.  Very positive reviews for Immortals Fenyx Rising.  On Playstation, Xbox, and PC.  Most are saying it is the best open world game Ubisoft has made this year, better than their top tier games such as Assassins Creed Valhalla.  Great combot feel too and nice visual flare, with humorous dialogue.

Digital Foundry has a good video on the new Cyberpunk game on base consoles.  The Xbox One is freezing and not loading textures.  It has by far the worst performing machine.  Base PS4 at least gets about 30fps.  The Xbox One was dropping to 10fps.  Ooof.  Even the next gen consoles are struggling.  The way to play it is on a beast PC rig... but that costs way too much money.  The Xbox One X struggles and the PS4 Pro has the most stable performance.

After being heavily defended by players who hadn't played the game yet, Cyberpunk 2077 is being absolutely trashed by nearly everyone except game review magazines.  It is now popular to trash the game.  It has no AI for police car chases (at least not well), and the physics are being torn apart.  People are saying the game lacks physics.  It is being compared constantly to GTA V and how that 2013 year game makes Cyberpunk 2077 look old and dated.  People are comparing it to the original Watch Dogs, which beats Cyberpunk in many regards.  People say the AI citizens are lifeless and don't react.  Not to mention all the graphical issues and unless you have the most expensive rig in the world, this game does not look or run good.

Is it mostly due to overhyping among fans?  Part of that yes, part of it no.  Sadly, almost instantly, CD Projekt Red has gone from one of the most beloved companies, to the most hated. :-\

It looks like Rockstar remains the king at living open worlds.

Many of you will know the significance of this.

The long mysterious and mythical "Golden Eye" Remastered.  It is was real and a mysterious figure has leaked it.  It's blowing up online now.  Good time for some company to capitalize on this.

For Your Eyes Only.
Footage of the cancelled GoldenEye XBLA remake/remaster/port from 2007, full game on 00 Agent, 4k 60FPS and thirty minutes of multiplayer games. Played on Xenia emulator to achieve a higher resolution. If you want more info on why it was cancelled, I recommend taking a look at these two interviews.

Interview about GE XBLA cancellation: https://www.mi6-hq.com/news/index.php...
And information about the guidelines and rules MGM/EON applied to the franchise after GoldenEye 64's success: https://web.archive.org/web/201906140...

As you can see, even if they shorted out the issues with Mr. Yamauchi at Nintendo, they'd have to censor the game heavily for it to adapt to their view and see a potential release. All these changes is exactly what GoldenEye 2010 and Reloaded is. Rare tried to push it again in 2014 for the 2015 release of Rare Replay and hit the same roadblock, even after nobody had the gaming rights.

PS5 vs Xbox Series X Sales – Sony Looks To Have Taken An Early Lead Over Microsoft

Article

Industry analyst Daniel Ahmad has indicated that PS5 has gained an early lead over the Xbox Series X in terms of sales, suggesting Microsoft’s console is just over one million units behind the Sony system.

Yesterday, Sony announced that it had shipped 4.5 million PS5s in 2020, which is the first official figures we’ve seen since the console’s November 2020 launch. Microsoft has’t said anything yet other than the Xbox Series X was the biggest Xbox launch in history.

However, posting on Twitter, Ahmad responded to Ryan McCaffrey’s pondering on how well the Xbox Series X has performed so far compared to PS5. From the look of things, Microsoft’s machine is just over one million units short of its lead competitor.

The PS5 and Xbox Series X both launched within one week of each other in November 2020, although stock has been in limited supply after the initial launch batch sold out.

Xbox Supply Shortages will Continue into 2021

Article

The problem that has dogged the release of the Xbox Series X and Series S shows little sign of abating. Ever since the November 2020 release, demand has far outstripped supply – with pre-orders the first batch sold out within a few hours. And the situation remains unchanged a few months down the line.

Consumers are finding that every restock is gone within the day, leaving many eager gamers empty-handed and frustrated.

Not so much a video game but some tech from Unreal Engine called METAHUMAN.  It's impressive.
