^ That isn't anything new.  We've known this for years.

Russia tried in Afghanistan as well and it didn't work out.  Anyone who has tried in that region has ended up packing up and leaving.

It was 20 years ago today the events of 9/11 happened.  We will never forget the lives taken by senseless terrorists.  The police, firefighters, and medics who ran into the unknown to save lives.  The good samaritans who did the same.  Remember how united the nation became.  American's side by side with one another, helping one another, and united against an enemy. Lest we never forget or we are doomed for failure.  God bless.

Growing up a continent and an ocean away from New York, I remember when this appeared on our news.  It was a feeling of complete shock, because we just witnessed the super power of the world get attacked.  I feel the world was naive to how terrorism acts could be done.  No one in the western world thought of using an airplane for such a sinister act.  Our country and our people were in complete solidarity to our American allies and friends.  Seeing the videos continue to come in, and seeing the heroes who ran into the smoke clouds.  It was social shocking.  Seeing the people who survived come out, completely white and covered in dust and debris.  It was so shocking and sad.  I remember going to school and kids in our class were pretty silent for a few days.  Many didn't understand it all and we had teachers who tried to say things like a great evil attacked the US.  We as a people became quite united from this event and it opened our eyes.

You have my solidarity still and my support.  America has done so much good for the world and to have a super power who promotes freedoms and democracy, as well as provides safety and wellbeing for so many is often overlooked by so many who take it for granted.  They don't realize how different it could be if a certain power takes over with their communist, totalitarian ways.

I will never forget 9/11 and I hope American's and the rest of the world
never forget it either.

I remember it so vividly myself.  I always reflect on this day, it usually hits me the week before or so.  I start going back and watching newscasts of it happening and having all those raw feelings flood in again.  The fear, the unknown.

America's society really can be split in a before 9/11 and after time.  It was that huge of an event.

Interesting fact.  Freedom One World Trade Center, which replaced the two original towers, stands at exactly 1776 feet tall.  That of course is for our nation's signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776.

Thank you to the many who did heroic acts and those who served after.  That uniting of the country for the months that followed after that event was a feeling I long for again as a society.  I wish we could get there again.  It's sad it took one of our worst events in history to have everyone unite.  So much has changed since 9/11 and it's crazy to think we are 20 years beyond these events.  They still see so close.

I will never forget the moment I stared at the TV screen in shock and disbelief, being nine months pregnant, laying my hand on my belly wondering what kind of world my baby would be born into.

Many things have happened since then, good and bad, and I will never give up hope that one day we all will live in peace.

^ Your comment really captures that scary uncertainty that I felt that day.  Uncertainty is a scary thing when you truly have no control.

It was that day that made me know I was going to serve my community.  I can gladly say, I have done that with my career choice and I wouldn't change it for the world.

Amen.

Thanks for the solidarity by so many here.  It was such a horrifying event and the losing family and friends... it was so unexpected.  I cannot thank enough those who went into the danger zone to try and do what they could.  How many countless souls went in to help and never came out.  It breaks my heart just thinking about it.

Then all those who served and went overseas from all the allied nations.

It was a moment in time that truly changed society as whole.

Thank you for bringing this up and everyone taking some time to reflect and share.  I hope something like this never happens again and I do truly thank the people who gave their all for so many.

I last posted this cover in a forum much like this exactly ten years ago today.

Things have changed phenomenally even since 2011, much less 2001.  We elected a black President (sure, the wrong one, but, still...).  America became post-modern, post-racial, post#Me Too, post-Covid, Postmates.
We've seen countless celebrity births, adoptions, deaths, divorces, falls from grace, and surprise comebacks; we've watched endless reboots, revivals, sequels, prequels, Tiger this'es and Cutie that'ses, a few gems, and megatons of outright bombs from Hollywood (or at least, its cheaper Northern cousin Ottowa.) They gave Andy Richter two shows on Fox, for Chris'sakes.   ::)  A President died, a Pope resigned, and I've had to retire both my folders of Michael Jackson and Ross Perot jokes. We legalized gay marriage in all states, pot in 19--plus a couple of U.S territories and a few Indian tribal nation--and I think a brother can even legally marry his sister in New Jersey.  ;D   Since I've drawn that issue, a lot has happened for me personally: I published several books, I became an uncle four or five times over, I've grown markedly grey, I've moved to a new city and into a new place, I've buried a few good friends, and if I had a regret, I'd say it's that I never did try that fifth place on Fish Street--er--I mean, that fish place on 5th Street.  And, of course, I found this forum, and scores of new friends. So all in all, not doing too bad.    ^b-

It was a harrowing event but I like to think the nation grew better because of it.  Now we have people growing up who weren't alive during those events and have no idea what it is besides it being a section in their history book.  They have no emotional impact from it and with how US schools are teaching anti-Americanism, we can forget any form of patriotism in the future.  The left got what it has wanted sadly.  They control the media, the educational system, and so much more.  It's all their narrative.

What I wouldn't give to go back to those weeks following 9/11.  The culture, the people, everything was so united and wonderful.

I'm scared. ;D
