I'm depressed with the state of things right now... I've just been tuning out the news and social media to the best of my ability, but I don't want to be completely out of the loop.

I have a family member and a friend in law enforcement, it's causing me to take all of these negative comments personally. I can't help it, I care about my family. I can't sit there and say all cops are bad or wish ill will on another person, because I know it's not true and it makes me feel like scum. Voicing my opinion usually ends badly for me, heck this comment alone will probably end up backfiring in my face. lol.

The only way I can deal with this type of stress and anxiety and depression is to laugh, make jokes, even if some of them are rather grim or dark. Sorry if this is sort of off topic. I guess you could say, I'm still processing a lot of information and dealing with my anxiety over covid.

Won't backfire at all.  These blanket statements people are saying such as "all cops are bad" and "Defund the police" truly mean nothing.  We know not all police are bad.  We know the majority are not.  We know defunding police won't solve anything.

We see what anarchism is capable of and we are seeing a inner growth or radicalism.  It is filled with people who want to fundamentally alter our society and landscape. Erase and rewrite history how they see fit.  We've seen this happen in many countries like China, Venezuela, etc.  We think "oh that can't happen here" but it most certainly can.  It's why we need to take these riots seriously.  We can't allow the continued destruction of our history, laws, and society.  It's good to have perspective, so you comment is much appreciated.

Voicing your opinion won't end badly here.  Only people who truly don't value the freedom of speech devalue and drown out differing opinions.

I'd like to thank you for taking the time to respond to my comment.

This madness personally effects me, I have to observe people verbally attack my friend and family member online and offline. My store shutdown early because of a possible rioters and looters in the area. I see people praising this destruction, down with the big retail stores. I work at one of these retail stores. I've lost a lot of respect for artists that I follow on FA because they're only fueling the fire, any opinion that doesn't match their opinion perfectly ends with an insult to invalidate that different opinion and a block so they don't have to see it.

Social media has become antisocial media, because one wrong hashtag will end with a lot of insults and a lot of blocks. It's made me take a step back from the furry community. It's made me take a step back from social media. It's made me take a step back from chilling on the internet.

I probably need a break from the net, but with the big bad bug still floating around... That's not really an option.

Maybe you know, maybe you don't, but the hatred and destruction you see is a minority. Especially online too.  The places on social media that we tend to gravitate to are filled mainly by a subset of people who think a certain way.  They claim to be open minded, but if you share a differing opinion you are torn down.

If you jump into reality (usually outside of social media or in real life) you will see differing opinions.  Another reason people may think society thinks a certain way is because the tech companies that run these social media outlets are usually run by people who think the same way as their followers and the one's who use their platform.  Today this is becoming tricky with social media outlets now pushing certain news stories, but still hiding behind the banner that they aren't news agencies... even though they promote and show only what they feel is "correct."  They want to be able to label what is "incorrect" and control the thought process.  They of course will skew news into their political viewpoint and the less informed social media crowd (who usually only reads headlines) will believe whatever is thrown at them and think they are "educated on the subject matter."

Whoow.  Sorry.  I could keep going but I won't.  I am sorry for your business.  I too understand what it is like to have law enforcement family and trying to run my own business. First we got punched by Covid.  Now we got looters and anarchists ruining our businesses.  How does that help? Well really, they aren't there for what they say they are there for.  They are there for a fundamental breakdown of society to run it how probably their professors spewed it out to them.  "In a perfect" and "idealistic" world or something...

It's messed up.  Very depressing and there never seems to be any good news.  Just negative, negative, negative.  It keeps kicking us while we are down.  The media is part of the problem, divisive, and vomiting out partisan politics and their own viewpoints veiled as "news."  Some don't even try to hide it anymore.  In the rare chance they are called out for their lies, they don't care.  They work with the establishment political party they are tied to and spew out more collusion, hoaxes, and lies.

The internet, especially social media is a horrible place.  It makes you reevaluate who you consider "Friends" and if you end your night feeling worse than before your started, it's probably best to take a break or get off the internet to some degree.  You will probably feel better.  Toxicity reigns at all ends, but especially amongst websites that claim to "welcome all viewpoints"... as long as it is their own viewpoint that slants heavily to the left.

Find a better online community if you must.  There is a lot of good on the internet, you just have to know where to find it and surround yourself with it.  Good in, good out.  Bad in, bad out. If you are just as sick as most people who get "virtue signaled" by their social media website telling them out great their beliefs are, or which groups they support, and what they believe, their's a good chance you are one a Tumblr, DeviantArt, Facebook, etc type group.  There are many alternatives.

Many are.  It's unfortunate, but when our news is negative all the time, it's tough.  It's constant blasting and the degradation of society by certain political factions.  It makes one want to leave the urban areas and hide out in a peaceful cabin by a stream.

Social media is a huge place of malice right now.  I stay away from it myself.  There is still a lot of good news, you just have to know where to find it.  I myself could do a better job when aggregating news stories for the site, to find more positive stories too.  I try to be fair, but I realize I post more pro-conservative than some of my colleagues here who are more straight down the middle, but fair.

I hope you can find a balance.  Your views and opinions are always welcome here.  You won't be shut down or talked down to as you would other sites.

Thanks for the love, I think a lot of this is just from being stuck indoors. This stupid pandemic has put everything on hold. My activities are limited too gaming and television and the stray thoughts in my head. My only taste of the outside world is work, and being forced to wear a mask for eight hours a day, five days a week. Well it drives me crazy... I usually feel sick by the end of my shift, probably from breathing/smelling my own breath. It's just a combination of things that make me feel like a balloon that's ready to burst.

Humor is how I process a lot of information, I'll make a meme that I would never post on Facebook or Twitter just to make myself laugh. I might share it here.

I appreciate you all taking time out of your day to respond to my outburst. Thank you. I'd give you all a hug if we weren't social distancing. lol

Simpsons' showrunners say:  'From here on out, only actors of color will voice non-white characters'

Okay, first of all, isn't every character on The Simpsons non-white?  I mean, cripes, 97% of the cast is yellow.    ::)

Secondly, I forsee nothing but trouble coming from this.  It simply isn't cost-effective. If you've got a white actor who can imitate Chris Rock, Redd Foxx,  Cheech Marin, Tommy Chong, and an angry black guy with equal ease, (and here I hold up a large sign with an arrow pointing to me, illuminated with flashing lights and playing "Stars and Stripes Forever"), why not hire him instead of having to pay six actors with only passable readings to offer just because they happen to be the right race? B.T.-dubs, I can also do a Chinese houseboy, but maybe in this climate I shouldn't brag about that too much.     ;D

Thirdly, if only minority actors can voice non-white characters, what's to stop them from demanding more money up front for their work? A peripheral black, Hispanic, or Asian character who has two or three lines in a script could concievably net his v.a. as much as a white actor who reads eight of 10 pages in the same session... and then the goddamn union will be on you like a case of pecker-rash on a hot, humid July day.

We can't kowtow to paranoia and allow "Black Lives Matter"-era thinking have us in a panic, forcing those behind our favorite shows to dump or recast beloved longstanding ancillary characters, any more than we did the overreactioanary #MeToo bullshit of two years to throw Hollywood into that whole hormonal snit three years ago that had us looking under every bed and casting couch for predatory boogeymen, disrupting innumerable Hollywood projects and picking apart dozens of Tinseltown reputations.  It sets a bad precedent.
