WOW!  You are right, MasterX.  I finally found just ONE topic bringing this up.  Seems like most people haven't noticed.  But free unlimited gems seem to be a thing.  It is for me too.

They do. They not only adapt events from the show but also the comics, bringing in new characters to buy. I admit I'm guilty of giving that game a fair share of money.

I gave money a few times early on (I don't play enough anymore) but I thankfully realized that I was just throwing my money away for a character that literally did.... NOTHING.  If the characters actually added some gameplay or your could interact with them, it would be another story.  But they literally walk around and do nothing.  There is nothing interactive or new with these re-skinned characters.
