Part of tasting our food is smell, so if our sinuses are stuffed up or impaired food tastes flat. I think it's why people often describe bad food as tasting like some horrible bodily excretion or a substance they've never actually eaten, because likely they've smelled it and the two senses are inexorably entwined.
