I was joking. ;)

But I think it's simply because in most of the promo's we mainly see this monkey and some big samurai guy.  We rarely see Kubo and he is mostly masked and covered up by armor or something.

He doesn't sound like a boy in the promo's and he's hard to see.  Very forgettable since all I remember is the monkey and the armor big guy.

I think it is his hair, his facial structure, and his dress attire.  He sort of looks like a girl.

Really? I always thought he was a boy. To me he sounded like a boy. And yeah, they advertise Monkey a lot (for good reason though, she's an important character). And yeah, he rarely talks in the promos. So I guess that's why? But why assume girl if you don't see him because he's covered in armor?

But it's feudal Japan. They wear robes. I guess people don't know it takes place in feudal Japan?

Kubo has the highest ratings so far of any of their films, so lets help it rakes in the money for them.

Woohoo! It definitely deserves it. I'd gush more about the movie but spoilers. So much spoilers.

Yeah, I'm impressed they do what they do with only $60m spent on every film.  That is very low for an animated feature.
