What does Easter mean to you guys? =) Is there any traditions you have?
Easter is why I went home over the weekend XD It's a big deal for my family, and not just for religion reasons. There's also the tradition of an Easter Egg hunt, and although I'm old now XD , I have never actually hid the eggs until today. Hiding eggs...it was kinda tedious to be honest. It was fun =) My mom does a silly tradition where she puts 4 different eggs among the candy eggs and those 4 eggs have either a quarter, a half dollar, a gold dollar coin, or a 1 dollar bill. those are the eggs that are good ;) XDD Seriously though, it was a fun egg hunt.
I also saw and talked with my grandparents. They're...getting really old =( I don't know how much longer they'll be around, that's how old they looked this year. I don't get to see them often, but when I do I'm glad I have the chance to see them.

What does Easter mean to me? ??? Let me think about it...
...to me, Easter is Easter. ;D
-
It's just Easter.
I go to the long af masses, sing (the only saving grace of mass for me), and then go home. We don't have big dinners. We never did. We may have family over, have some small party. Hang with family. That's it.
We never did Easter egg hunts, there was no chocolate, no bunnies. Just mass, and family.
-
AF masses? I know Mass :D but I don't know what af means. Singing is awesome ^^ I'm a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints =) I love Easter. It's a good time of the year.
-
Lots of food!
-
Besides the religious significance, of course... it means tomorrow Peeps, jellybeans, and chocolate eggs go on sale for half-price.
-

"long af masses" = long as f*ck masses.
I'm Christian, I think? I don't know. My church is named after the miracle at Lourdes, France.
-
Easter isn't a big deal to me, and it doesn't mean much to me.
-
I'm Christian, I think? I don't know. My church is named after the miracle at Lourdes, France.
- Do you believe that there is a single God (optionally having several aspects, but still ultimately being just one)?
- Do you believe the New Testament is, at the least, divinely inspired by said God?
- Do you believe that Jesus of Nazareth was not just your average Joe, or even your average prophet, but the honest-to-goodness "Son of God" (fairly broad interpretations of that phrase count)?
If yes to all the above, then you're probably Christian!
If not, but you still have a >50% confidence in the existence of a God, then between that and regularly attending a Christian church you probably still count as Christian.
Indeed, the only situation I can imagine where you'd be regularly attending a church and yet not count as a Christian would be if you were attending purely due to social factors, while belonging to another faith or being functionally agnostic or atheist. If you belonged to another faith you wouldn't be questioning whether you're a Christian, so perhaps you don't feel the evidence for the existence of any God is particularly strong? In which case you can still be culturally Christian without being a believer, but what terms you use to label yourself in that situation are pretty much up to you.
I for one am a filthy heathen, but I never pass up the opportunity to consume chocolate in quantities that are usually socially unacceptable.

Easter is a wonderful day of celebration. We celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Usually we attend church, and have brunch with a bunch of good food. Often there is a nice dinner to go with it.
Then the next day, grocery stores mark down their easter candy!!!
-
I miss egg hunts when I was young. :) I love Easter time because I get to see family and we get to relax. Easter service is always really good. :)
-
Heh heh, thanks Yasl. I was more questioning whether I was Christian or Catholic.
But yeah, Easter is all about the resurrection of Jesus Christ in my house. That's why we didn't really do the Easter egg hunt stuff.
-
I'm honestly pleasantly surprised :D Religion isn't a topic that's talked about very often these days, especially online. It's way too easy for people to get offended sometimes with religion, and honestly there's good reason for that. Pushy religious people are not just annoying, they can be rude and harsh towards people who don't believe the same way they themselves believe and it really messes with religion in general.
I believe in Jesus Christ too ^^
Also Leapingriver, thanks for the explination. I wasn't sure what af meant. I don't know how long is long to you though XD
-
My church's normal masses are at most an hour. Easter masses range from an hour and thirty minutes to an hour and 45 minutes. And most of that is the collection baskets, the readings (so freaking long), etc. It just gets boring for me. I prefer to be singing.
-
There is a lot of religious people here that hold a faith. I am pleasantly surprised. :)
I have mentioned before I believe in God and am a Christian. Happy Easter guys.
-
I hope you guys had a nice Easter. I know I had a good one. I had breakfast really early with my girl, then we met up with family, went to church, and THEN had brunch too! Ha ha! So much food before noon! I probably gained 840lbs. Yep. Sticking by that number.
I actually had an Easter pic I was gonna release. I just never finished it in time.
-
So, I'm I the only one here that's not a Christian?
-
No. Blurr isn't religious either.
-
Heh heh, thanks Yasl. I was more questioning whether I was Christian or Catholic.
Ah, whoops! In that case, I would say: both!
All Catholics are members of the Christian faith, implicitly / by definition. Indeed, the Catholic church claims descent from the Roman Christian religion established around ~300AD, and enforced as the one true Roman state religion by the Edict of Thessalonica in 385, which displaced the old Roman pagan system. "Catholic" comes from the Greek "katholikos", meaning "Universal", and referred to the Christian Church at large, as distinguished from the various local sects that flourished at that time.

Catholicism and Christianity go hand in hand. In overarching everything-ness, they are Christian.
One could also say Mormonism is under the Christian banner too. Though they do certainly have different beliefs and have added the Book of Mormon as well and the Holy Bible to their readings and understanding. Many Mormons do not accept the Trinitarian views of orthodox Nicene Christianity, which were agreed upon by Christians back during the Nicene-Constantinopolitan Creed. That means, all these groups, or sects of Christianity (Roman Catholic, Eastern Orthodox, Oriental Orthodox, Anglican, major Protestant denominations) all agreed to accept what the Nicene-Constantinopolitan Creed said. Mormonism has not accepted it. This was agreed upon in 325 and then was updated at the First Council of Constantinople in 381. You can view the difference between the two agreements here (http://ksuweb.kennesaw.edu/~tkeene/ogtNicaeanCreed.pdf).
They all just have some different beliefs or viewpoints based on who founded it.
-
I have a Mormon friend (let's use that term loosely). His explanation of his beliefs are.... Frustrating?
He's very pushy about them, and tries to preach it as the most right thing there is, and I'm just sitting here like "bruh... Just shut up please. You're writing a fic about ponies. You don't have to include all your religious beliefs into it. Just let me edit your words in peace."
-
I'm so old for Easter these days. XD It's almost like any other day to me now, really. Was fun though as a kid to go looking for eggs or getting treats and coloring books in baskets. :3 Not to mention the Rankin-Bass specials. XD
-
I remember growing up, easter was always fun. I loved the candy and egg hunts, and didn't fully understand the true meaning to the celebration. As I got older, I got it.
Now days though, it is similar to any other day for me. I appreciate the day, and understand why it is celebrated. If I get with family, I happily partake, and I might even go chase some eggs with the cousins and kids and all. ;) Your never too old for Easter fun... right?
-
No. Blurr isn't religious either.
Me neither.
-
Anyone get some marked down candy yet? I bought a bag of milk chocolate eggs. :)
-
I didn't get chocolate. I just went to a family get together like every year
-
What?! No chocolate? I'm sorry, you want a hug?
-
Where's my hug D: I never got chocolate for Easter! Lol jk, but that sucks Blurr. Couldn't you have snagged some chocolates from the bag or something? I kinda doubt your parents would be like "NO CHOCOLATE FOR U! U 2 OLD!"

Today honestly was a rough day for me :( but man...I was not expecting this. I'm seriously happy I saw this ^^ The reason why is because I'm a Mormon. The full name of our church is different, but Mormon is a nickname that is a lot less of a mouthful to say. The nickname makes a lot of sense because of the Book of Mormon, and we do believe in the Bible too :D
LP, I know people who are pushy like that :( Mormon, Catholic, Muslim, Jew, there's pushy people in every religion and it makes me sad. If someone wants to talk about religion that's fine, but pushing religious views and beliefs on someone who doesn't know much about a certain religion can be not just awkward, but offensive X_X
Also, this may sound odd, but...religion in a pony story sounds awfully forced ^^;. I mean, I don't blame him, but I'm a Mormon too and it's not a good idea to be that eager to show what you believe in a pony story of all things, unless for some reason religion became what a person wanted in a pony story XD
-
Ive seen religious views in pony comics. Even Scootaloo's Scootaquest has religion laced in it. Whether it has meaning or just for fun I dont know. But Twi had a Holy Bible on her book shelf. We see churches in backgrounds and Applejack eveb prayed, though never specific.
-
See stuff like that is okay. It's subtle. It's not in your face like "YOU SHOULD BE RELIGIOUS TOO!!1!one!"
There are some stories that are just like... Nu. Plz. I just wanted a story about ponies.
-

I forgot about that. But yeah, it was done fine because it wasn't in your face and it wasn't the central point of the comic. The comic is still character driven.

Sorry you had a rough day, heck, kind of a rough few weeks for you. But I know it will get better. Glad I helped maybe clear some things up. I actually had this very discussion again today with someone else, then we went on and talked about Catholicism and Islam. Very interesting topics, but very few can be non judgmental about it.

Putting our religions in pony stories makes no sense, considering their deities walk among them. Unless you wanna squeeze greek/roman stuff in there (which I'm very guilty of doing, especially giving Celestia a boner for Apollo's legend XD )
-
(I see that some of the stuff (http://psfforum.com/index.php?topic=276.msg13131#msg13131) said in this topic had been long forgotten...)
Sooo, I am bringing this topic back up, because... Easter. ;)
-
Well it is Easter time.
-
And that's why I brought it back up. Easter. ;p
-

Eh, not much different from the mainstream comics. The early Superman stories were written and drawn by nice Jewish boys. At least one character in DC Comics professes atheism, despite gods existing freely and having met one personally. Wonder Woman professes a strong faith, and little wonder-- Hephaestus built her bracelets breastplate, she knows Ares, god of war, and I believe her "father" is no less than Hades, ruler of the underworld. Hawkgirl's people once worshiped a brutal Cthulhu-esque monster. The New Gods, a race of powerful aliens who have existed since time immemorial, draw heavily from Judeo-Christian teachings. Likewise, Marvel has Thor, and takes much of his background and characters from Norse mythology. So religion and comic books have always been inexorably tied.
-
There's still no in universe reason why ponies would know what Christianity is. The only Jesus they have is alive in a blowing alley.
Much different than superheroes who live in our world and are exposed to our religions. Reading comprehension and all that.
-
Oh my god, that pedophile pony? Yeah, super creepy reference.
-
Happy Easter! :D
-
Happy Easter, Smiles!
-
Thank you, Miggs!
-
Happy Easter everyone.
-
Unfortunately not much happy for me. I can't even spend it with my brother. I'm traveling back to my college today. And missing everything.
I hope everyone else's is a happy time though.
-
Aww. :-\
Well... happy Easter all the same. Hope you'll still find a bit of happiness today, no matter how it happens. ^-^
-
(http://psfforum.com/Smileys/default/azn.gif) < I don't remember this smiley... is this new? Where did it come from?
-
It's always been there. And it's really not the first time it's been used. •_•
To type it: ^ - ^
-
Hope everyone had a good easter.
-
Me too
-
Good Easter and Passover to you all.
-
Had a good Easter. Didn't do a whole lot, remembered the reason for the season and all, and then just sort of chilled.
-
What all did you do?
-
Well, I didn't make it to church as planned, something came up and we were invited last minute to a friend's, and we were gonna go, so we cancelled church (horrible I know) and got ready to go see them, then they called us back and said something came up and they had to cancel too... so then we cancelled and missed church. So then we sat at home and did nothing but laze around.
-
Oh, that is kinda lame though. They invited you then bailed?
-
Well, it was a legitimate reason. They got a call from a family member who needed their help, sort of a mini emergency. They had to do that.
-
Well at least it was a real reason and not just... we're lame!
-
What did you do?
-
I got together with family, friends, cousins, Uncles and Aunts. Sort of a mini family get together.
-
Thats cool. :) Good times.
-
It was pretty good times. Lots of people and food. Sort of a potluck!
-
I love potlucks. Our church had one on Sunday... I should have gone! Well that is awesome though you had food and family. The two F's!
-
I do too. :D So many different foods to snack on. I will probably gain like 10 pounds. ;D :P
-
Three days to make that potato salad! THREE DAYS! :D I doubt you will gain ten pounds. You're probably as light as a feather.
-
Heh, thank you. :D
-
Don't mention it. One cheat day won't hurt anything. ;)
-
It is when you start adding cheat days in a row that they start adding up. ;) Though I have been good the past week.
I'm like average. I'm not overweight at all, but ya... so. I'm shorter and I got to keep myself looking good. ;) Good and cute? Lets go with that. Good and cute.
-
Thats awesome though. I got to keep myself average and average. So average.
-
Naw! I bet you are better then average.
-
Just square old average. Average Joe.
-
Do you have like muscles or anything?
-
I do. But your won't notice them. ;) I got decent arm strength though.
-
All that drawing. ;)
-
Yeah, doing pen weights everyday. Bout a hundred on each arm.
*Kisses my arms.*
-
Those arms are lethal weapons.
-
You know it babe. Lol. j/k
-
Kinda quiet here tonight in our Easter themed convo.
-
Just us and all these Easter Eggs.
-
You do any easter egg hunt by yourself yesterday?
-
Pfff, no! I totally would have too. But alas, I had no plastic eggs. Only real eggs which were for food.
-
Hehe. You have a gf thought, right? Did you guys do anything?
-
I do, yes. We didn't do much of anything. Just did our own thing then watched some telly a bit.
-
You two live together?
-
Yes, much of the time. But she has her parents place too that she stays at for work sometimes.
-
So you are alone sometimes too then.
-
Few days at a time sometimes.
-
How long have you been together?
-
Four years.
-
You gonna get pop the question?
-
We don't know if we are both ready for that yet. We sorta don't want to settle down and have the freedom to do whatever still.
-
I get you. Be careful though, sometimes women sort of wander off.
-
I've heard that, like if you wait too long. I don't think she would do something like that. ;D
-
Lot of guys think that. Too trusting, give us too much credit. ;)
-
Wow, bashing your own sex? ;)
-
Lil' bit. We wanna feel loved.
-
We should probably move on before people hate us and this convo. ;)
-
I've heard that, like if you wait too long. I don't think she would do something like that. ;D
If you do wait to long they do leave. Happened to my uncle. He was gonna propose to...
But yeah, this is Easter, not PSF chat.
-
Okay, okay, moving on. :)
-
You agree too, LP? Two women telling me this about their own kind. But she even said she doesn't want to get married yet... would she just be telling me that... just for no reason?
-
You know her better then us, Silver. If you are not ready for a family, and she isn't either, you do what you know is right. ;D Sorry to get you thinking about this.
-
Marriage doesn't automatically = I want babies, pump me full of semen.
But again, move this to PSF Chat. This has strayed far from Easter talk.
-
Okay, thanks guys. I'm good, Raine. :D Okay, back to Easter.
-
Eater talk.
Yeah, we need a food topic for that. ;) *Ribs you jokingly.*
-
Well I can't really say much. I didn't get to hunt eggs with my neice. I just spent my Easter in a hot van with no AC smooshed next to a bunch of people.
I got to dye eggs at least.
-
Well I can't really say much. I didn't get to hunt eggs with my neice. I just spent my Easter in a hot van with no AC smooshed next to a bunch of people.
Sounds like a fun time. Bleeeeh. :P
-
I spent Easter in a dress
-
If dying of heat stroke is fun, yeah sure XP
-
That isn't something I would proudly proclaim, Blurr. ;)
-
I will forever be proud of princess deadpool, SW
-
Why? Got something against guys in dresses? Huh huh, tough guy *grins my fist into my palm*
-
I won't fight you, LP. Lol.
-
Got my eyes on you
-
I've got my eyes on a computer screen.
-
I spent Easter in a dress
Why? Got something against guys in dresses? Huh huh, tough guy *grins my fist into my palm*
Hey, Benny Hill made a whole career out of of it.
-
I was out in public today... and found a hidden Easter Egg someone forgot to collect. :) It had a Hershey Kiss in it.
-
Uh... Careful with that. Could've been laced. Who knows.
-
Hahaha! If we don't hear back from APD in a few days...
-
He wouldn't have eaten it. I am pretty sure of that.
Please tell us you didn't eat it, APD....
-
I didn't eat it! Lol! Who picks something up from public and just eats it? lol.
-
Well you never know
-
Well that is a relief. ;)
-
Indeed.
