I think they are worthy answers.  I like to see effort, so thanks, Silver.

As far as French military might goes, the very first automobile accident occurred in France when an early steam powered-vehicle got out of control, barreled along at all of two miles an hour-- its top speed-- and knocked down a stone wall on a military base. The creator's reputation was ruined, and he later died penniless and in exile.   The jokes just write themselves.

I think of America as a patchwork quilt, myself.  Many pieces, many colors, sewn together, working in relative harmony..  Sometimes a stitch or two pops loose.  Sometimes a piece tears away. Sometimes the dog accidentally wees on it.

It makes you wonder how horribly built that stone wall was for a military base.  I would be more concerned about their defensive measures now over anything.

We also got stuff happening that is pretty important, and besides all the constant Islamic terrorist attacks in Germany, Denmark, and other parts of Europe.... we got this too.

Japan plans to send largest warship to South China Sea, sources say.

So what is going on here, is Japan's Prez Abe is working with other Asian countries and the US to a lesser degree, to assert Japanese power again.  Their defense force is just that, defensive, but they are working on ways to actually build an Army, and the US is probably going to allow them to start making their army/navy great again.  Other Asian countries are feeling threatened by China and North Korea, so they are building an alliance against the in times of war.

U.S. Navy SEALs to take part in joint drills in S. Korea, simulates North Korea landing.

Turkey and the Netherlands clash.
U.S. deploys attack drones to South Korea amid tension with North.

Trump, Merkel to meet.

Phillipine Pres. Duterte asks military to tell China vast sea area 'is ours'

Phillipines is a weird case, since their president is all over the board.  He wants closer ties to China and wants to cut ties with the US... yet now he wants to assert authority on China?  This man doesn't know how to make friends, does he?

What makes this so troubling with the whole southeast Asia thing is... well... it can actually explode.  There are many strong naval powers down there and one that wants to assert itself (rightfully or not) as a world superpower.  It has the population...

The Philippines president is playing with fire and being rather negligent in what he says... much like Pres. Trump at times.

The training mission by the US Navy and South Korean Navy is a show of force not only to North Korea, but to China, saying, "hey!  We still dominate the seas, even if it's right next to you."

China isn't a blue water navy yet AND they know their weakness if it came to a naval blockade.  Yes it would hurt the world if China was hurt economically, but when it comes to economics or full blown war.... the war economy will resurge.

We do have to be worried about China's manufacturing capability though.  With a nation developed in industry like theirs, they could probably outdo anything the US could have done in WWII.  Of course, they couldn't have back then, but today, they could produce a ton.  Maybe not great quality... and maybe not as technologically advanced... but sometimes numbers wins.

That is a really real worry.  You got Vietnam cozying up with whomever will side with them, so far Japan and the US, Singapore, etc... and they are building up their fleets too.  No one country of these Southeast Asian countries could stop China, but together they could certainly slow things down.  Taiwan has some of the most capable navy ships in the region rivaling China, simply because the US supplies and funds a lot of it.

No matter what, it is dangerous.  The US or any of her allies taking sides on the South China Sea ordeal could be like choosing and ethnic tribal group in Afghanistan to support... you don't know all the hidden layers.

Well, it will eventually come to a numbers game, and that game would side with Vietnam getting the US support. Vietnam and the Philippines.  Singapore won't get any territory... not that they should anyways.

Nearly 80% of Vietnamese people in Vietnam view the US very favorably too according to a 2015 study

A lot of those south eastern Asian countries view upon the US very highly.  It is amazing how high it is with Vietnam.  They knew the US was trying to help them from communism back during the war, and it wasn't against the people, but against the government.

Shame so many lives were lost on both sides over that.

I think the Vietnam War was a sad part off history.  Really a shame how it all went down.  But you have to hand it to the Vietnamese, they held back the American's and her allies, and held back China multiple times.

Their northern section of the country is geographically level with China and allowed many Chinese dynasties to try and take over.  Vietnamese are amazing defensive fighters, never instigating the wars themselves unless you count the border raids in the 1970s into Thailand, but that was to kill opposition, not actually take land.

And into Cambodia at the time too.  China and the US supported NOT the Vietnamese during that too.
