Anyone here cook? Wanna brag about something you made or ask how to make something? Post here!
-
I don't personally cook, but I gotta say, my families Spanish food is to die for. It's some of the best food around I feel.
-
I have chili in my slowcooker. It'll be done tomorrow morning in time for work. Whole house is starting to smell great <3
-
Ooooh, chili... I love chili.
-
Yea its the best. Plus I'm making enough to last me a good week and a half.
-
im learning
-
*points to my mom* She's the cook in my family. I wish I could brag about something...but I can't. Not in a million years XD
On my two year mission I had to learn to cook for the first time. Eggs. Eggs and rice and bread. Also some cereal but that's not cooking ;)
The fanciest I've ever gotten is making my own pizza from scratch with flour and dough. By far the strangest thing I've had to make is an African dish that I can't remember what the technical name of it is. Basically it is breaded soup with meaty stuff packed inside the breaded parts of the soup. I can't claim I did that alone because I had an African lady guiding me every step of the way but it still was a lot of effort to make.
Cooking is an artwork in itself...and man I'm a simpleton at heart when it comes to cooking XDDD I look at other's dishes and often think to myself that theirs looks a lot more appitizing than what I make, but it's good to cook. =)
-
You didn't know how to make eggs before your mission trip?? Bruh.
That African dish sounds good though.
-
I live alone so I try to cook something new once a week. Anything different. When my gf finally moves in I don't wanna be limited to grilled cheese and chicken on a grillpan. Though lord knows I make a damned good grilled cheese :P
-
I can only cook minimal things. Cookies, rice pilaf, pancakes, bacon, eggs, etc etc

I mentioned a few times I was like Fluttershy with my shyness online when I first joined sneezefurs and DA...and honestly, in real life a few years before I came online I was just as shy in reality too, not just online XDD I had a really stupid fear of using the oven or stove or any kind of pot, frying pan, or anything really ^^;. I burned food when I first tried cooking and with eggs I was afraid I would leave them cooking for too long or would not cook them long enough and make my family members sick.
Even though I was a teenager back then, I was a real fool now that I think about it ^^; I'm glad I got out of my shell and overcame my silly fear of cooking.
It didn't help I was SUPER lazy back in my teenage years too and since I had my mom who cooked a lot, I never really felt the need or wanted to cook. MAN I WAS WRONG!!! XDD
I started to cook about a year before my 2 year church mission, so...early 2011 was when I overcame my fear of cooking.
Even today I only cook minimal things. I'm a poor college student. Ramen, eggs, the cheap Walmart bread for toast, some peanut butter, and ham. Lots of sliced ham for sandwiches, omelets, quesadillas...oh yeah...flour tortillas too I use for cooking too specifically for quesadillas.

You a good cook?
I can make a pretty good panini. Very good cold cereal. ;)
I think my speciality it sandwiches and barbecuing. I make some pretty great steaks and ribs.

Where did you go on a Missions trip?

Man...it's late at night and you're making me hungry XDDD
Seriously though, grilled cheese is something I have yet to really know how to perfect sadly =( I've seen so many people make seemingly perfect golden grilled cheese things but when I make them...black or really luke-warm meh kind of tasting grilled cheese comes from my attempts.
Any tips on how to make a good grilled cheese? I love grilled cheese but I'm not good at making them ^^;
-
I make delicious grilled cheese sandwiches too. I also make this awesome pasta and grilled chicken.
-
Wow.
I learned how to cook eggs when I was 7. I'm still not the best at fried eggs, flipping them without bursting them is hard.
But wow man, that was kinda silly. Not even scrambled eggs? Those are kinda hard to mess up lol.

Lots of butter, a good pan, and medium heat. I nuke the sammich for about 30 seconds before frying it to get the cheese melted if I'm making a double-decker.
-
Oh and for good grilled cheese?
Use an actual grill. And put butter on it. Melt the butter, drizzle some on both sides of the bread and then just let it sit on the grill.
-
I use the stove for grilled cheeses. But a clothes iron and alluminum foil is efficient.
-
If anyone likes Cheeseburgers
https://www.cheeseandburger.com/
-
burgers are the american pasttime of food
-
It's called GRILLED cheese for a reason e_• it's meant to be grilled on a grill. Not in a stove *flails*.
-
What. EVER.
-
Nu! Not whatever!
-
Ohh jontron
-
Heh heh. My friend clipped that part of his reaction. It comes in handy.
-
Anyone here like chili?
-
Mm, chili. I don't eat it a lot but I like it.
-
Looooove chili.
-
So, Chili, how do you make it? What makes yours unique?
Me, I do half beef and half spicy italian sausage filling for my meat base. Only red kidney beans, crushed tomato, and a bunch of spices. Oh and I make a 'heat paste' out of one halbenaro, 6 cloves of garlic, and a tomato. That stuff is potent but in 5 quarts of chili it spreads out enough to give a great heat.

What is the one thing you guys have always wanted to learn how to cook/bake/etc but never have done it yet?

Beef wellington. Something pretty insane about putting a filet mignon inside of a damned pastry.
-
Mmmmmmmmm....I've always wanted to make the very best ground beef burger with cheese and bacon. Doesn't sound too difficult or complex but I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE bacon burgers
-
I think everyone can make a good chili if they try. It isn't too hard, but there are special techniques people can do such as baking or roasting various things... maybe throwing in BBQ ribs. ;)
-
Eyech. I don't like barbecue sauce.
-
I know how to make a good rice pilaf though. I use brown butter roasted angel hair pasta as an add on to make it more tasty.
-
I can do a good rice pilaf too. I also make something called a, "rice bowl" which is more traditional I guess. Rice, soy sauce, peanuts, and meat.
-
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm~~~~~
-
Kyrl, thanks for explaining that grillled cheese and the rest of you thank you too for the food discussion! Food is awesome.
-
What someone should do is post a pic of their cooking. ;)
-
Next time I cook
-
Ha, it'll be a pic of ramen XD
-
Hey I'm not very big on ramen
-
I'm in college bitch. I have that and Mac n' Cheese.
-
Mac n cheese is good
-
Mmmmm yeah.

Ooh no.. a cooking thread. Geez, if I didn't have a crazed baker friend, I wouldn't know the difference between salt and sugar! Yeah.. baking is a huge no can do for me, but.. it's probably somethin i should look into.. y'know.. I might need food to survive... maybe :P
-
Cooking IS fun once you get the hang of it
-
Baking is also really fun.
-
I baked cinnamon rolls for breakfast
-
That sounds yummy.
-
Guys. I made buttered toast today.
-
So proud, Darrin. ;)
-
I'm making linguini and broccoli Friday for the gf. I'll take some pictures.

Damn son, you fancy!

Mmmmmmm.....

Anyone got a reccommendation for an easy summer dinner?
-
Roasted chicken salad.
You need...
Lettuce or your choice.
Sliced almonds
Cherry tomatos.
Roasted chicken breast strips
You can throw on those crispy fried dough strings too.
Light dressing of your choice, preferably with sesame or raspberry.
-
Steaks! I am making steaks!
-
How were the steaks?
-
I did one of those one-pan lunch preps. Came out really good. Still shocked the chicken was cooked so well in only 20 mins. I added an extra breast so each meal had a full chicken breast.

I'd nick the green beans for something else though, they didn't reheat very good.
-
Made a pretty good greek salad yesterday for dinner. Olives. Love olives. Red, black, green, love olives. Some fresh feta too.
-
I love olives too. Any color really, and even with the seeds in them. They just pop with so much flavor that way.
-
I can't stand olives-- or, as I dub them, "the tiny black buttholes of Satan".
I do, however, make a meatloaf so juicy, tender and delicious that you'll want to smoke a cigarette after eating it.
Also have a great three-bean chili recipe... don't smoke after eating that one, because you don't want to be too near an open flame, if you--heh--catch my drift.... >>()

Kind of interesting.
7 once thought extinct apples have been found growing in Washington, Oregon, and Idaho!
Article (https://komonews.com/news/local/7-apple-varieties-previously-thought-lost-have-been-located)
-
Well sweet! I wonder what they taste like?
-
As long as they aren't like the infamous "death apples" that, thankfully, only grow in the tropical areas of the southern U.S. and Central/ South America. Apparently they're quite delicious, but if you eat one, you soon after feel a burning in the mouth, swelling in the throat and GI tract, and horrible stomach cramps. Even just exposure to the juice or sap of the tree on one's skin burns like hell. I first read about them in a post on the old AJM forums by a guy who was really into weird trivia. Years later I saw this (https://youtu.be/86TuOzcFo74?list=PLTC5PFzUSkTX8fNHXWx_-cVk0RFicEQD4&t=159) in an old Navy training film (as in our military, not where you go to buy a pair of overpriced britches in some shade of brown you never heard of), and the pangs of nostalgia hit me more virulently than any poison fruit. :-\

Lol! Thanks for sharing. Yikes.
I know wild mushrooms can be dangerous, wild berries, but never really thought of apples.
-
Mustn't forget water (that's covered in another film, actually). Untreated, it can carry all sorts of parasites, industrial pollution, and farm runoff that'll give you seven shades of the squitters if you drink it.
-
Even if you think you are an expert, you should never be so sure of yourself when eating wild fruits and mushrooms. And yes, water too.

Okay, okay!! So I usually make my own dough anyways and make pizza for my made up pizza nights, but tonight I tried something diff.
I smoosh some tomatoes and made a pizza sauce like normal, but this time I added some new Trader Joes Italian seasoning to my dough and I PAN-FRIEND the pizza dough! I have never done this before. So I pan-friend it then baked it with the toppings! It came out very good and the pizza crust and base came out with a beautiful crisp, and soft center! The toppings were perfect and simple, and you could hold the pizza slice up without it falling apart or flopping.
I will keep playing around to see if I can improve my recipe, but for what it was the first time, I was very happy!
Wish I could serve you all some. :D

That sounds awesome, TBS! :D That really sounds delicious too. I didn't know you were a chef. ;D

So I made some spiced pretzels today. Seasoned with herbs and spices. Mainly olive oil, garlic, onion powder, and dill. Super easy to make and they make for some delicious snakes around autumn. Very popular during Thanksgiving or Christmas parties! It also makes the house smell delicious when you bake them for 10 mins. If you want a quick recipe from me, just send a message or ask below. :D

Hey that sounds good. :) Even cooler it is fairly simple to make (According to you). As someone who isn't the world's best cook, I always could use some party food for hosting.
