They are called «1,5-person» seats — due to weird (
they wanted to save money on one window? ) door arrangement this type of cars had «cab-1-6-6-6-1,5» seat configuration instead of «cab-6-6-6-3», like in all previous and next types.
So, I think it was good for one wide person
or two children. But when some requirement like «the seat must not be damaged by a knife» came out, all new seats got
a hard surface with unified soft blocks, so in the case with 1,5 person seat (that type of car was pretty unique, and most of them were scrapped before they got new seats) there was easier to cut one block in a half than to make wider one
.
