So here is an idea. What if in a way to combat lurkers, you had a system in which the more people posted, the more of the forum it unlocked? Or if people could post their posts behind a curtain that only certain viewers could view?
Such as.... Authors. You have more lurkers in that section than almost any, and most people don't post anything. What if people had to post 10 posts (for example) before they could see certain stories, or art, etc? The more they post, the more content they unlock to view. It would be a benefit to the creators to get feedback and a boon to the poster to see more content. Every time they unlock something, it would keep them engaged to post more in what they unlock, so they could continue to unlock content.
If they clicked something that was locked, it would just take you to a splash page that says "you need X amount of posts to view this content."
There is a lot of merit to this proposal if the goal is to get people to post. But will it work? I am not sure. It might slow the growth rate of new members, but help the growth of legitimate integrated members who want to partake in community content.
