Lets start talking about all the movies for 2019. What are you excited for and not excited for? Lets talk about hits and bombs! It's all here!
-
One of my favorite films of 2018 was Clint Eastwood's, "The Mule." He always makes good movies it seems! I can't believe his age and how he still does all this. Major props and kudos to him.
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt7959026/
As for 2019, nothing looks interesting to me yet. We got some big remakes from Disney and then Toy Story 4 from Pixar.
-
Avengers Endgame, Captain Marvel, Shazam, Detective Pikachu, Godzilla King of the Monsters, Star Wars Episode 9, these are the five I'm looking forward to the most.
As for the bombs, I think the Sonic one has a chance to be one. Same with MIB. And Glass because Shamalan.

Most anticipated for me. Not gonna lie.
-
They look like Jedi in training.................so they look effin awesome.
-
They look like Jedi in training.....
Lol! They totally do!
-
Dumbo doesn't look good to me. And it isn't that they aren't trying, they have some good visuals, but it's.... it's just not enticing to me.
-
I’m getting tired of Disney making reminder movies

I’m getting tired of Disney making reminder movies
Preaching to the crowd man! They aren't even trying to make new classics anymore... well, they do in their animation department, but their other live action part is just stale.
-
It's not like their live action department did all that well on its own to begin with....
-
You're so gross, Dumbo!
You look like you should be fighting those 2014 Ninja Turtles!
-
Uncanny valley alert! Uncanny valley alert!
I know they made Dumbo's eyes bigger to be more endearing, but Disney is making the same mistakes animation studios did in the early 2000s when exploring CGI for the first time. It's a shame, because a lot of the visuals are fanciful in the film.
-
Here's what I am looking forward to. Cold Pursuit.
-
Marvel Movies.
Endgame, Captain Marvel, Spider-Man: Far from home, all of them.
But, not gonna lie, Shazam looked pretty good.
So did Detective Pikachu.
-
DUMBO.
-
Here's what I am looking forward to. Cold Pursuit.
Me too. :) I love these kind of movies. Liam Neeson is great at what he does.
-
*Sees trailer. Checks out. First five seconds sees Elsa barefoot*
Sign me the f*** up!
-
I still haven't seen the first Frozen. Should I?
-
I still haven't seen the first Frozen. Should I?
If you plan to watch the second, I would recommend you watch the first film. Otherwise there is really no rush to see the first. Just like Zootopia, both films were overly praised. They were good films, but probably not to the hype level as you see people giving them.
-
No, no, no! Disney stop!
A live action Aladdin for 2019? They need to stop these live action adaptions. :P
-
Oh gosh no.
-
Here's what I am looking forward to. Cold Pursuit.
Me too. :) I love these kind of movies. Liam Neeson is great at what he does.
Ditto!
-
Captain marvel in two and a half weeks can’t wait to see how they bring the 90s back to life in it
-
"Cold Pursuit" looks good. I like those kind of movies. Will I go actually see it? No. Will I see it years from now on the tv like how I consume all my shows and movies? Yeah, probably.
-
Saw captain marvel. Literally the first thirty seconds had me clapping. You’ll understand if you see it
-
Here's a scary one coming b Stephen King...
'Pet Sematary' premiere leaves fans and critics terrified (https://uk.movies.yahoo.com/pet-sematary-premier-leaves-fans-critics-terrified-150122488.html).
2019 Film Wikipedia Page (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pet_Sematary_(2019_film)).
-
And now for some upcoming movies in no real order...
Five Feet Apart - March 15
The Mustang - March 15
The Highwaymen - March 29
Dumbo - March 29
The Beach Bum - March 29
The Isle - April 1
The Public - April 5
Shazam! - April 5
Pet Sematary - April 5
-
Only one I'm looking forward to on that list is Shazam.
-
I'd never heard of it till just now.
I am looking forward to "The Highwaymen," but I will watch it when I can rent it or something. "The Mustang" might be interesting too.
-
Shazam is a popular DC Comic Book. The premise is a kid is granted the super powers of an ancient wizard and has to be...well... not an idiot with them cause he’s a kid.
-
I'm looking forward to, "Greyhound (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt6048922/)." But I am way ahead of the ballgame on that... I probably need to see more before I can say that. Military movie, count me in.
-
I kind of want to see "Rocketman" for the great music. Elton John is one of the greatest musicians of all time and has sold either the third or fourth most records in history. He does have the most number one hit songs of all time too.
-
So this is apparently a real move. Dora the Explorer and The Lost City of Gold. Set for a August 2nd, 2019 release. Dora's grown up in this movie.
-
What the.... Really? ^
-
ROFL! WHAT?!?!!?! I had no idea this was a thing!

Time for some box office news! Article (https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/box-office-dumbo-flies-26m-previews-1198097).
'Dumbo' Heads for Subdued $46M-$48M Debut. Poor reviews also aren't helping, although audiences liked it far more. Dumbo cost $170 million to produce before marketing, so it will need to do big business around the globe to end up in the black.
The anti-abortion movie 'Unplanned' is out-performing expectations. The film earned $3 million from 1,059 theaters on Friday for a projected $6 million weekend, putting it in a close race with holdover Five Feet Apart for fourth place.
The Beach Bum' marks the worst opening of Matthew McConaughey's career. Beach Bum, which premiered at SXSW, is also battling a poor Rotten Tomato of 52 percent.
-
My top 5
5 sonic the hedgehog movie
4 detective pichachu
3 brightburn
2 spider-man far from home
1 toy story 4
-
Dumbo 2019 has finally surpassed their $170 million budget as a heads up. The film did NOT do well.
-
What a shocker. A Disney reminder by Tim Burton of all people didn't do well at the box office.
But in other news I saw Shazam earlier in the week. And all I gotta say without going into spoilers, DC is actually becoming Viable competition for Marvel now.
For those who don't know Shazam is DC character in the Justice Leage Universe. Billy Batson is a foster child who is chosen as Earth's champion by the wizard literally named Shazam. When Billy shouts the name, he is granted the body of an adult with the powers of a magical god to go with it.
That's just the premise. The plot was interesting and you actually get hooked into wanting to see it unfold. The kid actors are very good actors and they were some deep moments with the ones who had most of the screen time, mostly Billy and Freddy. The villain wasn't who I thought it would be but it was still a very cool villain with a backstory you can feel for and can understand what led him into doing what he's doing.
And the humor. Holy sweet sneezy Celestia, THANK YOU DC for the humor.
The fact that this hero is literally a kid in an adult's body sets up so many hilarious opportunities for jokes and boy did the writers for this film use that to their advantage. I laughed so many times during this movie I had to remind myself I wasn't watching a parody or anything. This is a legit DC character who regularly fights along Batman and Superman. This was the first legit funny film DC has put out in a while and I for one am thankful for that. It was a breath of fresh air that has been truly needed for quite some time. Wonder Woman was powerful, Aquaman was beautiful and action packed. This one had the laughs.
And honestly, thanks to those three films, I think DC has cemented their staying power as a cinematic universe. The first films like Man of Steel, Batman V Superman, Suicide Squad, and of course, Justice League were not very heavy hitters because there wasn't a lot of emotion in them. But with the three films I just listed, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, and Shazam, these three have proven that DC finally has a grip on what they are doing. And I for one look forward to their next installment whatever it may be.

So...............how about Avengers Endgame huh?

So what about it?

Oh gosh this looks awful....
Sonic The Hedgehog Movie.
-
Oh gosh.... that looks so bad.
How they designed Sonic, he looks like a stretched blue naked mole rat with some patchy fur. It looks like it will be a sucky movie.
-
They're considering changing Sonic's design after all the negative feedback this trailer received.
-
Yeah its rare you see something like that happen. A studio acknowledge that they effed up and will fix it to make us happy.
In other news I did a review for Avengers Endgame. And of course spoiler warning
-
SONIC MOVIE LOOKS GREAT GUYS! (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7WTEB7Qbt4U) :))
I'd rather have my own original character BLONIC (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8fGFjoeyc6I) be in the movie...

'Avengers: Endgame' powers past 'Detective Pikachu' to win the weekend box office, and is now the 3rd highest-grossing movie ever domestically (https://www.sfgate.com/technology/businessinsider/article/Avengers-Endgame-powers-past-Detective-13839380.php)

Soooooooooooo....................a few clips of the new Aladdin popped up on YouTube.....kinda lackluster IMO. Then again what else was I really expecting? Should I put spoiler warning if its pretty much the same movie we already know?
-
Aladdin isn't something I plan to go see. It doesn't look good or interesting to me.
-
It doesn't help that the girl playing Jasmine is a white british girl......
-
It doesn't help that the girl playing Jasmine is a white british girl......
That doesn't matter at all. It shouldn't matter.
Gosh this recent trend of people making everything race-based is so un-needed. Everyone hates it, yet people do it? WHY?
Actors work hard for a position, and if they earn it, they earn it. Done.
-
Now I may be on the opposite side of everyone here, but this Aladdin movie looks interesting to me. Mainly because I want to see how they "redo" iconic scenes and classic songs. But I don't expect a whole lot since we already know the basics of this movie unless they change it.
-

Agreed. It doesn't matter at all. Genie is played by a black guy and Aladdin is a middle eastern guy.... what's your point? Who cares?
But I watch the previews of this movie and it saddens me a bit. I know they are trying and the sets look good! But you just can't pull off the magic of animation with live action human beings. You just can't.
On a totally random note, I like Jasmine's nose. :)

I can't help but agree. I am curious as to how they will handle so many of the well known scenes in the movie. I'm not planning on seeing it but will rent it or something when it comes out on video.
I also watched Jasmine's nostrils way too much. They were distracting me how they flared a few times.

I agree with you about being interested in how they will do scenes and classic songs in a more modern way...and honestly I'm curious how they will do the effects in live action.
No one can ever replace the energy and life Robin Williams gave the Genie...even in the Direct to DVD sequel the person who replaced Robin Williams didn't capture the same magic that Robin Williams had. Even so...Will Smith is going to do his best in the role. I want to see how he will do. I'm prepared to be let down, but if he does a good job I wouldn't be surprised at that.
-
I watched the recent Genie singing clip and you could tell they tried. I am torn on it. Disney's most recent live action films of classics have all been flops, but I think this one will do okay compared to the others.... but hopefully Disney will stop doing live action remakes.
They butchered Dumbo. They did decent with Mary Poppins but the audience just wasn't there.
-
It doesn't help that the girl playing Jasmine is a white british girl......
I understand this a lot. I thought the same thing, but I also think that she could surprise me with a good performance...or she could be a really bad fit.
I also watched Jasmine's nostrils way too much. They were distracting me how they flared a few times.
Now that you pointed this out, I can't unsee this and be distracted...but I'm not complaining at all XD
-
Movie in 2019 I am most curious about: Joker (coming in October)
Movie that I think I am most likely to see: The Star wars movie
Movie I have no desire to see in 2019: Uglydolls (currently already out in Theaters...and I have no desire to even rent this movie XD...although if enough people say positive things about it I may change my mind, but right now there are a lot more negative things I have heard than good.)
Bonus movie I'll go see if I have enough money and time: Godzilla movie

Gosh this recent trend of people making everything race-based is so un-needed.

Exactly.
For all we know, no middle eastern female auditioned for the role. And even if they ... they weren't picked for various. The person they choose looks great for the role and I hope they do a superb job. I hope all the people choosen in the movie do a great job. She seems excited (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pOOUDwW9tBc) about her role.
-
Oh gosh this looks awful....
Sonic The Hedgehog Movie.
OH MY GOSH. :-0
-
I didn't mean to come off as an asshole with that comment about Jasmine's actress. I just find it odd but thats my mind. But she is a decent actress. Her role in Power Rangers proved that.

Well going off that Sonic movie trailer there...
Sonic movie change requests from fans pleased co-creator Yuji Naka
It’s been an eventful week for the Sonic movie, that’s for sure. The trailer premiered earlier this week, leaving a lot of fans quite confused. Jim Carrey back in his zany mode did please most viewers, but fans weren’t entirely sold on Sonic’s new look. And just a couple of days later, the film’s director acknowledged that changes would be made to his character. As a result, response has been overwhelmingly positive. And chiming in his two cents on the matter is Sonic’s co-creator, Yuji Naka.
In a post on Twitter today, Naka praised the fans for sounding off on Sonic’s not-so-hot appearance in the film.

So the studio claims they will make changes to Sonic's character design... but not sure how they will do that before the supposed November release date. They might have to delay it... or they might do a really poor redesign or do next to nothing. We'll see what happens in this ongoing saga of Sonic.
-
I didn't mean to come off as an asshole with that comment about Jasmine's actress.
We're good man. :) *Friendly fist bump*
I didn't mean to sound like I was coming at you either. Just years of frustration on my end seeing society continue to lose all fabric of reality.

I had heard they will be updating the character. I hope they do it justice, because God knows how beaten Sonic fans have been since... well pretty much since the beginning of the franchise. lol.

I saw the intruder and brightburn both great horror films brightburn is my favourite movie this year so far also men in black looks good

NEXT BOX OFFICE BOMB: Disney-Fox Braces For Box Office Disaster with $200 Mil-Plus X Men Movie “Dark Phoenix,” As Negative Reviews Pour In
Article (https://www.showbiz411.com/2019/06/05/disney-fox-braces-for-box-office-disaster-with-final-x-men-movie-dark-phoenix-as-negative-reviews-pour-in)
Disney/Fox is about to release what may be Marvel’s final X Men movie, “Dark Phoenix” to terrible reviews. They are bracing for major disappointment. The budget is said to be well over $200 million after massive re-shoots.
“Dark Phoenix” was originally slated for release last November, but was pulled, according to reports, to change its ending.
The failure of “Dark Phoenix” will be hard also on its star, Sophie Turner, known to all as Sansa Stark from “Game of Thrones.” She has only known wild success.
One reviewer in Seattle wrote: “Phoenix” is a joyless addition to the long-running “X-Men” franchise – 12 movies over 18 years – and one is left with the impression that the series has been too long at the fair.”
The worst part of the reviews is that bloggers, who usually love every comic book movie, are contributing the most negative essays.
It’s likely, according to sources and reports, that Disney will re-boot “X Men” now that they have 12 movies in the can. The X’s are supposed to join the Marvel Universe, meaning joining up with the remaining Avengers and Spider Man in future movies, all re-cast.
-
I heard that too.................................I'm still probably going to see it because I do love Marvel. And I wanna see if this interpretation is any better than X3 was.

LAIKA'S "MISSING LINK" BOMBS
Portland's Laika Studios has had their biggest box office bomb yet and it's worrisome for their studio as a whole.
Ever since their first film "Coraline," they've had a steady decline at the box office with each of their stop motion films.
Their latest film moved away from the darker themes they usually do in an attempt to draw crowds in. After the poor box office release of their film, "Kubo and the Two Strings," their latest film, "Missing Link (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Missing_Link_(2019_film))" was a complete box office bomb. With a budget of $100 million, the film only drew in $24.3 million for a major loss. The film received fairly positive reviews from critics, but I guess that wasn't enough for the film to succeed.

Time for a another BOX OFFICE BOMB! Today we got a horribly animated movie out of the UK, CANADA, and INDIA, that tried to make it big in the US. It had a sizable budget of $50 million USD but has so far only made a pitiful $3.5million in returns. Not only that it is getting horrible reviews.
The film is ARCTIC DOGS (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arctic_Dogs) by AIC Studios (http://www.aicstudios.ca) (Canada), AMBI Media Group (US distributor), and Assemblage Entertainment (India). They've made terrible films like, "Norm of the North" back in 2016.
The film was release November 1st, 2019 and fell short of it's projected totals of $5-10 million in it's first week. Instead it only gained $2.9 million. On review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, the film holds an approval rating of 14% based on seven reviews, with an average rating of 2.24/10. Metacritic assigned the film a weighted average score of 28 out of 100, based on four critics, indicating "generally unfavorable reviews".
You can tell from the trailer alone it probably isn't a good film.
-
Right now Avengers Endgame is in the lead for best movie of 2019 to me. Godzilla King of the Monsters is a close second
-
Nothing has stood out to me this year as being that good. I know there were a lot of "blockbusters" but nothing had emotion or soul. It was just checking boxes and making a movie they knew people would buy into.
-
Time for a another BOX OFFICE BOMB! T
I saw a few previews and could tell right away it wouldn't succeed, but I didn't think it would be failing this bad.

This upcoming movie by Clint Eastwood looks good. Based on a true story and shows how vicious the media was even in the 90s. "Richard Jewell." If you don't know the real story, look it up.

A movie that is struggling right now is "Ford vs. Ferrari." It is getting very positive reviews with many saying it is one of the better films this year. Unfortunately it is just not drawing in big numbers yet. It did outperform in it's first weekend and it is very likely it will still outperform it's cost to make. We also have some recent BOX OFFICE BOMBS below.
The new reboot feminist 'woke' ''Charlie's Angels'' has completely bombed. Only making a dismal $8 million in it's first weekend. Wow. Thats bad. Source (https://deadline.com/2019/11/charlies-angels-bombs-at-box-office-reasons-why-1202787938/)
And the new "Terminator: Dark Fate" loses over $120 million dollars and is also a box office bomb. It too tried to be a somewhat feminist film, but with lots of explosions. But people seem to be so done with this franchise. Source (https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/box-office-terminator-dark-fate-bombs-29m-us-debut-1251886)

Universal Pictures has a new movie called, "1917 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1917_(2019_film))" coming out. Looks great if you ask me. A WWI flick. Comes out December 25, 2019.

Wow its got a great cast as well I'll probably see it

Despite being panned by critics and audiences, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, is still sadly drawing in big money for Disney. Not nearly as much as they'd hoped, as it's the worst performing Star Wars film so far... What makes this sad is because Disney has learned nothing these recent few years producing awful reboots. People still support these awful films so Disney will just keep making awful films. Why should they even try if people will still support their worst content? So far the Rise of Skywalker has made $572.1 million from it's budget of about $270 million.
Review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes reported an approval rating of 55% based on 421 reviews, with an average rating of 6.16/10. The website's critics consensus reads: "Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker suffers from a frustrating lack of imagination, but concludes this beloved saga with fan-focused devotion." At Metacritic, the film has a weighted average score of 54 out of 100, based on 60 critics, indicating "mixed or average reviews".
-
1917 is being praised by critics and movie goers. It is being praised for it's cinematography, story, and realism! I hope this film rocks it at the box office.
Article (https://www.escapistmagazine.com/v2/1917-long-takes-capture-nightmare-unreality-war/)
Plot: At the height of the First World War during Spring 1917 in northern France, two young British soldiers, Schofield and Blake, are given a seemingly impossible mission to deliver a message which will warn of an ambush during one of the skirmishes soon after the German retreat to the Hindenburg Line during Operation Alberich. The soldiers race against time, crossing enemy territory to deliver the warning and keep a British battalion of 1,600 men, which includes Blake's brother, from walking into a deadly trap. The pair must give their all to accomplish their mission by surviving the war to end all wars.

‘Cats’ Getting Fixed: Universal to Roll Out Version with “Improved VFX”
Source (https://www.animationmagazine.net/vfx/cats-getting-fixed-universal-to-roll-out-version-with-improved-vfx/)
Academy Award-winning director Tom Hooper (The King’s Speech, The Danish Girl) has created one of the most talked-about films of late 2019 … in a way. His adaptation of the hit Andrew Lloyd Webber musical Cats is a star-studded affair which promised to be a unique visual spectacle, relying on digital fursuits rather than costuming to transform Judi Dench, Idris Elba, Ian McKellan, Taylor Swift, Jennifer Hudson et al into lithe, leg-licking feline hybrids.
Unfortunately, the product’s rush to a Christmas/awards season release — Hooper said he had barely squeaked the CGI-packed film into the can ahead of the World Premiere last week — has run headlong into a wall of merciless, often quite creative, cinema criticism. Many reviewers have noted the unfinished look of the VFX, mostly with the secondary or background cats, but even some of the A-list felines appear to have been overlooked in the final clawing toward the finish.
On the film’s official opening day Friday, releasing studio Universal sent out word to theaters that an updated version of Cats with “some improved visual effects” was on the way, according to Hollywood Reporter. This course of action is unprecedented for a film already in theaters, drawing comparisons to the “Day One Patches” common to video game releases.
As-is, Cats coughed up a fourth place opening this weekend, with a domestic take of $6.5 million from 3,380 locations — placing it in the 20 worst openings of all-time for film playing in 3,000+ locations — and about $4.4M in the U.K. The film, which is estimated to have cost around $100M to make, is set to roll out to 37 international markets this week and more through February. It seems unlikely that even a major VFX facelift can rescue Cats, as the film is sitting on a C+ CinemaScore from opening day audiences, and an 18% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Who knows? Maybe this second life of Cats will turn things around, whether because Tom Hooper’s vision is finally realized and appreciated or whether he has a bit of a Tommy Wiseau moment. Either way, there’s still seven lives left to figure it out.

Another box office bomb.
Playmobil: The Movie
Wikipedia Page (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Playmobil:_The_Movie)
Has only made $13.8 million worldwide after spending $40 million. It is a German/French film and bombed miserably. Possibly one of the worst of all time.
On Rotten Tomatoes, the film holds an approval rating of 16% based on 59 reviews, with an average rating of 3.72/10. The site's critical consensus reads: "Much like the toys it advertises, Playmobil: The Movie seems sadly destined to be regarded as a superficially similar yet less desirable alternative to the competition."

My favorite movie of 2019 was, "The Irishman." Great crime drama. A little long, but I really enjoyed it.
-
Ford vs. Ferrari or Toy Story 4. Those are the top picks for 2019. As an honorable mention, "They Shall Not Grow Old" is Peter Jackson's documentary recolored of war footage.
I haven't seen "The Irishman" yet, but it's on my hitlist.
2019 wasn't that great of a year for film... yet again.

I like music, so it's no surprise I liked the music from these musical films, "Rocketman" and "Rolling Thunder Revue," the later being a story about Bob Dylan by Martin Scorsese.
I didn't watch much this year, and I certainly didn't support Hollywierd by buying tickets to see any of these films... except for a few.
My overall winner is "Ford v Ferrari."
I think the film 1917 will be on the list too, but I haven't seen it and it's officially being released Jan 2020... but it say a short limited release in 2019.v

I would have to choose Toy Story 4. ;)

Didn't really watch anything this year that stood out to me. Everything was pretty forgettable.

I don't know? I didn't watch really anything. It would be unfair to name something when surely there was something worse.
