And that is seriously about it.  Everything else they have can be bought on other systems or the PC.

Just an update to everyone, Microsoft's Xbox One Is Selling So Poorly Retailers are giving them less floor space and not even ordering them.  Since 2013, the Xbox One has sold only 10 million consoles.  The Playstation 4 since 2013 has sold 53 million consoles.

Shocking isn't it.  ;)  Still their best games are the Forza series... and they are going to lose that as they start moving those games to PC too, as they should.  Froza is too good to be console exclusive to a system that isn't popular anymore.

Big news from today at E3 in Los Angeles.

Microsoft Reveals Project Scarlett, It's Next Console With Cloud Gaming Capabilities (http://fortune.com/2019/06/09/e3-news-microsoft-xbox-project-scarlett-annoucement/).

The next console war has officially kicked off. Microsoft announced its new Xbox console at its E3 briefing in Los Angeles Sunday. The new console, named Project Scarlett, will launch for the holiday season of 2020.

While many expected Microsoft would provide a great deal of information on its cloud gaming efforts, it did emphasize that Project Scarlett would be streaming-capable. No information on a launch date or pricing was made, however.

So far, it’s the only console maker with concrete plans to bring cloud gaming to the public.

However, it still has Google to contend with. On Thursday, the tech giant provided additional details on Stadia, its upcoming cloud gaming venture. Stadia is set to launch in November.

In terms of console competition, the field remains quiet. Nintendo previously said it did not plan to announce any updates to its Switch. PlayStation-maker Sony opted to skip E3 entirely. Though it announced some pieces of information and talked up the increased performance of its planned successor the PlayStation 4 just last week, Sony still hasn’t set a launch date.

Microsoft developers touted the new device’s capabilities including playback at 120 frames per second, and a processor that runs four times more powerful than the Xbox One X.

For those less interested in tech specs and more concerned with what exactly you can play with it, Spencer made another announcement that takes the console-maker back to its roots.

Halo Infinite will be released along with the new Xbox for the holiday season, much like when the first Xbox console first came out.

Microsoft also updated fans on its Game Pass feature. The program works similarly to PlayStation’s PlayStation Now service, as they both allow users to play from a library of games without having to buy each title individually.

Xbox’s previously announced the expansion of Game Pass to PCs, but told the L.A. crowd the service would launch in beta today. Game Pass for PC costs $9.99 a month, the same as the console version, but it’s available at a $4.99 beta price currently.

But that wasn’t the only Game Pass news Microsoft had. The company announced details on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. The Ultimate pack comes with access for Xbox Game Pass on consoles and PC along with Xbox Live Gold, which is needed to play online with others. The upgraded package costs $14.99 a month.

MICROSOFT E3 CONFERENCE HIGHLIGHTS

Microsoft had an excellent E3 conference, which isn't hard to do when there is no one else around to have a conference.  Nonetheless, Microsoft did a great job and catered to gaming fans with the reveal of a new console  as well as Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.

Project Scarlet (The new console): Still no commercial name, but a more extensive look than what we've seen so far. It's coming in Holiday 2020, and it's meant to be Xbox's new flagship console. This isn't quite a full reveal, more like the next stage after last year's confirmation that these things were in fact coming. Like Sony, Microsoft is pursuing a slow-ramp up to the actual launch in 2020.
We heard times like 120 FPS, 8K and all those big numbers. Like Sony's new console, one of the major selling points will be an SSD meant to minimize or completely eliminate load times, and anyone that's installed an SSD on a current-generation console can attest to what a major improvement these things can make. The new console will come with full backwards compatibility, all the way back to the original Xbox.

Xbox Game Pass Ultimate combines the Xbox Game Pass for console and PC as well as Xbox Live Gold for only $14.99 a month, which is far cheaper than buying then all separately.  Unlimited online gaming for relatively cheap.

Project xCloud is arguably the biggest project in the entire press conference, though we didn't hear too much about it. xCloud is Microsoft's game streaming platform, and it's going into beta now for the people at E3. This still seems like something they're setting the stage for and not being all that explicit about it, but it seems like this fall is when these platforms are going to rumble to life.

As well, a major staple in Microsoft's portfolio was also revealed, Microsoft Flight Simulator is coming back in 2020 allows pilots and players to fly the world in their most detailed landscapes and planes ever.  This is a huge hit with the simulation community.  Since the release of the original MFS, it has been one of the best selling franchises for the Redmond based company.

Microsoft shared more about Halo Infinite.  It will be the next big game in the Halo franchise.

Age of Empires 2 Definitive Edition was unveiled and will be rendered in full 4K with modern updates and a new campaign.

Minecraft Dungeons has been revealed and appears to be a Minecraft based RPG or MMORPG with up to 4 player local players or online co-op.  Looks promising.

Wasteland 3: Another entry into the resurrected Wasteland franchise, this is a post-apocalyptic isometric turn-based squad game with a sense of humor that's just one wacky notch about Fallout.

Microsoft Buys the Doublefine studio: This is a big get for Microsoft: Tim Schafer's Doublefine is a long-standing gaming standby with a long list of games both huge and weird. These days they're probably still best known for Psychonauts, and guess what? That means Psychonauts 2 is on its way as a Microsoft exclusive.

Xbox Elite Controller Series 2: The Xbox Elite Controller is the best in the business, and it's getting a redesign. The company advertizes increased customization, the ability to save three distinct profiles, bluetooth connectivity, adjustable thumbstick tension and more.

If might be because there is no competition this year, but Microsoft blew it out of the ballpark this year.  They seemed really focused on fixing the many mistakes they have made and have directly one-upped and taken aim at Sony with all their announcements.  They revealed tons of great things, lower prices, good services, and many classic games coming back!  I must say I am excited with what Microsoft has announced.  They did superb.

Looks like we are finally getting this topic some attention to move forward.  lol.

'Halo Infinite' team on graphics criticism: 'we do have work to do'

Article (https://www.engadget.com/halo-infinite-343-industries-visual-art-style-craig-response-102047314.html?ncid=txtlnkusaolp00000618)

343 Industries has responded to fan concerns that Halo Infinite, the next instalment in the beloved shooter franchise, doesn’t look particularly ‘next-gen.’ In a blog post, community manager John Junyszek said the team in Redmond had “heard the feedback” shared by disgruntled fans after the Xbox showcase. “The build used to run the campaign demo was work-in-progress from several weeks ago with a variety of graphical elements and game systems still being finished and polished,” he said.

Halo Infinite opened the Xbox showcase — a long-awaited event focused on first-party titles for the Xbox platform, including the upcoming Xbox Series X console – with a campaign demo that showed Master Chief battling his way through a forest and mountain-covered planet. Many viewers were intrigued by the structure of the game, which appears to be more ‘open world,’ but horrified by the seemingly-simple visuals which looked flat and ‘last-gen.’ “Halo Plastic Edition,” one YouTube viewer commented last week..... PC gaming tycoon Gabe Newell would opt for Xbox Series X (but probably won't)

Article (https://news.yahoo.com/pc-gaming-tycoon-gabe-newell-opt-xbox-series-132130717.html)

The CEO of PC gaming platform Steam, Gabe Newell, has indicated that of Holiday 2020's new home consoles, he currently prefers the Xbox Series X to the PlayStation 5 -- but "has no stake in the race."

On vacation in New Zealand in March, Valve Corporation CEO Gabe Newell decided along with a group of family and friends to stay on there as the COVID-19 pandemic spread around the world, instead of returning to the USA.

Inspired by New Zealanders' communal response to the pandemic, Newell and his fellow holidaymakers have now come up with "a way of saying thank you for the hospitality and generosity" shown to them.

He joined TV show "The Project NZ" to talk about the concert, dubbed We Heart Aotearoa or We Love Aotearoa (using the Maori name for New Zealand), and set for August 15 on Queen's Wharf in Auckland, North Island.

There'll be race car drivers, VR experiences, music and food for families in the afternoon, followed by a concert for 18s and over featuring Ladi6 and The Bad Seeds in the evening.

Invited to comment on a couple of tech and gaming matters, he said he thought Holiday 2020's Xbox Series X would be better than the PlayStation 5.

Newell didn't explain his reasoning further, merely restating his conclusion: "Because it is."

Official hardware specifications indicate that the Xbox Series X will outpace the PlayStation 5 in every comparable area save for hard drive speeds.

Thanks to historical hardware consistencies, Xbox has also been talking up its large library of games compatible across Xbox Series X, the current Xbox One, and previous Xbox consoles.

Just as Sony did in June, Xbox is expected to unveil a second, less expensive unit, which should dovetail with its budget-conscious Xbox Games Pass subscription service and, potentially, cloud gaming solution xCloud.

Microsoft is also handling online server architecture for Sony's xCloud equivalent, PlayStation Now.

Though Newell worked at Microsoft earlier in his career, he suggested that wasn't influencing his outlook.

"I don't have a stake in that [Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5] race. Obviously we [at Valve] do most of our development on personal computers."

Though it's likely that Newell will stick with a PC for his gaming, between PlayStation and Xbox, he said he would "definitely go with an Xbox."

Should general consumer preferences follow those of Newell, it will be a dramatic reversal of fortunes for Xbox and Sony compared to this time in 2013, before the launch of the Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

This is pretty big news.

Microsoft buys Bethesda, maker of hit The Elder Scrolls and Fallout games, in $7.5 billion deal

Article (https://komonews.com/news/local/microsoft-will-buy-video-game-maker-zenimax-for-75-billion)

REDMOND, Wash. — Microsoft is buying the company behind popular video games The Elder Scrolls, Doom and Fallout.

The software giant said Monday that it is paying $7.5 billion for ZeniMax Media, the parent company of video game publisher Bethesda Softworks.

Microsoft said it is buying Bethesda in part to beef up its Xbox Game Pass game subscription service, which it says has over 15 million subscribers.

Bethesda games, such as Starfield, which is currently in development, will launch on Xbox Game Pass the same day they launch on Xbox or computers, Microsoft said.

Microsoft has new consoles debuting on Nov. 10, the Xbox Series X and stripped down Series S version. It will be competing against Sony's new PlayStation 5 console.

R.W. Baird analyst Colin Sebastian said the deal is part of a wider industry trend of consolidation. Microsoft already owns studios that make popular games including Minecraft and the Halo franchise.

“We believe the deal checks a lot of boxes for Microsoft, such as strengthening the Xbox/Games division product portfolio as competition increases, boosting the profile of Xbox subscription services, and providing more content for the company’s cloud gaming initiatives," he wrote in an investor note.

Microsoft Corp., which is based in Redmond, Washington, expects the deal to close in the second half of fiscal 2021.

Holy cow.  Microsoft is making some big powerplays here.  Not for the short term, but the long term investment and a long term win.  They are buying big developers.  Don't forget they got Mojang recently too.

This will allow Microsoft to possibly make 'The Elder Scrolls,' 'Doom,' and 'Fallout' games be Microsoft/Xbox exclusives.    This would be earth shattering for Sony.  Not right away, but in the long term.  This would be HUGE.  Microsoft is smart here morphing their Xbox and PC experience into one.  It allows them to streamline.  They are making their games as accessible as possible, even having monthly payments to get a system at a very low price.  Very low priced Game Pass and tons of backwards compatibility.  Microsoft is setting up for a death blow to everyone else it looks like.  We'll see how this plays out in a few years.

Microsoft REALLY needed this. As someone who has mostly been going with Xbox consoles since 2004, they've been rather pathetic with the Xbox One. I have gotten plenty of use out of it so I certainly don't regret buying one, but the most fun I had on it was probably playing indie games like Cuphead and Enter the Gungeon.

Don't really know anything about Xbox, so I can't really help.  Just search what you like.

The pitfall with the new Xbox was the lack of new games that came with the new one.  Luckily you can play your old Xbox games on the new system.  If you like racing, Forza is popular.  It's not Gran Turismo, but it's an alternative.

Microsoft's Trying To Buy Activision Blizzard deal gets global scrutiny

Article (https://www.msn.com/en-us/entertainment/gaming/microsofts-activision-blizzard-deal-gets-global-scrutiny/ar-AA11l1XF)

Microsoft’s plan to buy video game giant Activision Blizzard for $68.7 billion could have major effects on the gaming industry, transforming the Xbox maker into something like a Netflix for video games by giving it control of many more popular titles. But to get to the next level, Microsoft must first survive a barrage of government inquiries from New Zealand to Brazil, and from U.S. regulators emboldened by President Joe Biden to strengthen their enforcement of antitrust laws...

Microsoft Lays Off 1,900 Activision Blizzard, Xbox Staff One Day After $3 Trillion Valuation

Microsoft laid 1,900 employees in its gaming division, according to an internal memo seen by The Verge on Thursday, with a majority of the layoffs hitting its newly acquired Activision Blizzard employees. Some Xbox and ZeniMax employees were also affected, according to the memo. The layoffs come roughly three months after Microsoft closed a $69 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard.

Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer welcomed Activision, Blizzard, and King employees to his company on Oct. 13 in an email, telling them “Today is a good day to play.” Today, not so much, as Microsoft Gaming’s division is losing more than 8% of its 22,000 employees. Spencer sent a less joyous memo on Thursday morning detailing the “painful decision to reduce the size of our gaming workforce by approximately 1,900 roles.”

When Microsoft purchased Activision Blizzard, it received some of the world’s biggest game franchises, including Call of Duty, World of Warcraft, Diablo, and Candy Crush, just to name a few. The deal was held up by antitrust challenges from the Federal Trade Commission and the United Kingdom’s Commercial Markets Authority, concerned that Microsoft would stifle competition. However, the deal passed through. Activision Blizzard games have yet to be added to Microsoft’s game subscription service, Xbox Game Pass, but they might show up sometime in 2024.

In the midst of the layoffs, Blizzard President Mike Ybarra announced he would be stepping down in a tweet Thursday morning, alongside Blizzard’s co-founder and chief design officer, Allen Adham, according to The Verge. An upcoming Blizzard survival game has also been canceled, which was slated to be its first new IP for the developer since Overwatch in 2016.

Blizzard announced Monday that replacing Ybarra is Johanna Faries who previously was the general manager of the Call of Duty franchise.
However, before the deal was approved, Microsoft and Activision Blizzard executives beat the drums of acquisition. In 2022, Microsoft President Brad Smith said the deal would “create more opportunities for gamers and game developers.” In April 2023, Activision CEO Bobby Kotick said blocking this deal would actually “stifle investment, competition, and job creation” throughout the gaming industry.

This is also NOT GOOD.  They just laid off a majority of their staff last week and this week they completely shut them down.., kind of.  You liked the Crash and Spyro games of the modern era, this studio is now gone and so is their futures... LAME.  The studio is going remote... offices gone.
