Gravit Falls...superb series that just aired it's finale episode tonight.....I'm sad and happy at the same time...

Too bad it ended.  I knew it was a good show, but I never watched it.

It ended? Huh. Never thought it would.

What do you mean you never thought it would?
It's not a show like the Simpsons. It literally only takes place during the 3 months of summer. With 2 of the months only taking up one season :(
I haven't seen the finale, so no spoilers yet! I'll get to it tonight maybe.
I didn't want it to end!!

Title: Gravity Falls...and breaks
Post by: NostradamusTheSeer on 2016-02-16 04:35:55
Well, Ford was pretty clear... once summer ended, Stan was to pack up and get out of the Mystery Shack.  Plus, let's face it, once you defeat the ultimate Big Bad and narrowly avert the apocalypse there isn't much you can do for an encore. Gnomes, Bigfoots, and, yes, even unicorns seem pretty boring in the face of global annihilation.

Why does every show feel that "Saving the world" is how they end everything?  Why not something more original?

They ended on a high note instead of dragging things on.  They have a huge fan base still and that will last for ages.

But Darrin, this show is pretty original.
Besides, it's the new things they do with an old trope that makes a story great and feel new.

What did I mean? Nothing, it's just shows like this one: to me, they look like they'd never end.

But what do I know, I've never watched it, the only thing I know about it is its reputation and I never knew what it really was about, so... ::)

I had known for a while that Hirsch had both the entire basis for the story (beginning, middle, ending) already plotted out, and that the show probably wasn't going to last more than two seasons. He was very clear about that in a Reddit AMA he did at least two years ago.

My sister saw the finale, and called me at almost midnight last night in tears. I'm not caught up beyond "The Last Mabelcorn" yet, though everything's pretty much already been spoiled for me, which I'm fine with. I'm just glad that the ending was well-received; this show was the one that really put a career in animation into perspective for me, and made me want to work in the industry. I applaud him and the team for all they've done to make this project a successful one.

He had a plan and didnt waver and created one of the more successful shows of this decade. It is well respected.

Because "saving the tri-county area" doesn't sound as dramatic. I mean, that's like, I don't know, Tuesday afternoon for my heroes. It's here in my day planner, see...? Right between "lunch at that new Mexican place" and "take dog to vet for worm check".    ;)

I've never thought about it before, but there IS a certain amount of shows ending with the characters saving the world.

I don't know which ones, but I'm sure there are.

Gravity falls did the right thing going out so fast. It stayed around for as long as it needed to be and went out on top.

Watched it...
I started crying! I also didn't realize it would be so long. I had to go to class in the middle of the emotional part! I was crying, my glasses had tear stains on them and I could feel the tears drying as I walked through the cold winter air. I had to sit through an hour and 15 minute class before I could watch the end

It was a very... Good ending. It felt complete. I felt whole. Everything felt tied together so nicely. I liked it. It gave me a smile and made me feel good.

I don't want to say any spoilers, I recommend others do the same as well. In case new people stumble on the thread and find out important stuff that's supposed to be a surprise.

I'm going to have to agree. I liked the show, Rugrats, but then when the movies came, it was dumb.  It was trying to save the world or something like that... their world, tad diff.

Jimmy Neutron anyone?  Save the world.

Kimg Possible's So The Drama, save the world.

Doug Movie... where did a monster come from in a series that was supposed to be down the earth?

The list can go on and on.

Post by: NostradamusTheSeer on 2016-02-18 21:58:19
I just saw it. No spoilers (or at least very minor and deliberately confusing ones) , but the last fifteen minutes were very intense.  It had a lot of Adult Fear (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/AdultFear/WesternAnimation) elements to it, for anyone who has to worry about your parents or guardians as they age.  Fortunately it's Disney, so it ended happily... you'd hate to see a man who gave all he had to save the whole frickin' world wind up as a doddering, lonely empty shell in some old folks' home.

Yeah, I doubt they would. The ending was very conclusive.
And besides, Alex Hirshe would never let them do that to his show.

I could see a few more of those three-minute short films, chronicling the twins' adventures back in suburbia and thoughts on beginning seventh grade... maybe done in the form of video letters to Soos.  I mean, Dipper's a lot like Ford, and despite his ordeal, he'd never lose his interest in the paranormal entirely. Likely he's keeping an eye out for weird things right in his own backyard.  And it isn't really over; Wendy did say "See you next summer", so it's likely the twins spending time at the Mystery Shack each year will continue until they're ready to go off to college.  Now that he has money and is a little more stable, maybe Old Man MacGucket can finally mend fences with his son. Now that gay marriage is legal in all fifty states, maybe those two troopers can finally make it official (who else thought they were going to make out right then and there?) Oh, and I'd like to see if Mabel's folks really did let her keep Waddles after all.  Remember that poor bus driver? You have to wonder if he filed a police report about two crazy old coots threatening his life over letting a pig onto his bus or simply kept quiet about it.

You know a show that I think deserves a GOOD reboot? Samurai Jack. The original series was never finished =( A reboot would be perfect for the kick butt show.

Well, Nostradumus, in the credits you do see a snippet of Old Man McGucket hanging out with his son. So it seems that they're on their way to mending their relationship.

I am aware.  There was that huge fan base push for a new season.  The movie was originally going to be the end of the series, but that changed.  Funny thing, I never watched the last season... If we keep talking about this show, we should make a topic for it.

This is for GRAVITY FALLS, OREGON!

Like, she's the right level of out there without being annoying.
On occasion Grenda would annoy me, but I like how she had a use with her deep voice while finding the unicorns.

Oooh, Grenda bugged me, and Mabel I never looked at the same after watching Bob's Burgers.  Her voice got grating to me.  But I still liked the show overall, and the characters.

He's currently in talks to make a new show for Fox Broadcasting Company, but there's no information on what it's to be about. If it doesn't have Seth MacFarlane's name on it, you can  probably expect it to be 15 minutes long and air in the "death slot" (Sat. night, 12:30 Eastern) sandwiched between the local news and infomercials featuring some washed-up celebrity hawking e.d. pills, affordable health insurance, shipping warehouse pyramid schemes and handy-dandy kitchen potato peelers.

^ FOX is either gonna give you a big deal to do anything you want, or they will sign a small deal that ends after three episodes.  Very risky business.
