Title: Dulcy the Dragon Comic Commission
Post by: Ari-Dynamic on 2016-03-02 19:02:46
Just thought I'd share my latest commission with everyone. ^^ It was such a delight being able to draw this character; I'm very pleased with how all the hard work came out.

I have three commissions on the list to do; the bottom two will also be sneeze-themed. ^^ One of which got an approval by a popular artist and one I personally find inspiring. :3 I dunno if anyone's familiar with Zig-Zag from the Sabrina Online comics. The one after that one will be sneezing+transformation, which should be pretty funny. :)

I've seen a LOOOOOOOOOT of pics featuring Dulcy the Dragon. This comic has taken over as my favorite of them all.

I'm really glad I had permission to post it. I've been doing comics for six years. This is the one I'm most proudest of. ^^

You are so stink in' talented man.  I love how fluid the characters all look in this.  I would be proud of this one too, because it looks amazing.

Oh, I also noticed you mentioned IdiotFarm in your description. It's nice to see him still around. I'm guessing he's a bit less... Rude now? I've noticed his comments are a lot nicer than they were before, especially when offering CC.

But ooooh boy. You shouldn't gloat about your plans in front of who you want to prank lol XD

When I get the time I want to make a full comment on what I can see, but for now I wantyou to know that you worked your butt off on this comic and it shows. You will be free after the second one, and take the time to do what you personally want to do! :) I read about what happened to the free request and see that one of those requests had comments disabled. I don't know what happened but if that person was a jerk to you because you were kind to them, that is very, very wrong :(

I hope that you have time to yourself and I wm happy that you have people paying you *hugs* your comics are worth the 30 dollars per page because I know how much time and energy you put into those pages.

To LP, yeah IF is trying to be nicer. He is still himself but he is trying to be better :)

This is an amazing piece of comic.  It looks great from start to finished and is well done.  Like really well done.  You can tell you put a lot of time and effort into this.

The plot to this comic is great and makes you think it is part of something far grander, like a race or some wild crazy bet they did.  Love how you drew all of it, the expressions, built up, etc.  Looks awesome.

So many times, I saw Dulcy's expressions, and thought, yeah, these are awesome.  You probably shook your head with a smile at times when drawing this too.  It is great.

There were moments, I definitely won't lie about that. But he has made a very good effort in being generous and kind throughout the experience. ^^ I can't speak for everyone else but I will say that while I did find myself pushed to the max, it was a really pleasant experience nonetheless. I think the quality of the comic and the time spent making sure it was money well spent was what kept things at a nice and brisk working relationship.

If I could do more for him I would (and I'm not opposed to it), but there are commissions coming after him and my webcomic might have a new website which could go up later this month. ^^ If not April. It'll have to come at a time when I'm not booked like Elvis at the moment, haha. XD

I guess it was a case of like-- I was offered to do a laidback request during my downtime while waiting on IF, and it seemed like I was given complete leeway on drawing what they requested. As the request grew on, it sorta went onto flaw nitpick and flaw nitpick and flaw nitpick. I treat requests as basically one-offs so naturally there'll be a lot of mistakes in them. But at a certain point I got a little irked, like, "You told me I could do it this way, so I did and then some, let's just be happy with it."

Thankfully it worked out with both folks. ^^ That's all that matters. It could've been worse, and I'm glad it didn't get worse. :)

I second this. ^^ All it takes is a bit of patience and a sturdy foundation. But he is making a stride to be a better person. I really do wish him the best.

Oh yes. <3

I have to give credit to IF with helping me with drawing Dulcy. ^^ He and I really do both share the same interest in the character and he's been very supportive and helpful when things didn't look right. I don't think I could've lasted a minute without his support. A few times I felt I was doing it right, but he corrected me and pointed out my mistakes in a way that wasn't rude or crude.

What I'm proud of though is her expressions. x3 The look of shock mixed in with the big ol' chest inhale, and down to the Game Grumps-like face she gives Ant in the second comic. :>

There is only one severe drawback to the comic. x___x

The comics I'm doing cost $240 total.

He could only afford $40. :(

He did something similar to me when he commissioned me initially. It was only 1,000 DA points ($10 worth of art), but he couldn't pay me in full (he only had 997 or something absurd like that – just under 1,000). I let it slide because it wasn't that big of a difference – and it didn't end up happening anyway – but DAMN, that sucks.

That being said, though, this looks just amazing. The detail, the expressions – the way everything's come together is wonderful. I'm glad to hear he's been tolerable to work with and respectful in giving critique. This really is incredible.

Thank you :3 *glomp*

Right now I'm working out a system where if I can put his Dulcy comic on hold while I work on commissions that'll make up for the lost money. If he's okay with me setting the comic on hold while I pay some funds back or make it up to the bank, I can pick up where his comic left off.

I'm sure if you explain it like that to him he'll be okay with waiting. After all, that's a huge difference in money. And your stuff is so good it kinda deserves a lot of money lol.

Oh? What does that mean?

Because of the $200 'discount', for lack of better word, I asked him earlier today if it would be alright to set the Dulcy comic aside to tackle three other clients to sort of make up for the loss. I figured I could earn the money back via them, then come back and wrap up the Dulcy comic.

We didn't see eye to eye. I eventually gave in and posted a journal and said "Alright, so, client wants my full attention... thank you for your patience, I'll see what I can do about this."

Funny how it all happens on a day there's a thunderstorm in my hometown. xD Power could go off any time soon, who knows.

based off what I know, they are difficult to deal with.  One moment they are fine, the next they are a totally different animal.  Like a storm that hits by surprise.  Be careful with them.

If anyone is expecting a fourth page, I'm afraid we may be a bit disappointed. I've decided to halt the comic until IdiotFarm can pay the rest of the comic's actual price.

I think it's fair. At the time $40 was all he could get but the comic is looking way too good for a mere $40 alone. I've got nothing against him and I don't really delve into his past, sometimes he was really happy and nice other times he can really hair-strainingly crazy... but right now I think with the advice I got from a lot of people, he should pay up the rest.

I have been scammed a few times too, someone of FSA *the red forum*commissioned me for a drawing and a story to go with it.
He paid half, I got the picture done and was going to start the story but wanted him to pay the rest... He never responded and then he removed me off skype and all other places.

So now I have a nice sneeze picture I can't upload -.-

Aww :( That totally sucks. I think this was my first client I've ever had a huge problem with. The clients I've had in the last four years never lead me to this kind of situation.

I think if he really cares for it, especially since it's on the last page of all places, he'll try and compensate. If he can't, well, I dunno... it's too late for me to really contest him about it since it's pretty much a sneeze from being done anyway, lol. It was a fun ride.

Well you couldn't have stopped at a more cliffhanger of a spot.  Should be incentive for the commissioner to at least pay the next part to see it.

As for Umeko, since they didn't keep up their end of the bargain, it is YOUR picture to do what you want with.  You can keep it or share it.  You don't need to abide by their rules since they broke them.
Title: Re: Dulcy the Dragon Comic Commission
Post by: RainySunshine on 2016-03-07 11:58:17
Patripony - Seems fair what you are doing.  You do need your agreed to price and if someone can't live up to it, you have to wait.

Umeko - They stopped responding to you and cut off ties.   You drew it, it is your product, not theirs.  You can do whatever you want with it.
Title: Re: Dulcy the Dragon Comic Commission
Post by: Death Blossom on 2016-03-07 11:59:33
I think the fear is she can't post it or share it as the person who didn't pay for it would be able to enjoy it without having payed for it.

Don't cave into peer pressure, Pat. Do what's more economically sound for you.
Title: Re: Dulcy the Dragon Comic Commission
Post by: Ari-Dynamic on 2016-03-07 17:15:46
He ain't budging. I'm contemplating just giving the money back and end it now, to be honest. If the dude really is broke as he says he is, no sense fighting someone with no money for money. But then again I dunno, maybe he's rich and just doesn't feel the need to lend support, lol.

Oh well.
Title: Re: Dulcy the Dragon Comic Commission
Post by: Death Blossom on 2016-03-07 17:22:50
Well he tends to spend a lot of money on commissions and stuff. He probably can have the money. And if he didn't, why was he spending it on expensive ass commissions?

Just don't budge either. Go about your life. Tell him he can pay you whenever he has the chance, but you won't continue unless he pays up. Afterall, this is a career for you, no? This is how you get money.

as of this writing he still never paid, lol. despite telling me he was broke and ill and living off of nickels and dimes-- he went off and bought a commission from someone else. if it was anything over $20, then i pretty much got the short end of the stick.

anyways... when my present commissions are done i'll probably just finish the Dulcy comic on my own terms without his input. lol. without him giving me his critique anymore (seeing as he unwatched me anyway and went into hiding) i'll be able to decide how it ends. xD
