Title: Nostalgia Topic!
Post by: Rainberry on 2020-04-14 21:08:14
If you have a sudden moment of nostalgia and wish to share it with others, feel free to do so!

Okay, so I was stumbling around and was all of a sudden remembered of this.  WHO REMEMBERS this theme song?  So much nostalgia!  'Wishbone' the dog was a tv series and a direct to video series.

HOLY CRAP! WISHBONE! I FORGOT ALL ABOUT THAT!!!!!

I think this tune sounds great even now:
And back then, for me it was the best way to say «Congratulations! You got your own PC!».
When XP was common, everybody had their own computers already, so XP's startup sound doesn't had this effect of awesomeness.

And of course, some people can feel nostalgia for dial-up sound, but for me it was a thing which I tried to forget ASAP.

I totally forgot about Wishbone, Raine!  What a stellar memory.  That song is pretty catchy still.  The 80s and 90s had many catchy jingles and songs.  Today our music isn't either.

Since we are that computer kick, I remember a long long time ago playing this as a kid.

I haven't thought about this until just now. I had to have been like a tiny tot.  'The Living Books' games also did games for Arthurt and there Bear-instein bears (spelling).

@timmelon Oh my gosh, did you ever have this screensaver?  :D

^I didn't found a fun in them. 3D objects, 3D maze, 3D pipes — they bored me before I became a computer owner.
My favorite screensaver (for almost 20 years, i.e. always) is the monitor sleep ;D.

As for sounds — these epic chords (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-bFCe6FbbZ0&t=68) return me to times, when «you need to cut down trees to harvest wood» was a pinnacle of realism. ;D

I had this screensaver back on my old old Mac.  The classic flying toasters...  This had to have been the early 90s?

If we're throwing up nostalgic screensavers, allow me to throw this classic into the pot.

Wishbone, the screensavers, story time computer books!  I remember this all.

I know that screensaver! I used to just sit and stare at it.

I remember on my iMac (the colorful ones) there was a screensaver of a fish aquarium that was ultra realistic.

my iMac (the colorful ones)
Uhm... Like this one?

I always liked its look: weird, bulky, but attractive.
Today it's very easy to forget that some times ago Apple was not strongly associated only with iPods and iPhones.

^ I REMEMBER THOSE Computers!  They were so pretty in all the colors they came in.  Now Apple's are all white and silvery!  All sleek and void of emotion, lol.

Oh my gosh.... REMEMBER FRUIT ROLL UPS and FRUIT BY THE FOOT?  Do they even still make those?  I remember some fruit rolls had shapes and designs you could punch out and eat too.  Fruit by the Foot was an actual foot long and came in many flavors and colors and the wrapper had jokes or trivia the entire length!  Anyone else remember those?

Yes they still make both of them. I actually just finished off a box the other day. I buy them for lunch snacks. XD

I do remember them!  I'm gonna have to look for Fruit By the Foot.  Are they still actually a foot long?

More like 3 feet

I haven't thought of those fruit snacks since... wow.... maybe elementary school?  Wow.

WOW.  I was just reminded of this product from when I was growing up.  Looking at it, it is so nineties and such a dumb idea!  I never owned one but I remember even as a kid wondering why anyone would get one?

HitClips (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HitClips)

It was a device that you bought music for via cartridges.  It had all the "top" pop songs of the 90s and early 2000s.  But here's the extra dumb part, it only played a minute "the chorus" of the songs.  It played the "cool stuff" and got rid of the stuff you didn't have time for.  It was supposed to be cool.  Maybe this ad will rejig your memory of them too.

And here is an example of a cartridge being played on the HitClip Mini Boombox.

The odd thing is I do remember these commercials. I just don’t know out of everything my brain remembers, why this?
Title: Re: Nostalgia Topic!
Post by: Silverwing on 2020-09-15 18:30:13
! lol!  ^ Same with me!  The only reason I brought it up because I was just working and for some reason my brain remembered these.  Out of the blue.  It took me awhile to find out what the name was.  But it was so random.  I never even used them or cared.

That is so random, Silverwing.  I remember these, but I don't know anyone who owned one.  I never owned one and thought they were worthless.  Why not just buy a CD with the songs you liked on it back then?  What is a 1 minute clip gonna do?

While we're on the subject of nostalgic boy bands, let me throw another old commercial at you for this one called "Dream Street". I don't know if anyone else remembers this one but I swear to god, every time I turned on Cartoon Network back in the late 90's to 2000, this commercial came on ALL THE TIME.

Sadly though....the reason I went looking for it was because I heard some sad news. One of the members of that old boy band died earlier this year from COVID. The remaining four all got together online to sing a small tribute to him with their best known song.

I gosh... I remember that ad.  OH GOSH.

AND I REMEMBER HITCLIPS. OH GOSH.

Those cassettes are pretty spendy.  Also seeing that ad, I could have sworn they were much older than that when I was a kid.

So when will people start feeling nostalgic for the 2000s or 2010s?

Gosh, I miss it when literally every ad had such catchy songs.  That Radio Shack song is a real hit.  It hits ALL the right notes to be catchy.  This stuff wasn't THAT long ago, but it's getting further and further each day.  It was such a simpler and dare I say, better time.

Radio Shack

Kmart

^ Those songs are too catchy for their own good.

Oh my gosh, WISHBONE!  I never really watched it, but I remember the theme song.  Reminds me of things like Clifford, Kipper, or those Beethoven the dog movies.

Remember party stores like Party City?  Well soon you will be only remembering them.  Party City just filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy.  It might not be long.  Those aisles full of costumes, various colored balloons and party supplies,  Silly plastic toys, all that might be disappearing.  So go get some nostalgia at them before they are gone for good.

I liked it when the color coordinated certain sections of the stores with colored items of said color.

I remember the massive bulk candy section too, mostly all the candy's you'd never wanna buy. ;D  Hard candies and gummy stuff. lol.  Gimme the chocolate!

If their restricting works out, they can still exist as a company, but I feel they would need to cut a massive footprint with so many stores.  Cut many, and downsize the stores themselves.

I don't get why people would buy stuff from those stores when all these party supplies could be bought at the dollar store for literally a dollar.  Plus Walmart and Target have party supplies cheaper.  Party City never made sense to me.

So I was chatting with Google Gemini (after I just made one of my famous Saturday morning cartoon
blog (https://www.deviantart.com/haggismccrablice/art/The-Stuff-of-Heroes-1309235659) posts (https://www.deviantart.com/haggismccrablice/art/The-Smoking-Cat-Productions-offices-2-1265716000), and the subject of Paulina Gillis (http://Paulina Gillis), a.k.a. Tabitha St. Germain, came up.  Whenever a nostalgia nut like myself speaks of most any cartoon of the eighties and ninteties, chances are she, Tara Charendoff (later Strong) or Alyson Court played a part in it--The Three Divas of Canadian animation, I've dubbed them.

Note whenever Rarity gets overtired or really upset, her posh accent slips a touch and she whines just like Kootie Pie (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6wK6-jYyCu4) or ALF's baby sister (https://youtu.be/cyX8BfZ25Xc?t=389). The poor dear's development is more arrested than [here the author of this post makes a rather ethnically-insensitive comment that might have been fine back in 1994 but most certainly is not acceptable in 2026; he is sent to a sensitivity camp=slash-reeducation center for six months, whereupon he returns to finish this post]

So when will people start feeling nostalgic for the 2000s or 2010s?
Ugh, it'll take a while for me. Not the most stellar time for me, what with a mountain of rejection letters from publishers, a string of lousy jobs, failed relationships, high (for the day--1.50/gal) gas prices, and the ascension/election of Barack Obama.  And let me tell you something else, me buckos--      [here the author of this post is whisked away and returned to the reeducation center to learn more sensitivity skills]
