Title: Another old Scooby Doo two panel comic. I believe it's one of my best! (M)
Post by: Daphine on 2021-03-30 21:42:46
I know that I posted this before but it was a long, long time ago.

I can't remember exactly when I first drew this comic.  There are hints that help tell me that it was very early.  Probably early high school years.  I do remember that when I first drew this comic that I wanted it to look real, not cartoony like a lot of my art.  I didn't want his pre-sneeze look to be to be overly exaggerated.  I didn't want his eye's to look to goofy or for his nose to be running like a garden hose.

So, Scooby Doo is hiding under a small end table that has a vase of freshly picked flowers on it.  He hears people enter the room which cause a wave of fear to wash over him.  This causes him to start to shake with fear and his shaking causes the pollen in the flowers to come loose.  The loose pollen floats down and all around his large sensitive nose.  Quickly the pollen does it's tickly job to his nose causing a powerful sneeze to quickly build.  Scooby hardly has a chance to try and stop his building sneeze before it explodes out with a mighty RRAAAACHOOOOOOOWWW!!!!!.  The sneeze has so much force when it erupts from his nose that it causes him to hit his head on the table over his head and the vase of flowers and water land on top of his head.  The sneeze and the damage to the end table easily gives our canine hero away :(.

Very on-model and show-accurate.   Could be an actual scene from a storyboard, if not a finished cartoon.

Thank you NostradamusTheSeer  ;D.  That was exactly what I was going for.  I was really trying to go for accuracy and not so much cartoony.  The way I usually draw Scooby Doo sneezing  :)) .

I would say it is a very good one too.  Very on-model as @NostradamusTheSeer said.  I actually recall seeing this before... in a life long long ago, lol.

Thank you Silverwing :D.  I can't begin to tell you how happy I am to read such comments as "Very on-model" like NostradamusTheSeer said earlier  ;D.  Thank you both for that :D .  It really does amaze me how old a comic like this one is.  I wrote "There are hints that help tell me that it was very early."  To give some idea's about what I am talking about.  If you look at the lines I drew around Scooby's nose to indicate that it is shaking, the lines are rounded but straight.  About 15 years ago I switched to a more harsh squiggly kind of line to indicate that my character is REALLY righting with there building sneeze.  Here is a recent example of what I'm talking about

Nice job, Daphine.

Thank you Smile2us ;D.  As always your the best ;D

Wow, this is sooooooo good!!  ^b- I remember having seen this before, a really long time ago - I think it was the very first time I saw one of your drawings at all, @Daphine , and I got very excited about it! I think I didn't even know Scooby Doo then, LOL!
I really like the way you draw his sneeziness. I like all of your drawings, but this "real" style you're using here is especially good, I think.
You are so talented!

Thank you kiku!  I have always felt very unsure about myself when it comes to the subject of Scooby Doo but you always make me feel far more comfortable in my own skin.  Thank you so much for that :').  On to your comment.  So you didn't know Scooby Doo back then?  I'm not sure where you live.  Living here in the United States I always thought that Scooby Doo was kind of a universal character.  Now I think that I just put my feelings for Scooby and figured everyone harbored them :))

LOL, I think Scooby Doo is well known here in Germany too, but I never watch cartoons, so I might be almost the only person around who didn't know him.  :D
I did watch cartoons as a kid though, but strangely, I can't remember to have seen him - I'm sure I wouldn't have forgotten such a sneezy character! >>()

That is really interesting to me.  I know Scooby is/was "beloved" around the world.  He was quite popular in Asian countries like Japan and Taiwan too. They sell more merchandise of him there then they probably do in the US. lol.
