Hello guys, as I mentioned in the Artwork General Discussion topic, I found a very old post regarding a comic idea of Smiles2Us's pony sneezing. I was searching this forum if anyone has ever drawn a comic of the idea, but I never found any, so I thought I'd take a stab at it :) . So, along with a few artist notes, I'd love to share with you my comic of Smiles2Us sneezing.
Artist's Notes: Design
With permission from @Smiles2us , she was awesome to provide me with reference images to assist me in drawing her, as well as confirming a custom eye color. There were two versions of Smiles I noticed:
- One depicting her with blonde mane and tail, along with a ribbon on the back of her head.
- A more common depiction of her with a red colored mane and tail.
I couldn't decide on which one to draw, so I gave her the best of both worlds and combined both of those styles together, resulting in a mane with a color scheme similar to Sunset Shimmer and Fire Flare (https://derpibooru.org/images/2442400?q=Fire+Flare). :))
Artist's Notes: No Mess!
Although I usually draw my sneezy comics with comically absurd amounts of mess, I wanted to dedicate this special comic to non-mess lovers as well and thus decided not to draw messy sneezes. Smiles2Us remains squeaky clean throughout the entire miniature story (except for a few tears of allergies and embarrassment ;) ).
Comic and Individual Pages
I drew my Smiles2Us miniature story as an extended comic. Here are the pages, as well as the thumbnails. Hope you enjoy [excited] [excited] [excited]

This was pretty nice! You're awesome at drawing nostril flares, and I loved how the petal got stuck in Smiles2Us’s nostril, though my only complaints are that I wish it went a teeny bit deeper into that lovely little cavern, and that I didn't actually get a good shot of the nostril. It's admittedly my favorite way a sneeze happens, something going inside a nostril, especially if I can get a nice view of the nostril hole as the irritant is trekking in there. ;D And my favorite part of a sneeze, in case it wasn't obvious from my earlier compliment in this paragraph, has to be the nostril flare. The bigger the better, but not grossly exaggerated like in Pony Life.

THIS IS SO GREAT! I just.... This finally came true and it's so lovely! Clean, no mess, it's beautiful! I love the creative liberties you took too, and the MASSIVE bow! lol! Love it. Smart idea with the hair color too! Awesome work! The nostril flares are beautiful too!

AHHH! Is this not the funniest and cutest thing ever?! Look at how embarrassed Smiles is! Haha! I absolutely love this! I love how flustered she gets and oh my gosh!!! I love how much you teased her nose with those pesky flower petals! It was beautiful! What a fantastic comic you've made here, and honestly, the sneezes are beautiful! The way her nostrils flare and her sneezes build up before leading to an awesome sneezing fit is great. The banter of 'us' in the computer are perfect! It sounds just like how we would react. ;D Lol! I so love this. Awesome job, @Kmlp! ^b-
-
I will also add that you treating her character with respect and not 'destroying' her with snot and making her . . . destroyed after the sneezing fit, is very nice. ;D The sneeze spray is very nice. Her embarrassment to all of this seems to give me strength! Lol! :D
-
Great! You made a massive comic with a lot of events and details... and very stretchy nostrils ;D.
I can easily name this your best artwork so far.
-
2022-2023 is the PSF artist era of Kmlp! Lol! I cannot even tell you how happy this made me. It brings me so much joy to see a beloved friend and member like Smiles drawn! You captured her character perfectly and I liked your take on her made and eyes. Those eyes are soooooo detailed. ;D Her sneezes are so cute and adorable and really, everything about this is cute and adorable. This is exactly how I picture Smiles reacting to anyone even noticing her sneezing. She doesn't like to be seen sick, sneezy, or anything. So this is like comic gold! So good!
Oh and the pre-sneeze faces. How can I not talk about those? They are so great. The sneezes too and the nostrils! I love how the sneeze urge attacks her, she stops it, then it comes back even though she thought she vanquished it! Everything about this is great and just brings me so much joy!
I give this 5 out of 5 sneezes!

If you could see the mix of embarrassment, joy, and sheer shock on my face, I think you'd be confused. ;D Lol! I'm embarrassed because this involves me and it acts like me! I am joy struck because, well, it's awesome and it's about me. ;) I am in shock because it is SO AWESOME and it's just like something I would do AND it's about me! Lol! Where do I begin with this?
I love it. <3 I absolutely love it. <3
The attention to detail, my awesome windowed office, my new styling touches unique to each artist, I just love seeing this kind of stuff. The amount of sneezy torture my poor little snoot went through to have such a fit, AND to have it all accidentally recorded! Hahaha, I must say, that is such a funny concept and idea! I laughed because this is so silly, over the top, and just a lot of fun. I love the nostrils, my expressions, and how you spelled the sneezes! It's so lovely! I'm just gonna cherish this comic forever in my little collection of Smiles stuff!
I wish I could just hug you or give you a hand shake or something!! It's so great! I don't know how else to say it without just repeating what I've already said! I love this so much and you did such an amazing job! Thank you so much for finding that comment by Silverwing so long and ago and doing all the research you did to make such an incredible comic!
I love it!!! <3 <3 <3 Thank you!

What a great jump in quality with this comic too! I have to point this out, all the details in this. Look at the backgrounds and extra set pieces around this comic. Also what a great location Smiles' office seems to be in. A nice grassy field! :D
The progression of this comic is really well done and people with a sneeze kink will certainly love this. But this will have a special place in the hearts of PSF members, especially those close to the community! I think you did your homework and even took liberties on her design. That's a good thing as each artist will interpret things differently. I like seeing what artists will do with the same basic details of a character.
As Rainy said, I think you treated her character with respect, but had a ton of fun and actually made a funny comic out of it. Funny and it included sneezes! Great job on this comic, Kmlp!

Looks like you have an instant success here, Kmlp! :D

Thank you guys. It rly means a lot that you enjoyed this comic [excited].
===========================================================================================
@Crimson Crest I'm glad you enjoyed the comic despite the nostril flares not being too in-depth. And ikr? I thought it was pretty funny to include the second flower petal getting lodged in Smile's nose.

@RainySunshine yooo you also remember that old post from @Silverwing too? I'm glad you do and I'm rly happy that you enjoy this comic too, as well as my design for Smiles [excited]. And LOL yeah I admit was lowkey tempted to "destroy" Smiles, but I just couldn't bring myself to do it.

@Soda I admit, while I was drawing this I got very cute vibes, and normally I don't usually feel that with my own drawings. But yeeee, Smiles is very embarrassed and I agree it's very cute ;) And oooh yes: the dialogue from her laptop is reflective of how we would respond to her sneeze. And I'm glad you enjoyed the whole fiasco with her and the flower petals.

Thanks @timmelon ! I agree: this is prob my best comic so far, as well as the only one I've attempted to make a mini story for.

@Anyponedrawn Aaaaay I'm glad you enjoyed this as well. Glad you love my take on her design, as well as her character. And yeee: based on my research on this character, this is the best I could come up with when placing her in a scenario where she sneezes in public lmao. Glad you love it ;) . Poor Smiles: couldn't stop her own sneeze.
Five out of five sneezes? BRO LESGO!!!
(Instant success? I'm not sure what that means in this context, but success is gud so LESGO [excited])

Not gonna lie @Smiles2us I didn't expect you to see this on the same day I posted it LOL. I'm really happy to hear that you enjoyed this comic, and that I was able to accurately depict your character as well, even if it was embarrassing ;) . I'm happy that you were able to get a good laugh out of this as well, especially the part where you accidentally recorded your entire fit [excited][excited][excited][excited].
Aren't there emojis for both a hug and a handshake? Yooo there are emojis for handshakes and hugs. In that case, have both🤝🤝🤝🤝🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗 It really means a lot that you enjoyed this comic, and it's hard for me to say via text how happy I am to hear that you enjoyed the little details of it. Have fun adding this to your collection of Smiles stuff: you have five pages of Smiles content; they are especially dedicated to you :)

@Crimson Crest I'm glad you enjoyed the comic despite the nostril flares not being too in-depth. And ikr? I thought it was pretty funny to include the second flower petal getting lodged in Smile's nose.
Oh, it wasn't a problem for me that the nostril flares weren't too in-depth. I just meant that I didn't care for how the petal was obstructing my view of the nostril's interior. As I said, I like it best when I can see into the nostril while the thing teasing it is inside (well, unless the object is big enough that it's kinda just supposed to fully obstruct the view, like a finger or some other long, broad object, in which case I'm fine with seeing where it enters the nostril, if that makes any sense).
...Actually, that kind of sounds confusing. How about I give an example: there used to be this artist on FurAffinity that made a work called "Mouse Doctor's Next Patient", and the bottom right panel of the comic had a first person view from the mouse's POV in which it was using a Q–Tip to tickle a sneeze out of a horse's nostrils. That way, I could see into the nostril from outside while the Q–tip was in there as well. If any of you've seen that comic, then you know what I'm talking about. Does that clarify what I said very much?
-
Oooh yee. I get what you mean now. :)
I've never seen that artist or that piece, but I understand the picture clearer now by having an object stuck and still being able to view the inside.
-

Sorry if you wanna check it out, but apparently the artist removed their account, since I get a system error when I click on links to their page. :(

So I’m just noticing this and holy wow this is amazing. I love the new mane style Smiles horse has. Very cute and very business-ey of her! As for this whole sequence itself, this is pretty much what I imagine a real meeting between Darrin and Smiles would be like. Almost down to the word, it’s eerie on a few levels. What else can I say but, well done and keep on being awesome!
-
As Smiles counterpart, I must say this brings me GREAT joy. *Devious smile and rubs hands together in a scheming fashion* Bwaaa ha haaa haaaa!
Seriously though, this is great! I love seeing art of our own member's here, especially when it's Smiles. ;) You did such a great job and her buildup is awesome! I think I can safely say without being hit in the head, she does have a pretty cute and long buildup before her sneezes sometimes. ;) Awesome work!
-
I've been away pretty much all week and I come here to see this! DUDE! This is incredible! You really hit this one out of the ballpark! A home-run! Love what you did with it all, the fine details, Smile's pupils!!! Her hair is good, I like her outfit, and bet of all, I love the focus on her silly cuteness when sneezing. Oh! And the sneezing is incredible. I love the building up, the double nostril tease thanks to those super flower petals. Her nostrils were absolute magnets to those things. ;D Hahaha! I actually laughed at the fun shown in this comic. Super impressed and the quality is awesome! Great comic!
-
I'm with the others in feeling that this is a fantastic comic, and it's pretty cool to see a non mess sneezes from you. Smile's design is lovely, and I particually like how smug she looks in the 2nd panel of the first page ;D

I'm glad you enjoyed this too @Silverwing. Just remember too: you were the one who had this idea in the Artwork General Discussion topic, so this comic wouldn't really have been if it wasn't for you :) . Glad you had fun too; I had a LOT of fun writing this mini story and turning it into a comic as well.

Thanks for reading! I'm happy that you enjoyed it too, and I gotta admit it was a very interesting change of pace for me to draw a non-mess piece, let alone an extended comic too. And saaaame dude: I love how Smiles' smug look turned out; that's one of my favorite panels I drew.
-
Oh my goodness! This is incredible! It's super cute first of all and the subject being Smiles is perfect! What a clever idea! It's so cute and her reaction to things is adorable. I love the sneezy build ups and the sneezing fit that ensues. I really like her expressions on the second page, panel 4 and six. :D I appreciate no mess as well! It's nice to see some good spray sneezes for her, well spelled out.
-
Hahaha! This is so much fun and so well done! I love the expressions and her beautiful buildup accompanied by those cheeky teases! Fantastic artwork on this entire comic! It was long and fantastic. Her sneezes were great and each one was different! I love all the different angles and the silly responses from those on the other end of her webcam. ;) Awesome comic, Kmlp!

I gotta admit. For a comic about sneezing being embarrassing, Smiles is the perfect star of this :) . Thanks for reading, and glad you love her expressions and sneezes!

I do not know if you want the comment that is in my head...I want to share my thoughts, but it's...a long long comment XD
In all seriousness, the art you create makes me smile =) thank you. Thank you so much for taking time drawing this.
@mysteryserpent It's okay. Please share your thoughts :) . I don't mind taking the time to read it [excited] [excited]

What an event this comic turned out to be! It is really awesome! Great work!
-
Really great comic! I like the expressions you gave Smiles and I love her sneezes! Fantastic.
Is it bad I would love to see a messy edit? Well, not as messy as the other comics you've made, but just a little bit. ;)
Nonetheless awesome!

This turned out super great, Kmlp! I love how much work you put into this and all the research put into it as well. Love her reactions, they are so true to life and cute. I found it humorous how like literally anything that could tickle her nose kinda does, like a sign of fate or something. ;D Great work! Always look forward to your future projects!

I was considering drawing this as a messy sneeze comic tbh. Nah, I don't think it's bad to want to see a messy edit, but I think I'll leave it as-is for everyone to enjoy ;D

I can't add anything that hasn't't already been said. Great job on this great comic!

Really a great comic and I do love seeing Smiles in such a silly situation. Fantastic build up, it made me chuckle. I loved the sneezing.

Fabulously drawn comic. Her sneezes are wet and have lovely buildups! I love all the nose teasing and nostril flaring. Lovely comic and drawings.

Ok. Sorry for the long delay...this took longer than I care to admit to write, but I loved what you were able to create here =)
Here I go

Immediately, the thing that stands out to me with what you did was how clear and easy to see the format is. The use of black for borders on the panels helps the individual panels stand out from each other. The backgrounds do not blend all together because of these black lines. I really like that =)
The very first panel is awesome to me. The background surrounds are simple but do great at showing where the situation is happening. I love how this first panel hints at what is going to happen with the flower being nearby. The dialogue is a lot but because of how the first panel is, the details of the character and surroundings are not hidden at all.
I like how her dialogue connects to the second panel. She didn't pause talking at all and it was like lady fate or karma herself heard what was said and set things in motion. Literally.
I love the way you draw eyes. The details of the lines and colors are honestly fascinating to look at. When I see these eyes, my mind goes way back to when I first saw the MLP friendship is magic character designs and how large but fun their eyes were.
The sound effect letters are different than the speaking dialogue letters, and I really like seeing these effect letters =) I LOVE how the flower is not just randomly having a part float in the air for no reason. The flower bending and reacting to the woosh air is great to see.
The panel that I thought the most about in the entire comic, and kept rechecking days after I first saw the panel, is this first page's "brush" panel. I think the way how both eyes focus and look crossed towards her nose, the nose detail itself, seeing the letters next to the nose, and the way how her entire face expression shifted in a little tilting look that makes me think of my pet cat or a dog looking curious at something unexpected. This tilting face expression is very effective at drawing my attention towards what is causing the brush. The loose flower petal. My mind literally HEARS the tiny brushing sound effect noise this petal could be doing XD
The final panel of the first page is also great to me. The scrunch lines along her muzzle amplify how the itch is not just being felt by her nostrils. The nostrils themselves are AWESOME at showing the spike rise in urgency together with the effect lines near her nose. The flower petal did not just brush against one nostril, it brushed against her nose itself and both nostrils are feeling the urge start to form.
This final panel also has sweet extra details of showing how her ears and eyes changed how they looked with this new beginning urge that is clearly felt. Her ears lower while her eyes shrink. She knows that her words are meaningless right now. The urge formed, and now she needs to figure out what to do quickly or else XD
This is the first page. There's a lot more I want to say with the other pages =) If you want me to say more I can. I can stop here if you want me to.
EACH page has charm and I enjoyed seeing what you were able to create with this idea. Smiles is awesome, and it is sweet seeing her character design in a comic

@Wolfwood @Grapefoot @FoxTail Glad you enjoyed this comic :)) It was so much fun bringing this funny scenario to life [excited]
@mysteryserpent Thank you for your detailed response. Your attention to detail and observations really mean a lot, and I do appreciate hearing that you got a good laugh or enjoyed the whole idea of Smiles saying something with the forces of nature proving her wrong 🤣 . Reading your response makes me realize too how engaging it is from another point of view; as an artist, I can never feel the same surprises and fun that an audience would when reading my own comic (though, that is to be expected since I planned, and drew this all out), so I'm really happy to hear that this page alone catches your attention this much lol.
If you'd like to respond to the other pages, please go right ahead; I love your detailed responses [excited] [excited]

An incredibly detailed and beautiful comic. I don't know what else to add. I loved watching her struggle to hold back those sneezes, but it was just too much for her! Lovely work.
-
Nice comic! I am really impressed Kmlp! I read through the whole comic and all the comments. I really don't have much to add because everyone else said it so well! I am excited for anything else you come up with!
-
It's super fantastic indeed! Glad people are still finding this. ;D

Woot!!! Nice job!! Getting close!!

Ooooh, so close! It will hit 1k today!

1,000 has been hit!!!! Celebrate! Not many artists achieve this based on what others are saying. ;D

This is such a cute set of drawings in this comic. I can feel the work and effort put into it. I love the build up and how she fights it! Great comic!!
