Title: Christmas 2025!
Post by: MasterXtreme on 2025-11-27 11:04:18
MERRY CHRISTMAS!

It is time to celebrate Christmas the PSF way!! String the lights, expand the village, sip some cocoa, extend the garland, and place thewreaths! Set up the Christmas tree as the scent of fresh pine fills the room!  We got a warm fire, freshly baked soft chocolate chunk cookies, and a hot pot of apple cider! Pour yourself a glass!  It's Christmas time everybody and it's time to enjoy your traditions and share with one another!

Merry Christmas PSF!

With everything this year has thrown at life, it's hard to believe it is already December but at the same time some parts of this year felt like an eternity.

I hope that this year Christmas time is a good time for many people! Not just with the day itself but with the season leading up to the day.

Now I'm trying to go through one christmas movie/special a night....Just watched the Star Wars holiday special tonight.

Is that just the cutesy fun family ones, or are we counting the horror holiday movies and specials too?  Perhaps I should do a special post or blog on a few of my favorites there.  Because, let's face it, about two, two-and-a-half weeks in I start to notice how much got-dang alike these films are after awhile. They start to bleed together. Christy Carlson Romano , I love you, doll, believe me, but you've done, like three Hallmark Christmas movies in as many years. I worry you may burn out on the holly-jollies. I think I've talked before about hearing the same song in several different holiday offerings in a row.  Yes; here (https://psfforum.com/index.php?topic=688.msg588754#msg588754) it is (https://psfforum.com/index.php?topic=4262.msg590114#msg590114).  I miss the Christmas cartoon specials we used to have when I was young. For example, anyone remember the California Raisins?

I still sing this old hymn this way after close to forty years, thanks to those big plump purple musical fruits.

^ Lol! The California Raisins?  No, I don't remember that. ;D

I watched the old Frosty the Snowman.  The movie with Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, the stop motion one.  I also watched the animated Grinch movie and the SNow-mizer/Heat-miser movies!  Those are key Christmas movies of my childhood. :D

I watched the old Frosty the Snowman.  The movie with Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer... the animated Grinch movie and the Snow-mizer/Heat-miser movies!  Those are key Christmas movies of my childhood. :D

You have wonderful taste, doll.  I wouldn't mind cuddling up with a pretty little thing like you some chill dark night to binge-watching a few shows from each of our lists.   <3   [excited]

Here's another obscure animated treat from right around that period, called The Raccoons (https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/WesternAnimation/TheRaccoons) Christmas Special.

I've just discovered this series quite recently.  It must not have aired on any of the American TV stations I grew up watching.  Maybe they're the Canuck cousins of the Shirt Tales (https://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=https://i.ytimg.com/vi/F5yXfeRU5ho/hq720.jpg?sqp%3D-oaymwEhCK4FEIIDSFryq4qpAxMIARUAAAAAGAElAADIQj0AgKJD%26rs%3DAOn4CLBqEEw7qAS_ZdysjIylzMDGR03uwQ&imgrefurl=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v%3DF5yXfeRU5ho&h=386&w=686&tbnid=Hb60ZMztgYjlvM&q=Shirt+Tales&tbnh=78&tbnw=139&usg=AI4_-kTZ-MO-pENAvFRRLA9OOXMMwkD7ag&vet=1&docid=PRtbIiqh7O-hdM&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwiy1pnxr62RAxVQCnkGHSiZEXMQ9QF6BAgYEAY)...?       Another favorite show from my youth that's probably a bit before your time, my dear....

Canadian animation used to be better, and uniquely strange. ;D  ^ The Raccoons is an example of that.  It's weird that theme song of their's hard dark undertones to it.
Title: I thought I saw passion in her eyes, but it was just a booger
Post by: NostradamusTheSeer on 2025-12-08 19:44:41
Hm, yes--I remember thinking, upon hearing the closing credits theme, it's a very odd choice for a children's animated series with prosocial undertones.

The lyrics about "passion in your eyes","desperate love", and "we are free" feel like they'd be better suited to a romantic comedy...or a series of a more--erhm--adult nature.    :-0

Plus, that's pretty quality animation for the time--really holds up well.  Looks as if they had a pretty decent-sized production budget, compared to many of the smaller Canadian houses coming up in the seventies (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grantray-Lawrence_Animation#Filmography) and eighties (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nelvana#History).

Title: Re: Christmas 2025!
Post by: Silverwing on 2025-12-09 00:14:05
Everything about the Raccoons was strange.  It had very big and obvious political messages and they somehow got some pop stars to make music for them.  It's a really weird thing. ;D
Title: And a young Alanis Morrissette got slimed on YOU CAN"T DO THAT ON TELEVISION
Post by: NostradamusTheSeer on 2025-12-09 00:54:46
Oh, I dunno.  Cyndi Lauper (https://www.google.com/search?q=uper+sang+the+theme+to+%5Bi%5DPee-Wee%27s+Playhouse%5B%2Fi%5D&rlz=1CAXGER_enUS782US783&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8), I was surprised to learn, sang the theme to Pee-Wee's Playhouse-- which has one awesome Christmas special, too, bee-tee-dubs.  I guess it depends a lot on if these groups were already big then or achieved their success some years later on.

So besides the TV shows, the tradition I like most is the annual Christmas parade.  [popcorn]  The ones they have in the town I've moved to, sadly, aren't quite as big or festive as the ones I grew up with back home (https://www.facebook.com/events/d41d8cd9/blytheville-christmas-parade/1987914085007686/)--to start with, they're held at ten a.m. on Saturday rather than Friday at night.  Boo.   Secondly, no horses.  It simply isn't the same without horses.    <izzy> <sunnystar> <misty>    The real fun part of watching these majestic beasts go by is seeing at which point on the route one of them drops a deuce... then, seeing, A. if it's still lying there on Main Street come Sunday morning, and trying to guess how long it's going to remain there , B. how long it takes before a car hits it and leaves a tire-track down the center, and C. how long before it dries up and turns white.   C:-)    For the record, a good-sized horse turd takes about two and a half weeks to fully turn to dust and blow away on the breeze.
Title: Re: Christmas 2025!
Post by: Soda on 2025-12-09 12:20:15
I love Christmas parades.  The towns and cities around me are afraid to say Christmas, so they say words like "festive parade" "winter parade" "winter lights show" and dumb stuff like that.

One of my favorite memories from childhood christmas's, movies as gifts.

On the other hand, it's easier to carry media in "the cloud" than pack and lug your records, VCR tapes, CD's, and DVD's whenever you move.  So this Christmas, give your loved one a subscription to Legacybox (https://legacybox.com/products/legacybox-digitizing-kit?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=%28ROI%29+Generic+Tapes&utm_id=301705472&utm_content=62178816441&utm_term=tape+to+digital+service&tw_source=google&tw_adid=775221484269&tw_campaign=301705472&tw_kwdid=kwd-334506038159&fl_adid=775221484269&fl_adsrc=google&fl_adntw=g&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=301705472&gbraid=0AAAAADoeJTAeCVwHVq00vckre25wQSzXZ&gclid=CjwKCAiA0eTJBhBaEiwA-Pa-hXgplOhINavRN0gDfRy9TM53Y5uNrenGdoVu06Nu841zhBsyPixARxoCyYMQAvD_BwE&view=sl-82A81388)--the premier content-digitizing firm in the business. Their all-in-one mailing kit makes it super easy to digitize your videotapes and photos. They're an industry leader in preserving your most cherished memories.

(No, I'm not getting paid to say this.  Wish I was.  I'm a mixtape maker from way back--got lots of cool stuff on audiocassette. Back during the Clinton/Bush The Elder/Perot debates I taped some comedy bits off the radio that are now super-rare. This was over thirty years ago, when a white guy (https://musicbrainz.org/artist/e542f3fb-ff95-4f3b-92a6-ca97780e4a69) could mock a black political figure (https://www.google.com/search?gs_ssp=eJzj4tTP1TcwNDGxLDdg9OLPyS_NLFZISywqSszOSMwDAHFuCNw&q=louis+farrakhan&rlz=1CAXGER_enUS782US783&oq=loius+farrakjhan&aqs=chrome.1.69i57j46i13i433i512j46i13i512j0i13i512l6.8048j0j15&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8)'s voice with impunity.)

I hate "the cloud."  There is no ownership.  No manuals or neat things to look at.  It's so sterile.

I have used Legacy Box before.  It was great.  I have our family videos all digitized.

What a coincidence... while out walking my dogs, inspired by the decorations at the neighborhood garage, I just began humming this tune:

See, they got a reindeer behind the wheel of a monster truck chasing after a little old woman using a walker, rendered in colorful twinkle lights. They're real sick [bleep]s over there, believe me. One of several candidates for worst Christmas special ever, it seems, right up there with Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer, Robbie the Reindeer (https://robbiereindeer.fandom.com/wiki/Robbie), Santa and the Ice Cream Bunny (https://psfforum.com/index.php?topic=699.msg688890#msg688890), and that version of A Christmas Carol where it opens with a kid peeing in Jacob Marley's face (https://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-7793625/BBC-brings-F-words-urinating-graves-Charles-Dickens-Christmas-Carol.html), and it all goes downhill from there.

Yes, those eyes!  they're very large and languid, aren't they? Like a Margaret Keane painting (https://www.google.com/search?sca_esv=1350d843fa3f0341&rlz=1CAXGER_enUS782US783&biw=1575&bih=731&tbm=isch&sxsrf=AE3TifPbfd9f1RpNn_Y2WY-irYgc2buMNg%3A1766302889819&oq=&aqs=&q=Yes%2C+those+eyes%21+they%27re+very+large+and+languid%2C+aren%27t+they%3F+Like+a+Margaret+Keane+painting+come+to+life.) come to life.

Another Christmas cartoon along these lines, featuring two precious orphans and a Scrooge-like guardian.  It's rather cute, actually.  Not to be confused with Deck The Halls  With Wacky Walls (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deck_the_Halls_with_Wacky_Walls), which was apparently a 30-minute animated commercial for crappy rubber cereal box toys (https://www.facebook.com/DinosaurDracula/posts/wacky-wallwalkers-were-probably-the-most-famous-cereal-box-prizes-of-the-80s-the/1237396991723120/).

...We watched "It's a Wonderful Life" as a family after Christmas dinner.  We had a ham!
You certainly seem excited about that ham, dear.   :o

One of my favorite things about Christmas is walking about town looking at the decorations in people's yards. One end of town really goes all in on ornate light displays; the other seems prefer inflatables--everything from Santa Clauses to elves and reindeer to a festive Mickey and Minnie Mouse. One of my favorites is the place that's  got a blow-up Santa seated atop a great big bouncy house. One year a mooring rope supporting him came loose, so Santa was tilted sharply to one side--it looked like he was breaking wind down the chimney.  "Here's your present, little Suzie. Oh, you know what you did to deserve that, you ho-ho-ho'."  It's barely three days after Christmas, and everybody's already taken their light displays down--the bank, the CPA's office, the hardware store, the community  center.  Back to business so fast? A bit Grinchy, don't you think? At least leave 'em out 'til the day after New Year's,  how 'bout it.
