 I am looking forward to the new Attack of the Killer Tomatoes movie AotKM: Organic Intelligence (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Attack_of_the_Killer_Tomatoes:_Organic_Intelligence).  Loved the first four films and the animated series. I was especially intrigued to read that John Astin, the 95-year old actor, who played "irked" scientist Dr. Mortimer Gangrene in all but the first film, is coming out of retirement for this one.

 Y'know he's one of the last surviving cast members of both The Addams Family and the 1966 Batman series?

Not many plot details available, and I don't even know if it's seeing theatrical release or just a streaming debut... but the other four Killer Tomatoes movies are all available at YouTube.  So it looks like I've got a good couple nights of binging ahead o'me to prepare.

Looks like it, according to the trailer.  Maybe a bit of GCI, too, for long shots, and scenes like that huge gun battle. "The decks ran red with ketchup...."

Star Wars has lost ALL appeal to me.  Disney has drove it into the ground just like Marvel.  It's all the same green-screen CGI content anymore.

I hope they can take a step back and actually BUILD to the world in a meaningful way instead of just cash grabs.

Well I think they're on their way towards that. Kathleen Kennedy has stepped down as president of Lucasfilms. Dave Filoni is now the president.

For those of you who don't know, Dave Filoni is the mind behind a LOT of star wars including the Clone Wars show.

The fans are actually pleased about this. Filoni learned directly under George Lucas about everything lorewise when it came to Star Wars. If there was ever any body to fill the shoes of Lucas, the man who started it all, it’s Filoni.

Someone in control doesn't mean they are writing the stories.  Disney is going to want the money and story be darned.  Hopefully the writers and the person in charge truly take the care and time needed for success.

I miss their video game division they used to have.  Some pretty great games.

Well things aren't looking good. Critics are going at the new Disney film already.  Truthfully, I hadn't even heard of a new one coming either. We will see what happens for the house of mouse. I watched the trailer and it looked fine to me.

Disney's first 'Star Wars' movie in seven years is tracking to be yet another massive disappointment

When The Walt Disney Company bought out Lucasfilm and, by extension, the "Star Wars" universe, expectations were that the two combined companies would make Hollywood’s most popular franchise even bigger.

Instead of going decades between "Star Wars" movies, Disney would put its creative might behind more consistent releases and expanding the universe. The company would release movies as part of the "core" stories, then do films or shows that focused on side characters or other stories.

Initially, it seemed like the approach, led primarily by then-Lucasfilm head Kathleen Kennedy, would be a success. "The Force Awakens" was a gigantic success, and while it didn’t exactly reinvent the wheel creatively, it launched the new Disney era of "Star Wars" with a whopping $937 million domestic box office gross. Adjusted for inflation, that’s $1.24 billion.

Well, with few exceptions, almost everything to come out of the "Star Wars" universe since has degraded the brand and fan expectations. Yes, "Andor" is widely praised. The first season of "The Mandalorian" was a big hit. And "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" has seen its reputation improve since its release in 2016.

On the other hand, there was the remarkably "woke" Disney+ show "The Acolyte," which was canceled after one poorly viewed season. "The Last Jedi" and "The Rise of Skywalker" were widely disliked. Other movies like "Solo: A Star Wars Story" were critical and box office disappointments. And even "The Mandalorian" has seen its impact diminish.

Sure enough, the first "Star Wars" movie in nearly seven years, "The Mandalorian and Grogu" directed by Jon Favreau, is set to hit theaters in May. And with tracking data now hitting the industry, we can see just how bad things have gotten for Disney.

Tracking data shows little hope new 'Star Wars' movie will be a hit

You may not have heard much about it, but "The Mandalorian and Grogu" is a big deal for Disney. The first major theatrical release in the "Star Wars" universe since 2019. The Grogu character was a cultural phenomenon for a year or so, making the streaming show a must watch.

It’s also the first "Star Wars" film set outside the main trilogy since "Solo: A Star Wars Story" in 2018. That movie was viewed as a disappointment when it opened to just over $84 million domestically and grossed just $392 million globally.

Well, this latest attempt isn’t looking much better. Industry website Box Office Theory reported that the opening weekend box office prediction for "The Mandalorian and Grogu," based on pre-release ticket sales, is just $71 million.

Even "Solo’s" opening weekend, adjusted for inflation, would be about $110.5 million in today’s dollars. This latest "Star Wars" release is tracking to come in nearly $40 million behind that. While the film has a lower budget which has been estimated at around $166 million, this is still a disappointment. It may wind up breaking even or turning a small profit, but unless the international market surprises or word of mouth is strong, it won’t be a huge financial hit. And given the poor response to the trailers, word of mouth is more likely to be negative than positive.

Really, Disney has nobody to blame but themselves. Kathleen Kennedy had no plan for where she wanted the "Star Wars" franchise to go. They hired a different director for "The Last Jedi," Rian Johnson, who had a totally different vision and view of what he wanted to make than J.J. Abrams. Then, after fans were furious with his take, desperately rushed back to Abrams to make "The Rise of Skywalker." That film felt rushed, inconsistent, and lazy. Storylines built up in the previous movies fizzled out or were totally ignored, which made the lack of planning even more obvious.

Many of the Disney+ shows, instead of bringing new fans into the "Star Wars" universe, were moderately successful at best, or completely unwatchable at worst, cheapening the brand’s overall image, taking away some of the exclusivity of the trilogy films, and pulling focus away from the "Jedi-Sith" dichotomy. "The Acolyte" was a clumsy, poorly-written mess, an attempt to shoehorn politics into "Star Wars" that was a predictable failure.

So the result of all of these changes, the lack of creative vision and direction, is that fans now approach "Star Wars" with apathy, not excitement. There’s no benefit of the doubt that a "Star Wars" film will be fun, exciting storytelling worth seeing in theaters. And when you lose the benefit of the doubt with your customers, you’re in trouble. Disney’s version of the "Star Wars" brand? Boy is it ever in trouble.

It is being produced by Angel Studios.  They would never do that.  They are as pro-America as they come.

This came true.  The film is barely recouping its losses and Disney is viewing it as a financial flop.  It has received mostly mixed to negative reviews.  It has ONLY made $177.9 million since being released May 14th.  Very weak.

Supergirl tracking to be yet another disappointment

"Superman" brought in substantially less money, before and after adjusting for inflation, than "Man of Steel." And pre-release tracking for the latest entry in Gunn's new DC Studios series, "Supergirl," is tracking to do substantially worse.

"Supergirl" hits theaters on June 26 in the U.S., and star Milly Alcock seems to have made it her mission to be as divisive as possible. In March, Alcock gave an interview claiming she's been the target of criticism for "simply existing as a woman" in a superhero movie.

Then, when receiving criticism for the absurd remark, she doubled down in a recent Variety interview entitled "Milly Alcock's Supergirl Interview: Sexism, Superheroes, and More."

"I didn’t even say ‘men’ — I said ‘people!’" she said. "And they got so angry. I was like, ‘You’re proving my point. You’re proving my point!’"

She also claimed she's "pi***** off" the right people, including those who identify as a "Christian" and "Dad."

Well, based on how the film is tracking, "Supergirl" is about to prove the point many Hollywood critics are making: they don't know what they're doing and keep making the same predictable mistakes.

Even if it gets near the top of that range, say, $60 million, the likelihood of reaching $500 million worldwide is virtually zero. It's not a one for one comparison, but "Superman" opened to $125 million domestically, and finished its theatrical run with $618 million.

Latest estimates from Box Office Theory put the film's opening weekend between $47 million and $65 million, which would be, to put it mildly, a disaster. Production costs were estimated at around $175 million, with marketing likely to exceed $75 million. Given the traditional 50/50 split between studios and theaters, that's a break-even point of $500 million at the domestic box office.

I mean, hey, now, let's go step into the same bag of dog dookey we did forty years ago, right...?  The time seems perfectly ripe for it.

Studio's that created a lot of these film scripts during the DEI/Woke era are having their final movies from this era released.  So hopefully things get better, but I doubt it. We've lost so much talent in Hollywood and the people who mastered the craft are gone.  There is a big loss of that now days.  I think there is opportunity for the new people to make their craft great, but if big movie studios don't take risk, we will never see it.  Right now, I am hoping their reboot era dies along with the woke crud.  It's time for originality.

James Gunn was supposed to revamp and revitalize DC Studios at Warner Bros. The director of "Guardians of the Galaxy" would, in theory, bring the type of overarching creative vision that Kevin Feige had so successfully demonstrated at Marvel Studios.

But the real test for Gunn's reboot and the power of the DC Studios brand was the follow-up film, "Supergirl," starring Milly Alcock. And boy has it failed the test.

Alcock spent most of the press campaign making herself as unlikeable as possible, insulting potential moviegoers, bizarrely claiming that audiences felt "ownership" of her body, then doubling down after the inevitable backlash. The trailers looked awful, with a predictably sloppy anti-hero feel, atrocious visual effects, and an uninteresting plot and villain.Two movies into Gunn's vision of DC Studios, it's safe to say that this reboot has been an unmitigated failure.

Friday grosses dropped an astonishing 80.4% from opening day on June 26 to just $3.6 million. Saturday estimates are for just $2.6 million, another 77% drop, despite the Independence Day holiday. All told, it's a remarkable 74% drop from the first weekend to the second. Total domestic gross for "Supergirl" now sits at just $58.4 million. On a $275 million production, from a major studio, with a massive marketing campaign, and the creative backing of James Gunn.

Unsurprisingly, "Young Washington" has received middling reviews from critics, but has an exceptional 92% positive audience score. With word of mouth that positive, could "Young Washington," a little-known, barely marketed film with a low budget, outgross "Supergirl" at the domestic box office when all is said and done?

If Hollywood had a shred of intelligence, awareness, and objectivity, it would realize the message they're getting. Nobody wanted a "Supergirl" movie, particularly not the one they made. Women weren't interested, as is typically the case with superhero films, and men were either put off by Alcock's divisive comments, or apathetic after seeing the underwhelming trailers.

Meanwhile, "Young Washington" has been a tremendous success, because outside of the powerful progressive echo chamber in the entertainment industry, there is still an enormous appetite for stories about the United States, its founding, and prominent historical figures.

We already had a Supergirl TV series on the CW ten years ago, and the interpretation of Kara from Adult Swim's My Adventures With Superman cartoon.  I think that market is over-saturated.  Also, no one likes the new Krypto.

I mean, how hard is it to whomp up a CGI pit bull?

DC is a lot  more than Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, and Flash, after all.  There's a wealth of characters looking for a project to do.  If I wished I could call upon my vast repository of comic knowledge, pick a hero and a villain at random and have a script together in a week.   Um... Hawkgirl (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hawkgirl_(Kendra_Saunders)) vs. The Key (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Key_(character)).  There's one right there.

A friend of mine went to go see Supergirl and they said it was pretty bad. Writing they noted was especially bad and the effects with green screen and cgi keep getting more and more noticeably bad. Not a stellar review from a fan of super hero stuff.

A pal of mine went to see Young Washington and he said it was interesting and fine.
