MLP:FiM - "Top Bolt"
Episode 24 of season 6 will premier on October 15th, 2016.
SYNOPSIS: The Cutie Map calls Twilight Sparkle and Rainbow Dash to the Wonderbolts Academy to solve a friendship problem.

Oh boy. I wonder if Lightning Dust will come back. Probably not, but eeeee! We get to see the Academy again.
Too bad Rainbow Dash is in this episode :/ it's gonna suck hard if she's the way she's been portrayed recently.

Hence why I'm not the biggest fan wen people post the episodes names so far in advance. As I know some people who do like to go in completely blind. Like say if someone say this title "Top Bolt" you already know it's about the Wonderbolts and includes worst pony Rainbow Dash.

I don't go by them honestly. I mean, these are the people who thought MDW was a bad episode.
I'm honestly a finicky person. I can usually enjoy an episode, but if it's RD I find it immensely harder to enjoy it.

Who's the writer for this episode? 9/10 for this episode by the way. I know that may be a point higher then maybe it deserves, but they scored so many props for that stuff that they included.

I loved it. All they need are little shout outs and nods to make me happy. I was so happy after that.
Overall it was a good episode. Re-used story plot device, but they improved upon it over other episodes to the point that after the initial "same idea" it was handled totally differently. Also even with opposing views, at least Twilight and Rainbow Dash were never stupid about it. Loved Dash in the beginning having locker room banter with the other mares. That is pretty nice to include, brings them all down to earth. Other friends.

It was enjoyable. I'm not going to lie. I wasn't expecting a whole lot, which is a poor mindset to go into this. The past several weeks they have been great episodes, or at least very solid goods. This was a solid better then just good. 8/10. Yes, the plot has been done before, but they managed to make it different, and the characters I think really bumped it up. That is a real hard issue to have to deal with, and I've been in situations like that. Either someone ends up broken, or you keep going on with the lie.

I did like the episode. I would give it a 7 or an 8. I am leaning more to the 8 for reasons and a 7 because the story has been done before, but they changed it enough to make it different. They portrayed characters good and not as imbeciles have they have done with Rarity and Applejack on too many occasions. This Cody guy did a good story here and gave it good tweaks and obvious perks. I will give it an 8.

What a great episode today! It was really enjoyable and oh my goodness! Can you believe that happened? Talk about funky weird. I felt like it was pointing right at me and all of us. I don't know how to explain it. We're being watched, lol! What a cute episode and those two together are super cute. She mellows him out and he cares for her.
9/10. One of my favs this season.

Everyone talking about the freaking sneeze but no one talking about the really adorable pinkish pony Angel Wings? She is absolutely adorable. (Watching the episode right now).

I figured out why I wasn't a big fan of the sneeze. I can't stand Vapor's voice. She's a nice character and I like her hair, to an extent, it's very pretty but too stick outy. But yeah, her voice is incredibly grating. Any character with those types of strained, crackly voices really grind me the wrong way. Just. Ew. Why couldn't she have a cute voice like Angel Wings. Also... Angels confirmed in MLP. Religion confirmed in MLP?
Sky was er... Oh my gosh. He was uh. He was an attractively designed male, I'll say that. But ugh, that jerk jock behavior, I know it's part of his character but damn was he annoying at times. I know he's supposed to be, so I'm okay with it. Also, he is the most adorable little colt I've ever seen. White Trash is apparently confirmed in MLP. while his jockey behavior I understood I couldn't get over how much he just put down Vapor nearly all the time. Like, dude, she's your friend since you were a little nobody. Treat her better. And then he has those "oh I care about her moments" but then shits all over her. I still liked him though, he was a pretty cool character.
Dash in this episode... What a complete rarity. I didn't hate her. She was actually really nice in this episode, this is who Dash is. This writer, I like him. He can write a good Rainbow Dash. Has that bravado but isn't a complete fcking tool about it. Has her semi jerky moment but is actually a kind and caring pony. She does care about others, she is not an asshole. Rainbow Dash shouldn't ever be written that way because it's not who she is.
This is why this season has laregely been a disappointment to me. Along with bad characterization of other characters. But this writer, this guy. He got it right. Humor was of the nice subtle variety, characters were in character and the new ones were actually pretty fleshed out for one shot characters. Just... The voices man. I couldn't stand them.
The lesson. I loved it. There is the two sides argument to it and I loved how they showed both sides. And the fallout of them. Because yes, if you go with either there will be some fallout. I feel it's also kind of relevant with today's society. We don't want to hurt people's feelings so we just tell them they're good or enable them, but it doesn't help them. It's why I'm a critic, it's why my friends are critics and honest with each other. Because blind praise is useless. If you tell me I'm perfect I will never improve. Plus, praise given by people who you know don't give it out easily or whole heartedly all the time is a hell of a lot more fulfilling than praise from someone who is just a yes man.
Anyway, I feel I've talked long enough. Episode gets a... 8.5/10. Not quite a 9 for me. Again... Just ugh, Vapor's voice.
Oh, and the two new ponies contrails. Oh my gosh, they were pretty cool. They're the only ones besides Rainbow and Lightning to have them, so they must be really good fliers. Which the episode shows us.

And I felt this episode deserved more talking points than just a 1 second sneeze ;)
But hey, I'll be the first to say if an episode is actually objectively good. I wasn't expecting great things, but it surprised me in the, not like "mind blown!" way, but it made me go "huh, that wasn't that bad" way. But yeah, it was a nice episode. New writers, take notes. This is how you write for Rainbow Dash.

I do think this writer did better then most. He presented both sides of the issue in a smart way and didn't make the characters fall into just flat "characters." They seemed alive. The relationship building especially among Sky and Vapor was great. They were admittedly, super cute together. I may bump up my score reconsidering things.

We are being set up for season 7. We just got the season finale next week I think left when inevitably, Starlight Glimmer, takes over in season 7. Twilight will be called away to important friendship business in a neighboring empire. Everyone knows she's being prepped for another major fandom shattering change. It has been so long since the last one. So Starlight Glimmer will be the new star, with Spike. ;)
Oh... and then Spitfire has a flashback and burns down a tavern...

I love how she kept hugging Sky. They were the cutest hugs and really one of the few signs of affection being shown in the show in the form of a hug other then friendship.

It was nice. I liked that the show has shown male and female friendships. It's always seemed to be strictly female and female friendships. Like how they're expanding.

Hm, well, different species has already been confirmed. There are mules in the show, and mules are made with a horse and a donkey. However, I believe a pony and donkey make something else. It's a different name or something. But it would be super cool to see a hippogriff or something!

After television ratings near 300k the week before, "Top Bolt" hit a near low. You could blame the UK releases, or whatever, but it is still a low drop to 170k. That is really sad. Seems all the good episodes (you wouldn't know that beforehand) get the lowest viewership.
