Spike isn't underage in this comic.  Twi says he is only a few years younger then her.  Spike can . . . drive . . . I think?  He has a job.

A few years younger than her, indeed. But how many years? And how many years have passed since Twilight reached the age of majority?

I dunno. I don't think she's that close to 30.

Plus, maybe Spike is old enough to have a job and drive, while still being underage? I don't know. ^^'

I thought the big controversy was Spike being underage.  If he's actually 18 (or whatever, tbh draconic years and pony years hardly translate to human years when it comes to physical maturity) then they could get chummy.

Anyone notice the little easter egg in todays comic?

Hint: It involves a smiley face and fishing.

People for some reason follow canon sometimes in this series for certain things, but not other things.  Nothing really points to me in this series that Spike is a baby dragon.  Nothing.

I did catch the the funny little easter egg.  Also the wildlife in the background was a nice touch.

Well, think about it. Compared to those huge hunk of dragons, he's a baby. Those guys are teenagers, and he's at most, at MOST a kid in his what 12's.

Well, you can get as job as early as 14, but not in a non-agricultural or hazardous industry, and, with some exceptions and special precautions for children under 18.  So as long as his massages are non-erotic in nature and he observes proper precautions when blowing glass, he's fine.

And it is possible to drive at the age of 16. Which makes Spike (in this universe) 16 or 17.

I think Spike is in his late teens. Probably legal... what if we are overlooking Starlight might be younger. I know she isn't but throwing that out there.

Spike has adult aspirations in his business growth but still likes kid stuff too like video games and hanging with friends. I think he is a young adult, few years younger then Two and Star but of legal age. He has a good head on his shoulders. He is mature with what he had to grow up with in a sensitive Twilight.

Again we're basing this off American things. I mean, age of consent in Germany is like 13 isn't it?
We really can't base it off our world exactly either. Maybe in the pony world 13 year olds are allowed to drive. Considering the crusaders are technically should be teenagers despite still being like 10 in appearance. I mean, twilight and Spike at minimum has to be like 6 years older than spike. Unless they're using horse years for ages. In which, Twilight was like 2-3 when applying to Celestia's school, so that would explain the similar ages for both Spike and Twilight. But horses age faster than dragons do. So... Yeah.

Note to self: visit Germany at some point.    ;)

In the olden days, girl married and and dropped their calves at thirteen... royals even earlier, like, 8 or 9. (They also inbred fit to be damned, but let's not go there.) With the rise of the industrial society came the era of leisure. We went in just a century from the Gilded Age of the 1890s to the New Gilded Age of the 1990's. Entitlement was the order of the day... which is why millennials don't consider themselves adults until they hit thirty and college is just glorified day care.  (Not that it was much better in my day, when it was a non-stop party on the set of Animal House, and every man wanted to be John Belushi.

Anyway, Starlight has some control issues (though she's a lot better now). She's what would have happen if a 16-year-old read a couiple of books by Karl Marx and Ayn Rand at home over a weekend, got a lot of crazy mixed-up ideas, and convinced her vapid teenage friends that it would be a good idea to band together, withdraw to a remote area, and try to create their own Utopia. Considering Spike used to be soil-his-scales terrified of her, it's amazing how clsoe thwy've gotten.

Twilight has said he is "almost the same age as me.  A little bit younger."  Clearly they are not the same age as in the show.
