They sure have studied some equine-related stuff to have the references for the poses and animation cycles, especially for the first two seasons, where only Lyra had a human-like sitting pose (sadly, in later seasons it was given to other ponies as well).
Of course, the creators of a new
Ford Bronco logo (
recently mentioned in the neighbour topic) have captured that pose better, but that was just more realistic horse design requirements

Too bad we didn’t see AJ doing an actual sneeze like that — her nose needed to do something extraordinary to sneeze. The same with Rainbow Dash — eventually, only Discord’s magic and Pinkie’s tail were able to save these characters from finishing the series with zero in sneeze count chart
